Was quite busy. Wait time was going to be 45 mins so we sat at the bar with immediate seating. Under staffed or they just need another system of some sort. Noticed the bottle neck was at the hostess stand (she was taking call ins for seating, seating those on wait list and attending to those with take out orders). Other bottle neck was when food was finished by cooks. One person was gathering food orders and putting on a platter then servers would pick up platters then off they would go. Called to make reservation and was told they didn't take them but it would be a 30 min wait. When we arrived we waited for 1 hour and 30 minutes. Went here for lunch today- got the garden salad which is supposed to have tomatoes, cucumbers, garlic croutons and a macadamia nut crust ball of goat cheese with your choice of dressing- I asked to add chicken to the salad- grilled chicken, the salad came out with grilled shrimp so I asked if they could change it- when the salad came back from the kitchen it had chicken and lettuce/ so it appears someone dumped the top of the salad off which previously had all the toppings to add the chicken- so one tomato, some croutons, chicken which was over cooked and lettuce for 16 dollars, we also had another salad which was made correctly for 18 dollars and an ice tea and sparkling water - the server was accommodating and the hostess was great even when the service was slow due to understaffing- I don't mind that but I do mind a sloppy kitchen- if you are going to take time, make it right! read more

Definitely found a gem here outside our resort. Excellent service! From the greeter to the wait staff to the cooks behind the line--everyone was engaged and making magic happen. The food was served quickly, piping hot, and delicious...we got fried green tomatoes, hush puppies, a burger and the ribs. The ribs come with the best coleslaw I've ever had. I liked it so much I told the waitress it was the best I had ever had and she brought me some more! Super attentive and nice! The ambiance & price point were also lovely. Holy smokes this meal was a disaster. We've been enjoying meals on the Bjg Island for 5 days and this one was BY FAR the worst meal we experienced. The portions were putrid. The "13+ chicken tenders" my daughter ordered were the size of a Keike meal. The "garlic bread" was literally 2 slices of toasted white bread and were soggy at best. The grilled cheese with tomato basil was missing the cheese. Literally grilled onions and a small portion of cheese. It could hardly pass for a meal. We were told they were out of fries, yes noticed several orders with freshly made fries being served. Hush puppies? Nope, they're out of those too. Soft drinks - flat. flat. flat. Our first time here... WOW!!! The food was amazing.... we had the Cajun Shrimp pasta... light , fresh and a little spicy.... outstanding!! I had the Ono.... with fresh vegetables and mash potatoes.... fish was perfect as were the sides. Anuhea was our server... OUTSTANDING!!!! Can't say enough about her... attentiveness and service was some of the best I have seen in my 50 years eating around the world. Came here with my partner and I recommended the fried pork chops. They're delicious. My partner ordered the ribs and chicken and he said it was good but then he tried my fried pork chops and he was like that blew me away. He ended up saying he wished he had ordered the fried pork chops because they just couldn't compare to what he had ordered they were so good. I also agreed that the pork chops were delicious although a bit heavy so after I finished I felt so full and lethargic. They also give two big pieces of pork chops so I couldn't even eat the rest of the plate of mashed potatoes and veggies. We also ordered the calamari as appetizers but ended up sending it back. It wasn't our cup of tea. But I highly highly recommend the fried pork chops. So so good. read more

We walked into Fosters without a reservation and were immediately seated. Our waiter, Isaiah (aka Zay) greeted us with a friendly professional demeanor. This quickly changed to a helpful attitude to help us choose what we wanted to eat. I ordered the fish of the day, cooked to perfection and served with great sides. My wife had the shrimp and grits! She loved it! Zay was attentive to our needs without being over bearing. We wavered on desert until Zay offered to send it home with us, we ordered one strawberry cheese cake but he gave us two! The manager, Chris came around to check on us and we got to compare notes of both of us from the NW, him Oregon and us Idaho. Overall our experience was top notch and we are returning for another meal before we leave the island. Highly recommend this for great food, atmosphere and service. read more

The Foster's in Kailua-Kona was amazing, so we thought we'd give this one a try while we're in town for lunch. Wait staff was perfectly pleasant, but seemed to be understaffed. Ordered buffalo chicken sandwich. It was horrifically mediocre. I don't know who decided to use wings for the sandwich but it was an awful decision. It's also not really a buffalo sandwich, just a fried chicken sandwich with buffalo ranch on it. The fries were cold when we got our food. Hunger won out and I ate the sandwich anyway, but not the fries. Food was not worth it or enjoyable. read more

We flagged down the one waiter attending to her customers to ask for water and another round. Normally I assume that poor service reflects short staffing but we could see the wait staff congregating where the food came out. Chris our host was very professional and attentive, seated us right away my wife and I thought he might be the owner of the establishment found out later he was a general manager we can tell he really cares about what he's doing he caters not only to the tourist, but takes care of the local guys like us. waitress Jane gave us excellent service. Everything came fast. and hot. and she was very cordial. and friendly. food was excellent. We had the barbecue ribs with Lilikoi sauce, garlic mashed potatoes with a cheesecake. So bummed! My friend and I went here last night (Wednesday night) for dinner. Love the atmosphere inside and the food looked amazing from the expo window BUT what made us turn around and go elsewhere was the fact the expo, he wasn't wearing his mask properly. This was our first time coming to this resturant and it was just okay. The drinks and service were fine but the food was unremarkable. I had a steak and ask for medium, it was well done. The mix veg was raw and it was like eating raw vegetables rolled in butter. The kids meals were just okay. You are better off going to the grocery store and ordering food there. This has been a commonality for many eateries post inflation. Waitress explained new system couldn't read our card. FK had already been paid the money ($100). They told us to remain seated while they tried to figure it out. We waited for an unreasonable amount of time - only to be told we had to pay the full bill. $100 gift card plus the cost of the meal. We're civil servants on a shoe-string budget, we've served this community longer than Foster's Kitchen has been in business. Kona beware this place. We will *never* be back again. Our *lunch* cost us $194. If a business is going to cancel gift cards (which have already been paid for) they should at least inform the purchaser. read more
