Forno Tony made my sister's birthday genuinely special. This is authentic Roman style pizza, scissor cut and sold by weight, so we tried several slices instead of committing to one pie. Every single one delivered: crisp, airy crust, quality toppings, nothing generic. The gelato and pastries were just as good. Clearly made in house and worth the visit on their own. What really makes this place is the people. You can tell the family running it trained in Rome and does things the traditional way. It feels like stepping into an old school Italian bakery. They went out of their way to make the birthday feel celebrated. I don't live in Rochester anymore, but this place could genuinely make me think about retiring back in ROC. Go early, it fills up fast, and try a few different slices. Highly recommend.

Stop booking that trip to Rome and just drive over to Forno Tony for an authentic taste of Roman style pizza and Italian fare! Parking is free and abundant in the lot next to the building. There is a large window which you can see the chefs/bakers at Forno Tony press out fresh pizza doughs. Expect a line but it is worth it! The pastry case is not huge so don't expect a wide array of options, just a handful of pastries that are excellently executed. The pizzas are cut in the Roman style with large scissors and you pay by weight. Seems like they do a lot of different specials and experimentation with toppings. I would suggest getting a simple slice like a tomato/cheese and a more indulgent slice. The simple slice will show you Forno Tony gets the simple things done right. Crispy bottom with a focaccia/soft like interior dough. High quality olive oil and seasoned perfectly with salt to elevate the few but quality ingredients. *I would recommend eating the pizza shortly after purchase or the day it's bought and warm! This is not a pizza that should be reheated the next day or eaten cold!* Did not have a chance to try the Gelato but it is made in house and looked delicious! This shop is open Thursday-Saturday. The team here clearly is putting love into their food and genuinely is baking up some of the best tasting Pizza anywhere!

The best Italian food ever. There is nothing equal in Rochester. The pizza and focaccia was so authentic! I could not make up my mind which ones so we brought home more than one each and still raving about all! Then there are the pastries and Gelato take a punto or 2 home with you . Get the Sfogliatelle they are true heaven with a nice cup of espresso ! Tony & Ryan you need to open up on the west and south side everyone needs to experience your fantastic menu ! Auguri

Gelato....fabulous. Pizza....fabulous, we tried spinach, almost just like I ate when I was growing up, it was lacking sauce on top of the top crust. We tried one with prosciutto and another with veg and ricotta. My only feedback was our server stacked the ricotta ones in the box, literally the only ones that would stick to each other and screw up the topping. Tried the maritozzo which was very underwhelming.

A little difficult to find, but what a hidden gem in our city! After it taking a few trips around the building to figure out the location, my friend and I stopped in to give Forno Tony's a try. As soon as you walk inside the building the delicious scent of pizza, sauce. and yumminess hits you in the face, and it's wonderful!! We went around noon and it was a Friday afternoon- the place was packed!!! Hit or miss with the friendliness of the staff members- but the ones that were nice made my experience there 1000% better (of course). It was a very busy time so understandable. Pizza was good, desserts were wonderful!! I will be back for more and also to try the gelato!

Wow - this place took me back to Italia and to summer days with my grandma. The flavors, texture, seasoning, everything is perfected. We tried a carbonara inspired slice and I would've never thought of making that into a pizza but it works so well. But the piece that really did it for us was the tomato, basil and burrata. I could picture my grandma sitting with me cutting a warm tomato out of the garden and preparing a classic tomato salad for lunch or waking up in Italia to the smell of my aunt cooking at 6am to prepare a massive family lunch later in the day. What you would think of a basic, easy to make slice, has been so perfected. From the fresh tomato, to the creamy burrata, the drip of great olive oil and just enough salt and basil to make all of the flavors pop together. You know a place is great when a "basic" is one of their best products. Pastries were great too but I'll be dreaming when I can make my next visit back to Italia and my family for a while after eating that pizza.

Four slices trimmed to fit the box- $18.88.

Know before you go that they are likely to be busy- use your time in line to see and hear what is available and make your decisions before being asked for your order. They cut/slice the pizza to the size you want and you pay by weight. You can have the slices warmed ( or not) with or without added olive oil ( definitely a yes). Folks are friendly and efficient.

A Slice of Rome in Rochester If you're planning a trip to Italy, make this your first stop. This pizzeria offers the most authentic Italian pizza I've tasted in the United States--and I split my time between the U.S. and Italy, so that's saying something. My nephew owns a similar-style pizzeria in Rome, and the flavors here instantly transported me back. Every pizza I've tried has been unique and memorable, but the Pizza Bianca con Mortadella stands out as my personal favorite. It's pure nostalgia in every bite. The gelato is equally impressive--smooth, rich, and absolutely true to its Italian roots. And the desserts? As authentic as you'll find outside of Italy. The staff are warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. You can feel the pride they take in bringing a real taste of Italy to Rochester. Hats off to the owners for creating something truly special. Ce' solo la Roma. Daje!

Forno Tony is a gem! It's fairly new but I think it will become a Rochester staple in no time :) It is located in an unassuming warehouse on university street, next to Black button distillery. While the hours are limited, it makes up for it with its amazing selection of Italian baked goods, pizza, and sandwiches. I opted for a peach and pistachio flavored baked good which a lot of flavor without being overly sweet. The bread was addictive - not dry, very light and fluffy. We also got a breakfast sandwich and pizza bagel type dish. Everything was absolutely delightful. Server was really helpful and patient while we tried to pick out which baked good to indulge in. We learned that the Buffalo Bills had made a stop there recently and a signed jersey hangs on the wall! They also offered gelato which we will definitely take advantage of it some point. I believe they are opening up from 6 to 9 PM in addition to their regular hours but only in the summer time. If you want the non-breakfast style food and want to try their pizza I would come after 11 AM as they do not serve it until then. Regardless the breakfast options alone are to die for. We will be making another stop very soon.

I ordered the pasta and shrimp special, which was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. Unfortunately, my daughter is vegetarian and ordered the Gnocchi Rossi, which was quite disappointing. It lacked flavor and was very bland compared to my meal. The biggest downside of our visit was the service. We were trying to enjoy some quality mother-daughter time together, but our waitress interrupted us constantly--almost every time we took a bite. We repeatedly assured her that everything was fine, yet she continued coming back to the table. At one point, while we were still actively eating, she asked if we were ready for boxes. When I said no, she replied, "Oh, okay, you're just taking your time." It definitely felt like we were being rushed rather than encouraged to relax and enjoy our meal. To top it off, we were never offered dessert or after-meal options. Despite feeling a bit rushed and annoyed by the constant interruptions, we still left a good tip because the waitress was working hard and remained polite. Overall, the food was a mixed experience, the atmosphere was wonderful, but the service made what should have been a relaxing mother-daughter lunch feel hurried.

The restaurant was quite crowded during Friday happy hour, and one server was responsible for both the tables and the bar. He was clearly overworked, so we were not attended to as consistently as we hoped and we only had time for one round of orders. The food took a long time to arrive, while the drinks came out almost immediately. *Cosmopolitan Bianca: was very heavy on the gin. I could only taste the lime, with no hint of cranberry or hibiscus. The hibiscus reduction added a pretty purple color but did not provide any tart or floral flavor. *Sweet Potato Fries: were not perfectly crispy, but the portion size was generous. The honey could have used additional spices, since the dish leaned heavily toward sweetness. *Pepperoni Pizza: This was a good shareable option, although it lacked a proper char and crust even when fresh. The dough sat in a noticeable amount of salty oil. The pepperoni cupped nicely and added a slight bit of texture, but the rest of the pizza was rather soggy. The happy hour menu was serviceable, but nothing was executed particularly well. It is not a bad spot for small bites after work, but I would not go out of my way to dine here.

We were quoted about a 40-minute wait for a table, but told bar seating might open up sooner (around 30 minutes). Once we got seated at the bar, things turned around quickly. The space has a really cozy, intimate vibe with dim lighting, warm atmosphere and overall it feels thoughtfully put together. We ordered hot toddies to drink, which were perfect for the weather, and for food we got the Japanese sweet potatoes and the cavolo nero pesto. It's a small space inside but it's designed well enough to manage a flow of traffic for customers and staff. We sat in the back greenhouse area. I think the least enjoyable part of our experience was how loud it was in the restaurant. Definitely not a good spot if you're trying to catch up with someone and your voice doesn't carry. I couldn't actually hear the specials the server was telling us. I want to try out Vern's again, so I may wait until there's an outdoor table or ask to sit in the second level to see if that's quieter. We tried one of their spring menu appetizer items, the Japanese sweet potatoes with kimchi ranch and dill. One bite and I was addicted, these were so so good. We then moved on to the classics for entrees -- bee sting pizza and the ragu-- and we were amazed at how good everything was! The only note we had was about the pizza, it was very soggy in the middle but still edible if you rolled it over in itself. We also had a few cocktails, and while they were somewhat small, you could tell they weren't watered down in any way. Two drinks was more than enough for me. Overall it was a great experience and we want to try it again. If you're someone who struggles to enjoy a meal out where you can't hear much, maybe wait for outdoor tables.

She sat us down and gave us menus (didn't mention the specials) and then proceeded to go and turn on all of the Christmas decorations in the restaurant and tell us about her deals when purchasing all of them. Finally upon her return the waitress took our drink orders and when I asked she gave us the listing of specials for the evening. My niece had a specialty mocktail that was described as having a "hint" of lavender- turns out the other items were done with a hint and all my niece (and I tasted) was the strong presence of lavender. For appetizers we ordered fried calamari that came with the typical red sauce- the fried calamari was good, but nothing special. We also ordered the lamp lollipops for an additional app and let me just say- they were the BEST part about our dinner! Perfectly cooked to medium rare and seasoned and grilled to perfection. It was my neices first time trying them and she said she couldn't wait to have them again. For our main dishes, my niece had the penne vodka- which was "okay" but really lacked on favor, nothing really special about it. I honestly think she makes it better at home. For my entree I had the Salmon- which came with a very thick strawberry sauce over the top of it. My fish was cooked perfectly and tasted great- without the thick "strawberry like" sauce over the top of it (I ended up scraping it off of the fish. I also wasn't a fan of the black rice-it had a very off putting smell and after having my first taste decided one bite was enough.
