Fralo's is THE best pizza we have ever put in our mouths. My husband and I stumbled on it when looking for places to eat in San Antonio. The quinoa crust caught our eye so we decided to check it out on our vacation. We were there around 3:30 and we welcomed warmly by Amanda. She let us choose our seating and we picked a shady spot outside. We ordered a caprese salad for appetizer. The pesto was out of this world. The cheese and tomato were also incredible. As our main dish, we chose the quinoa crust with the pick 4 sampler option: Lorfa's five cheese, Grant's pear, nutty chicken, and spanako. They did not disappoint! All four were delicious! My favorite was Lorfa's five. My husband's favorite was Grant's pear. We were so pleased with our visit to Fralo's. It is a highlight of our vacation. Brought my family from out-of-state last night for a party of 11. I was told it may be a long wait and wasn't guaranteed a table - "kitchen may close before table is ready." My family and I waited in the parking lot and decided to order in case table wasn't ready. We were called about 25 minutes later, but when I mentioned our order, was told we couldn't eat in per "policy." I asked if they could make an exception since we intended to dine-in and were waiting. Family and I stood there unable to sit, then the manager approached us saying they'd allow a one time exception because "people tend to stiff the waiting staff." Unfortunately, it became awkward, and our waiter seemed to rush us out. Half way through our meal he said we needed to be checked out and pay, and he never came back. We still tipped over 20% btw. Fralo's has such an amazing atmosphere - perfect for a large group. I went with a group of 20 and our server split checks in a very organized manner. I love the $10 cork fee which allows us to bring our favorite wine to pair with dinner. We got the sampler pizza and all 4 flavors were AMAZING. Really good food, but it doesn't matter because you won't be able to enjoy it due to the completely unforgivable service. We waited 1hr 15mins for our food after ordering. At no point did our server provide us with any update or any indication that anything was wrong. Nope, 1hr+ was business as usual, it seemed. In fact, there was a 30 min period where we were completely ignored. Our order was placed wrong. Instead of an apology, or any real attempt to make it right, we were given a cold cup of the missing topping. They were out of, not joking, about half of their advertised tap selections. There was no attempt to warn of these circumstances when it was clear that everyone was ordering this type of beverage. Just roadblocks any time we tried to order something that was out. I am more in love with this place for the atmosphere, than I am for the food. It's a very laid back bad ass kind of place where you can (and should) sit outdoors with some friends and family, listen to great local music drifting to you from a tiny stage, and eat some grub. It's BYOB (wine and beer) so that's cool in my book, however they charge a corking fee per bottle of wine, so if you are a beer gal/guy, bring that instead, and save some dough...haha...get it...dough....it's a pizza place...ok...well...ahem...anywhoo... Ok...back to Fralos....so the pizza, I didn't find to be all that great. They have some pretty crazy specialty pies, but everything seemed to be rather pricey for some not so astounding pizza. It was just ok to me, and by my husband's standard of "it will make a turd" it lives up, but I was hoping for something a little tastier...not so bland I guess. Great idea, really crappy execution. My wife and I went here last night. 15 minutes after being seated, we had to go ask the hostess for a waiter. An hour and a half later we kept getting the "your pizza's in the oven, 5 more minutes" stories...every 5 minutes. The 2-top next to us had been waiting even longer. When the waiter gave them the same story for the 3rd time they finally asked to see the manager, to which their server replied, "honestly, he's busy, he doesn't have time for you." We couldn't believe our ears. It's a huge outdoor area, but they don't have anything close to enough servers or cooks to deal with that capacity. I have been coming to Fralos for over 5 years and their pizza is always delicious. I almost always get the "lil hottie". I went today and when I looked at it it had shredded chicken on it. I thought they made a mistake because it always comes with spicy Italian sausage not shredded chicken. Well I was very disappointed. The server was very nice and remade a fresh pizza with sausage. Over rated! I came here last night with a group of friends. The atmosphere was wonderful with mood lighting, and live music. That being said, the pizza was just OK, nothing special and be prepared to get bitten by mosquitos. PRICE: Specialty pizzas range from $23 to $27. My friend and I opted to make our own (we are students and are on a budget) they charge $1.50 for each topping on a medium size pizza. We ended up paying $18 for a mediocre two topping medium pizza. TASTE: The taste of the pizza was comparable to any chain, nothing special. Although they do offer a variety of toppings. SERVICE: I know others commented on the excessive wait time, it took 60 minutes for our pizza to come out, but we didn't mind because we were with a large group of friends. However the quality of servers is lacking, the servers only asked people who were drinking beer if they wanted refills, the server never once refilled my glass of water and I was there for over 3 hours. My suggestion for pizza would be Romes pizza where you can get a medium 5 topping tasty pizza for $13.50, that's with tax. My suggestion to the owners for this place would be to lower your prices. I understand you have a good atmosphere but seriously that's pretty expensive for so so pizza. Also for the prices you charge please invest in some anti-mosquito/ant control. My issue lies in the fact that when my boyfriend and I had finished our meal and were relaxing drinking the last of our wine we were told "can you go drink over there" pointing to rocks outside the eating area. Now had it been crowded and people were waiting for our table, or if we were being loud or demanding on the wait staff I would have kinda understood. However, there there 3 tables open around us, we were just talking and were not asking anything of the waitstaff. Due to this issue we will not go back and have found better pizza at BJ's that also serves great beer. I've been a loyal customer of Fralo's for several years. I make a habit of bringing new customers out to experience what I believe to be the best relaxed and fun environment to just gel with friends. We always bring a few bottles of great wine and order a variety of pies to share. Frank and Lori will usually stop by and chat for a few minutes, time permitting, which is nice. Our servers have almost always been very nice, mostly attentive, and willing to adapt to our downward spiral of needs as we drink into the night. My only complaint has been the desserts, and being the tiramisu snob that I am, my heart is broken that a top-tier selection has never been available. It's best to go on nights that hover in the 60's with clear skies. Blankets are available and companions can offer group warmth, too. I've been here twice, and I was a huge fan the first time for a number of reasons: the server was very friendly; we brought our own wine; we ordered from the more expensive Specialty Pizza menu (that pizza was far better than the Classic Pizza (a little lacking in flavor in the sauce) we ordered this time). This time around, it took a while to be initially waited on, the server was not friendly, didn't refill waters or really check on us at all and even presented the check before asking if we wanted anything else. Great whiskey barrel beer but BJ's has a similar beer but half the price. Indoor seating only has 4 tables. Pizza was very expensive, very gross and not very filling. Our veggie pizza was burned and tasted like formaldehyde. Not a lot of toppings. Gross pizza. Pro's: super waitress, kinda neat outside seating (the redneck trucks on the small road 200 feet away were annoying), great beer selection (very pricey beer.). I would never eat here again. I have been a fan of Fralo's since they opened. Fraols is good on the weekends, week nights, anytime really. In the past I was at Fralo's nearly once a week or so, now life has become busier and I cant make it as frequent but when I do, i am never dissapointed. What do I love about this place? Okay, I am re-writing my review after a recent visit and downgrading this place. I will start with the only reason it got a four which is that I really liked the outdoor atmosphere here and the fact that it's byob. Almost all of the seating is outdoor at tables with wooden benches and there are trees all around and a live band. Food: We sat inside cause I was starving and didn't want to wait 45 min for a table. The ground along with our table, pizza dish, and wine glasses shook every time the waitresses walked by (which was often).We got a brushetta app that was not so hot. Warm bread with tons of cold sliced tomatoes on top and the whole thing has been drenched in balsamic vinegar. Just waay to sour tasting to me. The sampler pizza is good for something different (really liked the one with bacon and potato as well as the one with chicken and nuts). Another time, I got the margherita which had waay too little sauce. I remembered liking their apple pie a la mode but, after ordering it found it to be utterly average. The bill came out to be about 55 dollars for a pizza (23), 5 dollar corking fee, 8 dollar appetizer, and 8 dollar desert. I guess I just prefer pizza with lots of cheese and lots of sauce and this place just makes all sorts of artsy and pretty good but, not great pizzas. Different yes, great no. read more
