Just like the mother ship in Stratford, everything was just o.k. went there on a Friday night with friends, sat down quickly. FOOD; came out at a reasonable timeframe but average at best with a below average sausage and broccoli rabe sandwich. Chefs need to get more creative with spices? SERVICE; female waitress behind the bar could not have been more standoffish and unfriendly. Our young waiter was fine. AMBIANCE: We sat out on their tented-in porch. The only reason I am giving two stars is because of the great waitress and awesome fries. I started off with French onion soup and it was ok. The broth of the soup was good but their wasn't many onions and the bread was all mush not any crunch at all. I then had the bbq chicken salad. It was a small portion for a high price and the chicken was smothered in so much bbq you could barely identify that it was chicken. My son had chicken tenders that literally came out still frozen on the inside. The French fries were very good crispy and skinny and just enough salt. He also has a grilled cheese which was good. So here we are New Year's Eve with my best friend and her 17 year old son and his girlfriend. We were originally going to go to another place in Monroe, Bella Rosa, a bit further away, but the weather is so rainy and foggy I said let's try here. So we called to cancel. We walked in and we're surprised to see the place at 5:45 half empty. We're seated in a corner table and order drinks. Champagne for me and a "Chistmopolitan" for my friend. A fun knockoff with white grape juice instead of cranberry juice. Not a hit, "looked like and tasted like white grape juice!" The kids stuck with sparkling water. The waitress comes back and apologizes that they only have Prosecco. That's fine with me! For starters we get the antipasto salad and a cheese pizza. Wow the antipasto is delicious with salami/mozzarella cheese sliced rollatini red onions, olives, peppers and Gorgonzola cheese. Just so fresh and light. The pizza I'm assured is just perfect. For entree I order the special, French cut bone in pork chop. The kids get penne alla vodka and scrimp bianco. The French pork chop I share with my friend and we see it's a bit pink so ask to have it done a tiny bit more, which we're assured is no problem. It's back in a flash, and we dive in. It's a nice amount of pork, more than enough for two! Boy it is absolutely tender and delicious! With broccoli onions and other fresh veggies. Wow it turns out to be a lot of food, and we ask to doggie bag it. Everyone is delighted with their choices, no complaints! We pass on dessert because the kids have friends coming back to the house. The Bar area gets wild on Tuesdays and where my husband and I used to local for a date night. When we bring the kids, we like to sit on the new enclosed patio (when it is an option). The atmosphere with the fireplace is very comforting and there is usually no one else out there so noise from the kids is not a factor! They start you off with a bread basket with fresh loaf slices and their garlic pizza flatbread which they are known for with a garlic hummus dipping sauce that you could drink, it is so good! Sometimes they might even throw a spicy pepper in there for yah! The menu is large and there are plenty of good options. Oh Vazzy's...... I have been coming here for many years. While perhaps only once a year when I lived further away, we have been here three times since moving closer this summer. All of the times for dinner on different nights- weekday, weekend, early and later dinners. Overall, the food seems to have gone downhill from what I remember really enjoying in past experience. After our last time we probably won't be coming back. There are sooo many other Italian places to explore and each of our recent experiences have left us feeling just meh... The pizza bread and white bean spread they offer at the start is still really sooo good and probably our favorite parts of our meals. Their pizza is still also quite good.... but various appetizers and entrees have all been not so good. Some specifics- Their eggplant osteria was all ricotta (which was good) but there was little to no eggplant- it was all dried out and overly fried breading of what was too thin eggplant so you could not taste it. So sad for someone who loves eggplant and why we ordered the appetizer to begin with. Their lobster carbonara had way too much bacon that was overly salty and just not good. Didn't finish nor want to take home.... Service whether it is busy in the restaurant or slow with only two other tables has also not been great. We waited a long time to be seated once while servers all walked by and didn't acknowledge our presence and then took awhile to get orders in and waaaay too long to get food, check etc. Overall, we tried to give them the benefit of the doubt given their long history of being good but as the saying goes "3 strikes and you are OUT".... read more

Disastrous treatment by Lisa, the manager!! We are regular customers, and one of the dishes that we ordered was the lobster special.... The lobster was served without it being cracked, which proved to be impossible to open and eat.. When we asked for it to be cracked, the manager, Lisa, got very nasty, and said the kitchen was too busy to crack it!!! This was at about 5:15 PM.... We went to Duchess, so that our guest was able to have dinner.... Terrible customer service from Lisa, who should be setting the example for wait staff, as well as welcoming the diners.... Our waitress was delightful, and our waiters and waitresses are always a pleasure... Time for the owner to employ a Manager, who cares about her clients.... read more

Horrible service! My husband And I were schooled on how to read a menu, lol They have a poor tasting turkey with an egg on it. It was not tasty at all. In fact it made me gag. Just awful! Then I figured maybe I bring home to my son and he could try it, since they were throwing it out. Instead, they charged me for it and I had to ask to please take it off and keep the sandwich. But I just do not like their food. The 3 stars is for their lovely atmosphere and the yummy bread they give you to start. The BREAD is addicting. It really is. But the food itself I am not a fan of. I cannot explain. I find it lacks flavor and is a bit..well..bland. A friend of mine who feels the same way says it just does not taste seasoned and I think she hits the nail on the head. The pizza has a very plain taste and I don't get much flavor from it. I've tried to like them because I LOVE the atmosphere. Last time I came here, I just had some bread. I did order some pizza but it just wasn't very good. But because I so enjoy the atmosphere not to mention how friendly the staff is, I may come back. Food price / quality rating 7.5. The atmosphere is contemporary Italian with a large nicely designed outside seating area with a fireplace. The menu has a widely varied selection of Italian standards. I did not see any "specials" offered. I first ordered the Grilled Lamb Chops, but they weren't available for some reason. So I had the Chicken Napolitano, which was presented nicely, but did not come with a side salad or anything. It was actually kind of flavorless, and was in need of garlic and other flavor enhancers. I also thought the prices were a little steep compared to comparable restaurants. Small selection of draught beers available. Cozy family-friendly restaurant conveniently located on route 25. Our family had ordered their family style take out trays during the pandemic and has been eager to dine in ever since. The parking lot and restaurant were packed on a Friday night, and we had to wait roughly 15 minutes for a table despite making a reservation. Wait staff was friendly however we often felt forgotten due to how busy the restaurant was. Their complimentary pizza bread to start was a hit, and barely lasted more than five minutes at our table. We opted for the brussel sprouts to start... we loved the mix they were served with with bacon, sweet potatoes, and craisins. We had to wait roughly an hour for our entrees after we placed are order, so we were happy to have filled up on appetizers ahead of time. Entrees were generously portioned and served steaming warm. They offer a decent wine menu, our party opted for cocktails which were a tad too sweet for our liking. Carrot cake was average, we absolutely loved the special limoncello cake. Went for a quick lunch with my husband and had the Johnny vazz wedge- to be honest, it tastes different than in Bridgeport, where I love this wedge. My daughter was served stinky lamb chops. If you brought it to your nose it stunk. The manager said nothing was wrong with the lamb served to my child. When we brought this to her attention she kept saying that nothing was wrong, we told to her not to serve the lamb to other customers, but she kept insisting that nothing was wrong. I went here with friends and family after my Nanny's wake and it started out a little rough. The place was definitely a little to small for 60 people but the staff did everything to make us feel accommodated (yes we planned in advance). The food was pretty decent but I think the most note worthy dish was the eggplant parmesan. I don't even like eggplant and I think it was exquisite. The atmosphere was comfy and they served coffee in these cool little glasses. The best part was the staff that made you feel like you were family. Honestly I wanted to cater from another place but it did not go through. So a family member suggested this place since it was in the area. I had a party for my son, he graduated from high school and he's going away for the Marines so it really meant alot to our family. I was not very happy with the catering. I ordered full trays of meatballs, chicken tenders, sausage and peppers, penne Ala Vodka , and Lasagna. I must say the chicken tenders and meatballs were really good. But everything else was ok. The Lasagna we didn't even eat for dinner because it was under cooked and we were so hungry we didn't want to wait to put it in the oven for another 20 minutes. I paid 80 dollars for a full tray of Lasagna that was not even cooked correctly. It upsets me because that's alot of money. I paid over 450 dollars for catering and everything should have been amazing. The food was average as was the service. Urban Italian meets suburban Monroe - ish. The food is consistent. And this may sound funny but all the vazzys serve really, really good bread/pizza/stuff. It's always super fresh, airy, light interior, but good crunch w a slight char on the exterior. Excellent Sicilian calamari. Love their chicken parm, pasta dishes are always good too- lots of garlic. Ordered take out from here several times in the past few months and the order has always been wrong. From getting an entirely different item to being told they were out of something and made me something else instead *after* I've picked up the food. Each time I call back with the mistakes, the woman on the phone (typically an older woman) is consistently rude and unwilling to make things right or is unabashedly careless. Some suggestions for your business- read the order back to the customer before hanging up to confirm each item and take a phone number down when getting orders so that these mistakes don't continue to happen. Side note- I can't speak about the service from the bartenders or servers since I have only gotten take out here. Perhaps they offer a more pleasant experience when dining there. We are long time fans of this and the other Vazzy's locations. We've tried to continue giving them our business through the Covid crisis because the people in Monroe are great. After several months now though, I have to say, the food is not as good. We've had pizza, dinners and salads to go and have been disappointed by all. Pasta and chicken dinners have been greasy and lacking flavor, often missing ingredients listed on the menu. Pizza has been average at best.
