First time having DQ!!!! I came by after lunch with a hankering for a blizzard. This is a small shop located in a strip mall, and I was the only person inside. There was one person holding down the fort. He was both taking and making orders, and very quick and friendly. I ordered the mini chocolate-covered strawberry blizzard, one of their seasonal flavors. My ice cream came out quickly and I was on my way. I didn't try a bite until I got home and it was a very hot day, so I stuck it in the freezer for a bit to firm up. When I got tired of waiting, I pulled it out and finally got to enjoy my first blizzard! I will say the ice cream quality is nothing to write home about, it tastes like a fast food chain ice cream base. A tad icy and not the milkiest. I think it's supposed to be vanilla but I didn't get much of that. My blizzard was blended with chocolate bits and strawberry topping. The strawberry topping was a tad too syrupy but it was good in the way strawberry jam is good. I loved the crunch that the chocolate bits added. There was plenty of both toppings and I got a bit in every bite. It was not completely uniformly blended, as the bottom was mainly comprised of the ice cream base. It was satisfying in the way that fast food is satisfying, but I consider it a one and done for me. read more

The Dairy Queen/Orange Julius Treat Center at the Mission Valley Mall was one of the smaller setups I have seen for this national dessert chain. When I was traveling earlier this summer, there was a DQ/OJ location that featured a drive-through lane so you didn't even have to leave your vehicle. The suite here was in the middle of a corridor close to some larger anchor restaurants. Ongoing construction work reduced the foot traffic greatly as there was only one small path on each side. One small table and two round high-tops were inside for customers to sit/stand and hang out. The vast menu board was above and behind the service counter as a long arc. Half of the panels were photos of various products while the other half listed the offerings. Two of the "new" Blizzards were shown in one panel. I selected a mini serving of the Pumpkin Pie since we are officially in the autumn season. Real pumpkin pie pieces were blended into soft serve vanilla and topped with whipped cream and a sprinkle of nutmeg. A worker assembled my item and turned it upside down at the end to make sure the contents held firm which they did. For $5.29, the mini size was no more than 12 oz. It was pricey yet decadent and sweet. I enjoyed the treat yet I felt it was just under a four star experience. read more

There can be long lines in the summer, but i specifically came on Cone Day where it was free throughout all Dairy Queen's in the participating ones. This location has an awful management where they kept all the flyers up for the cone, and didn't even manage to remove them so they continue to build a whole line until a customer shouts to everyone in line that they ran out and you have to pay full price for a medium cone. The worker didn't bare to care and said sorry and then went to go remove the flyer for the free cone day that has been promoted for quite the whole day. The people aren't the kinded, no gloves, space is messy and dirty, and they want to rush you out of there. I ended up purchasing the medium cone full price since i was in line. Wouldn't recommend stopping by here if it's a busy day, because the workers just don't care enough. read more

Never had Dairy Queen before, but I know they are known for their blizzards. We didn't order that since it was quite chilly out already. We went with a light and refreshing smoothie. 1 strawberry banana, a classic. It was good although it had this oddly sweet flavor to it that didn't come with the fruits. I wonder if they added simple syrup or some fruit extract? I think it would be better without. 1 very berry smoothie which was also good. It contained three different berries. This was also a tad on the sweet side. Overall, good drinks to quench the hunger and thirst we felt from long day of shopping. They had lots of options for drinks and even some food too. I am so glad that DQ purchased Orange Julius. I just love all of the different Julius flavors they have here, but what I really love is the blizzards today when I came in, they had their Valentine's Day special which was a "triple truffle" it was made with chocolate sausage ice cream to die for. It had a malty effect! I had a really hard time not ordering my favorite, which is the take five bar that they still had. I really hope that Take 5 stays on the menu and not just as a special. The service was really fast and very friendly. The inside of the store is really clean and you can tell the employees take time (and are so so friendly!) to make sure this place looks nice and every customer is happy. When I'm at this mall I make it's point to be sure to make a stop at the Dairy Queen. Oh also, my husband had the watermelon orange Julius and it was absolutely delicious the best of the three orange Julius as we ordered! I love when they flip the blizzard upside down - just goes to show how thick the ice cream is. The flavor was reminiscent of the iconic frosted animal cookie blizzard and not overly sweet. I was able to split the small size with a friend, and it was the perfect portion size. My treat was made before I even paid, SO fast!! This is the only location in San Diego that offers the cupcake! They were nice enough to put one on hold via phone. Upon arrival the worker was highly confused on what we wanted, we did eventually get what we wanted. This location is super loud inside and very hard to understand people. They were decently busy, but appeared very quick getting people what they wanted. I highly suggest the DQ Cupcake if you want an ice cream cake but don't need a giant one. We often have problems at this location. It's usually getting our order wrong, which isn't a big deal, we just tell them and they correct it. But recently, we had a coupon sent to us for $5 off $10 order or more. It stated we had "two days" to redeem it, which we did, as there was a movie screening nearby so we went. Yet when you pressed "redeem" on the screen, it went to another page showing various food items, but the cashier or manager, didn't know how to redeem it, so they didn't. Seemed like a rather bizarre solution to THEIR problem. Why not just comp us one of the ice creams we bought, and worry about that with your corporate office. So, we didn't get to use the coupon, and spent full price. The manager said "they show a picture of a hamburger here, and we don't sell hamburgers." Uh, who cares? We didn't order a dang hamburger!!! So...what's the point of them sending out coupons or rewards, that you can't use? And, I just spent 15 minutes writing this on their website, which is a pain in the butt, because it kept saying I didn't have the variety of things filled out properly and all that. It was a little hard finding this DQ with Navi because it's located near other stores. However, it was a pleasant surprise to have a Blizzard with the Heath bar bits all the way to the bottom of the blizzard. I just come for the Blizzards. DQ has been around forever! The Blizzards are always the best. I got the Oreo Cookie one which now comes with the option of adding a "core" of fudge. So we were craving ice cream and we looked up a Dairy Queen... This took us to the mall but here on the yelp app it's stating that they have a drive-through which they obviously didn't and it was a little inconvenience to have to go into the mall to make our purchase just because we had a little one and we had just left the beach... Anyways upon arriving when we were ordering we clicked on the menu and it said that they had six dollar meal deals so we wanted one of each and they told us that they didn't sell that in that location... Which was a little annoying because they offer it at that location through their website... I NEVER go to DQ because I think it's garbage, but today my daughter wanted an ice cream cone, so we decided to stop there since we were at the mall. BiG mistake! My daughter never tried a dipped cone before (like I said before i NEVER go to DQ), so she wanted to try one. I bought it for her, and we moved to the side and waited for the cone. We were waiting for a few minutes, when another family came in and orered. As soon as they turned around, the cashier gave them ​a dipped cone (what we ordered yet head been already waiting several minutes for). The cashier looked up at me and knew she screwed up by giving my order to the other family. She immediately turned her back away from the register and mumbled something to the idiot (I'll get into that in a minute) making the ice creams for everyone. I thought they'd have enough sense to make my cone real quick and get us on our way. That didn't happen. The ice cream idiot made two more blizzards for the family that came after us and and a third blizzard to another guy that came in after that family. So now he's made three blizzards and gave my cone away to someone else all while the cashier and him knew they screwed up, yet continued to make orders for people that came after us! After about 10 minutes, another family walked in and the ice cream idiot immediately goes up to them and asked them what they ordered before they could even order anything. They told him they literally walked in. They were standing at the door and had zero chance of ordering anything yet. That pissed me off, so I told him why he didn't make my order. He got into defense mode and claimed the other customers (about 7 other customers at that point) had gotten there before me. I told him we had been waiting about 15 minutes at that point we were there before anyone there. Even one family that was there after us confirmed that they were all there after us. He ran up to the order screen and tried arguing with me that they had all been there before me. I said, "Really? Do you even know what I ordered?!" He knew he was full of it, so he got all mad and said he'd just give me a refund. I said "Perfect!" He still didn't even know what I ordered and just assumed it was the last order, which was about $12. I paid $3.49 for a cone on my card, yet the idiot ended up giving me $12 cash. I guess it was a small win for me. He owed me for wasting my time anyway, for trying to argue with me, and for giving me a refund even though he had no clue what I even ordered. When he handed me the $12 cash, he had the nerve to tell me to never come back. I told him, "I NEVER come here anyway. Do you really think I'd come back after this?!" There's a reason it's been about 30 years since I stepped foot into a DQ and today I was reminded why!! read more

2 things! First was in July I ordered a cake over the phone. I repeated the order multiple times. When I went to pick it up it was the wrong size, and wrong kind! I went yesterday afternoon. They use an iPad to take orders and credit cards are accepted . I love DQ but what I really want is the DQ Grill & Chill Location where they have the full menu! This location is like a small stand and has the classic ice cream treats and ice cream cakes. I ordered a "mini" cheesecake blizzard and it was pretty bomb, lots of strawberry sauce in the center and a few big cheesecakes chunks. The mini size isn't much cheaper than a small but it is a big enough portion for me and doesn't let me get too sick (I am totally lactose intolerant lol). I don't remember the blizzards being between $4 - $5 bucks but I guess everything has gone up everywhere you go. The cakes looked great and are only $30 - $40 which is way cheaper than Cold Stone. I am going to get one to bring to my friends house for Thanksgiving. I hope its bomb! Overall, this is a really convenient location to get a cold treat and there are some tables around the mall so you can sit and enjoy. Its on the back end of the Mission Valley Mall near Nordstrom Rack and Starbucks. Parking was plentiful on a late Saturday afternoon. I'm a simple man. I like simple ice cream. Dairy Queen has been around for years and the reason why is because of comfort. Sure, you can go to Cold Stone and pay an insane amount of money for someone to swirl your ice cream around with some paddles and put some Butterfingers in it but why? You can go to the DQ, tell the young lady working there you'd like a Oreo Blizzard, give her three or four dollars and she'll make it for you with no fuss. Even hold it upside down to show you how thick it is. Now, I know I'm putting a lot of effort into writing a review about Dairy Queen. Hell....I ain't even that crazy about ice cream.
