This place is all the rage but aside from the outstanding bread, I thought it was just a sandwich. I didn't get what the hype was all about.

I'm a big fan of Italian style sandwiches. This spot uses schiacciata bread, which is like focaccia but it has a crispier surface. I arrived on a Sunday just prior to opening, and the line was quite long. Fortunately it moved quickly. Service was very friendly and the shop was very clean. I ordered the caprese (stracciatella, tomato, basil pesto, black garlic balsamic). It was fantastic! The bread was quite good. The ingredients were very fresh. The sandwich itself also had great structural integrity as it did not fall apart when I was eating it. Highly recommended! read more

This place is non assuming exterior with no on site parking. But it was worth parking a few blocks away. We got to go since there is very limited seating inside. Also not a lot of room inside to wait for your order, so bring a jacket. We probably waited about 10 min for our food. We had the number 1 and 6. The bread was light, crispy and flakey all at the same time. It was slightly thinner than normal but it made the bread to content ratio great. The 1 was buttery, salty and a little sweet. I loved it but wish it had some veggie on to provide more contrast in flavors. The 6 was great but adding some meat would have made it better. Definitely would go again. read more

Best sandwich I've had in the long time. The Bottega and Fortuna we so good I wouldn't change a thing.

Very good sandwiches. The Bambino was the standout, a lot of meat on that sandwich. Bottega was spicy, almost too much meat, needed something sweet to offset the salt and spice. Balsamic drip? Bread is very good, not overly crisp as some have mentioned. The serving staff was prompt and helpful, restaurant was busy and packed but clean. Nice seating option in the garage, I'd suggest replace the large picnic style tables with more 2 tops. The line was out the door, length of building at 12:00pm, we we ordered within 10 minutes. Very prompt. Music is fun 80s stye. The food comes out very fast, probably 6-8 people working, assembly line style, pay attention for your number. read more

For the west coast, I think this is close to one of the best sandwiches you are going to find. You can always tell when a place is doing something special because the people working are happy to be there, that's definitely the case here. I think the best move is the caprese sandwich add prosciutto, but the quality of ingredients are some good that the bambino, which is basically ham and soft cheese, is equally good. You could probably just eat the bread and be happy. Informal open-garage style sitting area adds to the vibe. Not flashy, just great Italian sandwiches made with intention. read more

I looove an italian sadnwich so was excited when this spot opened up nearby! Luckily we had a friend pick up sandwiches for us, so we didn't have to wait in line but he said the line was short when he got there at 12:15pm on a weekday! I got the bambino which is their mortadella and straciatella sandwich and my partner got the bottega. They were both pretty good, but I liked the bottega more! The prosciutto was good and wasn't really the type where you take a bite but you end up just eating the whole piece of prosciutto bc you can't rip it with your teeth (maybe this is a me problem lol). The bambino was good too but I felt like it was a little simple. I just wish there was maybe one more ingredient. The bread was also a bit thin and crunchy for me, but overall it was a decent sandwich! read more

Overall a good sandwich but doesn't meet the hype of value point for me. Long-ish wait which is fine if the food is good. Well blended flavors and seemingly high-quality ingredients but overall pretty light on fillings and it was really missing that little something out it over the top. I was left finishing my $21 sandwich feeling a bit underwhelmed and will be hitting my regular sandwich spots more frequently. read more

I was a little intimidated by the bread & size but it's all so perfectly paired and balanced. Go hungry & savor every bite! I realize this may sound cliche, but I have been to Italy many times and Fortuna brings the flavour right here to Phinney! This rivals the very best sandwich I have EVER tasted at Borderi Gli Artisti in Siracusa on Sicily! The schiacchiatta bread, top notch, fresh as a newborn kitten, with a crust just crunchy enough that the jawbone is not overworked and scrumptiously soft inside, as it should be. Cappicola hitting the perfect spice note balanced sensuously with truffle Gorgonzola, and arugula. Also just a touch of chili oil to send it right over the top! Beyond this, the family vibe made the experience as comfortable as an evening bubble bath. These are some of the nicest people I have ever met, so obviously dedicated to making each customer's experience a true delight. Seattle has a lot of capacity for more sandwich shops, and Fortuna Bottega is a welcome addition. Had the Bambino, Bottega, and Fortuna. All were really good in their own way. The Bambino was a bit more straightforward but really highlighted the mortadella and bread. The Bottega had some heat that played well with buttery prosciutto and fresh arugula. The Fortuna featured tender porchetta with creamy but mild truffle blue cheese. None of these are meat bombs, so don't expect a pile of Italian meats. Instead, you get a balanced, thoughtful, and well made meal. Super excited to have a new sandwich option in the neighborhood. We tried the Bambino and the Bottega. All of my four stars are for the Bambino -- it was a pillowy delight of thinly sliced mortadella and strachiatella nestled between two crunchy pieces of schiacciata (think thin focaccia) that had just enough give and textural contrast with the interior. The black garlic balsamic vinaigrette they recommended for the side was a nice occasional addition to a bite. Unfortunately we did not like the Bottega nearly as well -- although the flavor was good (if too salty), there was a fairly thick layer of large folded slices of poorly trimmed prosciutto with a thin, very chewy layer right along the rind. This made for an unpleasantly chewy, stringy, salty eating experience; we eventually pulled apart the innards and discarded most of the prosciutto. I say this in the spirit of constructive feedback: If you are going to charge me $20 for a medium-sized sandwich, I expect it to be note-perfect, and this was not that. Will come back for the Bambino and to sample some of the other offerings. read more

Coming from NY, I had to try this place for it's Italian sandwiches. Loved the vibe and the energy inside and the service was fast and accurate. This was my first visit and I will definitely go back to try different sandwiches. The bread was better than great! I had the Soprano - there was something in there I did not appreciate (gorgonzola) but the meat was first rate and delicious, as were the other seasonings. Can't wait to return when I am in the area. Oh my word! Fortuna nails it. It is so, so delicious. You are greeted with the scent of freshly baked bread (Italian Schiacciata bread) and there's a conveniently placed basket of crispy bread (with good olive oil) luring you to the counter. Take a bite while you order your sandwich. I love that the menu is easy to navigate and you can slightly customize or add/subtract items if you want! I have been to a similar shop in Italy and NYC and we are so blessed to have Fortuna in Seattle, that holds its own compared to any place! The friendly staff, owners- they make you feel like you are having lunch at their home! We love it. It is a good value as the quality is in the ingredients and you may get a 2nd meal out of one sandwich, as the bread holds well until the next day! Thank you! read more

I lined up 30 minutes before opening on a Thursday and there was still quite a wait. I ordered the Bambino to try their mortadella sandwich. This is one of three places on my list, including Hushy's an Botega Garbriel. The Stracchiatella bread is freshly baked and it's like a thinner focaccia with crunchy exterior, but soft interior is light as a feather. You can taste the light touch of olive oil in the bread. As a bread baker, this would s wonderful bread. Personally this is what made the sandwich aside from the thin slices of mortadella. The Bambino itself is just the bread, the thin slices of mortadella, pistachios, and the ricotta-like cheese and drizzles of olive oil. There are no condiments on the sandwich, which brings me to my only negative about this place. Maybe the terminology didn't click but the word "sauce" on the menu = condiment. The sandwich was good, but it was a bit bland and could've used some acidity. I noticed someone had ordered the same sandwich, but he had a big drizzle of dark thick balsamic and a little cup full of chilies. I did get asked if I wanted sauces and of course I didn't. Why would I want sauce on my sandwich? Only after ordering the sandwich that I realize that it needed something else and it was these condiments, which are a dollar up charge for each. If you were to make a bologna sandwich, would you want to be charged a dollar for the mustard and a dollar for ketchup if you wanted it? That's about the equivalent of what is going on here. If I'm paying $18 for an Italian bologna sandwich already it should come with at least maybe some cheap balsamic and then upsell the fancy black garlic stuff for a dollar extra. It might've been nice too to have some arugula in this or something else. If I would've known this, I would've not eaten the sandwich there and just take it home and put some olive oil and arugula from my kitchen on it before eating It was good to try, the quality of the ingredients is excellent but the bambino sandwich really does need something else such as some arugula and some acid component. I also suggest changing the word sauce to condiments. At almost $20 for an undressed sandwich I probably won't be back. read more
