Just ate Sophie's BBQ at Four Birds distilling and the whole experience was fantastic. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a smiling staffer and the delicious smell of bbq. So delicious I complimented the smell and realized the cook... pitmaster??.... was within ear shot. He promised a good meal and delivered. We were seated comfortably and the music playing made my early 2000's emo soul feel at home. For old times sake my husband used his Shazam app so we could remember all the bands we used to love. I think the bartender was our technical server but you could tell the staff works as a team. The person who sat us was taking orders for some tables, another person who delivered our food was taking orders for other tables and all three employees asked us several times if we needed anything and how our food/drinks were. To drink I had a Four Birds Old fashioned (I know odd choice when you're eating bbq.) It was made with-you guessed it- the house bourbon and ended up being just what an old fashion should be, smooth and fruity with great flavor. My husband got the Cosmic Candle- a New England IPA from Bald Birds Brewing that made me want to take a trip to their brewery in Jersey Shore, PA. Who knew that town even existed?? It was a hoppy and hazy 7.7% ABV 16 oz can that was priced to sell and I'd like a case. I could spend an afternoon exploring the drink menu and plan to go back soon to do just that. My husband and I did what the smartest married couples do, he ordered the Brisket BBQ sandwich and I ordered the Pulled Pork BBQ sandwich and we split them. I can tell you I liked the pulled pork better but that's cause I'm a pulled pork kind of gal. They were both piled high with meat, house made pickles and coleslaw. It was a struggle to finish but the good kind of struggle where you know left overs will never measure up so you put your big girl stretchy pants on and push through. They came with house made fries that rival any boardwalk on the *real* Jersey shore. We asked for a side of ranch cause we are condiment people. Guess what? That's house made too! There were more words in the description, some other flavors I can't remember, it doesn't matter because those words and mine would not do the flavor justice. For my two year old daughter we got a side of baked Mac and cheese. Creamy, gooey, rich and velvety she ate it with a smile on her face as big as the Jersey shore... I know three Jersey shore references is three too many. My only complaint is that Mother Nature wouldn't let us sit outside on a mid March night. We will be back though, warm weather or not, we will definitely be back. read more
