My sister and I came here after a lovely bike ride to the beach. We read the online description of Foster's Kitchen's stating "local," "fresh," "innovative," "scratch kitchen" and were very impressed and excited. Our experience was the furtherest from what this restaurant advertises. To begin with the atmosphere was odd, we ordered a beer and our waitress gave us a seltzer as she stated she thought it was a beer, as she was unclear what a beer was. My Hibiscus heat cocktail was very yummy but the description listed a nice balance between sweetness and heat from jalapeños, but where in the world was the jalapeño? No where to be found. Now onto the food. What a mess. I ordered a ~vegan~ burger and not only was the presentation horrendous and subpar it had meat on it. It took a long time to figure out to get my order corrected. My burger said it came with grilled jalapeños and I received raw jalapeños. My "crispy" onions were stale and had absolutely no flavor. I don't think I have ever tasted an onion with less flavor I am not sure how that was even possible. My sister and I ordered side salads and oof what sad salads we got. The descriptions of the salads and burgers were so detailed and yummy and only let us to be disappointed. My sisters burger was even worse than mine. Not only did it just look so unappealing for what was a $20 burger it was nasty. The meat was grey and gnarly. She asked for medium and got a well done hard chunk of meat on a soggy bun that was not brioche as stated on the menu with half a pickle on top. Also my silverware was dirty if all this wasn't enough trauma for one restaurant experience. Pleased they were able to get us a last minute reservation for 4. After reading reviews I had higher expectations. Service was mediocre. I felt like I was at a franchise like Chili's or Applebee's. We had such better experiences at other restaurants on the Big Island but this place definitely lacked. Don't go here expecting world class service or food. Dinner was served but plates from appetizers were never cleared. server came back mult times but her attn to detail lacked and she never cleared the plates or offered us water. Stuffed mushrooms were blah. Mushrooms were barely even cooked. The white button mushrooms were firm and still light in color but thankfully covered in marinara sauce and cheese. Shrimp and grits were Terrible. It was soupy and lacked flavor. My husband had the fish and chips and had one bite of his meal and pretty much tossed in the towel because it was Gross (he adda that the truffle fries were good- hence the 2 stars and not 1) Server failed to recognize that we only ate a few bites of the meal. Ambience was very casual. Which was fine but definitely not what I had in mind. Be prepared for the beach crowd atmosphere complete with bikini clad diners. The food was good overall. I ordered the pepperoni flatbread but it was lacking in pepperoni. I told them and they brought me more to add which was nice. The server was clearly overwhelmed and forgot parts of our order or got them mixed up with other guests. Long waiting list if you have no reservation. We went for happy hour where apps are $2 off but weren't terribly impressed by the 4 apps we ordered. All fine but nothing special. We sat at the bar and the bar and initially the bartender wasn't very welcoming or warm - ex: I asked if they were still offering happy hour and he said, "I don't know, it depends on what time it is." Uh, sir you literally have a POS terminal behind you showing the time. The chef was also definitely not wearing a mask as other reviewers have noted. Nice waitress, super friendly and really nice, and she was doing the best she could. The food though, was terrible. 4 out of 4 things ordered were either bland and cold, or like eating beef jerky (we ordered medium rare steak), or hockey pucks (we ordered medium rare burger) or 2x4 (country fried chicken). The pasta was a congealed blob of bland mush, while at the same time, tasting like earthy dirt. Save your money and time and eat elsewhere. read more

We were some of the first patrons to try out this new location recently and it is really great. The decor is very nice, the space is lovely and relaxing and the food is on point. We tried the calamari appetizer and it was unique and tasty. The salads are also good, as well as the pastas and the famous stuffed chicken (was recently featured on Food Network from their Kona location). The owners are awesome people, too! The fine food offerings of Hawaii are once again notable at Foster Kitchen in Waikoloa, Island of Hawaii. Just reopened December 15,2020, the chef here has reinvented the menu with marvelous dishes. I encourage referencing the menu on their website and wager on doing si, one will salivate at the excellent choices. I highly recommend the Ono if available. Prepared in a wonderful cajun sauce that is a compliment to my favorite fish, it is not too spiced as to detract, but enhances the flavor with a warm,enduring lingering taste on the palate. Also, the chicken linguini is awesome. A pasta of perfection in inexplicably amazing sauce. The service was attentive with every covid precaution observed. Tables amply separated, masks and distance respected. The seating inside or outside. accommodates patrons in fine Hawaii dining style. I placed an order for delivery via the Foster's website at 4 in the afternoon for a 6pm Mother's Day dinner. When my food had still not arrived at 6:30 I started to worry and attempted to contact the Resturant. After numerous busy singles and "voice mail turned off" messages I started to call the Kona location in hopes to get some insight as to where my dinner was. Aron who claimed to be the manager answered I let him know I had placed an order online, it has been over two hours and I was concerned the Resturant never got my order. I asked if I should expect a delivery at all. He stated he "can't wait till this online ordering is no longer a thing" that "I should call the Waikoloa location and he wouldn't be any help getting ahold of them as he would be calling the same number as me" like really? Your a -manager- And you don't have a line cooks phone number? Aron basically told me I was on my own. So why the 4 stars? Because PAULINE you see after I got off the phone with Aron I started calling the Waikoloa location (39 times) and finally I got a answer. A real person, at the Waikoloa location, ready to help and profusely apologizing. She let me know they were simply backed up, that my order was currently being made, that she was personally going to deliver it. 10 minutes later... She texted me from her personal cell phone to let me know she was on her way. PAULINE made my Mother's Day. She knew how important this meal was and she made sure I was not left hanging. Foster's is great. I am gluten free and they had quite a few well-marked choices. Everything was fresh and delicious. I had their lemonade and limeade from scratch, the sausage stuffed mushroom appetizer and also the fish and chips. Terrible. Walked out after waiting for over an hour and a half for lunch, order never came! On top of that, three other tables who arrived after we did received their orders before us! Manager completely preoccupied taking inventory while the limited staff was struggling to serve the customers. Would not recommend this restaurant until they "get it together!" Ordered fish and chips entree to go. Was asked what side we wanted. We said no side was mentioned on the menu. She listed sides, so we chose sautéed veggies. Got home to find the fish and chips ( fish, coleslaw and fries as described on menu) was fish and veggies! No fries or slaw. Called them and they did not understand the problem. We said, for example, if I ordered spaghetti and meatballs and you said what side and we selected veggies, would they then omit the meatballs??? They did not understand the problem, no apologies. Oscar provided my husband and I with excellent service tonight at dinner. He quickly met us at table after being seated asking for our drink orders. When I explained I had eating restrictions he was incredibly accommodating. My husband wanted the gumbo but a fresh pot wasn't quite done, he checked on it personally and came back immediately to let us know it was ready. The order was completed quickly AND accurately. Love this place. We liked it so much we went 2 nights in a row, our last meal before heading home. The food is great, servers are knowledgeable and attentive. Great atmosphere. If you're looking for great tasting food that feels like a non-tourist trap, eat here!! It's located in King's shops & we felt like we were at home near Hawaii Kai/Koko Marina. It's right off the water. We didn't have reservations--walked right in, seated promptly. My hubby & I shared pizza & a burger. Both were great, just know the fries are cajun seasoned; similar to "jerk" fries yet kinda salty. Our server Paulina was awesome & very personable. She recommended a few items on the menu & was attentive (& not overly). I really appreciate servers like Paulina who offer menu insight from the moment you're seated...it builds rapport, as opposed to being a nonchalant order taker going through the motions. Especially after our long drive back from Hilo...we simply wanted a quick bite & someone with a smile. She definitely created a warm welcome & set the bar. Very disappointed. We had high hopes for fosters kitchen since we have been to the one in kona but the one in Waikoloa was terrible. The wait was ridiculously long. I had the porky pig burger which was tough with minimal flavor besides the bbq sauce they put on top. The crispy fried onions that went on top was not crispy at all and seemed stale. I got the Cajun fries on the side which was also stale and cold. French fries are the worst when they are cold. My family got the steak burger which they also said was not good. And their fries were cold as well. We got the lemonade which was too potent and tasted like limeade instead. Altogether it wasn't a great first experience and if we go back (which won't be soon) we are hoping for a better experience. read more

Everything was great except for the food. ALL of it from fish to meat was overcooked and bland. It's the type of meal I'd expect for free on a plane. I had never asked for salt at a restaurant before . Drinks are great though and very good service combined with awesome views and coy fish. Good but never great typical bar and grill eatery. You'll find that many of their staples are pre-cooked and then "fired" when ordered. Such was the case of our burger dish that could not be made rare or medium rare. Service was friendly and professional and that was a plus. Hubby and I just ate here for dinner. Being July 4, the restaurant was very busy. I ordered fish and chips and didn't care for the fish and the fries were cold. However, the service was outstanding! The manager seemed quite concerned and had fresh fries made and sent me a drink to appease me. The service was so great, it made up for the food, which was good. I just didn't care for the preparation and they bent over backwards to make me happy. Our waiter, Poke, was excellent. Stopped in after a round of golf and holy cow what a find! Hidden gem of a place with fresh food made from scratch. The grilled calamari will make you sad for the poor calamari at other restaurants that must be fried. And the bbq chicken flatbread pizza is not to be missed, if you're into really good bbq chicken pizza. Throw in an ice cold local brew and what's not to like. The service was phenomenal. We ordered take out from them and the food was just ok. They messed up part of our order but the fries were the worst part. It was burnt, not crispy and inedible. No one ate them. I called to complain and they said I can come back and bring them there. And do what? Get new fries? The cost of gas and my time was not worth driving back to show them lousy fries. read more

Came here with my family for dinner - great service and food. We ordered Cajun shrimp, stuffed chicken and both were delicious. The kids pizza was amazing too and they finished all of it. Finally the dessert was yummy - we ordered the banana pudding. We will be back again this week to try some pizzas for adults. My wife and I spent a portion of our honeymoon at the Hilton Waikoloa Village, and were generally dissatisfied with the dining options on-property. Other than perhaps the Lava Lava Beach Club, we felt like Foster's Kitchen was the best choice nearby. We had a reservation and they were a little slow to seat us, but they made up for it with a free appetizer, which was very generous! We didn't make a stink or anything, they just did it. Great customer service. The prices are surprisingly reasonable for a resort area (in Hawaii no less!), and the food was tasty. I had fish and chips and my wife had a grilled ono dish. I'm told that they try to source locally as much as possible, which is great. Also, they had one of the best local beer selections I've seen anywhere on the island, with a good number of options from multiple Hawaiian breweries (Kona Brewing, Maui Brewing, Big Island Brewhaus, two that I'm not remembering). In fact, the only place I visited that had more options was the actual Kona Brewing Company pub. 5/5, would recommend to others and would go again. Cheers! read more
