I told them I would do it myself, and reinstalled the original thermostat, which worked fine. 2 months later (in December) the furnace stopped. I called them, they said they would try to get here that day. We waited all day with no response. They came the day after and said they needed to order a part, but could not tell us when it would arrive. Into the weekend, after 2 full days without heat, they said to get heat on the weekend would cost $1200, or $700 if we waited until Monday or Tuesday. We chucked them and called another company. That company said this was a common problem and should have been caught in the inspection. They could come on the weekend to do it for $1000, or do it on Monday for $500. I shouldn't have called back after the thermostat issue, but I sure won't call again, and recommend anyone else also look elsewhere

But suddenly they had a new policy that they would not make any purchases because supposedly another client was unhappy with a prior purchase. They refused to listen when I told them I didn't care what they purchased, and Chris never bothered to respond to my email. Needless to say, we immediately hired another plumber who came right out (after purchasing the part) and did a great job, and this was our last attempt to work with Belli.

When I saw that all of Dolan's 8 recommended reviews were 5 star (except for one that complained Dolan wanted to ask her questions about the specifics of her plumbing situation before giving an estimate) I decided to give Mr Dolan a call too. He was polite and very upfront that his work is charged by time, not flat rate, and that we might be financially better off working with someone more local to us. In spite of the fact that he then knew we would be employing a closer plumber, he spent considerable time on the phone looking at the plumbing photos I texted him and explaining the particular issues a plumber would have to resolve in our 1970's plumbing situation. It was obvious he was experienced, knowledgeable, and generous with information. Through my own experience over the years, I have found that when service professionals give flat rates without any questions asked, they are assuming that it will be a standard job. I appreciate when the plumber tries to understand the particular plumbing circumstances with questions and photos BEFORE the estimate, and before appointments are made. Many yelp reviewers of plumbers are surprised and unhappy when they only are told the job will cost more once the plumber arrives, and then the plumber expects to be paid for time spent coming to the house. The impression that Mr Dolan left with me from our single phone conversation is that he is a person of integrity who wants people to understand their particular plumbing situation, what the remedies might be, and then what the cost might be, so they can make educated decisions BEFORE the plumber comes in and expects to get paid for the visit. Solely because of the extra cost that would be incurred by us as a result of the distance, we did not hire Mr Dolan, but we would certainly recommend considering him if your project is closer to his location.

Finally, Paul came out to fix it himself, removed the whole mess and started again. The end state was fine enough but it took 3 separate days of service calls and a near flooding of our house. Also, they tried to charge us for more than one service call! I believe this was more of an issue with their automated billing but sure left us with a bad taste. Now, two years later, we have to rip open the ceiling under the tub because -surprise- that's a slow leak in the pipes A&L installed. There are lots of other contractors out there. Use one of them.
