Caravan Tour Fall Foliage group on October 29, 2016.
    Tommy E.

I came in 4 times this Fall with our foliage bus tour group and each time our group enjoyed the experience. From the DJing of Layton, to the tremendous service by their attentive staff, this Maine experience was a real treat for our tour guests. Nothing says Maine more than a lobster dinner! We hope to return next year for another season of great meals and entertainment! Special thanks to the crew last night for our final group of the season: Layton, Lisa, Jenna, Max, Hayden, Sam and Katie!

A close up of the delectable Browned Butter n' Chive Lobster Roll--,yumadelic!

So....who had the BEST lobster roll in the world today? Oh yeah, that's right--me!! My son and I decided to try and find a place on our way back to upstate New York after staying near Portland Maine and we stumbled on Fosters after trying to deal with all the mayhem close to the shore. What to love: cleaning protocols during covid 19. The fact that every staff member was wearing a mask. Outdoor dining tables set up with umbrellas over them to prevent the hot sun from being too intense. And I bet now you're wondering hey but what about the lobster roll? First let me say that I've never considered myself a lobster roll expert. But lately it's been the itch that I'm scratching. We determined that we were going to try and find the most delicious lobster roll on our way out of Maine, and we did find it. After humming down a cold and tasteless lobster roll in the heart of Portland the other night, we stopped at Fosters hoping for more. We perked up as soon as we saw the options--a traditional Mayo based lobster roll OR a brown butter and chive lobster roll. First of all, a rhetorical question: is there such a thing as too much butter? My answer would be most of the time, no. And as regards the browned butter lobster roll at Foster's, it was stupendous! The roll itself was lovely, warm, and toasted perfectly. It had a slight sweetness to it and had an excellent texture--not too dry, not too doughy. But the lobstah--woo hoo! Dripping with the nuttiness of browned butter, spiked with snippets of green chives, and a pile of cooked-just-right lobster meat, including one whole shelled claw sitting on top. I usually try to leave some of my meal behind just so I don't overeat, but this time I ate the whole thing! I will say that I left the homemade potato chips behind. A little too thick, and a little too much oil, but who cares with a lobster roll that officially ended our vacation with a five-star review? There was also a lovely fresh kale and broccoli slaw that came with the meal. it was light and crunchy, a little bit sweet and tangy and just right to go along with the meal and cut the richness. I think we managed to hit the timing of our meal just right because we did not have to wait for a table or for our meal, but once business picks up after the covid-19 crisis eases, watch out! I can't imagine it's normally easy to get a table at this place. But even if you had to wait, it would be worth it! Say it after me: browned butter and chive lobster roll. Doesn't get any better than that.

Best lobster roll & greens and grains bowl

We were on the way to Acadia and stopped here for a late evening meal. We were lucky enough to be the only ones there so naturally the service was excellent - a young man was so helpful and even offered to break up the lobster for us. The lobster roll was the best we've ever had and I've had hundreds from all over the country and specifically NY which is the undisputed mecca of food. The green & grains bowl was heavenly. This place was so good we came back on the way home as well. Highly recommend it.

Great venue, good food. Long upholding the important tradition of a Maine Lobetser/Clambake.

Victoria is amazing to work with, and you can tell she loves her job and will do anything to make sure her couples' special day is perfect. Mezzanine has an expansive menu of handcrafted delectable options. We wanted a taco bar for dinner from day one, and Mezzanine offered an elevated taco bar that was wedding appropriate, and allowed us to make customizations along the way. Booking almost 2 years in advance, we also knew their traditional menu options were perfect if we changed our minds for a plated dinner. Their pricing is also very fair and allowed us to stay within our budget while also having an impressive spread. They are flexible and easy to work with and when COVID downsized our venue and list to the backyard, they didn't miss a beat. On the day of, the appetizers and taco bar were all delicious and the guests all raved about the food! The bartender service was great and kept drinks going all night. Their staff was friendly and service was top notch - they brought our wedding food dreams to life! I highly recommend Mezzanine to anyone who is looking for catering (and if I ever have an event in the future, I'm calling them). Great Circle did not disappoint and treated us to simply amazing food and hospitality. The staff was extremely professional and almost invisible(in a good way) during the reception on September 1st at the Portsmouth Elks Club. All of our friends and family from all over the country couldn't stop raving about the food, and their new Tap Truck was a hit serving as both a source of ice cold draft beer and a conversation piece. As expected, the raw bar was top notch, and the tenderloin popovers, cheddar bites, bacon wrapped scallops, and deviled eggs were so tasty I barely had room left for the main course because I couldn't stop taking more! Our entree selections were similarly satisfying with a delicious chicken dish, glazed rainbow baby carrots, and their clam chowder being notable standouts. The sirloin carving station was a real hit, particularly with their fig and wilted arugula accomplishments, and Chef Ned's bright and engaging personality made this event really stand out with a friendly greeting and engaging conversation for all, both young and old. The whole team was exceedingly friendly and engaged, not cool and aloof like some service staff can be. I'd particularly like to give a shout-out to Jen who not only guided us through all of the planning steps leading up to the big day, but also was kind enough to go to the store after her set up was done and pick up more ice for us for our self-furnished beverage station. Many caterers would have treated this as a "not my problem"situation since we weren't paying them to provide beverages, but she went above and beyond to help ensure our event was a success. I have zero reservations about calling Jen at Great Circle for help planning our next big event and neither should you!

I hired Mellissa to cater my wedding I would not recommend her services to anyone…read more From the beginning, communication was a major issue. Both my wedding coordinator and I reached out to her multiple times with important questions and updates, only to be met with silence. This lack of communication created unnecessary stress, especially as we approached the big day. In fact, just one week before the wedding, we still didn't have a finalized menu because Mellissa was so unresponsive. On the day of the wedding, things went from bad to worse. When Melissa arrived and was setting up for the wedding, my dad overheard her asking her staff who had catering experience. Are you kidding me?? She later admitted to bringing in entirely new staff who were clearly inexperienced, untrained and unprofessional. To make matters worse, they ran out of prepared food, and many of our guests were left waiting while additional food was made. Mellissa was also seen mixing up salad bowls with her bare hands making us question what other unsanitary things happened that day. The quality of the food that was served was very disappointing. The chicken entree we had loved during our tasting was completely different from what was served. It was incredibly bland and lacked the flavor we had expected. One of the salad bowls was served with no dressing and Mellissa responded very short and rude to one of our guests when they asked her for dressing. For dessert, we had ordered cupcakes and mini cheesecakes, but there were so few that many guests didn't even realize dessert was being served. To top it off, the cupcakes were cut in half and placed in plastic cups, giving the impression of a last-minute potluck rather than a professionally catered wedding. At the end of the night, Mellissa left all of our remaining alcohol, purchased by us, out for anyone to grab. This was a major liability and created significant stress for the venue owners, who were left scrambling to secure everything. It was incredibly irresponsible and showed a complete lack of professionalism and regard for the safety and legal concerns involved. After the event, I reached out to Mellissa to share my concerns and requested a partial refund. She initially agreed that a refund was fair, but has since completely stopped responding and has not followed through. Weddings are meant to be joyful and memorable, but Mellissa's lack of professionalism and poor service created unnecessary stress and frustration. I would strongly advise others to look elsewhere when planning such an important day.

A $1500/day minimum sales was required. Fair enough. As the event grew closer, we asked if Maeve's could provide breakfast foods for one day. She agreed and we were happy. The food and drinks were good and people were happy. No mention was made about an additional $1500 minimum for the food IN ADDITION to the $1500 minimum for the drinks. Day one sales were $290 - so I'd owe her $1210. Day two sales were over $1600 including breakfast foods and mocktails. She charged me double the $1500 minimum and today I've received an invoice for over $2700! It includes those added minimums PLUS meals tax for food that was never sold! #2. A family member hired Maeve's to cater their wedding. The crew showed up totally unprepared. "Maeve" had pulled the sweet little food trailer that had been promised, to another gig and sent her crew with a folding table, no shelter whatsoever, tiny electric convection oven, not nearly enough food, nothing to keep it warm - it was an October outdoor wedding! To add insult to injury, the extension cords they had were inadequate for the load and shorted out. Note: this was supposed to be a totally self-contained unit with its own power supply. She totally threw her crew under the bus - they were lovely and did their best. But finally the bride's father fired them, and a desperate call to Nick's Restaurant had hot, delicious food to the wedding in 45 minutes. Oh, and she condescendingly call me sweetheart and darling! I'm a 71 year old successful business woman. She has no idea......
