We were on a bus trip so 52 of us. There were a few other buses there as well so place was packed. Live music was a nice touch and we got to watch the pit master steaming all the lobsters, corn, steamers and potatoes. That was really awesome to see They run this place like a well oiled machine. Service was prompt and efficient. Staff were super friendly and helpful. And the food was amazing. Started with warm rolls and butter, then thick and delicious clam chowder although it was a little hard to find the clams. Then the lobster clambake; good size soft shelled lobster, steamers, mussels, corn on the cob, potatoes and onion. Finished the meal with their homemade blueberry crumb cake. Roxanne, Michelle, and their crew are an absolute dream to work with. They were helpful and responsive in every step of the process, from selecting menu items to accomodating dietary restrictions to their impeccable and professional presentation. Their culinary creations are delicious and their menu options are expansive. With Foster's, we were able to stay comfortably within our budget without having to restrict our choices. We selected family-style presentation for our reception and the portions were more than generous. Our guests have not stopped raving about the food since the wedding. 4 of us came here for my wife's birthday. First I have to say that the staff was amazing and George made a special effort for my wife's birthday. The place itself is amazing. Both indoor and outdoor seating and they can accommodate large groups. They did have a tour bus there while we were there. The food was amazing. The clam chowder was excellent, very fresh and the clams were tender. The steamer clams and mussels were great. My wife doesn't care for clams so more for me!! The lobster was the freshest and best tasting lobster I ever had. Had a whole lobster the night before in Portsmouth, NH. No comparison. The food was great and the customer service is perfect during COVID. They not only sanitize thoroughly but take the importance of social distancing seriously. Tables are well spaced out and there is tons of room throughout to ensure no one is too close even when eating. The lobster roll is yummy and I highly suggest the corn bread and the coleslaw is also delicious. This restaurant is very child friendly which is a plus for families with young kids. Foster's catered a family dinner at a house we rented in Nubble. They served smoked chicken with a delicious homeade bbq sauce (exquisite). They also delivered a tasty arugula and watermelon salad. There was homeade mac and cheese that was perfect for people who don't necessarily care for complicated food (I ate a lot of it) and then there were the steamers that were insanely perfect. Just tasty and hot and fresh. Finally, let's talk about the clam chowder. To me, the best clam chowder I've ever had in my entire life and clam chowder is my favorite soup. Everyone agreed the clam chowder was the best they've ever had. We think that when we do this again in 2 years, we might just do all clam chowder :) That being said, the chicken was probably some of the best smoked pulled chicken I've ever had. Dennis and I attended a birthday party for our friend Priscilla's 80th Birthday. Foster's Clambake was hired to cater the meal for about 50 friends and family members. We had a wonderful meal of clam chowder, mussels and steamers, lobster with drawn butter, corn on the cob, boiled red potatoes and onions, rolls, and blueberry cake. I spent the week in York Harbor with my family (of 20!) and we had two dinners catered by Fosters. They were both fantastic. One night we ordered barbecue and assorted salads and everything was outstanding...ribs, brisket and barbecue chicken. The barbecue sauce is definitely homemade and classic. Then we ordered the clam bake for 20 people, steamers, chowder, lobster...everything was expertly packaged and served piping hot. This is a meal I will never forget. But if they were only doing large functions before covid19 and now they are doing restaurant style service due to no more large events because of covid19. And every year for the past five years the food has been excellent, the atmosphere is amazing, the staff are friendly and fun and I always have a great time. So....who had the BEST lobster roll in the world today? Oh yeah, that's right--me!! My son and I decided to try and find a place on our way back to upstate New York after staying near Portland Maine and we stumbled on Fosters after trying to deal with all the mayhem close to the shore. What to love: cleaning protocols during covid 19. The fact that every staff member was wearing a mask. Outdoor dining tables set up with umbrellas over them to prevent the hot sun from being too intense. And I bet now you're wondering hey but what about the lobster roll? First let me say that I've never considered myself a lobster roll expert. But lately it's been the itch that I'm scratching. We determined that we were going to try and find the most delicious lobster roll on our way out of Maine, and we did find it. After humming down a cold and tasteless lobster roll in the heart of Portland the other night, we stopped at Fosters hoping for more. We perked up as soon as we saw the options--a traditional Mayo based lobster roll OR a brown butter and chive lobster roll. First of all, a rhetorical question: is there such a thing as too much butter? My answer would be most of the time, no. And as regards the browned butter lobster roll at Foster's, it was stupendous! The roll itself was lovely, warm, and toasted perfectly. It had a slight sweetness to it and had an excellent texture--not too dry, not too doughy. But the lobstah--woo hoo! Dripping with the nuttiness of browned butter, spiked with snippets of green chives, and a pile of cooked-just-right lobster meat, including one whole shelled claw sitting on top. I usually try to leave some of my meal behind just so I don't overeat, but this time I ate the whole thing! I will say that I left the homemade potato chips behind. A little too thick, and a little too much oil, but who cares with a lobster roll that officially ended our vacation with a five-star review? There was also a lovely fresh kale and broccoli slaw that came with the meal. it was light and crunchy, a little bit sweet and tangy and just right to go along with the meal and cut the richness. I think we managed to hit the timing of our meal just right because we did not have to wait for a table or for our meal, but once business picks up after the covid-19 crisis eases, watch out! I can't imagine it's normally easy to get a table at this place. But even if you had to wait, it would be worth it! Say it after me: browned butter and chive lobster roll. We were on the way to Acadia and stopped here for a late evening meal. We were lucky enough to be the only ones there so naturally the service was excellent - a young man was so helpful and even offered to break up the lobster for us. The lobster roll was the best we've ever had and I've had hundreds from all over the country and specifically NY which is the undisputed mecca of food. The green & grains bowl was heavenly. Ok so just to start off I was expecting more right off the bat as I had checked out their website prior to making a reservation for their clambake for my party of five. When I called for the reservation the person who I spoke to said that I didn't need to make the reservation until the day before. Well, thinking to myself now that I am on the phone with you let's just do it now. Well, she had other ideas and told me to call back the day before. Why the total blow off about the reservation. Be a good student and take the reservation, OMG.......really. So I have to make 2 calls to make my reservation. This should have been a red flag. But being a nice guy I did as she told me to do and called again the day before. That call went much better then the first and she actually took my reservation. However Fosters doesn't offer to pay ahead for the clambake. So here we are moving to the day of the reservation. I meet my party at the restaurant and enter the building, it was a bit confusing as there was no greeter/hostess at the entrance of the clambake. Many young teenagers running around cleaning and moving tables around. After a minuet or two one of the waitstaff greeted us and told us were our reservation was seated, and explained where the drink stations and bar were located. She came back a few minuets later and asked us to pay for the clambake at the bar, seemed strange to me to pay in advance......another red flag?. we asked about the bill breakdown as we weren't sure about the tip, the waitress had no idea and said she would ask, came back with a price plus a "administrative fee" so I was thinking to myself what in the world is that??? she later came back with a different answer that made more sense. can you say, knowledge is key? not impressed with waitstaff knowledge. Oh and did I mention the entertainment as a one man band singing a mixed bag of nursery rhymes? oh my, as an entertainment professional I was laughing in my seat. But i guess the entertainment wasn't for the general public but for a private party in the rear. They should have moved the speakers in that direction as It was a bit loud torwars our table and it made conversation a bit hard. Next the atmosphere, nice, somewhat clean, but very much a paper plate place, so be prepared. Way too hot, many fans about but really, invest in Air conditioning, its well worth the price and will take the humidity out of the place as it was very noticeable. The drink station, small, no ice when we got there for out drinks, but it was brought out later, but melted very quickly in the small cups they offered. Another suggestion, replace the cups with something bigger and add a ice machine at the drink station. All sodas were at the cash bar, so be prepared for that. Dinner, very typical for a clambake. Lobster a bit small for the price. Corn should have been shucked, as it was grilled and required shucking after the fact, bring your toothpicks....lol asked for additional rolls and got "hard as rock" overcooked rolls with desert 20 minuets late. Note to Fosters, don't serve hard as rock rolls. Desert rocked, very good, could have had more. Waitress overcompensated by visiting our table very often, and even offered additional chowder, thanks for that. Overall, had better for less elsewhere. Will not be returning. read more

As a native land-locked girl planning a semi-destination East Coast themed wedding, I wanted to go all out and make sure our wedding was unforgettable and fun for everyone who made the trip. I won't go in to how many emails, phone calls and visits our venue search included, but I will say that I was SO relieved in SO many ways to finally find Foster's. The staff was fun and receptive from the very start. My husband and I still lived in Minnesota at the time of planning which could have made it difficult to plan but Foster's was accommodating every step of the way. Beth was amazing and thought of EVERYTHING. The day of the wedding went very smooth and I could tell that the staff at Foster's knew what they were doing and took great care in making our guests comfortable and happy. Beth did a wonderful job with the decorations, too, and showed her creativity and ingenuity. Now for the most important part: The food. From the first hors d'oeuvre passed my way (a steak skewer) to the last red potato (not to forget the oh-so-sweet corn on the cob and the lobster itself), I was one very happy bride! Fosters feels like an old time clam stand on steroids. Big barn f a place with a straight forward menu. After spending WAY too much time in traffic on a desperate attempt to get to the beach, we wanted some lunch. Lo and behold, there is Fosters. Chowder: quite good....rich and satisfying but ended up nibbling on bits o' grit. Fried clam roll: Fresh, succulent and delicious. Unfortunately, as opposed to some establishments of this ilk, I thought they were pretty skimpy on the clams. My partner declared Foster's cole slaw to be among the best he had ever had. This from a man having grown up eating loads of cabbage. I also liked their chunky tartar sauce...heavy on the pickles. So, I've knocked a star off for the mere scattering of oysters...still good food and worth of a downeast nosh. read more

We were here for a wedding rehearsal dinner and it was AMAZING. They start out with Clam chowder which was unbelievable. Next is some steamers, the mussels were good, but many of the clams were not opened. DO NOT eat the unopened clams. They will make you sick and I know someone who was sick from them. It is not Fosters Fault though :) The main meal was a full lobster, potatoes, corn (husk still on which is the best way) and a baked onion. Overall fantastic especially for the event. We had our rehearsal dinner at Foster's in September 2015 and it was a big let down. When we arrived there weren't any employees helping organize guests and I had to hunt someone down to ask where to sit. Our table was near the bar and one of the other groups just hung around at the bar drinking all night, eventually getting very drunk and loud and literally screaming at each other. At that point there was hardly anyone left that worked at the restaurant and certainly nobody to tell them to quiet down. The food was good but inconsistent. Some people had huge lobsters, I ended up with a fairly small portion. Although we wanted our guests to have a casual and area-appropriate meal Foster's was a little too extreme. Other venues in the area may have been a better fit. read more

This was part of our tour package to Ogunquit. When we arrived we did not know what to expect. Place is impressive and that's where it ended. We were first served a clam chowder soup in a paper bowl, followed by the lobster dinner that was nothing to write home about. Not much meat in those claws or tail. This was followed by a blueberry coffee cake served in a paper box for the table. A week ago today we had my daughter Jennifer's wedding here at Foster's, I have no words for how incredible everything was. I can't say enough about our wedding coordinator Garrison. She was so wonderful to us. She went above and beyond to work with us, especially with my daughter as they were planning all of this from out of state. We had to rearrange things a lot due to Covid etc. I also want to give a big thank-you to Beth as we had a last minute complication with my husbands suit, and and she was right there to help. Even our guests commented how friendly the staff was. The staff was very cautious, they were all wearing masks. They set the hall up so nice. The room looked beautiful. The appetizers were delicious, everyone commented on how good they were. The meal was wonderful also. The Blueberry crumb cake was delicious. It is such a great venue, loved the size of the room. We could spread out the tables, plenty of room for dancing, and for the band. I would highly recommend this venue. read more

This clambake isn't cheap, for being in Maine. The entertainment is a little hokey. The private parties are thrown off to the side where it is not easy to see the person entertaining. There are bus loads of seniors that pour in every day on tour. The food is good, although they don't offer seconds on their chowder, taters, corn or mussels anymore. read more

My husband and I used Foster's Clambakes and Catering for the venue and catering of our wedding. From the beginning, Kevin, the owner was supportive and very nice as we began our planning. Our planning was then placed in the hands of Beth, who literally was the most thoughtful, caring, and professional wedding planner we could have ever worked with. Beth took the time to meet with us numerous times to make sure everything was perfect, and her eye for detail was impeccable. Beth thinks of everything that you wouldn't even begin to think of when planning a wedding and she takes on all the stress. She ensures that she has the contact information to all the vendors that you are using and she is a true visionary. We ended up using the back pond at Foster's for the setting of our wedding and we got so many compliments on the backdrop, the food, and the service. My husband and I even have gone to a couple of clambakes after our wedding and you always leave stuffed, and the service is definitely something that Foster's relies on.
