The website does not allow it, open table does not let you, and they never answer the call even after calling for over months. So we finally decided to walk in. The hostess explained its reservation and we explained the struggle to get a reservation and asked how we can do that. She said best to call late evening. They don't check anything else but luck of her answering your call. So I'm confused how they have business if they don't allow reservation but it's a reservation only restaurant?! I guess it's only for those who know the people employed. They allowed us to eat considering our explanation and struggle. This place has some damn good steak, plain and simple. All the sides are very delicious too. We got several steaks on the menu and were very good, but personally the 26oz. porterhouse steak, which is not on the menu, is their best steak by far. Never Give Up! It's worth the efforts. Four Winds is truly a hidden gem. This down home country style restaurant is located off the highway down the pasture over the hills to grandma's house. LOL. It is situated on a beautiful piece of land with a lovely pond. Per recommendation, we made reservations to visit Four Winds and review for ourselves. Making reservations wasn't an easy task. After multiple failed attempts to make a reservation on OpenTable and many, many unanswered phone calls, we were finally able to make a reservation via phone. Never Give Up! Keep trying until you get your reservation. It is well worth the efforts. Upon arrival, we let the hostess know we had a reservation and she immediately informed a waiting Waitress of seating options for us. We were seated and had drink orders in under 5 minutes. We sat in the open area dining room area with a good view of the porch and the beautiful pond surrounded by a beautiful pasture. Our food was absolutely amazing!! Food Review: Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail - giant chilled shrimp with a dollop of spicy cocktail sauce. This is sooooooo delicious!!!! Pecan Crusted Catfish - with Roasted Shallot Tartar Sauce and Steak Fries. A giant catfish filet, breaded and fried extra crispy with a flakey, moist center. So Delicious! The tartar sauce was ahhhhhmazing! Steak Fries - large fried Golden fried, need more seasoning. Mashed Potatoes - mashed with skin on, seasoned very well. Served family style. We just flew in from NY,v no reservation which is suggested but they gave us a table. The food was amazing! They really know how to serve a tender and tasty steak. Then the lobster tail was so yummy! Let's start with the good. Lots of servers making sure your table is clean, your drinks are full, and your finished dishes are cleared. Our server was very knowledgeable and obviously a huge fan of the establishment. The bread is out of this world. The steaks are incredibly tender and have good flavor, albeit a bit too salty. The views are gorgeous. Peaceful, very peaceful. It's the perfect setting for a lovely dinner away from the city. Those are my reasons for giving them stars. The thing is, I left feeling more disappointed than delighted. First, none of the sides, nor the salad or dessert had any wow factor. They were just okay. The mashed potatoes had a VERY strong garlic flavor. When I mentioned it to my husband, he said it must really have too much for me to say that because I love garlic. But this was overkill. As stated previously, the steak was over salted. On the other hand, the green beans and asparagus were bland. Now for our server. You see, when we go places people generally pay much more attention to my husband than they do to me. I'm used to that. He has a large, commanding presence, he's tall, and he's a true Texan through and through. But it's never happened to the extent that it happened tonight. She looked at him the entire time she covered the specials, while she talked about the history of the restaurant, and whenever she checked on us. It was so painfully obvious that it made me quite uncomfortable. Like, was I even there? Some other examples: I selected and ordered a bottle of wine. Generally, the bottle is presented to the person who ordered it to allow them to confirm that it's the same bottle they ordered and that the bottle's condition meets their expectations. Did that happen? Nope! She gave it it my husband, but being the gentleman he is and understanding proper wine rituals, he slid the glass to me. Also he was served both his salad and his entree before me. Standard fine dining etiquette calls for women to be served first. This is a mistake I would expect at a place like Chili's or Jason's Deli. But not at Four Winds. You see, it's the little things that set apart ordinary and extraordinary dining experiences. Our first visit to this highly praised steak house. It's quite a drive from our home and always difficult to get a reservation. You need to make one days or weeks in advance, so we were looking forward to going. The setting is in beautiful Texas pastureland, and a rustic home turned restaurant. We were very impressed with the friendly staff and service was excellent. It was a more casual atmosphere than we expected. The steaks were good but the chef had a bit of a heavy hand. Out of the four of us, three had their steaks over cooked. This is a nice place, but not certain why there's so much hype about it. I'd prefer Jack Ryan's in Kilgore over this. read more

What an absolutely incredible evening with the most awesome people at this wonderful restaurant . We celebrated a birthday there and the food was so awesome, I forgot to take more pictures This is a truly beautiful location , tucked away as a little surprise. We drove almost 90 minutes to get here but it was worth it. The goat cheese was so incredibly creamy with the crostini being the perfect level of crisp, without being too crunchy. If anybody wants to get me the lump crab cake recipe from here , feel free. Those crab cakes were so incredibly fresh and good, I'd volunteer to wash floors just to learn how to make them. Most of our party had steaks and each, was perfectly cooked and seasoned . The sides are family style and HUGE. I wanted to try them all but couldn't . I had this beautiful lobster tail served with drawn butter .... confession, it was so perfectly cooked- succulent, flavorful and moist that I didn't even notice the butter. Yup- it was THAT good. The portion was too large for me so I only ate just over half but one of my kids ate the rest I'm going to strongly suggest you stop by soon and see these awesome people and most especially, ask for Erica. She and the rest of the team were fantastic .... attentive without being intrusive and they knew the menu which is always a good thing. Four Winds is awesome! We were brought here for my birthday by my friends! About an hour east of Dallas, on a working ranch that used to belong to a Dallas Cowboy! This place is killer! Make sure you get here early enough to enjoy the view of the ranch! All of the food is prepared farm to table, including the meat! The steaks are simply put... incredible. We started with drinks, and appetizers. The Jumbo lumb crab cakes in remoulade sauce! So yummy! The shrimp in the salad were fresh, cold, and huge! I had the Ribeye. It was thick, full of flavor, and cooked perfectly! When you have killer grass-fed beef, all you really need is a little salt and pepper! My wife had the filet, and we shared. It was perfectly done from tip to tip, bright beautiful moist medium rare, and it simply melted in your mouth! My brother had the sugar cured bone-in pork chop, the size of your head! It was white and glistening, and perfectly seared! I'll admit, I judge a steakhouse on the creamed spinach! This place nailed it... creamy and luxurious in the mouth, without being drowned in sauce. Not overcooked, I could eat a bowl by myself. We also had fresh asparagus, potato mash, green beans and potatoes au gratin for the table family style. My husband and I enjoyed our meal here very much! We thought the ambience was wonderful; it's a very beautiful and clean place. The service was also fantastic. Our steaks were cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious, tender, and juicy, with the right amount of seasoning and caramelization. The only reason we give it four stars is because we think there could be more variety and sophistication with the sides, and the lobster tail we ordered was not worth the price, as it was slightly over cooked and dry. We arrived early,the bar was full so the hostess offered us a seat on the porch while she brought us a cocktail! We took a seat and waited as we listen to other patrons on their way out raving about the food. In no time we were seated in the main dinning room with window views of the lake. The food did not disappoint we had shrimp cocktail to start and salads. Mains were filets, I chose mine topped in horseradish and smoked goat cheese with mash and cream corn to share. A nice country setting away from the city. We went for dinner and dessert. I didn't give 5 stars because they have a little room for improvement. First, the Caesar salad had a strange flavor I could not identify. Didn't finish. The sides are very generous portions so you can definitely share. The creamed spinach was good. The au gratin potatoes were a bit undercooked. The steaks were fabulous, good bark and flavor. Don't skip those if you go. The cheesecake was very good too, similar to a family recipe we enjoy. This review is not about the food. The large ribeye and pecan fish were both delicious. Ashely did a great job as our server in a very comfortable and log cabin-like setting. The problem was the heat. It was so warm in the restaurant it was somewhat hard to enjoy our food. Two fans ran above offering little relief. My poor husband was sweating. We talked with Ashley but she politely said there was nothing she could do and offered no explanation. The bathrooms were nice and cool. What a great dining experience! It started with a beautiful setting. This restaurant sits on a gorgeous Texas ranch. You can't make a reservation online and anyone that says otherwise was payed to say so. Their hours of operation is evidently nowhere near the phone that is listed on the website to make a reservation since there is permanent technical error with there reservation portion of their page. I'm highly disappointed because I have talked all year leading up to my grandfather's birthday about how much I looked forward to dropping a minimum $200 just on crab cakes. The atmosphere and and setting make this place perfect for anything! The food and service are ALWAYS hands down 5-star! The 6oz filet is perfect medium well charred on the outside sorry I like mine cooked. The spinach is always perfect and the scalloped potatoes are excellent. My husband loved his bone in ribeye. Service was very attentive. Prices were very fair for the quality and quantity. I'd go back if I were in the neighborhood but it's pretty far from Dallas. The view of the lake is pretty cool, and beautiful if you catch the sunset.
