I should have asked for his name. I drive by a Home Depot twice a day. I think the FoodMaxx by my place has a key duplication contraption but I Yelped the nearest place and decided to come here due to the great reviews. If you drive fast you can easily miss this spot. Though small but there is a parking lot. I didn't see it so I parked on the street. Walked in and felt instantly welcomed. I told the gentleman what I wanted, 2 of the house keys and 2 of the gate keys. I live in a gated community - I figured it was time that I make Tess a copy and Ronnie a copy. Though in a few months I might move to The Lex but nothing has been solidified so why not make everyone feel like home in the interim? He has custom keys and I spotted a Cowboys key but I didn't want to be extra. The process took less than 2 minutes. I saw key rings and put 2 on the counter. I paid $8 for 4 keys. He didn't charge me for the key rings... As we were leaving I made sure Gavin put back whatever it was that he was fiddling w/. A pen rolled off of the counter. Before I had a chance to ask Gavin to pick it up, he did so and placed it back on the counter. The gentleman walked out and gave Gavin a pack of peanut M&M's. I was like.. "that's so awesome and thoughtful". Gavin jumped for joy and had a little during the car ride home. You can find businesses anywhere but support your local businesses. I came here a couple months ago after visiting 5-6 different locksmiths and hardware stores trying to get a copy of my apartment key. I called all of them previously and they told me to just come in but when I got there, they told me that they didn't have a blank for my specific key. It was getting pretty frustrating. I lost the key to my portable safe and when I took it in, I was told they could open it, make a key, and it would only cost ten dollars! So thankful that I found this business!! Need to rekey a lock? Forget calling a locksmith who only provides mobile services to charge you a flat just to make the trip out there, in addition to the service charge. Nearly all locksmiths we called only made house calls, making the total charges $100+. I called for pricing and it was a fraction of the cost for this service. Need key duplicates? Forget going to Home Depot to make key copies where you need to hunt down a staffer to make one key at a time. The cost is roughly the same, minus the inconvenience you would find at Home Depot. San Jose Safe & Lock was perfect. I drove to their location and had my single cylinder lock re-keyed along with three key duplicates that were made simultaneously. Everything was incredibly fast. My total for everything? Less than $20. In and out in 5 minutes. They also have allocated parking when you turn in the lot which is great since San Carlos is quite busy. I called with a request for a strange Dutch bike lock key copy. The original key was broken in half. He told me to drop by to see if he had a blank key that would correspond. Came there and there was a key that looked like it would fit, but because the lock is attached to the bike, we couldn't be sure. He gave me the key (no deposit or anything) to check and come back to return the key or have the key made. Offered the an easy job of doing a safe lock upgrade and they really were pushing me to buy a lock online and do the install myself. Guess they don't like business or something? Heard about this place from a friend, and what a amazing shop. Unlike Orchard Supply where it takes 15 minutes plus to get the guy to make keys to arrive and help you. Then it takes them another 10 minutes to actually work the machine. At this place the guy did 2 keys in a matter of seconds, he was so fast that he was done before I could pull my wallet out to pay him. Plus his prices are fair and affortable. These guys are awesome. Dan really saved the day. I found myself in a real jam when the close of escrow on a property was held up by a rekey clause tucked deep in the purchase contract. I needed to get the door rekeyed and an confirmation invoice sent into escrow within hours. So, I called around listings for locksmiths on Yelp and Dan said he could be there in 30 minutes. He arrived a few minutes early for our appointment, a big plus, and got to working on the lock right away. About 20 minutes later, he'd replaced the cylinder and had the lock put back together. The lock worked much better than before, and the bill was more than fair for such quick service, less than $100! Heck, I was prepared to bill escrow for $200.
