The appetizers were great, the entrees were mediocre, but the star of the show was the bill! We had a gift card for FK. They said their new "system" couldn't read a gift card. This has been a commonality for many eateries post inflation. Waitress explained new system couldn't read our card. FK had already been paid the money ($100). They told us to remain seated while they tried to figure it out. We waited for an unreasonable amount of time - only to be told we had to pay the full bill. $100 gift card plus the cost of the meal. We're civil servants on a shoe-string budget, we've served this community longer than Foster's Kitchen has been in business. Kona beware this place. We will *never* be back again. Our *lunch* cost us $194. If a business is going to cancel gift cards (which have already been paid for) they should at least inform the purchaser. read more

Our first time here... WOW!!! The food was amazing.... we had the Cajun Shrimp pasta... light , fresh and a little spicy.... outstanding!! I had the Ono.... with fresh vegetables and mash potatoes.... fish was perfect as were the sides. Anuhea was our server... OUTSTANDING!!!! Can't say enough about her... attentiveness and service was some of the best I have seen in my 50 years eating around the world. Came here with my partner and I recommended the fried pork chops. They're delicious. My partner ordered the ribs and chicken and he said it was good but then he tried my fried pork chops and he was like that blew me away. He ended up saying he wished he had ordered the fried pork chops because they just couldn't compare to what he had ordered they were so good. I also agreed that the pork chops were delicious although a bit heavy so after I finished I felt so full and lethargic. They also give two big pieces of pork chops so I couldn't even eat the rest of the plate of mashed potatoes and veggies. We also ordered the calamari as appetizers but ended up sending it back. It wasn't our cup of tea. But I highly highly recommend the fried pork chops. So so good. read more

Love the atmosphere inside and the food looked amazing from the expo window BUT what made us turn around and go elsewhere was the fact the expo, he wasn't wearing his mask properly. Very disappointed. We where seated right away. However, that was pretty much the end of the service. Not once did they refill our glasses. I had the burger which was quite good, the fries where delicious. My husband had a pasta dish that was less than run of the mill. Not enough sauce on it and it was like a jar of sauce you get at the supermarket. The pasta set under a heat lamp quite awhile and was pretty luke warm. Nice atmosphere but now worth the time or trouble. They need to reorganize the front time and get the food to the tables not sitting under the heat lamps. The counter under the heat lamps was about 20 ft. long and it was filled with orders just sitting there. We won't go there again. read more

They placed an appetizer on my final bill that I didn't have and I ran my card before I noticed. They took care of it right away. My wife and I went for a quick bite. We sat at the bar with one other couple, we waited about 5 mins for the bartender to come and take our drink and food order. After about 20 min after ordering we looked over and could see my wife's veggie sandwich sitting on the counter under a heat lamp. 10 mins later they brought over her sandwich and they apologized they were waiting on my Cesar salad with chicken on it. 15 mins later I still don't have my salad so I ask the bartender for my meal to go and for the check. After another 10 mins I see the bartender in the kitchen making my salad and putting it in a to go box. He then brings it and tries to quickly cash me out. He then charges me for not only our drinks, my wife sandwich, my salad with chicken but also charges me for a completely different salad we didn't order. He then has to go to a manager to refund it and tries again. This time I look closer at the receipt before giving my card and they are still over charging me for a side order of chicken. Finally he goes back the manager to once again correct the order and this time removes the salad all together and doesn't charge me. All while the manager stood around laughing and didn't have the courtesy to come apologize. Overall it took over and hour and a half to get a veggie sandwich and a Cesar salad. Yes some will say they didn't charge you for the salad but I didn't go there for a free meal. I went to enjoy a quick bite with my wife and they ended up wasting my time while on vacation when I could have been enjoy other activities. read more

My husband and I went here on a whim, since there were no available reservations. We were seated promptly and Delrae (our waitress) did an *amazing* job. They ran out of their popular dishes by lunch and seem to be used to that. Maybe if they prepare more of what they know people like them they won't be disappointing customers. WOW!! We only wish we could have visited more times during our trip to Hawaii! Everything we ordered was fantastic. Fish tacos, crab cakes, steak, meatloaf, fish and chips, and especially the Banana Foster. They also have many gluten-free options clearly marked and were able to accommodate my son's many food allergies. They served him his first ever egg-free, dairy-free, wheat-free fish and chips. Finally a spot that has food worth the price! We were visiting Big Island from Oahu (Waikiki to be specific). The resorts food was horrible so we decided to explore off the resort. We tried this place because they had indoor seating, to be honest. The first visit, we ordered the hush puppies, stuffed mushrooms, and fried green tomatoes. All were great with the exception of the fried green tomatoes but they were apologetic and kindly took them off our Bill. We also ordered the shrimp and grits and cheeseburger (for our son) during our first visit. No complaints to either. All were flavorful and delicious. We also met the owner and thought this was a great addition. We decided to go back for NYE. We ordered the hush puppies, fried chicken, and fried pork chops. The chicken and pork chops were lightly breaded and full of flavor. We were not disappointed. Needless to say, when we return to Big Island, we will visit this location again. The waitress were friendly and the atmosphere was amazing. I promise you will not be disappointed. I'm a southern girl from NC and good food is hard to find on the islands.
