Very disappointed. We where seated right away. However, that was pretty much the end of the service. Not once did they refill our glasses. I had the burger which was quite good, the fries where delicious. My husband had a pasta dish that was less than run of the mill. Not enough sauce on it and it was like a jar of sauce you get at the supermarket. The pasta set under a heat lamp quite awhile and was pretty luke warm. Nice atmosphere but now worth the time or trouble. They need to reorganize the front time and get the food to the tables not sitting under the heat lamps. The counter under the heat lamps was about 20 ft. long and it was filled with orders just sitting there. We won't go there again. read more

My wife and I went for a quick bite. We sat at the bar with one other couple, we waited about 5 mins for the bartender to come and take our drink and food order. After about 20 min after ordering we looked over and could see my wife's veggie sandwich sitting on the counter under a heat lamp. 10 mins later they brought over her sandwich and they apologized they were waiting on my Cesar salad with chicken on it. 15 mins later I still don't have my salad so I ask the bartender for my meal to go and for the check. After another 10 mins I see the bartender in the kitchen making my salad and putting it in a to go box. He then brings it and tries to quickly cash me out. He then charges me for not only our drinks, my wife sandwich, my salad with chicken but also charges me for a completely different salad we didn't order. He then has to go to a manager to refund it and tries again. This time I look closer at the receipt before giving my card and they are still over charging me for a side order of chicken. Finally he goes back the manager to once again correct the order and this time removes the salad all together and doesn't charge me. All while the manager stood around laughing and didn't have the courtesy to come apologize. Overall it took over and hour and a half to get a veggie sandwich and a Cesar salad. Yes some will say they didn't charge you for the salad but I didn't go there for a free meal. I went to enjoy a quick bite with my wife and they ended up wasting my time while on vacation when I could have been enjoy other activities. read more

My wife and I went here a few days ago around 8 pm. Long wait for a table, but found 2 spots at the bar right away. Bartenders were awesome, recommended a few items. Gumbo and puff pastries were delicious, and their beer selection was great. I loved the atmosphere and the waitstaff was wonderful. Unfortunately everything I wanted to order , the kitchen was "out of". It was barely 1 pm. They ran out of their popular dishes by lunch and seem to be used to that. Maybe if they prepare more of what they know people like them they won't be disappointing customers. I went to add a tip and asked her to bring up the screen again and she huffed in my face this really awkward angry laugh and said HAHAHAH YOU'RE SO FUNNY! Funny? I asked? The prices are fair and the portions are large. My fish burger was cooked perfectly and the salad I had was so fresh tasting. WOW!! We only wish we could have visited more times during our trip to Hawaii! Everything we ordered was fantastic. Fish tacos, crab cakes, steak, meatloaf, fish and chips, and especially the Banana Foster. They also have many gluten-free options clearly marked and were able to accommodate my son's many food allergies. They served him his first ever egg-free, dairy-free, wheat-free fish and chips. Came here on our last night for dinner. We wished we would have found this gem sooner. From the moment you walk in until you walk out they welcome you with smiles with true hospitality. Finally a spot that has food worth the price! We were visiting Big Island from Oahu (Waikiki to be specific). The resorts food was horrible so we decided to explore off the resort. We tried this place because they had indoor seating, to be honest. The first visit, we ordered the hush puppies, stuffed mushrooms, and fried green tomatoes. All were great with the exception of the fried green tomatoes but they were apologetic and kindly took them off our Bill. We also ordered the shrimp and grits and cheeseburger (for our son) during our first visit. No complaints to either. All were flavorful and delicious. We also met the owner and thought this was a great addition. We decided to go back for NYE. We ordered the hush puppies, fried chicken, and fried pork chops. The chicken and pork chops were lightly breaded and full of flavor. We were not disappointed. Needless to say, when we return to Big Island, we will visit this location again. The waitress were friendly and the atmosphere was amazing. I promise you will not be disappointed. I'm a southern girl from NC and good food is hard to find on the islands. Warning, they do make everything from scratch, including their ranch dressing. Wasn't a fan of the ranch, tasted a bit odd and too much dill. Husband got the shrimp and grits. Yummy. Super large portion and super super rich grits. We also split the lilikoi cheesecake. That was meh. It was a no bake which I'm not really a fan of. The best meal and service on The Big Island! We have been here for 6 days and have tried 2 different restaurants each day. We live in Ohio and have access to many restaurants with the concept of farm to table. This restaurant is a great experience and worth the wait to be seated. No reservations are taken, but the wait time was less than what was estimated. We ordered an appetizer, cocktail, entree, and even dessert. We had a very unfortunate visit. We waited at the bar for our table for about half an hour, bartender did not greet us or give us water and did not check on us after giving us our drinks. We got to our table server did not properly greet us or give a name of who would be taking care of us. Got our appetizers and it had no flavor, as it came to our entrees the New York steak was way over cooked and chicken pesto pasta had no flavor what so ever. Definitely do not recommend. read more

Despite all this, we had a very satisfying experience there tonight. iMHO credit for setting the standard goes to the manager who tonight was host, runner, busser--anything that needed doing. Excellent server, bartender and kitchen. This is not fine dining, but great value and quality food served professionally. BTW--they have a modest but very well selected and sourced wine list. This review is based on a visit back in July to the Kings Shops location in Waikoloa! In short- a disaster for the most part! From the start- being required to wait outdoors for seating for what seemed like 15 minutes in the July heat was unacceptable, especially when it was discovered that the hostess inside could easily see us outside where there was no attendant at the booth and this for a place that clearly had adequate personnel, in a restaurant that was anything but crowded and at noon! So as I decided to 'breach' security and go inside uninvited- I could see my initiative wasn't welcomed and I felt the same about my presence! We were finally seated with friends who had already arrived! Then on a hot day, the hope is for a glass of water in a reasonable amount of time and this too was taking far too long! A simple glass of water! When I mentioned it to the waitress who seemed to be completely non-chalant about it- she looked peeved and irritated at my nerve to ask! I was given a terse response but finally the water did arrive! Then the order- again one hopes for a reasonable response with this- once again- I would conservatively estimate a 15 minute response with taking the order! The waitress remained curt, even abrasive and didn't mind interrupting! The food was satisfactory but why should a person have to summon the waitress for a spoon with the gumbo when one wasn't provided!? At this point you are wondering if these people are stupid, negligent or just having a lousy week or worse- a lousy life?? We finally finished the meal and then the check doesn't arrive for at least 10 minutes and once again attention has to be called to this dilemma! This was a cluster fu#$ from the start and I 'generously' left a 10% tip, which in hindsight was far too generous! Foster's has another location in Kona and my wife and I have dined there on one occassion, for a dinner in a crowded place and found everything very satisfactory! One has to wonder about this cluster fu## at the Waikoloa location? Was it lack of training? Lousy management promoting an indifferent, callous attitude? Diversity accomodation run amuck? Service 5+ stars- I've been here twice now and both times the service was perfect. A warm greeting from the hostess and then fast, friendly, and attentive service from the servers. This is coming from someone who has worked in food service and hospitality for 15+ years and admittedly has very high standards for service. Seriously, I was so impressed both times. Keep it up guys! (Anna is so so sweet and deserves a special shout out! She was our server. A+) Food- Great menu and tasty food. They even have "Small Bites" plates for $12, which I ordered from both times as it doesn't take much to fill me up and I like to have room for a dessert and drink. 1/4 rack or ribs with a side- delicious! Lilikoi Cheesecake- one of the best cheesecakes I've ever had. Everything is scratch made in house if I remember correctly. Props to them. OH! And $3.50 for kids meal!!
