My new favorite brunch spot in Seattle! My husband and I went here on a Sunday morning. While there were quite a few folks waiting for a table outside, all of us got seated in about 10 minutes. They have a clipboard outside with names/party sizes so you can see where you are in line. Once seated at the counter, our server was quick to take our orders. Prices are decent and reasonable in my mind, especially given the amounts of food. I could not finish my freagy greagy omelet, which was absolutely delicious! quite a unique meal this was really two separate parts the first was an interesting combination it was a bed of english muffins, which had smoked pork and bacon on top, and which then had poached eggs on top, and everything was topped with chipotle hollandaise as for the first part, the main part of the meal was the smoked pork / bacon, so I'll start there I'm not the biggest fan of smoked/pulled pork in general, so I didn't enjoy this as I might have another meat, but what I did really appreciate was how well everything was cooked There was a certain density to the pork that I really liked - where pulling the pork apart with a fork and knife took some effort - it didn't easily pull apart I also really liked the crispy exterior The second part was the poached eggs. Similar to the pork, I typically don't like poached eggs that much - and I thought they were fine here I did enjoy the way these combined with the pork, however The hollandaise sauce was good but a) there was no hint of chipotle at all and b) I didn't feel like it was as creamy as it could be. It added a nice sweeter taste but I thought it could've been better - maybe the weakest part of the meal The most underrated part of the main section was the english muffins. These were beautiful on the outside, and each bite was dense and chewy. Normally, that's not a good thing, but it worked so well here. Having the rest of the main meal sit on this was a great idea - as it provided a great gravity to everything. Eating these was my most enjoyable part of the main section I can't go this long without talking about the second part of this overall dish - which were the hash browns This is what really takes this this from average to quite good There's a beautiful, crispy, golden brown covering on the outside that tastes so good - and the inside is unbelievably soft - I haven't had hash browns this soft before. This contrast between the outside and inside is quite fantastic. The other great thing is the serving size - nearly the entire plate is filled with this delicious side. Good breakfast option in the U district if you're looking for large portions and a sit down meal. I have been here twice and waitstaff is not overly friendly but gets the job done (refills of water, checks on you). One thing that could be improved is cleanliness as I watched one waitress almost put her finger on my omelette. Watching the waitresses work I definitely recommend they wash their hands more instead of doing things that could risk cross contamination and is not food safe. They get busy here but in the food industry you should never be too busy to not wash your hands or not practice safe food handling. Watching the cooks work though was awesome. They work hard and take pride in their work which is always awesome to see. For the food I definitely recommend an omelette as they have plenty of options (vegetarian friendly) and the portions are large! The food can be a bit greasy though. Food is good but it's mid being honest as nothing blows me away. I do enjoy the menu has plenty of options and is more traditional but also has options like Chinese pancake and Greek sausage which is nice. The restaurant looks clean, bathrooms are clean, and the restaurant is very spacious and bright. Greek American diner around the UDistrict area. Parking is available in a lot but is very limited, though there is decent number of free street parking. I went here for a brunch on Friday and it was not busy. They open really early also, and apparently allow people to chill before the kitchen opens for some coffee as they wish, which is nice. I got the Greek Hobo which is one of Guy Fieri's favorites. It's good but a little pricey at $19.50, but large portions. The typical American style diner that is large portions for high prices, thereby limiting the amount of variety you can get. The dish comes with choice of toast so I got wheat, and they slab on a good amount of butter on it. The dish had Greek sausage which is a beef sausage, egg, hash browns, and feta, all of which mixed together well. I'd have loved if the hash browns were crispier but otherwise, decent dish that emphasizes more in quantity than quality. The portion is huge that I did not feel the need to eat another meal after consuming 2/3rd of the dish. I took the rest for leftovers which reheated up well. Service is okay. For an American diner, I expected more prompt water refills and checking up if I needed anything. There are some people that bus the tables better but the waitress assigned to my table was fairly absent during the dining experience. read more

Overall, I'd say it is a 3.5/5. For Seattle it is a smaller, more affordable breakfast location. The food is good, I got a more traditional breakfast and it was decent. The ham was very fatty and greasy and the bread is just toast from a vendor, not homemade unfortunately. They have more options on the menu that are more "exotic", if you would so it really depends on what you order. The service isn't great, my water got refilled maybe once so after having waited to be seated it was nothing special. The restaurant itself is sort of compact however, they seem to seat a lot of people. The prices are good, the food is decent, the service is not great so, I probably wouldn't return. read more

I really like this cafe. It's nostalgic of old diners and family ran businesses. The house made sausage is delicious and it is filled with flavor and spices. It's grilled right on the griddle and you don't get any strange tastes of Jimmy Dean or pork substitutes. It's hearty and lean. I tried the Benedict's, Greek omelette and the Denver. All are excellent and you can taste the balance between traditional American flavors and Greek influences in the food. I would share its love in the food. The service is really good and it's a great place to take kids as there a corner with cars and toys. Ambiance is very Seattle, blue collar, fisherman, and slightly industrial. The service was pretty speedy for as busy as it was! The food was good and is very generously portioned too. We had to take it to go. Also an unexpected delight was the fact that you can sub vegan sausage for any dish. The ambiance is kind of what you'd expect from an older diner. The tables are small and somewhat crowded into the T shaped layout with the kitchen in the middle of it all. Would definitely recommend trying the Guy Fieri recommended items and either coming hungry or knowing you'll be taking left overs. Voula's café feels straight out of a hallmark movie with the kindest servers, cutest retro decor, and yummy diner style food. I came to Voulas because my friend recommended me and it did not disappoint. I came around 9 am and the service was pretty speedy and even more importantly the waitress was so kind and helpful. She came to ask if we needed anything multiple times. I got the naked hobo and it was pretty yummy. I would say definitely get the house made hot sauce with anything you order because I added that on top and the flavors were automatically enhanced. I think this order would be perfect if I added avocado and more veggies to it but honestly it's such comfort food that it was amazing anyways. Let's face it; in Seattle the REAL diners, the traditional diners, are a vanishing breed. Within the city limits, you can probably count the true 'traditional' diners on the fingers of one hand. There are plenty of restaurants that call themselves diners, but let's be brutally honest: they're doing Diner Cosplay. These places are staffed with insufferably ironic, '2Cool4U' hipsters, and the dishes are cutesy 'interpretations' of classic diner fare which are too clever for their own good. And of course, you pay a premium to live in these 'Diner Cosplay Fantasies', as they are usually found in hipster neighborhoods like Wallingford, Queen Anne, Eastlake, etc. So where do you find the last of the True Diners? Go to where people actually work with their hands for a living (and I don't mean tapping on a keyboard). Head for the waterfront. In West Seattle, the Chelan Cafe is the place to be. In the U-District, which shares space with a LOT of maritime businesses along the shores of Lake Union, it's Voula's or nothing. THE ROSES: The first thing that strikes you is realizing Voula's actually LOOKS like what you expect a diner to look like: well loved furniture, counter dining. The kitchen and griddle are right there, across from the counter! The menu is nothing but traditional diner fare (some dishes have Greek twists, butt that's not unheard of). The staff is efficient and friendly; not a hipster to be seen. All the dishes are executed perfectly, and there are some real treats, like real old-fashioned malts! THE THORNS: It's Seattle; parking can sometimes be an issue. Voula's is also a strictly 'breakfast and lunch' joint. THE VERDICT: The authentic diner is a vanishing breed in Seattle, but happily Voula's bucks the trend. For an honest meal served by genuine people, this is the place to go! Eating here made me feel like I was in a diner from Twilight. I'm not even kidding, I heard the waitress ask someone if they wanted their usual! It was very welcoming and overall super yummy too. The portions are really big and I ended up having lots of leftovers. I ordered the biscuits, hashbrowns, pancakes, and greek yogurt with walnuts and honey. Ordered from this cafe since our first choice didn't work out and i'm glad we did! This was our first time trying a greek cafe and I was pleasantly surprised. I thought the salmon worked nicely with the eggs (though I didn't expect it would be scrambled together) and wasn't fishy at all. My friends thought their omelettes were great. I didn't love how the pork in the benedict was sliced (texture similar to turkey) but it was fine, and the sauce was delicious. My only complaint is that the hash browns were unseasoned, and didn't even have salt or pepper, so some sort of sauce/condiment is definitely necessary. I had breakfast here several years ago and had forgotten how to get here. Happily, I was able to find them this morning and ordered Billy's biscuits along with a side of bacon. Perfection. This was my second trip in less than two weeks, so I could get the Freagy Greegy. The good and the bad: Once I find something I like about a place, that ends up being my go to dish. In this case, it's the Freagy Greegy omelette that comes with Greek sausage, red onions, spinach and feta. The bad would be the resistance of veering from my favorite dish to try something else on the menu (eg, Ragin' Cajun B&G, Piñata Benedict, Smokey the Salmon w/ light cream cheese - thanks Quinn!) and finding out they are equally delicious. My husband got The Oddinator with BBQ sauce on the side, which is smoked pork, mushrooms, green onion and swiss cheese. It was tasty and came with generous amounts of shrooms. I generally prefer a scramble over an omelette, as I like everything mixed together. However, Voula's has changed my mind about the omelette. The egg is a thin, smooth layer that is evenly cooked and wrapped nicely around all the filling. Thank you fellow Yelper, Marie B. for the first introduction to Voula's and the Freagy Greegy. My family and I love this place! It's a family-owned restaurant and they offer a plethora of vittles that cross the board. You may have seen Voula's on Triple D with Guy F. That was over 15 years ago, and we haven't stopped returning. Even moved away and this was the first place I wanted to go upon our return visit! The omlettes are amazing, the Pinata Benny is mouth-watering good. One item I cannot place enough emphasis on - the HASHBROWNS. They are #1 in my book and I've eaten a lot of hashbrowns. Great Local Diner! Just walk in and take a seat and let the attentive staff take care of you! I got the Greek Hobo breakfast plate and I had no idea it was a Guy Fieri recommendation spot from the tv show. My brother got the country fried steak and eggs and it's a hearty plate and good. We sat and had coffee for about two hours while our father had surgery at UW, the waitress never rushed us to leave and kept refilling our coffee and asked if there was anything else we needed each and every time. I believe she could see we were dealing with some kind of stress and she told us that there was no rush and to take our time. That was very appreciated. We came to Voula's after dropping someone off at UW Medical Center early in the morning. We were very thankful to find somewhere so close to the hospital that had such a great expansive menu. The food is typical diner food nothing insanely special, but it was definitely still yummy! I ordered the grilled cheese at 8 in the morning and thankfully they have their full menu at all hours. I also had a chocolate chip pancake (I know, weird combo) and it was one of the best I have had. The pancake was perfectly cooked and the chocolate chips were small and spread evenly which made for the perfect pancake to chocolate ratio. Our table also ordered a mushroom and Swiss omelette and the hobo which were pretty good, however they needed a generous amount of ketchup due to lack of seasoning. The portions were huge and made the prices more worth it. The sourdough bread was buttered, but I wanted the dough to taste a little more flavorful and have that unique sourdough tang to it. Before our hike, my friends and I decided to order take out from here since it was one of the few spots open early in the morning and serving hot food. It's a cute diner right off a main road. For pick up orders, they direct you to the side of the window where the parking lot is. I saw on their menu that they had a section for Guy Fieri's choices so we all basically ordered something from there. I got the Hobo which had sausage, mushrooms, onions, eggs, hash browns all mixed together and then topped with melted cheddar cheese. It was definitely a huge portion and I actually wished there was more eggs and sausage but it was still good. Nothing special but a simple mix of a bunch of breakfast favorites. Guy Fieri famously doesn't like eggs because he has trauma from a rotten egg when he was little... so imagine my surprise to see an Eggs Benedict at the top of the "Guy Fieri's Favorites" section of the menu. Logically, I thought these eggs must be something else if Guy Fieri likes the dish and boy did I think right! This dish alone is why I can confidently say Voula's is my favorite breakfast/brunch spot in Seattle. The eggs are perfect, the meat is bursting with the flavor, and the biscuit has a perfect amount of crisp even under a liquid yolk. I've been to the restaurant 5 times now and each time I expect to try something new but I have now ordered the Piñata Benedict 5 times. And I like to try new things. Luckily, this review is not just based off one dish because I tried some of my family's food and it was just as good. TLDR: Great ambiance, great service, great portions, great Piñata Benedict, long wait but thats the price you pay. read more
