I feel deceived. I contacted Frahler by email to get a quote on a lighting install. The $200 coupon on their website was definitely an incentive to go with them, too! Adam quickly replied and told me they charge about $170 per light. After I asked if they also charge an hourly rate in addition to that, he replied with: "The $170/light is actually a budget. We bill for this type of work on a time and material basis at $185 for the 1st hour, with one direction travel time included in that 1st hour, and $123/hr after the 1st. The more lights there are and the easier the installation the cheaper the cost per light. The $170/light is the upper end of what the costs will be." I specifically called him to clarify that time AND materials was part of the $185 + $123/hour, and that there would be no additional charges. He told me yes, that's right, that's the total cost. I would only have to pay extra for the dimmer switch I wanted. I scheduled an appointment, and the electrician got here on time (about 10 mins early, in fact. I'm about 20 minutes from the business). He had all the necessary parts/equipment. He was done in 3 hours and I was happy with the job done. A couple weeks later, I got the bill. It was higher than I expected based on my calculations and what Adam told me. Instead of it being about $500, it was $632. Labor and materials were itemized on the receipt. After I questioned it, I realized that they'd taken advantage of me being a layman and not understanding that "time and materials" was the terminology used for a type of contract in which materials would be billed separately. Also, a "budget" did not mean an "average" as I read it within the context of his explanation. Adam admitted that he took for granted that I'd understand what he meant and that he should've been more clear (this is why I had called to clarify!). I would assume that they would know better, that they should be able to better explain their billing practices to their customers when asked. This made me feel like they purposely take advantage of their customers just not understanding enough. I read some similar reviews while shopping around, which is why I tried doing my due diligence to clarify as much as possible before agreeing to go with them. If it hadn't been for the misinformation provided upfront, this would've been a 5 star review. Honesty is very important to me. Disappointing. read more

Working with Frahler was such a positive experience. They communicated every step of the way clearly and worked with my schedule to get someone out much sooner than other shops in town. Alan provided excellent service. He was punctual, knowledgable, and super friendly. I was curious to learn a little bit more about electrical work so he explained the process and the rationale behind what he was doing. Cons: 1. Showed up 4 hours late and I received no calls from the business letting me know they'd be late, in fact I called 3 times to confirm someone would show up. 2. Company did not explain that their billing includes travel time from one job to another. Because electrician was late, traveling during rush hour and coming from a job across town -- yikes! 3. Electrician was on site 30 minutes to install an outlet behind the stove (previously hard wired to appliance) and we were charged $318! Pro: 1. Frailer electric is the best company I have ever worked with. I called them up with an emergency. They call me right back and then sent the guy out to fix the problem at my home. Excellent service, all the way from getting a quote to the finished work. Adam probably spent an hour of his time on the phone and over email working with us while we set up the details of the job. He helped us make a game plan for some of our electrical questions, and took the time to explain how things are typically done and what we could expect. On the day of work, the workers arrived right on schedule and set to work. They worked quickly and efficiently and even swapped out some ceiling lights that they had a better version of. Contrary to other reviews, our final bill came in below what we were quoted. Our job was on the larger side (several thousand $) so maybe some of these costs that other reviews are referring to were rolled up into that and we weren't aware. With the $200 coupon from their website, the job came in lower than what we had gotten quoted from other companies, so overall we don't have any issue with the pricing. Maybe if it were a small job it would have been more of an issue. The only negatives were: 1) they left a lot of garbage behind, such as stripped wire sheathing, pieces of ground wire, bits of paper, staples, etc. I understand it's a work site but we did have to spend 30 minutes after they left cleaning everything up. 2) They didn't include outlet and switch covers for all of the outlets they installed. They only left behind about half of them. We called and left a message with the guy who did the work, but he never got back to us. We ended up buying the covers, which wasn't too expensive, but considering they gave us half the outlet covers we didn't expect to have to buy the rest of them ourselves. Overall though, for the time that was given up front thoroughly explaining the job, and the speed and work they did on the day-of, I would 100% use them again for electrical jobs. read more

Frahler Electric was very thorough from the first phone call to the final cleanup for an outdoor ceiling fan and Bromic heater installation. The gentlemen that came to my house were very knowledgeable and very courteous when answering all my questions. The final product I couldn't be happier with. Very aesthetically pleasing--which I definitely wanted to complete my covered patio area! I highly recommend Frahler for any and all Eletrical work! read more

I should have looked up more reviews as I see the same issue in some of the other reviews. I was told the first hour rate was $170 and each subsequent hour $119. No mention of travel time, so my bill was an added $119 for travel to my house, 15 minutes from their office. They tell me that they really try to tell everyone that they charge for travel time, but based off of similar reviews....they don't. Work was well done, but while I was impressed with the work and the friendliness of the electrician sent to my house, I was also paying for the friendly chit chat while he was at my house. I was satisfied with the work, but ultimately feel like I was tricked into paying more than agreed upon. read more

The basis for this review is not the quality of work, but rather, the fees that are charged. When requesting service I was told the first hour rate was $170 and each subsequent hour $119. I was not told I would be paying for the electrician's drive time to get to my house. (Frahler is 3.9 miles from my home, yet I was charged an entire hour to get here, which was the time it took for the electrician to come from the previous appointment. I can't imagine if he had been at the coast!) You are also charged time for running to get parts, consultation and the time it takes to process the paperwork. Electrician arrived at 9:50 and started work at 10am. Left to get parts (a GFI outlet--and they don't carry these in their van???) and was gone over an hour. I apparently also paid for his lunch period. End of service call was 2 pm. My bill after a $200 coupon from the IBEW, was $377. I was charged 4 hours and $60 for parts. He was onsite less than 3 hours. I called and spoke with the owner today. Nice man, but stood by the charges. Electrical work is a specialty trade, and I get it. I don't believe it's right to charge the client for travel time or lunch periods. I also believe I was overcharged on parts, but have no evidence to substantiate that given the bill does not provide an itemization of drive time, versus labor, versus parts. I have been a valued source of referrals this past year given a home remodel both inside and out. Unfortunately, Frahler will not be getting my business, nor my friends and neighbors. read more

I'm a real estate agent, and used them to inspect some work for a homeowner. I specified to the contractor what the scope of work that needed to be done. He did not inspect all the items I requested. I talked to the manager, and he said they should have asked for the inspection report to have a list of the items to be inspected, which they did not. I asked if they could go back out to reinspect, since they made the mistake. He told me that it's after hours, and they would have to charge me more for the reinspect. To me, they should have done the reinspection at no cost, since they made the mistake. My career is based on serving others to gain future referrals. This company, and the way they treated me, shows that they do not care for referrals or their clients. Just my experience, but it speaks volumes to their company values. read more

Although the service person arrived almost 2 hours late, he quickly went to work and completed the repair in less than 30 minutes. It was a simple thing, but without the proper equipment, difficult to diagnose. He was helpful and friendly and since he finished early, fixed another minor problem. I would recommend them, but make sure you have A broad window of time to wait for them. read more

Outstanding Electric Company, exceeded all expectations. I submitted my residential electric project to several electricians including to Frahler via email. The project was numbered, outlined and had photos. Within a few hours Frahler electric replied with an estimate and proposal that was more than sufficient considering it was via email. The other companies either did not reply or did not seem interested. I scheduled my project with Frahler a couple of weeks out per their lead time. The Electrician showed up at 7:30am on time in a company outfitted van. The electrician, Andrew, was totally professional, experienced and licensed. He proceed to accomplish all the tasks with diligence, always asking me to confirm or with questions. The project took a day and a half including installing new ceiling lights, in-wall interior switches, light fixtures, and exterior lights and switches. All work was outstanding, safe and to code. There invoice came in the mail a couple of weeks later that was simple and exactly as expected. Frahler Electric gets my top rating and is highly recommended for residential customers who have well defined prepared projects and who want a top quality professional electric company. read more
