Juan showed up on time and ready to work. We thought we had a slab leak but Juan determined the leak was in the wall, running down and soaking the slab. He neatly broke into the wall and found that a pipe fastener, installed when the house was built in the 60s, had nicked the copper pipe. I was referred to Fox Plumbing by Honest Water Filter Company as one of their authorized system installers. I made an appointment to get an estimate for water filtration system. They said they needed to send a technician over and then they would be able to provide an estimate for their system. One of the technicians came a few days later and took some measurements, photos, evaluated the site, etc. At the end of the appointment he said there is a $139.00 fee. I was surprised by that as I was not aware that there would be a fee for an estimate. Had I known that I would have to pay a fee I would have never made an appointment. I paid the fee and after he left I contacted the office. The lady I talked to apologize because she said the technician did not know not to charge the fee because they are the ones who initiated the on-site evaluation and once they start the work they will deduct fee from the final price. Well, the technician came on 3/2, I paid the fee of $139.00 on 3/2 and today is 3/18 and I still have no estimate. So I contacted the office to refund the fee since I decided to go with on other company (2 other company's came over and gave FREE estimates). I was told by the young lady in the office that she remembers talking to me weeks ago and specifically remembers telling me that there is a fee for a technician to come out. She also said that they were getting ready to email an estimate this week as the person, who I assume is responsible for working on estimate, was on vacation and was not able to get it done sooner. Also, they stated that they will not to be able to refund the fee especially now since I decided to go with another company. I asked to talk to the owner and I was told he is not available but that they will leave a message to call me back. I won't hold my breath! Beware. This is not how business should be conducted. It seems that they are just milking me for whatever $ they can get. There are plenty of other honest options available. Don't waste your time or money. read more

I've used Fox for my residential and business and they are top notch. They are professional and are great at communicating. In the past some of the issues I've had with plumbing is poor communication, rescheduling, and tick tac add on fees. i had pressure regs and shut off valves installed 9 months ago. xlnt work then. however of no fault to fox or employee, a pvc fitting recently failed. i called for a warranty repair and anthony (awesome guy) came and repaired beautifully and even upgraded from sch 40 to sch 80 fittings. another xlnt job. they ain't cheap but they do xlnt work. i'll continue to use them as needed. john read more

I've been a customer for Steve Fox Plumbing for nearly 15 years. I always thought he was fair and honest. However, I just moved to a new property and needed a pressure reducer replaced at my new house. Just to come and quote me, it was $140.... (Usually, this cost goes towards the repair; apparently not this time!) Then, his technician wanted $400 to replace the pressure reducing valve, claiming he had to put new unions in. (The unions didn't need replacing, they had no corrosion and that's not standard practice to replace them!) He also wanted another $400 for the actual part. In total it was $940, (almost $1,000) to replace a valve that costs $235 and is connected with unions. Steve may be honest, but his workers are not! He lost a life-long loyal customer. Eastlake Plumbing replaced the valve in no-time and charged me $150 for the labor. (I provided them with the valve that cost $235). I used to recommend Steve Fox Plumbing; now just go somewhere else! -Disappointed read more

Terrible experience. These guys appear quite professional and knowledgeable, but they really don't know what they're doing. Here's what they did for us: We were adding a new powder room to our house and wanted a toilet and sink put in. This requires sewage and water. Here's a list of what they screwed up and how it started falling apart days, weeks and month after job was done: 1. They "forgot" to put in pipe flashing on the vent pipe that exists the roof. So a few weeks after installation the first rain, and our roof started leaking!! Damaged ceiling and made a mess. We called them, they came in and fixed it but never mentioned a word about fixing damaged ceiling nor apologized. Super cold and rude... as if they were inconvenienced for having to come back! 2. A few months later we started getting mold building up behind the toilet tank. This is because they piped the toilet so close to the wall the tank actually touches the dry wall and the moisture eventually caused mold to build up behind the lid. Nothing can be done about this unless you rip everything out and re-do your tiles and etc... UNBELIEVABLE! 3. A few weeks ago we found out we have had a slow leak from the bottom of the same said toilet. Called in another plumber who took the toilet off... wow, what a mess!!! Turns out there was a 1/4" gap between toilet and the wax rings. So little by little water was getting out. Anyhow. Horrible experience doing such a simple job. I would hate to see how these guys handle a more complicated job. read more

Shame on you Steve Fox Plumbing! I have used this company before on a few occasions and was very pleased with both service and pricing. As a female I felt comfortable that they were a company that I could trust to give me a fair quote and a good assessment of the problem. I even referred them to my Grandmother yesterday who had plumbing work done by the company! This morning Steve Fox plumbing dispatched Larry over for a simple garbage disposal replacement and was quoted $420 for a 1/2 horse power disposal and labor. I felt that to be excessive as I know I could go to Home Depot and price out this disposal unit for $100. I would ASSUME that Steve Fox plumbing has even better price points and could obtain it cheaper with their company's purchasing power. So in essence they were asking me to pay $320 for 1 hour worth of labor, IF it took THAT LONG! When questioned Larry pulled out the pricing book and showed me the chart. I was shocked. I then asked how much it would be if I provided the garbage disposal to him.......the quote, $180. So Steve Fox Plumbing is trying to essentially charge $140 MORE in Labor if THEY provide the disposal. That is price gouging at it's best and I no longer trust what I felt was once a reputable company. They have lost my business and referrals forever! The only bright spot is Larry, who was really great and just quoting from the Steve Fox Plumbing book of inflated prices. Larry should be the one receiving the difference, but I sent him on his way and will find another company to do business with. read more

I have been using Fox Plumbing ever since I moved to San Diego 10 years ago. My father always told me to hold onto a plumber when I found a reliable one so that is exactly what I did. Steve has been in the plumbing business his entire life, and so was his family before him. When someone has been dealing with crap their entire life, no pun intended, you know they can handle any plumbing problem. My latest experience with Fox was a good one as usual. My daughter had dropped her ring down the kitchen drain and I did not have the tools to take apart the pipe. I called Fox and Andrea, the dispatcher, picked up and immediately sent out John to get the ring out. John showed up shortly after and had the pipe apart and the ring back on my daughters finger in about 10 minutes. Can't beat service like that. I'm very, very late in submitting this review. I hired Steve Fox Plumbing in December 2013 to install a tankless water heater and whole-house filtration & softener system. As a disabled vet, I suffer from chronic ear infections caused by Staph bacteria in our tap water. My ear specialist felt that if I did this filtration system, it would go a long way to preventing the infections. I decided my little remaining hearing was worth the investment and started doing some research. I purchased the systems myself after months of research. Steve had no issue with that..he was happy to install what I had purchased, even though I didn't buy the appliances from him. I felt he was genuinely more interested in my comfort and well-being than he was in the minimal mark-up he would do on the appliances had I purchased them from him.. Steve was the third plumbing contractor I had out to the house to give me an estimate. The others gave me estimates, but spent more time bragging themselves up on other jobs they had done rather than give me the attention to details that I wanted. I knew I had a tricky situation on my hands with 1/2" piping and new appliances that required 3/4" inlets on a house that just hit 50 years old. (I know enough about plumbing to be dangerous, but not enough to be professional.) The other guys didn't even bother to take measurements and told me everything they thought I wanted to hear and came in with some really good numbers....numbers that were very tempting. Steve came out on a Saturday morning because I just couldn't take time off from work. He spent 2 1/2 hours , VERY METICULOUSLY, taking measurements and assessing everything he thought he would have to affect to do this install for me. He spoke very directly, gave me recommendations he felt would be beneficial, and gave me some cheaper alternative ideas....even though he'd not yet completed his estimate. Steve's estimate was not the cheapest. As a business manager, I completely understand the costs of doing business...labor, insurance, overhead, profit margin, etc. He was not the cheapest, but he was the most thorough. He offered me alternatives, and recommendations. I HIRED HIM ON THE SPOT....though I had only asked for an estimate. The simple fact that he was SOOO meticulous in his assessment, very up front about his services, and NOT ONCE did he try to 'brag' about his work....he told me of similar jobs and the solutions he used. He kept the whole morning professional, yet very friendly, and I was completely confident that he would not come back to me half-way through the job and start to 'nickel and dime' me to death. He and Pat (great guy!) started the following Monday. It was a huge job....as I knew it would be...but they tackled it with enthusiasm. They laid down their own throw rugs so as not to soil my floors (like I could tell the difference!). They were very respectful of my neighbors ensuring they did not intrude on parking and noise, and gave me a daily brief on their progress. Me being without water, for even an hour, was completely unacceptable to them. They ensured that I had all the comforts I needed each day when they left, even if it meant staying for several hours after shift to get to that point. When they finished the job, with the exception of the new appliances and water lines, you could not tell they had even been on the place. INCREDIBLY THOROUGH and VERY SENSITIVE to you as a home-owner. One more thing that just 'hooked' me on Steve Fox Plumbing: I had Steve install an in-wall washing machine hookup with drain. I mentioned to him that I have had osteo-arthritis in my hands since I was a kid but as I get older, I am continually losing strength in my hands. Shut off valves are very difficult for me. I have no strength left in my hands to turn them to seal them off...it's incredibly difficult. I told him I wanted quarter-turn valves installed so I could turn them off quickly. No problem, he did that. It wasn't until a few weeks later that I realized that he had changed out my hose spickets to quarter turn valves as well I didn't ask him to do it, he just did it....he looked around to see what he could do to help me....at no charge...and just took care of it. He has no idea what that means to me. After this long diatribe, I just want to convey that this a small, family company with a lot of heart. The bottom line is not their end goal....it's you. Thank you, Steve, and Pat, and Becky....you are now 'my' plumbers who get the only call when I need help. HONESTY.....INTEGRITY.....OUTSTANDING SERVICE.....that is what you can expect from STEVE FOX PLUMBING. read more

We used  Fox Plumbing after getting bids from 3 other competitors for a full house repipe, water heater replacement and replacing a significant section of cast iron under adjoining bathrooms. Fox was the only one to not try to dissuade us from using permits. They took to the time to hear our concerns, answer every single one of our questions in a very detailed manner helped guide us in picking the right products for our needs and were very patient with us. We found their prices fair, and they worked with us on the change orders, and were respectful of our budget. We took advantage of their financing option (will update this post if needed), which helped give us the confidence and the option to make adjustments on the fly. We worked mainly with Steve throughout the quoting process, planning and with regards to scope changes. Fernando and Ryan were the main onsite crew, and worked some long hours to get the job done in the agreed on timeframe, despite some unexpected surprises. They did their best to be accommodating and were very easy to work with. They kept me up to date, were professional, and there were no problems that they didn't solve. We plan on using Fox in the near future to complete the cast iron removal and for some additional smaller plumbing needs. read more

A clog is no fun, but a toilet clog is gross and disgusting. In a perfect world I would never need assistance with this issue, but in my older home, it comes with the territory. My man that saves the day from this plumbing place, is a true professional. Steve Fox Plumbing-License#789831 I have filed a formal complaint regarding the business practices and harassment by Steve Fox Plumbing. Inexperienced plumbers came to my house and for over 3 hours "worked" on a clogged shower drain and leaky faucet. They never spoke with me, the tenant, or the landlord regarding what they were repairing, the cost, absolutely no quote. The 2 plumbers told me they were done and walked out to their truck as I chased after them asking what they did and if I could receive an invoice. One of the plumbers flipped through his book and said he would bill the landlord later. The price - over $500 for work that was never authorized and additional repairs that were not needed. I offered to pay 1/2 for the work that I could see was in line with the reason for the initial call, and they responded by threatening to put a lien on the house for $187.00! The 4 months of email correspondence with the office manager were the most unprofessional and unreasonable communications I have ever had in my life. Such unethical behavior for a company we had used twice before. Beware! read more

I have been a client for a long time now... must be about 10 years. I have had consistently excellent service. My most recent repair was last week. The condo water main had to be turned off. The plumber was capable and the repairs were completed in a timely fashion. However, I was most impressed that he spoke with a neighbor who was irritated about the water issue himself. Now, the signs had been posted for 72 hours, but she had forgotten and had her dishwasher running. I offered to go and chat with her, but he insisted and handled her with sympathy and kindness. These guys are great, and here's why. If you need a drain cleaned you need a drain cleaner more than you need an experienced plumber, so call a drain cleaner service. If you need something installed by a Handyman, call one and you won't need to pay plumber prices. But if you need someone to puzzle out your plumbing problem and fix it right, you need to call Steve Fox. They are knowledgeable, experienced, and trustworthy plumbers. They know the history and quirks of local buildings, and also codes and permits. They even do a great job of cleaning up their messes! I have used their services for several years to take care of problems (and mysteries) of my nearly 100-year-old house. They keep information so they know about my house and property, and how things are. I trust them. So here's the thing. Their prices are in line with other experienced plumbers. You wouldn't call an experienced auto mechanic to install your new license plate unless you expected to pay the regular hourly rates. It's the same with plumbers, so call Steve Fox Plumbing when you really need a plumber. read more

My experience with Steve Fox Plumbing was FANTASTIC!! I recently purchased a mobile home and needed to bring a few things up to code...like a gas shut off valve INSIDE the laundry area and strapping my hot water heater. I also wanted to replace the plastic dryer venting (is that right?) and have rigid metal instead. Well, it is not easy working in very limited space and Steve was not only able to reroute the gas line he put the shut off right where I wanted it. He also changed out some rusty pipe and put in new gas line all around. I could not be more satisfied with his work. He explained everything he did and showed me some things about my water heater that I would not have known. The final cost was a bit higher than the original quote but I did not mind because I know the job was done professionally and accurately. You get what you pay for and I can rest easy knowing that the work Steve and his helper John did is top notch. read more
