It was a pleasure coming around this time, as the restaurant wasn't too busy so that we could focus on the food after the business. So glad we came because we got a nice treatment and great food! Our lovely waitress, Maria, could answer all kinds of questions about the food. So don't worry if you don't know anything. Just know how to eat yum yum! We ordered artichoke pizza, seafood salad, mussels, and either frutti di mare (seafood pasta) or frutti di mare (seafood pasta). Everything was delicious, although the seafood pasta didn't swim in a lot of red sauce. From the table bread to the end of our meals, we were satisfied and happy. Seafood salad? Wow! I ordered a margarita pizza, but there was no tomato slices or basil. While it was a tasty cheese pizza, I missed the toppings.

I've eaten here twice and can't wait to go back. I have to start by mentioning the focaccia - the best I've had anywhere - warm, moist, and truly delicious. My server, Cristian, was from Sicily and was very knowledgeable about the cuisine, highly professional and helpful. Last time, I mentioned that I was in the mood for puttanesca, which was not on the menu. He offered to have it made for me anyway, and it was excellent. Everything about this place is just terrible. Funeral home vibes. Outdated, boring, bland menu. While the table side bread was excellent, the rest of the Food is in desperate need of seasoning. Pork chop was dry and flavorless. Eggplant was also flavorless and just a pile of mush. Vodka sauce was basically cream with a touch of tomato. Nauseating. The plates had black spots all over them from being so old. Service was decent. Moral of the story: there are a million great restaurants in Astoria and Ditmars. Go try those. Family dining Sicilian style. We were looking for a nice Italian restaurant in the Ditmars area. Various recommendations were made about Forno, so we decided to look at them. We had just completed a road trip in Astoria, covering over 80 miles as we hunted down new restaurants and bars to review. Forno was our last stop of the day, and we were tired and hungry. At the time, I didn't want pizza, so I ordered a pasta special known as the moneybags (stuffed pasta) and New Zealand lamb chops. The food was excellent, and I had not eaten New Zealand lamb chops since childhood. Our hostess, Big Maria, and her daughter thoroughly entertained us with their knowledge of restaurants and food. It was a no-nonsense conversation. The restaurant has décor reflecting the old world Scillian lifestyle, and the artwork was tasteful. All in all a great experience. We will be back. read more

My daughter recommended this spot so my wife and I went and we LOVED it! A neighborhood gem and old school Italian charm with both indoor and outdoor seating. The wine list is excellent and very reasonably priced. My eyes bugged out when I saw my favorite appetizer Mozarella en Carozza. They did not disappoint. Heck, it was a meal in itself. The food is good here if you are eating in the restaurant. A little pricey but good. What is not so good here is that they skimp a lot on the food. You get small portions and it seems like they are afraid to give you bread. Years ago, they had the best hearty bread made of pizza dough, sauce and spices. Now you get thin pieces which are too toasted and you get only a few slices of this. DO NOT ORDER FOR A DELIVERY or you will be charged too much for skimpy portions. I spent a lot of money on some pasta to which they did not even include bread or grated cheese with it. I also order bruschetta to which they sent me a small plate of chopped up tomato with little blocks of parmesan and 4 small slices of italian bread. Forno is certainly the best of the Italian restaurants in Astoria. Their ragazzo che fa la pizza is the real deal and he has been here a very long time. There is something magical about their oven and their crust, always with a nice char yet never dried out, as close to perfection as I've ever tasted in New York. So fresh - I thought I was in Sicily . The pastas were so perfectly formed and savory, the sauces rich and seasoned and the meats fragrant and juicy. This is no sloppy red sauce pizzeria gummy cheese joint. The bread was the best I've had in any Italian restaurant - char baked in the pizza oven. My second soda Heya to me. As I was saying. No salt and pepper on the table. No oil and balsamic vin for the focaccia. 30 min no food. So foods is what you do.
