Worst experience I may have ever had. We were a group of 4. Waited over an hour for a table and they skipped us. After showing 0 tables in front of us then back to 4 we asked and they realized the mistake. Then after ordering our food the server comes over to the table beside us to let them know they are out of mashed potatoes and to see what else they would like. She doesn't ask our table at all. Another table of 5 comes in beside us after we had already ordered. They received their meals before us. When our meal finally comes it's not what we ordered. They bring rice with one meal and the other they didn't even attempt to do 2 sides as it was supposed to be. So they wanted $28 for a pork chop and scoop of rice. I asked the server about it and she grabbed up the plate and said she would scoop off the rice. She was rolling her eyes saying ok ok ok not helpful and actually mad because we didn't want what we didn't order. She didn't care to help or that it was wrong. We couldn't get a drink that we were trying to order or just straws. Worst service (coming from a fellow server and restaurant owner) and mediocre food. I would give 0 stars if possible. read more

Service was good but Food was just okay. We ordered fish and chips and a fish sandwich. Fish was Tasty but dry. Ordered tomato soup but tasted more like tortilla soup. The cheese toast was more like a small grilled cheese (great for those that Like a grilled cheese sandwich) son had pork chops that he enjoyed and daughter ordered a pasta primavera that had a price tag in her food (my guess from the plate) they quickly made her a new one and overall she said it was good. Appalled at the quantity and quality of food served for the price we paid. We were told that the fresh catch ($42) would be good for 2 people, and what we received was 3 tiny pieces of overcooked fish with a dollop of potatoes and a few pieces of broccoli. To add fuel to fire, the grilled fish dish ($24) was exactly the same, except it had 2 pieces of the same overcooked fish. This has been the worst dining experience we've had in Hawaii. I would give this place zero stars if I could. Absolute waste of time and money. Needless to say, we will never step foot in here and I would recommend this to anyone planning to come here. Crab cakes were tasty. Although the food we took home was not the case. The spicy chicken wings had no taste & were like chewing rubber bands. The ribs were over cooked & very, vry dry. The side of potato salad (maybe 2 tablespoons in the container) was also a let down. The potatoes were crunchy as in under cooked & the dressing was an over load of dill with watery sour cream-absolutely horrible. The plus side was the 'catch of the day'. Super disappointing experience. Came in tonight (a Monday night) at about 6:15 - one kiddo with two parents. Didn't seem super busy and we were sat right away. Took about 5 minutes to be greeted, which isn't shocking based on current staffing issues I've heard are consistent across the industry. My issue is that it took another 10 minutes for our order to be taken, then probably 15 minutes for my cocktail/milk for our kiddo (missing my husbands beer) and then 25-30 minutes for our food to be brought. The poor waitress was clearly over stretched - she was kind and apologetic. But no manager ever checked on us, no acknowledgement of the fact it was almost an hour between being seated and our food arriving (no apps, nothing special order, no reason it should have taken so long). Food was fine, nothing extraordinary or worth the wait. Cocktail was overly sweet. Skip this one. read more

This place is everything that is wrong with the food scene on Big Island. Overpriced food that under delivers spectacularly. We had the goat cheese bruschetta (decent) and my wife had a Thai salad, and I had the stuffed chicken. The salad was pitiful (we are going to island gourmet now so my wife doesn't starve this evening), and the stuffed chicken. We are half time residents in Mauna Lani. For many years, this restaurant has been our "go to" for a reasonably priced, well prepared and varied menu. At our last visit the food was great, but a new menu was coming. As we now look at the new menu, almost all of our favorite dishes are no longer there. In fact, other than ribs, pasta and tacos, available everywhere, we no longer find much, if anything, to eat. Hopefully the management will hear this from others and bring back some variety and not just easy to prepare lower cost food. read more

My husband and I came to this restaurant with high hopes, as this is in the Kings Shoppes. It was honestly the worst experience we've had in Hawaii and this is my 7th trip. It took us thirty minutes (once seated) to get a server to our table. Once we had our order taken, we were wondering why everyone around us was complaining about food. We received our appetizers and they were bent to a crisp. Our meal came a while later, the worst food ever for almost $150.00. My chicken was so dry I could not swallow it. Seated outside, the weather and ambiance were great. There was a live acoustic guitar singer across the way at A-Bays. Service was spotty but they were really crowded and seemed understaffed. I ordered the caesar salad with shrimp. There were a lot of options on the menu but a salad sounded good. Wife had the tomato bisque which comes with a small grilled cheese sandwich. It was my birthday dinner but we couldn't get a reservation and they accommodated us early and we weren't rushed. I recommend this spot. For dessert we decided to take a walk down to the ice cream shop, so I can't comment on that. Bruschetta was enhanced with caramelized onions. Crab cakes were a solid choice but not spectacular. I really don't like not recommending a restaurant however, my grandson had ribs, and they were overcooked as was the chicken yet somehow cold and slathered with tons of barbecue sauce, my husband had gumbo that was terrible. It looked awful had very little meat in it, and tasted not good, he also had a Caesar salad now I'm not saying it made him sick but within two hours he was having stomach pains and spent all day Monday in the restroom and sick. I'm just saying that well the manager took the ribs and chicken and gumbo off her bill. We ended up paying $40 For nothing the fish and chips that I had were only OK the french fries again cold and the fish if you like cornmeal was delicious but unfortunately I'm not a big cornmeal fan. That's sad I would not recommend it except for fish and chips however, after having went to. Lava lava. I would definitely go there and skip Fosters, but you do what you wanna do I do feel under the circumstances the manager should have pretty much comped the whole dinner. Walked up at about 8pm on a Tuesday night (Aug 13th), there were only a couple tables occupied, not anywhere close to being busy. Was told by the hostess that food would be an 1.5 hour wait. Half of our group left and went to a nearby restaurant who gladly accepted us. The other half stayed and sat at the bar, then was also told by the bartender that sitting at the bar wouldn't get them their food any sooner. However when they ordered their food, they got it within a half an hour. It was decent. They did last call and kicked everyone out at 9:30, according to their hours, they close at 10. Seems like they wanted to close early and used the 1.5 hour wait as en excuse to deter our patronage. Managers/Owners, check your staff and their attitudes! We made this reservation same-day through Google and the host stand did not have the table reservation once we arrived and belittled my friend and I at the host stand about the situation, rather then correct it. Went here for lunch today- got the garden salad which is supposed to have tomatoes, cucumbers, garlic croutons and a macadamia nut crust ball of goat cheese with your choice of dressing- I asked to add chicken to the salad- grilled chicken, the salad came out with grilled shrimp so I asked if they could change it- when the salad came back from the kitchen it had chicken and lettuce/ so it appears someone dumped the top of the salad off which previously had all the toppings to add the chicken- so one tomato, some croutons, chicken which was over cooked and lettuce for 16 dollars, we also had another salad which was made correctly for 18 dollars and an ice tea and sparkling water - the server was accommodating and the hostess was great even when the service was slow due to understaffing- I don't mind that but I do mind a sloppy kitchen- if you are going to take time, make it right! read more

We sat out on the patio next to the lake which is a nice enough ambience but I wish they would better clean the fiberglass panels of the mess left by the birds. We wanted something light today so we shared the meat flatbread and the blackened shrimp Cobb salad. Our meals were okay and nothing special. The salad seemed to be missing something... Now that I think about it I don't recall tasting any Gorgonzola crumble and I had to cut everything up. Usually when I order a Cobb it is filled with lots of yummy ingredients. I did not get this feeling with their Cobb as it seemed very sparse. I would have also liked it better if everything was chopped to smaller bites. I thought this restaurant was okay but nothing special! Sort of what I expected in a touristy area and a restaurant in a mall. Definitely was not the best dinner we had while in Hawaii. Showed up..and was told that outside on the patio would be cool with a nice breeze. Got seated and were submerged in a stagnant hot air. Asked to be reseated inside which we quickly were. For this I'm am appreciative of the staff for accommodating us so easily. The food was okay, nothing amazing. We ordered the ribs, fish tacos, and the burger. They were all good and met expectations. The best things on the plates however were the Cajun fries. For desert we had the monkey bread and it was delicious. Drinks were also pretty good. Ordered whiskey and two cocktails off their menu. All good! One thing that was odd to me was we were seated and no one offered water or brought us water. Had to ask the waitress 20min in to being seated if we can get some ice water. Seems odd with how hot it was outside. If you are looking for a decent easy restaurant while in the resort area, this may be for you. But not one I would highly recommend to anyone. read more

Blackened Shrimp Cobb Salad Fried Pork Chops Stuffed Mushrooms Irish Cheddar Burger Atmosphere and server was very friendly. Food was served promptly and not on top of one another we ordered an appetizer (the stuffed mushrooms), and they came and we were almost through when the main course came, perfect. The Cobb salad was tasty not too spicy and with the ginger vinaigrette dressing it made it just right. Wife got the pork chops and they were crunchy which was a first (but tasty).
