I had such a great experience at Sotto Le Stelle in Queens so did the 3 other people I went with. The atmosphere inside is beautiful--the décor and lighting create a warm, inviting space that makes you want to sit and enjoy the evening. The drinks were made perfectly, and you can tell a lot of care goes into what they serve. The pizza was absolutely amazing! The dough was a standout and had that perfect texture and flavor. We also tried the homemade pasta, which was cooked to perfection, along with the bread and burrata, both of which were delicious. Sotte Le Stelle is a gem. It's romantic but not stuffy, the food is excellent and the service goes above and beyond to be accommodating and friendly. The food is so good that I recommend ordering family style and sharing a bunch of dishes. For me, the stars (no pun intended) are the exceptional Diavola pizza and its sibling, the Angel And Devil pizza (the only difference as far as I can tell is the hot honey on the A&D). For pasta, I recommend the exceptionally fresh and delicious carbonara. Last, you have to do the Nutella Calzone for dessert. It is a sight to behold, and you will surprise yourself by how quickly you can make this enormous, doughy, Nutella-oozing delight disappear. read more

Food here was very authentic, from an Italian cook as stated by our server. My wife who was raised in Milan, Italy approved of their food - confirming the authenticity of flavors. Highly recommend their pizza with prosciutto, arugula, and ricotta - with a balsamic reduction drizzled on top. Flavors really harmonize topping off with the wood-fired crust flavor on the head. Wash it all down with a Peroni that is on tap - not bottled and you have yourself a meal. Absolutely loved this place. It's been on my "must" list for some time since we moved nearby. We came here for lunch and were able to get a spot at the outdoor patio. The staff was so friendly and attentive. The food was incredible!! Omg. We had the fried calamari to start and that was truly exceptional. Not greasy, cooked perfectly and the sauce it came with was delicious. We had the Caprichossa pizza (mushroom, prosciutto, artichoke, olives, cheese) and the pasta carbonara. Both were soooooo delicious. We've been to 3 parts of Italy so anytime we go to an Italian restaurant, that is the standard we hold our food and flavor to. Let me say, the flavors were outstanding. The food tasted like it was made with pure Italian ingredients and an Italian chef! Very hard to find these days. The ambiance is so chill and it is such a warm and inviting atmosphere. A Loyal Customer Since Day One -- Never Again! I rarely write reviews. But after tonight, I felt I had no choice. My husband and I were among the first customers when Sotto Le Stelle opened in Sunnyside. We fell in love with the place -- the Fritto Misto, the Angel and Devil pizza, the Crema di Funghi e Tartufo, and especially the Pasta Tiella, which was unlike anything else in the neighborhood. Over the years we introduced more than a dozen friends and family members here, people who became regulars themselves. We were genuinely proud to share it with everyone we knew. But over time things changed. Burnt pizzas. Inconsistent flavors. The Fritto Misto started showing up with soggy zucchini. Reading through other customers' reviews we began seeing complaints about dishes that tasted nothing like what we remembered. We gave them the benefit of the doubt and kept going back. That was our mistake. Tonight was our last visit. We arrived on a Wednesday around 7PM, surprisingly packed for a weeknight. The place has shifted into more of a neighborhood bar scene and the dining experience feels like it has taken a back seat to that. Our server was pleasant enough -- he set us up, explained the specials, and took our order. I ordered our usuals -- the Fritto Misto, Crema di Funghi e Tartufo, and the Pasta Tiella. He asked whether we wanted everything together or one by one. I said it didn't matter, whichever was faster. He only caught the first part and put the order in as all together. For those who don't know, the Pasta Tiella alone takes 15 to 20 minutes as it is baked in the brick oven, so serving everything together was always going to mean a longer wait. The couple next to us, who ordered after us, had their pizzas within minutes. We sat with a bread basket. Ten minutes passed. Then twenty. Then twenty-five. At around the 25 minute mark I asked our server about the status of our order. He said the kitchen was busy. I asked if it was too late to cancel and leave. He went to check with the manager. This is where the evening went from frustrating to something else entirely. The manager came over already visibly annoyed before I said a word. When I calmly explained the miscommunication he cut me off and said -- and I quote -- "This is not a McDonald's." He then snippily offered to bring out the pizza. I told him to cancel the order. We waited for our bill to pay for our drinks, barely touched as they were. After a few minutes he noticed we were waiting and gestured that it was not necessary. The comped drinks did not soften what had just happened. It felt more like a way to end the interaction quickly than any genuine goodwill. Here is what strikes me most. He had no idea who we were. He didn't know we had been coming since day one, that we had sent dozens of people his way, or that I used to feel comfortable enough to stop in alone for lunch. To him we were just another table causing a problem on a busy night. And that is exactly the point -- if this is how he treats any customer who raises a perfectly reasonable concern, the problem runs deeper than one bad night. We will not be returning. And because SoleLuna and Arcobaleno Gelateria next door are owned by the same people, we won't be visiting those either. There is a real sadness in writing this. But the moment a manager talks down to a customer who simply asked a reasonable question after a long wait, he is not just losing one table. He is losing everyone that table ever brought through the door. read more

Sotto Le Stelle was recommended by a friend, and I finally got around to trying it. Their wood-fired pizza menu has a ton of variety, including one shaped like a star. We naturally had to go with the star-shaped one and it was delicious, though the center was a bit too floppy. The crust, however, was incredible, and the ricotta inside really elevated the already amazing dough. We also tried the mussels, which were super fresh, and the tomato-based sauce they came in complemented them perfectly! The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service was great. Updating my last review, as I finally had a chance to come and actually dine here (for the Sunnyside Restaurant week) rather than grab a pizza to go. I came away from the experience super satisfied and full, and would easily come here again. It's great to know there's an authentic Italian pizzeria in the neighborhood! Came with 2 friends for an early lunch and we were sat down promptly. The manager, waiters and bartenders are all Italian, which is a real good sign. Ordered the Parmigiana di Melanzane as an appetizer - and it was quite good. Followed with the Pizza Quattro Formaggi as my main and found it to be on par with any solid, good pizzeria I've been to in Italy - which is the best compliment I can give them. Made sure to get myself a good glass of red wine to go along with it and my friends got cocktails which were similarly tasty. Finished my meal with a nice gelato (tiramisu' and lemon) - but was especially blown away by their home-made dessert shot of chocolate liqueur and ice cream, which they gave to us as a thank-you for stopping by. It ended up being about $60 (tip included) - which isn't exactly super cheap, but to be fair that covered an appetizer, a (good) pizza, a glass of wine and dessert - plus I'm getting great quality here so it's a fair price. I've been on a pizza kick and I'm astounded this place doesn't land on any listicle. Maybe that's for the better, to avoid price and foot traffic increases. We went on a Monday evening and it was so far, our best new restaurant experience of the year to date. Eurodance music pumping, chitchatter of old Italian men, delicious pizza, and the bartender chattin' it up with 2 lovely young ladies. The Earth-toned blue and gold draping the restaurant, gave it a classy and Starry Night theme. It was a mix of old school and modern comfort. The vibes were there. We opted for a single pizza between the two of us to meet our dietary goals but one can be a comfortable size for a person. Feeling a little spicy, we ordered the Angel and Devil, a pizza that actually executes the hot honey flavor very well. We've been to a few other spots that are "known" for this but they might as well be spicy ketchup. The pizza came dripping with flavor. A little watery but we found that it was a great consistency to pick up or slices and smear it on the plate. It was a hot mess in the best way possible. Ambiance is nice but the walking pathway through the restaurant is very narrow. All you need is one unlucky moment to bump into a server with food. Came here specifically for their seafood chitarra with a few peeps on a very rainy day and service was excellent. The restaurant had a cozy vibe and although we didn't get to dine outside, inside was just as nice. That said we ordered two seafood chitarra and pizza carbonara to share among four people and it was completely satisfying. I love how they blanketed the seafood chitarra with a thin layer of dough and had it cut among us. It's perfect for the gram and different. As for the pizza carbonara it was yummy. This French restaurant is a hidden jewelry in Sunnyside! we had two Tiella Pasta dishes and a Cabonia pizza. I have changed my mind about how I feel. The second visit to Sotto Le Stelle was amazing. After meeting up, we randomly walked in around 8:30 PM, and they provided us a table in the back al fresco. It was wonderful. We had been able to get water and our menus right away. I also noticed our waitress was responsive, kindly checking in on us, and was present for any additional meal options and drinks. It was such a change from the last visit. This experience was wonderful, and we were all pleased. Plus, my friend from Italy really wanted some delicious pizza, and pretty much all my friends from work wanted to try this spot, and it did not disappoint. The pizza had a bit of char, and the flavor was amazing. I had the Cipricciosa (hope this is spelled right), and it was heavenly. It had olives, ham, cheese, and fresh tomatoes...so deliciously good! Decided to come back to sample some other items on their menu. We ordered the Fritto Misto (fried calamari, shrimp and zucchini) to start. For mains, we had the seafood Tiella Pasta, La Carbonara Pizza, Star Pizza and Chicken Parm. The staff at the bar listed all the specials of the day and while everything sounded worth a taste, we only had 2 stomachs between the two of us (someone alleges they have a secret one for emergencies) so we took our time and selected the fried burrata, angel and devil and pizza, and a pasta dish. So I ordered Seafood TIella (Homemade spaghetti w/ shrimps, calamari, mussels in light cherry tomato sauce, served with focaccia pizza bread, $25.50) and Capricciosa (Tomato sauce, mozzarella, ham, olives, artichokes, mushrooms and basil, $19.50) through Uber Eats. Seafood TIella looked really enticing. The pasta and seafood were fresh and plentiful. It was phenomenal and definitely a must-try. I devoured the whole thing without even taking a picture of it.
