Love Fosters Freeze! It's our favorite little spot up the street. The ice cream is delicious, and Rachel was awesome! She was super friendly and helped us out with the current promotions. Great local spot with great service -- definitely coming back!

You can never go wrong with twisters. Just keep in mind that the sizes are huge. I love the mud pie (no caffeine). This place has been here forever. We try to visit if we are in the local area. You can either order at the window or on the kiosk. The employees are pretty friendly and offer to help with kiosk if needed.

Came to Fosters Freeze specifically for the banana split and it lived up to all expectations. We customized it with chocolate vanilla swirl soft serve, cherry sauce, hot fudge, nuts, and whipped cream. Loved that there was such a wide selection of toppings!

Came to Foster's Freeze for the first time for a late night sweet treat and the banana split was calling out to me. Oh my god, it was so good I can't remember the last time I had a banana split and now I might need to come back weekly. You can customize your toppings so we chose hot fudge, strawberries, and cherries with chocolate and vanilla ice cream and it was perfect. It's huge so unless you're hungry, I'd advise sharing it. Sat down at one of their outdoor picnic tables to enjoy it and it was the perfect addition to a summer night.

Was in the strip mall for an errand and saw this old school blast from the past and knew I had to stop by. I had a burger and fries and also a hotdog and onion ring combo. I also got a root beer freeze that I remember my high school days. Thanks for the memories.

STICK TO THE COLD TREATS (3.25 stars) Rolled up and this place immediately made me think of a burger place in the 70s (I wasn't even born) or 80s; outdated with an oldskool charm. Came by craving ice cream and was sold to buy more after seeing a plentiful menu. Hungry but not, ordered a kids meal. It was honestly hard to choose what cold treat to get because I wanted to try many of them. KIDS MEAL ($8.99) - couple of choices and went for a hamburger. It came with fries, drink, and a small sundae. Seriously, nothing special. For the price, I should have saved and just buy the ice cream. But I liked how I got a small bit of everything. The burger was basic and very kid friendly and I liked it. The fries reminded me of elementary cafeteria fries. And what I looked forward the most was my small sundae in a cone. Got it vanilla because I felt basic that day. While eating my small kids meal, there was advertisement on the windows of food specials and for the same price of $6.99 you can get a full size meal. So if you are looking for a bang for your buck, keep the window advertisements in mind. Until the next review...

I've been here a couple of times and always enjoy their ice cream, especially the dipped cones. Staff is helpful, and it doesn't take too long for your order to come out. I did notice they added tablets now for ordering which makes things a bit easier to customize, although my order did come out incorrect. Hope to try their food someday, but for now, their soft serve, sundaes and milkshakes are very good. I haven't gone inside but it looks like it's well kept and there's lots of tables. Outside seating is where I've been at, which is helpful.

I have not been here in at least 20 years! Surprised it was still here. They have plenty of parking, indoor and outdoor seating area and one shared bathroom. If it is cool outside, you could order outside at the window and grab a seat to the left in their umbrella covered side patio. If it is hot, you could go inside and order at the counter and enjoy the AC and fan ran indoor seating. Their fountain drink dispenser is also located in the inside. But of course you could order outside and go in and get your order as well. It is all connected. We used to come here for their floats or banana split. They do not hold back on the toppings! Be prepared for overflowing toppings whatever you order.

Stopped by tonite with my younger brother & this is hands down one of the better ice cream shops in San Diego , very excited to try out the food next . Brother gives the Oreo mint twister a 10/10 & agrees that it's one of the best in San Diego

Can $50 feed a family of four?

Yes. Four combo meals (~$9.99 each) can fit the modest budget, if you're craving the Double Classic on down with some change left over for shareable sides. Or, you can go the dessert-only route and get four large twisters for $8.99 each for that…

Great recommendation! Absolutely delicious!!! I felt reallly good after eating it, and I am sensitive to certain breads and cheese. And I got a Shirley temple to go from the bar and they don't use regular grenadine, but some other delicious syrup that is so much more flavorful and not full of red dye 40. The BBQ bacon burger was good, but the bacon wasn't crispy--it was very thick and more like a slice of ham. It was okay, but I would have preferred traditional crispy bacon. The Greek burger was also good, but not quite great. However, the boys' basic cheeseburgers were amazing! We would definitely come back just for a basic burger. The fries were also amazing--definitely a highlight of the meal. They have a great selection of beer and alcohol, and I tried the watermelon drink, which had a spicy kick and was absolutely delicious. Overall, a solid spot with great fries, drinks, and burgers. We'll definitely be back for those basic cheeseburgers!

Although they offer breakfast sandwiches and burritos, I instead had a bowl of tortilla soup, a small spinach pie, and a curry potato potato pie. The tortilla soup came generously filled with tender chicken and had a good flavor. The soup was of the thicker variety. I would recommend they use a thicker corn tortilla chip, so that it would hold up in the soup better and keep its crunchiness. Both pies were savory and tasty. The spinach pie came with a melee of sauteed spinach and onions. They added fete cheese to the pie as well. The curry and potato pie was great. The curry flavor was very good and the potato was soft with small potato morsels that still offered a tender bite. These little pies came with a soft, bready, and mild crust. The gents working at the cafe when I visited were super nice and welcoming. They offer a good amount of inside seating. They serve the Allied Plaza Building and visitors from the surrounding community. They are also a full espresso bar offering espresso based beverages. There's plenty of visitor parking.

Although my last visit wasn't bad, it was just middle of the road and left me wanting more-especially in regards to the Wagyu burger and the bacon. This time around, I decided to switch it up a bit. As we arrived, I ordered my current favorite beer on tap, Coco Ono, from Bay City Brewing. It's a piña coloda IPA that's not too sweet, and has great coconut flavor. Moments later I realized that there was a Taco Tuesday special that was $15 for 2 tacos a draft beer of your choosing. Since the Coco Ono is $9 alone (ouch!), I realized it was a better deal to get the Taco Tuesday special. I asked Karina if I could turn that draft I ordered into the special, and they kindly obliged...nice! The last time I was here, I noticed some wings coming out of the kitchen and they looked awesome. So this time I knew I had to get the wings, $16. I ordered a 9 piece of Buffalo wings, per staff recommendation, and they did not disappoint. We actually got 10 piping hot wings served with stacks of baby carrots, fresh cut celery, and both ranch and blue cheese. I'd love to see them do a homemade ranch because it would better compliment the wings than that Hidden Valley stuff. Wings were a 5/5!!! I forgot to even mention the tacos. That's probably because I forgot about them...lol. While the small TJ tacos had some solid carne with onions and cilantro, they were a bit plain. Served on two tortillas with 2 salsas, and 2 limes, a little bit of guac would have livened them up. I probably wouldn't order them on their own at $3 each, but as part of the $15 deal, it was all good. 4/5 for the deal. Lastlly, we ordered the BBQ chicken pizza, which was a HITT!. I had previously tried a few slices of pepperoni pizza last time, and it was a good snack to have with some brews, but nothing memorable. However this time, the BBQ Chicken pizza was up there with my favorite one in town. It was covered with loads of chicken, which they stated was cooked in-house, cilantro and BBQ sauce. The crust did look like it was a little over baked, but it ended up having a perfect under crust with zero burnt flavor. Only the outer crust was ultimately effected and got a bit crackery. All in all it was a really delicious pie. All the while Karina and Emma were answering my many questions, tapping off our drinks, and providing pretty much anything we asked for. The food presentation was great, the restaurant was immaculate, and the service was friendly, all giving an overall 5 stars. Thanks to Emma, Karina, Paul, and the kitchen staff for making this a delicious evening. I'll definitely be back for the pizza and the wings.

The eggs came scrambled and were a bit dry and the steak didn't have much flavor which was kind of a letdown. We also tried the oatmeal pancakes. They were okay but leaned more dry than fluffy. They didn't come with syrup and no one offered any. I tried asking for some but the server walked away mid conversation which honestly threw me off. The watermelon smoothie tasted pretty much like blended watermelon with sugar and water. It wasn't bad but nothing I'd go out of my way for. I've been to the National City location before and that one is still my favorite by far. This La Mesa spot just didn't hit the same in terms of food or overall experience. One thing that stood out was the sauce situation. When I asked for sauces I was told I could only have one. I'm big on restaurants being stingy with hot sauce. It just feels unnecessary and kind of takes away from the experience. Overall it wasn't a bad visit but it didn't wow me either.
