Quiche
Samantha C.

Overall, I liked Frank and Laurie's and will likely visit again so I can get a better feel for their menu. I enjoyed my coffee, and the hash browns were perfectly crisp and paired nicely with an aioli. I thought the quiche was OK; I liked the sweet potato topping but felt like the egg was not as cooked as I am used to. Therefore, that may be just my personal preference and not an issue with the restaurant. I am usually pretty adventurous with food and not very picky, but I did not love the deviled eggs either. However, my friend really enjoyed the pancakes and it was a pretty generous portion. In terms of ambiance, this is an adorable spot to catch up with friends over brunch. Definitely call and make a reservation for large groups, or expect to wait a bit when you check in; I went with one person on a Wednesday at noon and only waited 15 minutes, which was not bad! Staff were nice as well.

Kiwi chocolate mousse

Finally made it to Frank & Laurie's for dinner! The restaurant was cozy and quite nice inside. My friend and I shared everything and it was more than enough food. We got the tuna crudo, which was light and the perfect amount of citrus. We also got mussels with creamed beans, which was an interesting combination and probably my fav dish of the night. The lasagna was quite unique, as it was crispy instead of the regular soft lasagna. We finished with a kiwi chocolate mousse, which was delicious and reminded me of mint chocolate. I'd definitely come back to try them for breakfast!

The Pork Shoulder sandwich.
Tee Z.

Worthy of the coveted Tee Z Sixth Star! A midday last minute lunch choice turned out to be a winner. Hours are 10-3p only. We had the pork shoulder sandwich and the patty melt, using the butterscotch doughnut as an appetizer lol . The sandwiches were just simply incredible, service, five star and very friendly everything you would expect from a place on the east side of Providence. Please note that a 20% gratuity is added to all checks, and off street parking is available. If you enjoy a eclectic fresh and hip meals, this is The Place.

Deviled eggs

Frank & Lauries was our first stop in Providence and we can see why Gwyneth Paltrow gave them a shout out (supposedly). We started off with some bevvies from the counter while we waited for our table. I got the special paw paw latte. It was an interesting concept but to be completely honest, it just tasted like a latte to me! I didn't taste anything special or any subtle notes of pear or anything fruity for that matter. This was a miss for me. For food, we decided on the hash browns to share and I got their special scallop salad. It was really nice and refreshing for the hot day. My husband got the patty melt and devoured it. I had a bite as well and it was delicious. We also had the deviled eggs which were definitely more elevated than the deviled eggs I grew up on. I really liked it! The hash browns were my favorite though. So crispy and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Yum!

Croque monsieur ($19) fell flat for me.

Frank and Laurie's puts a lot of thought and effort into their food, that is clear. The dine in area is buzzing on a weekend- there aren't many places you'll walk into with the same kind of energy. The staff seems like they really enjoy what they're doing; despite running around non-stop. The food is great, however I think I had quite high expectations that were not met. I'd say my expectations correlated pretty well the pricing of things.. It's expensive here. California specialty bakery/French pastiserie prices without delivering as well. The quiche was very good but it leaned slighty to far towards gelatinous for me. I would have liked for it to lean more towards creamy or eggy, it was too gelatin-like. The sauces, flavors, peppers and texture from the fried cheese were phenomenal. The crust was lackluster. $18 is steep for even a quiche of this size. Especially with the automatic %20 gratuity. More on that later. The Croque monsieur was overall kind of a let down. The bread was wonderfully tangy, slight chew, good texture and depth of flavor- likely helped by the ground mustard. The roasted pork was flavorless, dry, and just kind of fell apart. The egg should have been a runny egg- scrambled egg here was also not a value add. A runny yolk would have helped with mouth feel all around. $19 on this is OK, still pricey, but it was substantial. Just not amazing. The donut, I personally wouldn't bother. The texture of the donut was very good but the filling had no flavor. Wait for them to have a more fruit forward flavor then I'd say go for it. This was a creamed corn flavor or something like that. $6 Not pictured I got their hot coffee, just don't. There are too many great coffee shops close by to drink mediocre coffee. Wasted $5, unfortunately. Now, the gratuity. Automatic 20%? Fine.. Until I'm waiting an hour for my food.. And the staff isn't Eben on top of keeping the water full when we were sitting at the bar area. The service was absolutely not worthy of a 20% tip. I can't say I'll be riding to come back but I'll try the dinner here at some point- my expectations are a bit more tempered now and yours should be, too. Don't expect a life changing experience. They're elevated here, but I'm after more than just presentation and technique- give me the flavor and service.

I stopped in for breakfast and was genuinely impressed. Everything I tried was incredibly tasty and fresh, and you can tell real care goes into the food. The service was absolutely impeccable, friendly, attentive, and welcoming without being overbearing. It's rare to find a place that nails both quality and hospitality, but this spot truly does. I'll definitely be coming back!

Oh Frank and Laurie, what have you done?! The words unexpected and inconspicuous come to mind. Who would have guessed this little dining space located on the corner street of neighborhood could pack such a punch. The menu itself? I can't even fully grasp the theme. Is it Lunch? Brunch? Something in between? From pancakes to porridge, soups salad an and sandwiches, it all honestly feels a little all over the place. But the food though!! Creative, flavorful, absolutely spectacular. The biscuits: buttery, flakey, crumbly goodness. It's not easy finding a great biscuit, especially anywhere outside of the South. Deviled eggs: flavor on flavor on texture on flavor. Smoked trout roe? Yes please. I've have a lot of deviled eggs, but can't say I've ever had better. The creative juices were certainly flowing with this one. Hash brown: This more than anything is the reason I came to Frank and Laurie, and it did not disappoint. A cubbed hash brown, perfectly golden brown and crispy on the outside while being beautifully melty on the Inside? This feels like something a mad culinary scientist cooked up in a lab. Some things you just have to experience for yourself. Sometimes you got to go with the flow, and when it works, it works! After just one visit, this charming little spot has gone ahead and snatched my heart. I'll be dreaming of my return....

The menu .

Where to start. Was recommended to come here and so glad I did. This is a brunch spot that does dinner on Friday's only. Due to timing decided to come for lunch. Daniel gave excellent service and recommendations. The hash browns were perfectly crisp and tender inside. The deviled eggs were not your typical deviled eggs. The flavor was delightful and unexpected. The star dish is the poached eggs and potatoes !! This one I cannot explain but it works and will try to recreate at home.

WOW my new favorite restaurant in Providence!! If a friend was visiting me in Providence and going for brunch, this is 100% where I would take them. It's a cute little mom&pop style restaurant located on the corner of a street that serves amazing food that's well balanced in terms of flavor and texture. Wait staff also very attentive and warm! Must get food: the hash browns! Perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Sprinkle of salt on top. Oyster aioli as the perfect dip on the side! Also the foccacia in any form. Foccacia with soup was my favorite (soup changes seasonally) Other brunch foods we enjoyed: donut (flavor changes seasonally, but so good), pancakes (fluffy, thick, with dash of salt and generous butter). Deviled eggs (not a big deviled eggs person, but if you are you definitely should get it, the crispy rice on top is great textural change!) Parking: on the street, usually plenty of spots open on the streets nearby though

Lamb sausage and polenta.
Robert H.

I had a lovely brunch at Frank & Laurie's. I decided to order a few different dishes, starting with the deviled eggs - with roe and crunch they had a lovely texture and taste. I also ordered one of the seasonal salads, with celery root, lemon, and apples. It was very well prepared and plated. The lemons dominated the flavor profile of the salad. Lastly I ordered one of the mains - my favorite dish - lamb sausage on creamy polenta. The sausage was superb - tender and well seasoned - and with the polenta it was divine. Great plating. Service was very warm. The decor reminded me of Scandinavian - very modern and beautiful counter.

Hashbrowns

From the creators of our favorite pop-up, Thick Neck, comes a new brunch (and Friday night dinner) spot that's quickly becoming our neighborhood favorite. Frank & Laurie's brings "elevated grandma chic" vibes, and the food is just as homey. The menu changes often, but don't miss the deviled eggs and the best hashbrowns you'll ever have--a crispy, cubed block of fried goodness served with oyster sauce. Pro Tips: - It gets VERY busy on weekends and Fridays, so try making a reservation. There is a cute park across the street for while you wait - Weekdays are easier to stop in - Don't miss the hashbrowns and the deviled eggs

Ana H.

The attention and service were incredible, making every moment special. The food? Absolutely delicious--every bite was a delight! The place has such a cute and cozy ambiance, and their share table concept is really unique and inviting. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to visit, and I can't wait to go back for more amazing food and great vibes. Highly recommend! What did I have? - Hashbrowns, Smoked Oyster Aioli - Smashed Cucumber, Crispy Fish Bits, Herbs, Caraway - Steamed Egg Sandwich, English Muffin, Sausage, Onion, Cheese

Milkshake

This place recently opened up near me and I checked it out with a friend for brunch. We both got a milkshake, and said it was one of the better milkshakes we've had. They're vanilla with a black cherry, and the option to add liquor. For food, I got the steamed egg and sausage English muffin sandwich. The creamy streamed egg was interesting, but I thought the sausage was the standout component. I'd probably try something else next time, but it was a solid breakfast sandwich. There was both indoor and outdoor seating, and we opted for outside. The tables are good for two, but since they're folding one side it isn't as comfortable to sit at because you can't put your legs under it. The cups, plates, and silverware were charmingly mismatched and the napkins were very nice. The table also had a cute little vase with flowers.

I had a last minute invite this morning to join a friend's reservation. I have heard great things…read moreabout this place but hadn't had the opportunity to visit yet. So it was an easy yes, to say the least! When I arrived, I walked around the corner to the entrance on Rochambeau. The waiting area inside is bright, colorful, decorated with some personal tokens, assorted cookbooks and accolades. You can just see into the kitchen and suddenly the chef and owner, Milena Pagán will appear over the cafe style doors to greet you and get you checked in for your reservation. Highly recommend a reservation if you plan to come on the weekend. The place was busy! We were taken to our spots at the bar and greeted by Milena's partner, Darcy. He took care of us from start to finish. I could not resist the brunch prie fixe menu for $45. What a steal. An entree, house made pastry, juice/coffee/tea and one of the house cocktails. I chose the shakshouka, a cardamom knot, the guava-pineapple fizz and the rebujito. I also added an iced horchata latte because I was at brunch after all! We had our drinks and pastries in front of us quickly. My juice was refreshing, tangy and just a hint of sweetness. I love guava and this was exactly what I wanted. The latte was simple but effective, hitting the spiced notes you want from horchata with the depth of good espresso to back it up. The latte in particular was delicious with the cardamom knot, the two harmonizing together for a moment of heaven on this rainy Sunday afternoon. The outside of the knot was caramelized in spots adding this great crunch and the inside was soft like a cinnamon bun. My friend mentioned it was one of her favorites and I can see why! When the shakshouka came out, the smell hit me first. Warm tomatoes, the herbs from the chimichurri, and the tostones fresh from the pan. The presentation is beautiful, inviting you to dig in immediately. I of course opted for the smashed avocado upgrade and they thoughtfully plated it on the side. I like to taste everyone together so I added it to my skillet, and began eating the dish using my tostones as my utensil. It was amazing. All those smells I mentioned before played through beautifully in the tasting. It was one of the best dishes I've ever had. My only wish was for more tostones but I know if I had asked for an additional side, they had that as an option to take. I'll make sure to do that next time! The rebujito cocktail was something I hadn't tried before so I was looking forward to it. It felt like the kind of drink you have on a hot summer day. Similar to a mojito, but with good sherry as the base alcohol instead of rum. As a side note, I think it's an incredibly clever to create a cocktail menu around sherry when you have a beer and wine license. Using a fortified wine? Brilliant. But after my experience here today, I know that brilliance is in every brick of that space. If you were like me and haven't made the trip to this spot on the corner of Hope and Rochambeau, please fix that ASAP! I can't wait to go back, and bring all my friends and family here so they can share in what I enjoyed today. Just an incredible meal and service.

However we did end up finishing within the hour - I'm not totally sure how strict they are about that rule. They also have the kitchen right where you wait to get seated, which just added to the hunger and anticipation

Come for the décor, stay because your food hasn't arrived yet…read moreAfter seeing WhatDidYouEatTodaySir hype up Marvin's Delicatessen, I figured it was worth the ride down from the Boston area. I love a good deli. Unfortunately, this wasn't just disappointing--it was borderline comical. Let's start with the good: the place looks fantastic. Clean, modern, really well done. If Yelp rated based on interior design alone, this place is pushing 5 stars. Now... the rest. First clue something was off--the dining room felt like a walk-in freezer. Not exaggerating: every single table had people eating in their coats. At some point you have to look around and think, "maybe we turn the heat up before someone orders a side of frostbite." Then came the wait. And the wait. And the wait. Close to an hour for deli sandwiches. During that time, I had a clear view of the kitchen, which turned into dinner and a show. Plates were coming back nonstop--wrong bread, wrong orders, total confusion. It was like watching a live-action blooper reel. Eventually, our food arrives... and of course, it's wrong. Back it goes. No big deal--mistakes happen. Round two: soup comes out with vegetables after my wife clearly explained she has an allergy. The waitress caught it (thankfully), and back it goes again. What finally came out can only be described as "chicken soup in spirit." It tasted like someone waved a bouillon cube over hot water and called it a day. No seasoning, no substance, and I'm pretty sure the "chicken" made a brief guest appearance and left. Her sandwich? Also wrong--and somehow included onions and mystery vegetables. So that was basically game over. I ordered the 50/50 (pastrami and corned beef). I say "ordered," but identifying what actually showed up was a bit of a guessing game. The meat was dry--painfully dry. The pastrami (I think?) had the texture of kindling wood and looked like it had been sliced by someone who just discovered what a knife is. Tough, stringy, and completely lacking that juicy, melt-in-your-mouth quality you expect from a deli. The waitress seemed nice enough but didn't really know the menu, and the kitchen was clearly in full chaos mode. One guy--who I assume was the owner or manager--was running around like a man trying to put out ten fires with a squirt gun. At some point, we just started laughing. Not because it was good--because it was so bad it crossed into "you can't make this up" territory. Maybe I'm spoiled coming from the North Shore, where delis take pride in their corned beef and pastrami. But if you're going to call yourself a delicatessen, you've got to at least get the basics right. This place has the look, but none of the execution. I wouldn't go back. I wouldn't recommend it. And next time I'll just stay north of the border where the sandwiches actually show up correctly--and edible.

The first time I came, it was a rainy weekday and this time it was a sunny weekend, so I was expecting an even larger crowd; and my prediction was correct. The line was just out the door but because of their awesome staff, the line was moving very quickly. While we waited in line, we could watch them making pastries through the glass, a couple feet in front of us. I admired that level of transparency. When we were third in line, the kindest lady asked us whether we'd be eating in or taking out and she took down our name to help us find a table when it came time. She did the same for the rest of the people in line. She also gave us some recommendations, including the cinnamon bun - apparently they're so good kids cry when they sell out. I didn't intend to order anything with my drink, but I couldn't get the cinnamon bun out of my head so I ordered it along with my iced spiced chai latte. The hen (I think it's their logo) on the aprons of the employees are super cute. We did secure a table. The tables are close together to maximize the number of people who can sit down but I didn't mind. I love their art all around, mostly of birds which I am obsessed with. I love that they have a lot of natural lighting coming through their tall windows. I also like the navy blue and white theme they have going on. The chai latte was perfect. It was the right color (a dark tan), meaning the ratio of tea and milk was good and I could taste a lot of the spices. The cinnamon bun blew my expectations away. The second my teeth made. contact with the icing, it was a magical feeling. I couldn't quite put my finger on what it tasted like, but the closest I got was dulce de leche. It is truly unlike any other cinnamon bun I have ever had. The dough is soft and there is a good amount of cinnamon. It's also $4 which is not bad. I had a bite of their canelé, which apparently requires a lot of work to make. It was very moist, with a great caramelized finish. I am super excited to try their new weekend dinner menu, but also more of their all day menu items.

Ordered the breakfast sandwich and that tomato jam needs to be illegal. Sweet, savory, slightly tangy -- it completely makes the sandwich. I kept trying to figure out how to recreate it at home. Not happening. Crispy chicken sandwich was properly seasoned and not dried out (why is that so hard for some places?). Fries were solid too -- crispy, not limp. And the kale salad with roasted chickpeas and chicken made me feel like I had my life together. Fresh, simple, and actually satisfying. It's one of those places you stumble into while traveling and then immediately start googling whether you can justify going back the next day.
