So glad we decided to stay and sit at the bar for a drink until we could be seated at a table. The well drinks were on point at good price, bartender pleasant and large full bar. Once seated we enjoyed our window table overlooking the large pond and part of the golf course. Our server was very sweet, said she was pretty new but was still helpful. The menu had lots of great sounding apprised entrees, hard to decide. We decided to just order entrees because it was mid-afternoon and had dinner planned for later. I ordered the Carolina pulled pork plate, $16 which was delicious! The pork had bits of the crispy seasoned bark mixed in, yum. Came w/savory hush puppies w/honey butter, braised greens and pineapple slaw. Everything soooo good! Hubby ordered the small plate of sirloin steak W/fries$16. He was very happy with it. Was quite busy. Wait time was going to be 45 mins so we sat at the bar with immediate seating. Under staffed or they just need another system of some sort. Noticed the bottle neck was at the hostess stand (she was taking call ins for seating, seating those on wait list and attending to those with take out orders). Other bottle neck was when food was finished by cooks. One person was gathering food orders and putting on a platter then servers would pick up platters then off they would go. Went here twice. The first night after a day of travel and thought the food was amazing. Went there the next day. Realized there is zero ambiance. They spent no money on the interior of this thing. The items we got the second day were not good. If I am in Hawaii I want strong tropical drinks, their drinks did not live up at all. Online they advertised an amazing sounding happy hour. This has to be the worst restaurant we have ever eaten. We ordered the famous "stuffed chicken" and it was like eating bubble gum because it was so rubbery. I think the chicken was frozen so when it is cooked it comes out dry and rubbery. It was truly disgusting. I think even a dog wouldn't eat this food. The chicken strips were also burnt and the fries were burnt and limp at the same time. The only decent thing was Cesar salad from a bag. We know Covid caused so much problems for restaurants but this is the worst experience. Our meal was over 100 dollars and we feel that it was worth 5 bucks. I have been to the Big Island 5 times now and we found ourselves in the area I really wanted to like this place, but it was very disappointing. The food lacked flavor and the mixed drinks were so-so. There were four of us and we all ordered different dishes and we all didn't finish our meals. Service was really slow...I have a feeling that the staff doesn't split tips because the food just sat on the line getting baked by the heat lamps while the wait staff just stood there. And like a lot of "mall type restaurants"...overpriced. So, if you're staying in Waikoloa, get in your car and drive somewhere else. read more

We had high hopes for this place based on the reviews but honestly were disappointed. Service is such a huge factor for a restaurant and the service here really was lacking. We stood at the hostess station for probably 5 minutes and it wasn't busy at all. No one seemed interested in helping us at all. Several servers looked our way and one even said "just wait here". Eventually another family came and we started joking about seating ourselves and someone overheard us and came and helped. Took too long to get drinks and I ordered Diet Coke. I got either coke or Dr Pepper but either way it was wrong and this is one of my biggest issues. If I were diabetic and they made that mistake, it could put me in the hospital. This is not ok and its careless. Refills took forever. Had to ask twice etc. just not impressed. Food. They boast about everything made in house so we had high hopes on taste. I had a salad with goat cheese balls. The goat cheese was excellent. Salad dressing was decent (sesame soy vinaigrette) but not fabulous. My sons Cajun pasta was eh. Too much sauce and the veggies were cut weird (onions so long they looked like spaghetti??). He also ordered it without tomatoes and found 2 tomatoes in it. Again, he's not allergic but if he was that would have been a huge issue. The shrimp in it was excellent. The toast with it was relatively tasteless. My husbands stuffed chicken was good and he enjoyed it but the sauce was just ok. My other sons cheese pizza was cooked perfectly but again the sauce and crust were just average. Overall, if the service had been good we probably would have a different take but with average food and below average service, this was one of our least favorite food stops. read more

No wonder it was only us for to go and one other party sitting down in the restaurant. The wait for a table was typical for the area. About 30/45 minutes. The Gorgonzola pasta was super good, seasoned well and ate every bite. Holy smokes this meal was a disaster. We've been enjoying meals on the Bjg Island for 5 days and this one was BY FAR the worst meal we experienced. The portions were putrid. The "13+ chicken tenders" my daughter ordered were the size of a Keike meal. The "garlic bread" was literally 2 slices of toasted white bread and were soggy at best. The grilled cheese with tomato basil was missing the cheese. Literally grilled onions and a small portion of cheese. It could hardly pass for a meal. We were told they were out of fries, yes noticed several orders with freshly made fries being served. Hush puppies? Nope, they're out of those too. Soft drinks - flat. flat. flat. We were excited to try Fosters Kitchen after seeing it featured of Diners Drive-ins and Dives. Apparently Guy Fiore ain't always right . We ordered a Cesar with shrimp which was decent. Then came the chicken and ribs. The heap of soggy soggy fries was to bad to eat, and who can't eat French fries. This lot accompanied a pepper thin, rubbery slab of chicken. I actually asked the waitress how they got the chicken so thin, she said they pounded it. Indeed they must have. The ribs were edible but In retrospect we should have gone to McDonalds and gotten a McRib sandwich which would haven been on par, but at least the fries would have been good. read more

We walked into Fosters without a reservation and were immediately seated. Our waiter, Isaiah (aka Zay) greeted us with a friendly professional demeanor. This quickly changed to a helpful attitude to help us choose what we wanted to eat. I ordered the fish of the day, cooked to perfection and served with great sides. My wife had the shrimp and grits! She loved it! Zay was attentive to our needs without being over bearing. We wavered on desert until Zay offered to send it home with us, we ordered one strawberry cheese cake but he gave us two! The manager, Chris came around to check on us and we got to compare notes of both of us from the NW, him Oregon and us Idaho. Overall our experience was top notch and we are returning for another meal before we leave the island. Highly recommend this for great food, atmosphere and service. read more

The Foster's in Kailua-Kona was amazing, so we thought we'd give this one a try while we're in town for lunch. Wait staff was perfectly pleasant, but seemed to be understaffed. Ordered buffalo chicken sandwich. It was horrifically mediocre. I don't know who decided to use wings for the sandwich but it was an awful decision. It's also not really a buffalo sandwich, just a fried chicken sandwich with buffalo ranch on it. The fries were cold when we got our food. Hunger won out and I ate the sandwich anyway, but not the fries. Food was not worth it or enjoyable. read more

Definitely found a gem here outside our resort. Excellent service! From the greeter to the wait staff to the cooks behind the line--everyone was engaged and making magic happen. The food was served quickly, piping hot, and delicious...we got fried green tomatoes, hush puppies, a burger and the ribs. The ribs come with the best coleslaw I've ever had. This was our first time coming to this resturant and it was just okay. The drinks and service were fine but the food was unremarkable. I had a steak and ask for medium, it was well done. The mix veg was raw and it was like eating raw vegetables rolled in butter. The kids meals were just okay. You are better off going to the grocery store and ordering food there. This review is based on a visit back in July to the Kings Shops location in Waikoloa! In short- a disaster for the most part! From the start- being required to wait outdoors for seating for what seemed like 15 minutes in the July heat was unacceptable, especially when it was discovered that the hostess inside could easily see us outside where there was no attendant at the booth and this for a place that clearly had adequate personnel, in a restaurant that was anything but crowded and at noon! So as I decided to 'breach' security and go inside uninvited- I could see my initiative wasn't welcomed and I felt the same about my presence! We were finally seated with friends who had already arrived! Then on a hot day, the hope is for a glass of water in a reasonable amount of time and this too was taking far too long! A simple glass of water! When I mentioned it to the waitress who seemed to be completely non-chalant about it- she looked peeved and irritated at my nerve to ask! I was given a terse response but finally the water did arrive! Then the order- again one hopes for a reasonable response with this- once again- I would conservatively estimate a 15 minute response with taking the order! The waitress remained curt, even abrasive and didn't mind interrupting! The food was satisfactory but why should a person have to summon the waitress for a spoon with the gumbo when one wasn't provided!? At this point you are wondering if these people are stupid, negligent or just having a lousy week or worse- a lousy life?? We finally finished the meal and then the check doesn't arrive for at least 10 minutes and once again attention has to be called to this dilemma! This was a cluster fu#$ from the start and I 'generously' left a 10% tip, which in hindsight was far too generous! Foster's has another location in Kona and my wife and I have dined there on one occassion, for a dinner in a crowded place and found everything very satisfactory! One has to wonder about this cluster fu## at the Waikoloa location? Was it lack of training? Lousy management promoting an indifferent, callous attitude? Diversity accomodation run amuck?
