I'm sad to say I never heard of Fosters Freeze until this summer, even though they've been around for quite some time. This location is in a parking lot with a walk-up window outside and seating both indoors and out. I've only had the ice cream and they give you a generous size even for small, and I love a twist cone with sprinkles (although, I've found out some people call twist cones swirls!). I think I'll mostly come here for ice cream, but they do have some good daily food specials so may take advantage of that some day. read more

Oh my god, it was so good I can't remember the last time I had a banana split and now I might need to come back weekly. There used to be a place on El Cajon Boulevard called 'Granger's' that served even better burgers but Mr. Granger died and his kids didn't want the business. That was a sad day for San Diego. Lots of the people who leave reviews of FF complain about the quality of the "ice cream". Perhaps they're unaware that Frosties (à la FF and DQ) are made from ice milk, not ice cream. Of course soft serve isn't going to taste like Baskin-Robbins--it's a totally different product. I generally get the Big Boss Burger and eat it by itself with water to wash it down with. French fries are typically too greasy for my taste, as they are invariably boiled in oil. On occasion I will order a sundae instead; they never disappoint. I disagree with the person who said that the staff are fast but unfriendly. My experience is quite the opposite: they are kind of slow but extremely friendly. I'm not writing this to advertise my favorite burger joint; I just want to rectify the bum rap that some other people have given them. In fact, I hope that their business doesn't pick up too much. Some staff members are nicer and more pleasant than others here, but service is decent overall. The wait varies on how busy it is. There was one time it took a while to get my food. Old Fashion Combo was a pretty standard tasting burger and fries. Nothing about it stands out from other burgers, but it gets the job done. Had to go inside for condiments and drink. Banana Split with all the toppings was good, but 3 scoops of vanilla does feel a bit disappointing compared to a neopolitan banana split.
