I had a 90+ lb (40+ kg) tool chest that needed keys or a new lock, and after I hauled it in the staff quickly walked me through a series of potential outcomes, and that was it. Speechless. My stomach's turning as I think about this... My grandfather passed last year, and I recall him opening this lock box as a child, filled with family memories. I haven't been able to get in, as I have boxes upon boxes of keys. Well I mentioned to my mom Foster Brothers' and how I was going to reach out to them - as grandfather went here for as long as I can remember, and trusted... She apparently took this lock box there, as I went to pick up lunch ( i.e. I wasn't aware of this happening. ) So she goes in with the box and asked if they could get in. It was never communicated to her that their idea of 'getting in' was destructive! Once they started drilling/prying, she stopped them and called me. I nearly threw up upon learning about was happening. What in the world was going through this person's head - you have a lock box that's the better part of a century old, mint condition ( family heirloom might as well of been etched across it...) .... pry/drill the thing open, why not... I'm shocked that this was even considered. And using a DRILL and PRYING the box open should have been clearly communicated prior. BEFORE YOU DESTROY SOMETHING - YOU COMMUNICATE AS CLEARLY AS YOU CAN - CONSENT - CONSENT - CONSENT! It is 2024! The lack of critical thinking is beyond the pale here - and this is NOT the company my grandfather Trusted anymore I suppose. I'm horrified. Again, I can't eat my lunch thinking about this! This person didn't think that this wasn't something I could have done ( as I write this, I'm literally seeing double...so apologies upfront. ) Again, a person goes to a place like this, in order to get services that are beyond that of a drill ( of which I own a couple ) and/or pliers ( again, I have a bunch of these too. ) The things made out of paper thin sheet metal. So disappointed. This is not the company you remember - you have been warned. +++ UPDATE: The day after writing the above, I reached out to the company to see what corrective actions/training might come about - to ensure others in the future could avoid my fate. I had a day to re-calibrate and reflect, asking them in earnest for a talk as adults. That was a little over two weeks at the time of this update, and haven't heard back. ( They can still reach out to me, my doors are open. ) I have to go off of what I know and honestly the silence is deafening. When I mess up, I own up - and try to improve. Been on this planet for a half century, and still when I see this sort of behavior - am deeply sadden. read more

ABOVE AND BEYOND! I went to Home Depot to get a spare key made for my apartment (renting) and the keys DID NOT work. Then I went to Foster Bros, and those keys did not work either. I knew I had a bad door lock because as I was turning the key, the cylinder in the lock was twisting. However, as a renter, I didn't want to buy a new door lock assembly, and I didn't think my landlord would appreciate that either since he has a spare key. The locksmith at Foster Bros was amazing. He tailored three different keys for me to take back to my apartment to see which one would work best (as a way to troubleshoot the problem). Sure enough, one of the keys worked perfectly and better than my original. He did all this extra work and did not charge me. I was super impressed. More than one person spent a good 15-20 minutes in trying to locate the appropriate blank but it turned out that the lock was too unique. I have gotten duplicate keys made here forever. Prices are lower and it's so much easier than the kiosks at places like Home Depot. You just hand them the key and they do the rest. There were two other people in the shop a head of me and a minute later someone stepped out and helped me. Two duplicates of 6 different keys, 12 total, in less than 10 minutes!!! I got my first house keys to my parents house here, duplicates of my first place, my second place, my security gate, etc... I highly recommend them. Super friendly people. read more

My front door lock was broken. This is not a simple lock from Home Depot. My handyman told me I will have to order whole new lock. I was looking online and the lock would be shipped from the East Coast and it was $550 for the lock without labor. Then I decided to ask the guys in Foster Brothers since I make all my keys here. They told me that Mike S. specializes in these locks and he will look at the lock and see if it can be repaired. He ordered only the part needed and fixed it for 1/2 the price. Copied my keys here. Super fast service, and low cost. copied 3 keys here and each key took just a few minutes. I had gone to Home Depot at first, but they didn't have the blank keys. The guy at Home Depot referred me to Foster Brothers. I thought the safe key I had couldn't be copied, but he was able to copy it. For a car key copy, he was able to copy it, but I didn't want to order the version with the chip, so he just copied the metal part which opens the door but doesn't start the car. I needed to get my front door lock replaced. I sent photos of my door. After waiting for over a month for them to get a new lock, I have given up. Called twice, walked in once over the first month. They claimed they could not order brass hardware that would work. In the end since it has been since mid February, I assume they will never get in any hardware. The yelp highly rated locksmith coming out these week, has the gear in the finish I want. So no plan to use Foster brothers in the future. read more

Lost my keys to my 2012 Honda, within 20 minutes of arriving to the business, I had a new key. He reprogrammed it and I was good to go. Towards the end of day, I discovered the lost car keys in the house but now they needed to be reset and I had 3 minutes to get to their storefront before closing. Arrived a little frazzled and stressed, he kindly unlocked the door and proceeded to programmed the lost key. He was very calm and nice about everything, put me at ease. The gentleman could have flashed me the closed sign in my face and given me "come back to tomorrow, we are closed". I will gladly use their services again in the future. read more

This is an actual real locksmith with a real storefront, not just a call center that is going to send some random contractor out. That being said, I haven't used them for remote services (like calls to come to my house). Only for in-store shopping, having keys made, etc. There was one case where they didn't have the right technology in house to do the exotic key I needed, and they kindly referred me to another storefront place (a competitor!) in another city, which was able to do the job. Classy move, to help your customers get good service even if it means sending them somewhere else. So I like and trust these guys. read more

I went to make a duplicate key a few weeks ago and they charged me $10 and I went there to make duplicate for same exact same key again and this time they charged me $15. So, the price is whatever they feel like charging depending on their mood. read more

Needed a car key cut for my old Pathfinder. The price $85, which is great considering the dealer and other places will charge you double easily. They even sprayed some cleaner into all my door locks because one was a little stuck. Recently, I posted a review of Foster Brothers Security Systems (in Sunnyvale), indicating what great service, and what a great job I had received from them during a recent visit to replace some downstairs door knobs and locks, and to re-key them to my existing house key. As previously mentioned, Chuck came out and did a great job! He was on-time, friendly, and clearly knew what he was doing, and the results were great! After seeing what good results I had received with that service call, I scheduled another service call in order for the upstairs door knobs all to be replaced. Once again, Chuck came out and did a superb job. Once again, he was on time, friendly, helpful with information, and the upstairs door knobs are now beautiful! I totally believe in letting people, or companies, know when they have done a good job. I have now had 2 very satisfactory door knob, lock, re-keying jobs done by Chuck from Foster Brothers, and also in speaking with the other employees who had arranged for this service call. Yesterday, I happened to mention to the manager of our HOA what a great company Foster Brothers is, and that the work they do is outstanding! I asked Matt, our HOA manager, if our 2 HOA handymen know about this locksmith company. When I named the company, Foster Brothers, Matt indicated that our 2 HOA handymen will ONLY work with Foster Brothers; that they, too, have had highly successful experiences with this company. I got a couple of keys made here the other day for a screen door with an odd sized key. They made a couple of versions for me to try because the key manufacturer doesn't use a standard key. The key worked and they did a great job. I am also in the market for a safe and the man spent quite a bit of time going over needs/pros and cons of different options with me. read more

I called to see if they could copy a key for my car. They said they could so I hung up, planning to head over in a bit. They called me back pretty quickly just to let me know only one person knew how to cut the key at the moment, and he would be going to lunch from 11-12. They didn't need to do that, but it saved me a trip since I would probably showed up during that hour. That is great customer service! read more

The people here are great. They do great work. I almost hate to bring down their average rating by writing "only" a 4-Star review. They are excellent, but lack the extra spark I look for in a 5-Star review. They are friendly, helpful, and, if you are regular, remember you and your account when you walk in. Hubby came here to get a copy of our car key made and to buy a new lock. The gentleman working there was very nice and knowledgeable. The key my husband brought in was an old, worn duplicate. Both he and the man working there were unsure if the copy would even work. It only took the man a few minutes to make the duplicate key and asked my husband to try it right away. It worked perfectly on the first try! The whole transaction took under 10 minutes. This will be our "go to" place from now on when we need any keys made.
