I don't know why I keep going here. I guess I have too big of hopes and expectations for a boba shop that's somehow achieved at giving me a consistently aggravating experience. If you choose settle with Formosa, expect poor food quality (see my previous review about the corn dogs), workers who couldn't care less about your drink, and a literal deficit of their snack menu. A couple months ago I went to get a tiger milk tea, one of the workers was disgusted at my order and only then the cashier disclosed to me that the almond milk tea "smelled bad". Why the hell do I want to know that? Well, thanks for giving me that info, I guess. My current visit was the final straw. I ordered a popcorn chicken and while they were nice about checking if there was any left, the very idea of running OUT of a popular menu item is so disappointing. It's unprofessional to constantly deny a customer of something that you're advertising. Their chicken scarcity is comparable to California's drought: you never know when it's gonna rain, but most of the time, you'll be disappointed when it does. The same rejection happened before, where the cashier had to apologize for having no chicken available. Lame. I'm done with Formosa. I know this place has gotten some critical reviews, but they're all warranted and you should stay away! Go to Ten Ren down the street, or Nguyen's kitchen in Santa Ana, but please, spare yourself some disappointment and go get some REAL boba. read more

My go-to Taiwanese tea house in the OC for 3 reasons: -efficient and friendly staff. You know how some kids run tea houses and do a terrible job, because they don't care? They are professional and do a good job at this one. -eco-friendly. You can get 1 refill with your old cup at 50% off on the same visit. I just love that they are willing to use the same cup to save on plastic (unlike Lollicup). -boardgames. You are welcome to come in and play boardgames there. We were there for awhile. Their drinks are good, too. Plenty of parking. Ask for key for restroom or you will be there waiting for the 'person to come out of the restroom.' read more

I've been coming here a lot the past 2 years but this is my first time leaving a review. Across the board, their drinks are pretty good. They err on the sweeter side so ask for half sweet if you're not too into heavy sweetness. I've never been unsatisfied. Boba is usually really good. Good texture and chewiness. Right amount of sweetness. On rare occasions I've had boba that didn't have much of any flavor. Now, the thing that keeps me coming back. THEIR SNACKS. They do Taiwanese snacks justice here. I will stand by their popcorn chicken, fries, cheese sticks, and squid balls until the day I die haha. Generous portions and full of flavor, you cannot go wrong with their food here. My friends and I came here after a marathon and this store had a lot of drinks and foods to offer. I'm a huge fan of matcha, and I was disappointed that they don't have matcha milk tea. The cashier (John?) was very understanding and he suggested me a Japanese green tea smoothie/slushie. Although the service was excellent and he was smiling, I usually don't like those types of drinks, so instead, I got Tiger milk tea ($2.50) and spicy popcorn chicken ($4.25). Tiger milk tea is a combination of milk tea and Thai tea. It was delicious and you should definitely try it with boba (good texture) and egg pudding (it's really good!!). The popcorn chicken was savory and crunchy. Next time I'm going to order mild spice because spicy is too hot for me!! I'll definitely come back when I'm in the area again. read more

My friend and I went to Formosa tea time yesterday, decided to try something new. Let's me tell you. DON'T TRY THIS. Firstly, customer service was terrible. The cashier was so unwelcome. He didn't say anything when we walked in. Like, I get it that maybe you're tired or having a bad day. But at least a hi would be highly appreciated. But we were alright as long as the boba is good. I would still comeback for the drink. THAT's WHY I WARN YOU, DON't COME TO THIS PLACE! We ordered a Taro milk tea and a jasmine milk tea. Just to be clear, I'm absolutely not picky when it comes to boba. But the drink in Formosa tastes terrifically extradionary terrible. The TARO milk tea is very powdery and especially, tastes nothing like TARO. More like a chocolate powder milk drink. The jasmine milk tea is even more of a surprise. Unfortunately, I intended to save the drink for tomorrow so I did't have a chance to tell the cashier right away how much I "love" this. As I took a sip on the way home, the disgusting sour taste immediately hit my mouth. I almost cause an accident because of this. The milk is obviously expired! This review is long overdue. I used to come here every weekend. It was decent for being close to where I live. Sometimes, I don't want to drive 15-20 minutes just for milk tea. I used to love their milk tea, jasmine milk tea and rose milk tea. It definitely wasn't the best, but it was good. I haven't ordered milk tea here since I've become vegan, so I can't comment on it as of recent. Today, I decided to get their guava green tea, a drink I've had before and didn't mind. But trying it again today, I couldn't believe how artificial it tastes. I didn't even finish it. The drinks here are cheap, but I rather just drive to Fullerton for Kung Fu Tea. I really wanted to like this place from the reviews I read. I am so sad because I ordered a Thai tea boba and my boba was really hard and not chewy at all. The Thai tea tasted like it was a powdered mix. And the barista got my order wrong and told me "oh sorry I thought you ordered a small not a large." They have a great avocado boba! (soft and chewy - boba cooked right.) Staff is very friendly. There is a punch card that I always forget and if you check in you get 10% off purchase. I hate to gripe about a place that I've only been to once, but it just didn't meet my expectations as far as drink quality is concerned. Bottom line, our drinks were just overly sweetened. TOO SWEET, with an out of control sugar content. I ordered a banana slush and the hubbs a banana smoothie. It also took awhile to get our bevs, but it was a Sunday and slightly busy. Maybe we just don't know how to order with precision. How hard can it be though, TO NOT make smoothies & slush bevs that taste like 90% sugar?? First time tonight and I must say I am most impressed with the prices. Two drinks for under $6 with tax. The drinks were good ~ we got strawberry black tea (with boba) and peach black tea (with boba). Our only complaints is that the drinks were a little on the sweet side. The boba was a little harder than usual, but this wasn't a bad thing. It's kinda like when you make your own, but better cause you don't have to do it. And they're sweet too. The store is cute and they have cute arcade games to keep you busy while you wait. Today they had lemon tea for $.99. I will definitely be back. My only complaint is that their cups aren't very photogenic. But I am very impressed for a place that just opened. Hope they stick around :) read more

So I'm sorry I forgot to take a picture but I can still give my review. Regarding the bathroom: the bathroom wasn't the cleanest but it also wasn't the worse. The toilet seat is kind of scratched up but aside from being vandalized, it was pretty much clean. Regarding the drinks: I ordered a honey milk tea with egg pudding. I'm a little sad that I didn't get much pudding but aside from that the drink was made with pretty good flavor. Not too watery but also not as sweet. They do give you the option of adjusting the level of sweetness and the amount of ice you want in your drink. This place would be a good study place because they have a few decent sized tables for parties of 4. This is one of the few boba joints in Anaheim, so location is a definite plus for all the Anacrime boba deprived peeps like me. I go here for the food and to kick it with friends. There's usually a table or two available and they have games to play with while you wait/eat/drink. Popcorn chicken: great portion size for only 5 bucks! Fresh fried mushrooms: unique and yummy! It's pretty much mushrooms coated with popcorn chicken spice with ranch and sweet&sour sauce for your dipping delight on the side. The only downside is some of the shrooms get a little soggy from being in the bag it comes in. Drinks - I've tried a few and unfortunately didn't find any to my pleasing. I think the texture is just a little too thick for my preference. Sometimes i'll get a milk tea or something, go home and throw in extra ice to dilute it a bit and whalah, perfection. read more

My apologies to the poor worker behind the counter as my friend and I ran in at 10:53pm, right before closing. Yep, we're those jackasses. We hit up Formosa Tea Time right after a few hours at DCA, since we needed a caffeine boost and a cold drink on our drive back to Riverside. Luckily, we caught FTT on the tail end of its hours, and I think it was what we were looking for in our drink craves. First of all, let me say that I'm used to paying upwards of $4.50 for decent boba drinks in Riverside, and I paid $3.19 for a LARGE (!!!) green milk tea (half sweet, less ice), and my friend paid less than $2 for her small iced green tea. Unheard of. I was not expecting much since I didn't pay a premium for my drink, but my drink was perfectly sweet, not overly milky, and had a strong green tea taste that was also somewhat floral. What I'm saying, minus all the food-bloggeresque fluff, is that I really liked my drink, and it exceeded my expectations for the price I paid. I would stop by again if I were craving Asian tea after a late trip to Disneyland! It's less than a 5 minute drive up the 5 freeway. :) read more

After reading the great reviews, I decided to stop by after a trip to Disneyland because other tea shops in the area closed by 10pm during the weekdays. It's nice that this store is open later but the service was terrible. They're either understaffed or inefficient at making drinks - or both. Only one girl was preparing the drinks. The other guy kept telling us he was too busy to take our order but he could have easily gotten it down while the girl was making drinks. After standing by the register for a good 10 minutes waiting, they finally decided to take our order. I ordered their fresh watermelon juice since watermelons are in season right now but was sadly disappointed. I asked if they add sugar to their watermelon juice (which they said they did) so I requested for half sugar in my drink. When I got it, it was wayyyyy too sweet!! Especially since the watermelons were probably sweet already, I'm surprised they added extra sugar. Even with half sugar, it felt like I was drinking sugar water. read more

Basic. To me, boba shops are of 3 levels. Level 1, you have your foundations of different types of syrup / powder + 2 different types of tea (black and green). Level 2, you have everything of Level 1 but you get more creative and add some fruit. Level 3, you have everything of Level 2 but you have different types of tea to choose from and they're made from tea leaves of your choice. Most land in Level 2, since I believe boba shops need to find their niche and differentiate from another by being a bit creative. Formosa Tea Time, is a basic Level 1. This is a boba place where you'll find all your drinks made from syrup, either you decide to add tea, milk, or ice bended is up to you. Having said that, "BASIC" doesn't set you apart of the competition. Hallelujah! A boba shop in Anaheim for once besides Ten Ren and it's cheaper than what you would pay there for the same drink. It's true, this place is in the same plaza as Target. You can find this store hidden behind a tree (hopefully they trim it soon cause I almost missed it). I got a regular peach smoothie ($2.75) and it tastes the way it should taste. I gave this place 3 stars because it was just okay to me, nothing special and it didn't give me a stomach ache so that's a plus. Also, I'm being generous. The service was kinda slow. Sizes are as follows: Reg Large Super (which does NOT fit in your traditional cup holders so be prepared before ordering it. Unless you have a plus 1 that could be your cup holder for the time being) Boba add ons are .50 cents and anything in between like jelly, popping boba and aloe is .75 cents I asked the dude behind the register what the popular flavors were and the first one was Tiger milk tea (milk/Thai tea combined. It was delicious- I mean- how can you mess up on Thai tea anything. Boba is pretty soft and gummy and the pudding was delightful. Ordered popcorn chix in med spicy and HOLYMOLY- the peeps weren't lying- it's a ton of chix! Spice wise... I coulda gone the next level up but the chix itself was crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I'm old school and I'm so use to the popcorn with the bits of basil mixed in so needless to say- it's was basil-less. I won't be making the 30 minutes drive to Anaheim just for the boba/tea here but if I'm in the area and have some serious cravings to fill... I'll probably come here! Right now they have their soft-opening, with their grand opening happening on July 12th (buy 1 get one 1 free). Drinks are fairly cheap - so if you don't feel like overpaying for Ten Ren's/Tea Station, come here. I got the Passion Fruit Green Tea to quench my thirst cause by the hot summer weather, and it did it's job! Not too sweet, just the right amount of sourness I like, and boba was nice and chewy. They also have a stamp card system so when you have accumulated a total of 10 stamps, you can redeem it for a drink :) And I don't know if this is the new American standard where there's a supersized version for everything, but if a large drink isn't enough for you.... they have a MEGA size for the most bang-for-your-buck (but not your belly). read more

This is actually one of the better places for boba in Anaheim. It's not westminster or Irvine quality but definitely right behind. Their options are more limited than most places. However, what we did have, the Green Milk Tea was surprisingly good. The tea flavor is strong enough and it's not overly milky. The boba itself was only okay - I noticed that we were the bottom of the barrel so I wasn't expecting extremely fresh boba. I'd definitely give this place another try in the hopes that their fresh boba is better. Service was excellent. Honestly, I've experienced better but because it's the only boba place in Anaheim I'm gave it an A-Ok rating. Gas is going up so until I can afford to venture down to Garden Grove for good boba and a toast box, this place will do. I was craving a boba slushie and went with the Strawberry Mango.I waited for about 7 minutes to get my order and there were one to two people ahead of me, so that was decent. I also ordered a sweet heart Nutella toast and that came out about a minute later in a one of those red, checker paper cardboard food trays you usually put fries in. The presentation was definitely sloppy and the toast wasn't really toast but more like bread with Nutella spread on the top and even that looked like crap. The strawberry mango slushy with boba is really good and not too sweet so for the time being that's my go-to drink here. They have a limited selection of the typical Asian tea place snacks, a few games on the tables, and that's about it. It's pretty bare in there and the lighting is your typical fluorescent lighting. If you're looking for a place to eat, chill and hang out I'd suggest Teabo Tea house in Garden Grove or Cha2O in Fullerton. For good toast and other drinks the closest place would be Cafe Brown off Orangethorpe and Brookhurst. read more

I was at dapper day with my boyfriend at disneyland and we wanted to pre-game before a concert at the Honda Center and luckily, Formosa was only 7 minutes from Disney and 15 minutes from the Honda Center, yay! It was pretty empty when we came in which isn't bad because that means we won't have to wait too long for our stuff! The drinks were SO much cheaper than other boba joints and you get 10% off if you check in with yelp! Even their snacks were generously served that two people have to share to finish one bag. The popcorn chicken was really good and were in big pieces. There is also free wifi as well. I got their rose green milk tea with boba and although the milk tea was good, I wished their boba was more fresh. For the prices, you get what you pay for, but in a large portion so not complaining at all. I will definitely come back if I want to re-energize after a day at Disney! read more

I'm surprised I never heard of this place before. I came here awhile back, just because I was looking for a place nearby to where I was and Formosa came up. I got black milk tea here and I personally was pretty impressed, however I think that they use a powder base for their drink. Either that or it tasted like the tea was made from a powder. I saw this tea shop while driving to Target. I Yelped it and saw 4 stars and thought it was definitely worth trying. The staff was wonderful in recommendations. They allowed us to try out the boba before ordering. I ended up getting the honey milk tea, less sweet. My wife got got the taro milk tea, less sweet with boba. Both drinks were great.
