We made this reservation same-day through Google and the host stand did not have the table reservation once we arrived and belittled my friend and I at the host stand about the situation, rather then correct it. My friend talked the host stand into giving us a table. Good beer selection and cocktail menu, but pizza was incredibly dry and over-done and possibly re-heated. The side salad was also very plain and offered nothing more then a small iceberg salad from a fast food joint. I would pass. read more

This place is everything that is wrong with the food scene on Big Island. Overpriced food that under delivers spectacularly. We had the goat cheese bruschetta (decent) and my wife had a Thai salad, and I had the stuffed chicken. The salad was pitiful (we are going to island gourmet now so my wife doesn't starve this evening), and the stuffed chicken. Went to Foster's Kitchen on our way to our resort. The menu is a little pricey for it not being a fancy restaurant. The calamari was fantastic for my appetizer, but the fish and chips weren't the best, I'd give them a 6/10. But overall, it was a solid spot. read more

We are half time residents in Mauna Lani. For many years, this restaurant has been our "go to" for a reasonably priced, well prepared and varied menu. At our last visit the food was great, but a new menu was coming. As we now look at the new menu, almost all of our favorite dishes are no longer there. In fact, other than ribs, pasta and tacos, available everywhere, we no longer find much, if anything, to eat. Hopefully the management will hear this from others and bring back some variety and not just easy to prepare lower cost food. read more

Foster's Kitchen is conveniently located within the King's Shops in the Waikoloa resort area and one of only a very small number of options for dining without driving or eating at one of the resort hotels in the area. I've been here in the past and it seems each time, I have left a little disappointed with wait times and service. Although the food is good and portions are reasonable, the menu prices are too high for what you get - unfortunately, I would almost suggest driving out of the area or just grabbing something from the grocery store across the street before recommending this spot. read more

Came here for the first time because of their location. We spent most of the day driving around the island and wanted to dine close to our resort in Waikoloa. We sat out on the patio next to the lake which is a nice enough ambience but I wish they would better clean the fiberglass panels of the mess left by the birds. We wanted something light today so we shared the meat flatbread and the blackened shrimp Cobb salad. Our meals were okay and nothing special. The salad seemed to be missing something... Now that I think about it I don't recall tasting any Gorgonzola crumble and I had to cut everything up. Usually when I order a Cobb it is filled with lots of yummy ingredients. I did not get this feeling with their Cobb as it seemed very sparse. I would have also liked it better if everything was chopped to smaller bites. I thought this restaurant was okay but nothing special! Sort of what I expected in a touristy area and a restaurant in a mall. Definitely was not the best dinner we had while in Hawaii. Showed up..and was told that outside on the patio would be cool with a nice breeze. Got seated and were submerged in a stagnant hot air. Asked to be reseated inside which we quickly were. For this I'm am appreciative of the staff for accommodating us so easily. The food was okay, nothing amazing. We ordered the ribs, fish tacos, and the burger. They were all good and met expectations. The best things on the plates however were the Cajun fries. For desert we had the monkey bread and it was delicious. Drinks were also pretty good. Ordered whiskey and two cocktails off their menu. All good! One thing that was odd to me was we were seated and no one offered water or brought us water. Had to ask the waitress 20min in to being seated if we can get some ice water. Seems odd with how hot it was outside. If you are looking for a decent easy restaurant while in the resort area, this may be for you. But not one I would highly recommend to anyone. read more

Blackened Shrimp Cobb Salad Fried Pork Chops Stuffed Mushrooms Irish Cheddar Burger Atmosphere and server was very friendly. Food was served promptly and not on top of one another we ordered an appetizer (the stuffed mushrooms), and they came and we were almost through when the main course came, perfect. The Cobb salad was tasty not too spicy and with the ginger vinaigrette dressing it made it just right. Wife got the pork chops and they were crunchy which was a first (but tasty). As with most locations in downtown, this place has a great view overlooking the water from an elevation. The Lychee martini was delicious though we couldn't taste any alcohol. We had the veggie pizza and the barbecue chicken sandwich. Both tasted perfect and we couldn't help but overeat. Came up to the lady at the door, who fiddled with her tablet for a minute before acknowledging us. To be clear we were the only ones standing there, not amongst a larger crowd. First thing she said was, "Reservations?" No greeting or half-way attempt at warmth. Service industry much? Am I being picky? Maybe. But if it was only that, I wouldn't write about it. We asked if they could take three (two adults, one child). Her answer was a flat, "No." Didn't expound. Didn't offer a way of getting a table. No offer to make reservations, no offer to get on a wait list. Like I said, nothing to inform the customer of how to obtain such a vaunted seat at one of their illustrious tables. I should reserve the snark, but difficult when they don't care about their own biz. So why should I? She told us to sit in the bar if there's any space. We reminded her that we had a child, again. I really don't like not recommending a restaurant however, my grandson had ribs, and they were overcooked as was the chicken yet somehow cold and slathered with tons of barbecue sauce, my husband had gumbo that was terrible. It looked awful had very little meat in it, and tasted not good, he also had a Caesar salad now I'm not saying it made him sick but within two hours he was having stomach pains and spent all day Monday in the restroom and sick. I'm just saying that well the manager took the ribs and chicken and gumbo off her bill. We ended up paying $40 For nothing the fish and chips that I had were only OK the french fries again cold and the fish if you like cornmeal was delicious but unfortunately I'm not a big cornmeal fan. That's sad I would not recommend it except for fish and chips however, after having went to. Lava lava. I would definitely go there and skip Fosters, but you do what you wanna do I do feel under the circumstances the manager should have pretty much comped the whole dinner. Using the "Hot and New" search on Yelp helped us find this restaurant across the street from our hotel in the middle of the Kings' Shops retail plaza. It has a high-ceilinged interior and outdoor seating at both the front and back of the restaurant. After about a five minute wait, we were seated in the back outdoor area which overlooks water and has a series of tarps to protect from rain or too much sun. Great location! Our animated waiter did a great job of pointing out the highlights of the menu and let us know that if we were interested in any of the baked desserts that we let him know about half way through our dining so that we didn't have to wait so long after our entrees. Good planning! I went with his recommendation of the fresh catch "Opah" which I ordered blackened with a couple sides: sticky rice and sauteed vegetables which were both good. The fish was somewhat dense like swordfish, but still was still fork tender. I was a little disappointed that the fish was just lightly seasoned instead of blackened. Maybe it was just Cajun and I though it was supposed to be blackened. Anyway, I ended up using the house tartar sauce which was really good and paired well with the seasoned fish. Note: the sides available for you dinner aren't listed in the menu separately. They are grouped under the Burger listing. My wife and grandson both got the fish and chips. The fish is served with a corn bread coating that gets really crisp and adds a nice crunch to the bite. Inside, the bites I managed to get were still moist inside. The dish is served with regular or seasoned fries. I think we liked the food and service, even the location. Where the disappointment came was in the beverages. My grandson's Arnold Palmer tasted mostly of tea. He ended up squeezing some fresh lemon to balance it out. I ordered a beer from Waikiki Brewing, the Hana Hau Hefe which lacked any of the trademark flavors of banana and clove that I get in the Midwest. Not much flavor at all. I normally wouldn't comment on that except when the waiter asked, I answered and he knew that it wouldn't taste like most hefes. Telling before hand would have been helpful. My wife was really disappointed with the Lele Lemonade cocktail which had a mundane presentation and even less flavor. I would have mentioned it to the waiter and tried something else, but she doesn't like to complain. Hopefully, the staff will re-evaluate the drink and take it up a notch. While staying in Hawaii for a week, we ate at this place four times. The steakhouse burger is delicious and unique, but my favorite was the ribs. I'm not sure what they do to them, but they were so good, I ate them three of the four times we were there. The service was also great. I would recommend you get a reservation if you want to sit inside. This restaurant is the highlight of the Kings Shopping Center and the best value in food in the area. Enjoy! read more

This was our first time visiting this restaurant and it did NOT disappoint. I had the blackened fish tacos, after the waitress recommended it. They were delicious and very filling. My husband ordered the half slab of ribs and Cajun fries which were also delicious. We were seated at a bayside window during the lunch hour, which was quite nice. Worst experience I may have ever had. We were a group of 4. Waited over an hour for a table and they skipped us. After showing 0 tables in front of us then back to 4 we asked and they realized the mistake. Then after ordering our food the server comes over to the table beside us to let them know they are out of mashed potatoes and to see what else they would like. She doesn't ask our table at all. Another table of 5 comes in beside us after we had already ordered. They received their meals before us. When our meal finally comes it's not what we ordered. They bring rice with one meal and the other they didn't even attempt to do 2 sides as it was supposed to be. So they wanted $28 for a pork chop and scoop of rice. I asked the server about it and she grabbed up the plate and said she would scoop off the rice. She was rolling her eyes saying ok ok ok not helpful and actually mad because we didn't want what we didn't order. She didn't care to help or that it was wrong. We couldn't get a drink that we were trying to order or just straws. Worst service (coming from a fellow server and restaurant owner) and mediocre food. I would give 0 stars if possible. read more

Crab cakes were tasty. Although the food we took home was not the case. The spicy chicken wings had no taste & were like chewing rubber bands. The ribs were over cooked & very, vry dry. The side of potato salad (maybe 2 tablespoons in the container) was also a let down. A restaurant running 70 min wait times won't let you order take out? So weird. While we did arrive in person and get a table they quoted us 60-70 min wait and we were texted and and seated in 25. So don't give up. The service was overwhelmed but that's seems to be the MO all over with low staffing. Our appetizer came out with the meal and the waiter was MIA the rest of the visit. With limited dining options in Waikoloa it's kinda hard to avoid and forced to endure. The food was decent while the thin crust pizza was far from thin. read more

The food is pretty good, actually. I hate to write a negative review, but unfortunately, I feel that I must due to the major omissions and inconsistencies between the listed menu item price and the amount you may actually be charged. On the burgers section of both the printed and online menus, they state that Beyond Burgers may be substituted for any non-fish patty. What they DON'T say anywhere on the menu is that they will charge $6 extra for the Beyond patty. Additionally, my burger's base price was listed for a dollar less than what I was initially charged for, without the substitution. Finally, the drink I ordered was substituted on the receipt for another drink that was nearly twice the price. If I had not checked the receipt (something I rarely do in the first place) I would have been charged an extra $12. I did appreciate that the server immediately changed the receipt to reflect the amount that I should have paid. She was very courteous and claimed that no one had ever noticed any of these things before. I unfortunately find this very hard to believe, and I don't wish to assume the worst about the business practices of a restaurant, but the immediate reversal of these charges without any sort of explanation had me raising my eyebrows. I fully understand that COVID has impacted so many businesses here, and if there had been any transparency in regards to the necessity of raising menu prices, I would have totally understood and agreed to pay them. However, if a restaurant needs to rely on blatant dishonesty and deceptively overcharge in order to stay afloat, I just cannot support that. I don't believe anyone else should, either. Walked up at about 8pm on a Tuesday night (Aug 13th), there were only a couple tables occupied, not anywhere close to being busy. Was told by the hostess that food would be an 1.5 hour wait. Half of our group left and went to a nearby restaurant who gladly accepted us. The other half stayed and sat at the bar, then was also told by the bartender that sitting at the bar wouldn't get them their food any sooner. However when they ordered their food, they got it within a half an hour. It was decent. They did last call and kicked everyone out at 9:30, according to their hours, they close at 10. Seems like they wanted to close early and used the 1.5 hour wait as en excuse to deter our patronage. Managers/Owners, check your staff and their attitudes! The food was fine, I got the Szechuan Ahi Tuna and it just was very mid, there isn't much to say about it. To call it Szechuan is definitely an overstatement there was very little flavor.
