My second visit in 1 week did not disappoint. My son and I had lunch here on New Year's Eve. We were seated immediately. Servers were excellent. I think it was Anna's first few days of training and she's really good. The bruschetta is just so good I had to get it again. I also had the cajun fish tacos which were so fresh and tasty and perfectly made. My son had the chicken fingers and homemade fries. He ate everything! That alone means it was delicious. For dessert, the peanut butter cookies and vanilla ice cream. The cookies were warm, fresh, soft, and amazing! Happy New Year! It was fairly busy, or rather understaffed (pretty much every restaurant on the Island is) but we were able to have drinks at the bar before getting a table with a great ocean view. We should have left when the salad came out which by the way lettuce was all brown. Jokes on us it got worse. Next up was the tomato soup which had the taste of body odor it had the worst grilled cheese with onions in it and that tasted like feet. The cheese wasn't even melted. Don't even get me started on what was supposed to be fish and chips or the chicken tenders. The french fries were limp noodles the fish in the fish and chips was indescribable. Literally what was that? No one knows! Everything was either warm when it was supposed to be cold or cold when it was supposed to be warm. What was the best part. The service was different waited 35 minutes from ordering to receiving. The food was sitting under the heat lamps for 12 minutes before getting brought to the table. The barbecue sandwich was a little crunchy and stuck in the throat. The shrimp and grits were not as expected. But we should have expected that being from the south. The fish tacos lacked flavor they were fresh considering they spent 12 minutes under the heat lamps. For the price I would recommend something or somewhere else. read more

They don't take reservation so we went in and was told 45 min wait so we waited. After 45 min, we were told it's going to be another 15 min. After waiting for a table for an hour, we were told it's going to be another 30 min!!!!!! If you couldn't serve us then you should have told us an hour ago!!!!! This is so ridiculous! We love to support small local businesses but this is beyond unacceptable. I understand that you guys are short staffed but then you should have told us up front and be honest with us. The sad thing about is though that the employees didn't look like they were trying their best to accommodate us. We frequent this place but we will never come back again. Such a sad day. Fosters Kitchen wait staff is amazing! The food and drinks are equally as amazing. We stopped in at Fosters right after arriving on the Big Island from Seattle. We were tired, thirsty and hungry and Fosters was a very pleasant surprise. We felt welcome from start to finish. We enjoyed our experience at Fosters so much that in the week we were on the Big Island, we went there 3 times - each time was fantastic. The shrimp & grits, fresh fish tacos, pork chop, Ahi salad and the gumbo are all great choices. We also loved their Mai Tai - no bottled mixer. We will be arriving again in May 2020 - will stop by on the way to our condo! read more

Fish tacos were not great at all. Brown guacamole, plain cabbage that they qualified as coleslaw, and pieces of tomato that was supposed to be pico. Ehhhh. Not my favorite dining experience. Not the worst. We were seated next to a ramp, off the bar, in a sunken seating area. They kept serving over the railing which was weird because you don't expect someone leaning over you bringing your appetizer or drinks in that direction. Also our drinks were never refilled. Not once. They were also in tall, glass cups. The straws sink to the bottom bc they are paper straws and you loose your straw. Silly! Ran out of fries for dinner (I had my kids with me). Ordered mashed potato and they were sticky and no taste. I ordered the calamari and the waitress warned me that it was grilled. It was ok-ish, bland, small slices of the filet. I didn't taste any garlic like it says on menu. I'd never order it again. My Cobb salad was actually pretty good. I think 4-5 shrimp in it. All fresh and tastes great! My husbands burger was like a burnt hockey puck (he ordered it cooked Medium). Should have never have made it off the line that way. Took one bite and didn't eat any more. Waitress noted when table was cleared... the burger wasn't eaten? We didn't want to push it, but she asked again, so we said it was super over cooked. She said she'd talk to the line. I'd think they'd offer to do a no charge for it, but no. Plus we were all thirsty, no one came between when food was served and then when we finished. The service here was great, but the food was very underwhelming, unfortunately. My wife and I sat at the bar and started with the hush puppies, which were decent. The drinks were all good. We ordered the pesto chicken pasta and the steak house pasta. The meals came out and there was absolutely zero seasoning/taste to either of the pastas. Both resembled an Alfredo-like sauce, but they tasted like watered down milk with absolutely no taste. The steakhouse pasta was supposed to have an a Gorgonzola cream sauce with Gorgonzola and steak on top, but it did not resemble Gorgonzola (visibly or to taste) at all. If I'm being really picky there could've been more of a crust on it but at that point might as well just make it yourself. Family got Cajun shrimp pasta and a shrimp Cobb salad. Experienced Foster's Kitchen for the first time with my family. Their food was delicious with an array of choices to appease any palate. Prices were affordable, prepared on the spot and our server was very gracious. Will be back again and try another item on the menu. I would also like to add based on reading Sadie E's comment that... I am sorry, but to believe you were mistreated due to race is a completely unwarranted comment. The fact is that you feel so obligated to receive special treatment in today's day and age is something that is wrong with society now. Did you forget that you are not the only ones in the restaurant. There are many things going on during the course of the evening for a restaurant, in which I am sure it was not there intention to make you feel as though you were not a valued customer. Let alone for you to shame someone publicly, says something about how low class you are. He went to Foster's to pick us up dinner and waited an hour only to bring me back a half filled bowl of tomato bisque soup lacking the garnishes and a "grilled cheese" that was a slice of cheese between two pieces of bread. Liked the beachy vibe of the restaurant. Very open and tidy. Wait staff was helpful and friendly. We ordered blt sandwich with chicken. The insides of the sandwich was good. The focaccia holding it all together was not completely cooked. This resulted in a completely soggy bottom of the sandwich. My husband sent his back to be crisped up, but they only did the top. Awful service. We got there around 8:00 p.m.(they closed at 10pm) and the server took over 15 minutes to get to us just to bring us water. He asked if we were ready and we weren't so he came back about 15 minutes later and I ordered the stuffed chicken, my husband ordered the chicken fried steak and my kids ordered the chicken nuggets. The waiter comes back about 10 minutes later and tells me that they ran out of stuffed chicken. So I ordered the chicken fried steak like my husband. It's supposed to come on a bed of mashed potatoes. He brings out the first dish and it's tiny. Like literally it's pieces of chicken, not one big chicken. The chicken nuggets were awful too. Way over cooked and dry. Then he brings out the second one and it's on a bed of rice. We asked the waiter "why is this on rice it's supposed to be on mashed potatoes?" He tells us that the kitchen just told him that they were out of mashed potatoes. We told him "why weren't we informed?" We don't want this. It's supposed to be on mashed potatoes. It tastes weird on rice. He tells us well they just told us. We end up getting the bill and my husband asks for the manager and the waiter asks him why? We told him that we're not satisfied and he says that the manager was unavailable and that he can give us $3 off of our meal! Such crap. I will never eat here again. read more

My husband and I enjoy this place whenever we go time to time. Last night we chose take out like we've normally have in the past. Never had any concerns with anything we've ordered before, but I suggest ordering a salad someplace else. I ordered a small garden salad with ranch and grilled chicken (extra $7.00). This is what was in our bag: 1 slice of grilled chicken for an extra $7.00, and an unwanted fried cheese ball of some sort. My small salad came to a total of $15, which is outrageous if it only comes with 1 strip of chicken and 2 other small pieces. A little disappointed, but will continue eating here because there are other items in the menu that are worthy. I will be sure to avoid ordering any salads though. read more
