Some of our food was edible but we had to throw out the bulk of it. The chicken seemed old and re-fried from another day. Too tough to eat, and dripping with fryer oil. The fried rice was dry but tasted okay, but we both had a bad reaction to the food we ate, so it all went in the bin. Very disappointing, as the reviews left room for hope. We came to visit an old friend and decided to have dinner here. The food was great and the server was very friendly. This restaurant made us feel very warm and welcomed. Diners ate here all local and they know each other very well. We ordered typical Hong Kong style food: fried rice, Singaporean noodle, Mongolian two delight, and sizzling platter. Three words: sizzling rice soup! A few years back, a rando at a craft fair told me I needed to try this at Fortune Mandarin so, of course, I headed right over. Fast forward to present day, and I find myself drawn here over and over for this hot, delish soup that's served right at the table with sizzling hot rice that would make Snap, Crackle, and Pop proud. But besides this wonderful soup, Fortune also offers a giant menu of Mandarin favorites. I especially like their BBQ pork, which is tender and house made. This is one of our favorite Chinese restaurants to go to. Staff, food and drink are awesome!!! We even bring friends and family members who are extremely picky about what they eat and we haven't had one person tell us anything negative about their experience and with what they ordered. Food is so delicious and prices are very reasonable. This is by far one of the best Asian restaurants in Camano Island- Arlington- Burlington area. Suddenly peckish as I drove down I-5, I asked Siri for nearest restaurants. As it happened, Fortune Mandarin was the closest, so I veered off the freeway and walked in. It's very convenient to the freeway. And: it was fantastic! I ordered the cashew chicken with a side of steamed rice, and soon came a heaping helping of fresh, perfectly cooked vegetables and high-quality, well-trimmed chunks of chicken in a light and savory sauce. So good! The restaurant is clean and friendly. There's a bar area that was hopping, but since I was driving I went straight to the dining room, which was calm and welcoming. The menu is extensive and includes a few Filipino items like lumpia. Service was commendably quick, and I was back on the road in a jiffy. One of my largest pet peeve's is when one sits at a sit down restaurant, and waits a long time to have his drink refilled however, the service met those expectations beautifully. Terrible in so many ways! Food was cold and everything felt dirty. We barely ate a few bites before we decided to leave because things just didn't feel clean. This is $15 They brought out a minimally filled hot and sour soup. The little there was was really good. The tea was hot and kept warm with a tea candle. Always wondered why it was called a tea candle. The fried rice was both dry and mushy at the same time. Credit for the impossible. The chicken chow mein was a slight step above a 25 cent packet of ramen. The sweet and sour pork was like little meatless donuts drowned in karo. I'd say they serve up $2.50 worth of crappy food for $15. I've been to China. This is not Chinese food. A plate of rice/noodles/fried breading. Chinese people know this is a diabetic recipe. Our group ordered the combo 3 family dinner for five people, a chicken chow mein, an additional orange chicken and a teriyaki chicken. All of it was very good! The family dinner combo included: sizzling rice soup, mushroom beef, lumpia and crab Rangoon, orange chicken, veg fried rice, walnut shrimp, mandarin chicken, veg chow mein, and kung pao chicken. We had been patronizing this restaurant on a regular basis for several years then suddenly about a year ago or so the quality took a dive, enough so we quit going there. Why this happened who knows but suspect a change in kitchen staff. Since we hadn't been there for sometime we decided to try it again and I am most happy to report it is back in step and even more so. We have gone back a half dozen times recently and ordered a good mix of entrees and haven't been disappointed yet. Definitely deserves five stars. Ingredients are the freshest and everything we ordered was prepared as it should be. I highly recommend this restaurant if you savor great Chinese cuisine. Frankly it is the best overall Chinese restaurant within several miles. I enjoyed the hot and sour soup followed by a great "house special" egg foo yung that was loaded with shrimp, bbq pork and chicken. It also seemed like they partially deep fried the potstickers this time in additon to over salrinf them. They were really good last time, and quite below par this time. It is now clear that the kitchen is a bit inconsistent and the cost is high enough that it is not worth going out of the way. That being said, I could consider it about average for the Skagit Valley.
