I really enjoy the atmosphere at Fralo's. Food is very good, but I've noticed the quality of pizza is a bit hit or miss. First time I went here I had grant's pear pizza and it was incredible! Second time I got the pear pizza it was alright, balance of ingredients was a bit off compared to first time. I've had the same issue with the What the Duck pizza. With how high the price of pizza is here, I expect more consistency. read more

My wife and I stopped by for a late lunch today, and Wow! What a treat! Crisp, handmade crust with fresh, flavorable toppings beg for return trips. We'll be back, probably with friends and family. We ate inside, but there's a lovely outdoor picnic-style seating area with a small stage for live music. We can't tell you what to like, but you should. Like it, that is. (We don't drink, but they appear to have a good selection of draft beer.) read more

If 0 stars was an option I'd choose it. When we first arrived, we were directed to sit at a table under their outside tent only to be told we needed to get up from our table and visit the hostess stand because the table we sat at was reserved for a party. Of course we understood and as we made our way to the hostess she rudely scolded us for not stopping with her first and then moved us to a table right next to the one we were previously seated at. After 15 minutes of waiting on a server to come and take our drink order (none of them even glanced our way and were solely focused on waiting on the party that was seated in the same room as us) a waitress that was not serving our section finally noticed our waves and took it upon herself to make sure we were helped. She ended up being the only one who even attempted to come by our table at all for the remainder of the evening. Thank you Mandy. We put our order in at 6:20, expecting a bit of a wait due to a disclaimer on the menu saying that it takes a longer amount of time for the quality, but we did not expect to wait as long as we did. At 7:30 the firsts of our food arrived. 3 people in our group were served first and attacked their pizzas which normally would have received a 4 or 5 star review. The other 3 of us got to sit and watch. At 7:45 I finally received my dinner, which was supposed to be chicken rigatoni and cream sauce.. Yet I received tortellini with chicken in their tomato-Alfredo sauce. It was fine. I was too hungry to bother asking any questions. We had asked a few times when our friends might be receiving their food and "it's coming" was the popular answer. At 7:53, another single dish was brought out - tortellini that was actually ordered. Again, it was fine. It wasn't until 8:00 that the very last meal was brought out and the majority of our table had already finished. Throughout that entire time our water glasses were refilled once. It was very obvious to us that only the reserved party was getting any sort of good service. We also asked 3 different employees that the heaters please be turned back on in their outside patio (they turned them off about 30 mins into our wait) because it was windy and cold but that was never done either. My son was home from college for spring break so we wanted to go somewhere fun with good food. Our mistake-we went to Fralo's. When we first arrived, there was some confusion over where to go since there is no clearly marked entrance or hostess stand. When we did find the unmanned hostess stand, a server eventually came by and told us to sit wherever we wanted. The outdoor seating area is cute-rustic tables under a large tent-and plentiful. There was a two man band playing that was pretty good but so loud we had to scream at each other or just play on our phones the whole meal. Then the waiting began. It was fairly busy, but not a full house. We had to wait for menus, we had to wait about 15-20 minutes to put our drink orders in-and then they never came. We eventually flagged down the owner, and he was more interested in finding out who our server was (his wife, as it turns out) then going and getting our drinks. So we waited some more in the deafening tent. We placed our orders-two pizzas, the baked goat cheese tapenade appetizer (as an entree) and a chicken Caesar salad (as an entree). The chicken Caesar salad came out a good 30 minutes before everyone's meal, even though we told our server it was for dinner. He even came by and noted that the kitchen screwed up, but didn't offer to fix it. The salad was pathetic-little crumbles of chicken and lots and lots of lettuce. Then came the baked goat cheese tapenade, again supposed to be an entree, well ahead of the other two diner's entrees. Do yourself a favor and skip this dish. It was literally melted cheese, with chopped olives on the side, not even mixed in. No flavor, no tapenade. Just a hunk of cheese. Again, the server eventually came by and noted the kitchen screwed up the timing, but did nothing to help. They never came around to refill our drinks, and even though there was plenty of room to maneuver around our table, the wait staff kept bumping into us every time they passed by. Two hours later, we had to hunt down the owner to get the check-and guess what-no discount, nothing to rectify the two hours we will never get back. Should have trusted my gut and left when it took 30 minutes just to get a water. I have no idea why this establishment is rated so high. The pizza was good, but the horrible service and total lack of care by the owners doesn't make up for that. Maybe there just aren't a lot of pizza options on that side of town? read more

I have been to Fralo's many times over the years. The quality of the food and service have been declining significantly. I have now had dinner there for the last time. The quality of the food is very poor and the service is extremely slow. I kindly pointed these issues out to the manager who was very defensive. There are many great places to eat in San Antonio and up I-10 ... Fralo's is no longer one of them. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

Time and time again this place disappoints. The service is worse than horrible. We waited half an hour for a check at the end of the meal and finally had to go inside and ask for it. Then they didnt even bring it out to us. We had to go back inside and ask again! Its way over priced for what you get. One thin crust pizza should never cost $26!! This place is totally off the list. Great little pizza place, my first time trying this place out, relaxed environment, friendly staff. Loved the outdoor patio area, noticed they are pet friendly can't wait to come back with my pup. I started off with the tomato basil Bruchetta, it was good, not great. The arancini was mediocre, not enough flavor. I also ordered the lorfa's five with anchovies, loved it, the cheesy pizza with the salty anchovies was a great combo. Overall I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for some good pizza maybe not so much the appetizers. read more

We give it five stars for two reasons one is that the ambiance is one of a kind and the service has always been great. The other reason is my husband needs gluten free dough and we have made the rounds across the country in search of decent gluten free pizza and by far Fralos has the better tasting one. Fralo's is by far one of the best places to throw any sort of dinner party. A girlfriend and I hosted an engagement party for our dear friends and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. From the beginning, Lori and Frank were extremely helpful as with all of their staff - so friendly and willing to go any extra mile to make your experience smooth and enjoyable. Everything from the pizza to the wine to the music was absolutely FABULOUS. We even received a complimentary dessert at the end of the night - great people. There is no doubt that Fralos probably has the best tasting pizza in town. We have been going there for years. I can deal with the fact that its probably the most expensive pizza in town and I can even deal with the limited parking. However what upsets me is the $7.00 per bottle cork fee. Then they added a $10.00 "cake fee" for taking a cake to celebrate my sons birthday. So on top of ordering a 2 large pizzas and 3 appetizers, they added $38.00 for opening 4 bottles of wine and a cake fee. I will absolutely think twice about going back to celebrate anything there. read more

We ordered tonight and received 2 pizzas with burnt crust bottoms and one with raw vegetables (zucchini blah) on top. This may be my last time patronizing them as there are much better pizza places. This place is great! It is a little out of the way from the mainland of San Antonio but it's well worth it. I loved the pizza! In my opinion, it was better than Grimaldis, although a little more pricy. The ambience was very nice and peaceful, and they had a live performer, which was very mellow and not too loud. ( I have been to some restaurants that had live performers be too loud, which would eventually get irritating and annoying). My family were able to enjoy the music, while still maintaining a conversation. The only complaint I have is that they had ran out of pasta, and we went in the middle of the day, around 4:00 pm. For an Italian restaurant, that shouldn't happen. Especially since my mom isn't a big fan of pizza, it was a bit of a let down that she had to settle for just a salad. read more

While Fralo's has a unique dining experience, the quality of the food and staff was underwhelming. The staff was not terribly responsive and it took a long time to get our drink orders in, especially considering it's an outside establishment and the middle of a Texas summer! Additionally, the pizza is overpriced. I was recently at Keste in Manhattan and the price at Fralo's was higher than in the middle of NYC! I ordered several gf pizzas (10in and at extra cost) and found out the sauce on one contained gluten only after bringing it home with me. If an establishment is going to go to the effort to order crusts from California, staff ought to be trained not to make a gluten free pizza with a sauce or a topping containing gluten! For what it's worth, the gf crust was good, crunchy with a sweet kick. On the plus side, Fralo's has an interesting menu and I can see how it would be a nice place to go just for the ambiance. In response to the owner comment below, I will add that I ordered a basic cheese pizza as well as several other more interesting pizzas (at the suggestion of the server, who knew I was ordering gf). ABSOLUTELY not asking about toppings in advance was my mistake, however, at an establishment with that price point I expect the staff to have a higher level of training and knowledge. read more

Before I came here, I heard only great things about Fralo's. I had driven past fralo's many times and the place looks packed everytime. Earlier this evening I finally got to Fralo's and was very excited. The wait staff were very friendly and seemed very proud of their food. The calamari appetizers came out quickly and were delicious. The pizza on the other hand took over 45 mins. After the long anticipation, I was met with the biggest disappointment. The pizza was soggy and tasted like a microwave pizza. For the price I was expecting excellent pizzas but these were quite frankly the worst I've had in San Antonio. Atmosphere was nice and I quite enjoyed the live music tonight. Since this place is packed out every night, Fralo's must be doing pretty well but I won't be back again. read more

We heard nothing but amazing things about this place so we made the drive and hit it up. Waste of gas money. The service was absolutely horrific as our waiter seemed more interested in attempting to penetrate his coworker who was way out of his league and decided that refilling water, beer, bringing out our food, removing dirty dishes, or any other wait staff duty was beneath him. The food was awful and poorly prepared. You serve pizza, how can you undercook the one thing you say is your "art"? Then burn the shit out of it when we ask to have it cooked up. We never complain about anything or send anything back, EVER, but we were placed in the awkward position of doing so. I asked for prosciutto on my pizza and it was a single 1/2 inch thick slice of uncooked prosciutto. I love prosciutto and anyone else that does know that you cut it as thinly as possible if it isn't going to be cooked and if it isn't it is like chewing a tire. There dough was subpar for their "art" as well. Even the baked goat cheese, whish I am not certain how you make that bland, sucked. IF you want to go sit outside, the only redeemable aspect of this place, and have shit pizza and shit service than this is the place for you. Very disappointed! Had gone to Fralo's multiple times about five years ago and considered it a treat. We then moved away. We returned to Fralo's recently for a birthday and were so disappointed. To start with there were 10 of us and there were only two larger tables. We proceeded to one of them when we were instructed we could not use them. When asked why I was told that it was slow and they were trying to keep everyone to one side. There was only one other group there at the time. The other tables were quite small and yes they did tightly seat 8 people on a square picnic table. The problem is that when the servers start bringing out large pizzas and drinks it is a juggling act. (I remembered this from the past with a smaller group of people). Finally we asked if we could just pull another table over and were told they were not allowed to. My husband persisted and the waitress said she would go ask. She did come back and my husband and son helped her slide a table over. The waitress herself was very nice and obviously doing as she was instructed. The food came quite promptly. One of the pizzas had a long hair in the melted cheese. The waitress immediately took it back and it was remade. The other pizza was to be cheese for small children with little to no sauce. Kids only ate crust because it had a good amount of sauce, we did not complain. The pizza was not the same. The meat one was very greasy, the pan was full of grease and crust was soggy. Not the same quality at all. Waitress was very accommodating until it started to get busy and she was spread way to thin! read more

i have to say that i have had great pizza here, but they continue to have food service issues which seem to be often due to the lack of staffing or short handed. I would suggest to the owners who do seem to very much care about the product they are offering to increase the wages that they offer to eliminate the often cited lack of staff to raise the standard of what Fralos stands for ... I had a significant complaint and the owners and staff addressed immediately it but the best of the best do not have these types of issues. read more

Normally, I love the pizza and atmosphere here. Today, I called in an order and was told the pizza would be ready in 35-40 minutes. We arrive 40 minutes later, paid for the pizza and was told it would a few minutes. Well a few minutes turned into 20 minutes. When I asked to talk to the manager to inquire why it was taking so long. Got this long story about how backed up things were with people coming in. I made a comment that it was like our order was put in after we paid. I was assured that was not the case and it takes 7 minutes to bake a pizza. Still doesn't add up, our pizza should have been done. We got our order and left. We got in the car and realized we had the wrong order. I went back to Fralos and asked to talk to the owner. The manager came back and said the owner was in a business meeting. So my question is if you mess up on the order you should fix it right. No, I was wrong for making my views known. So you and your workers want to argue with a 50 year old lady about how a custom pizza takes time. No apologies or offering something to make it up. I guess you can't give good customer service to someone in their 50's. read more
