On a day where we had business in Barrington, hubby found Leon's for breakfast. I'm not a big breakfast person, so it's a challenge for us to agree on breakfast foods, but I'm always willing to give a new place a try and see if they have something we can both enjoy. When we arrived, there was ample parking and ample seating inside, so we took a seat at the bar. It was a Saturday morning, and despite being peak breakfast time, we were only one of two tables occupied which I thought was weird. If this was on aquidneck island, the place would be PACKED at this time on this day, but I was happy to not have to wait in line and be rushed about with tourists. After looking over the menu, we decided to order a few items and give them all a try. We started with the crunchy French toast, the biscuits and gravy with eggs and potatoes, and the potato latke/pancakes with applesauce and sour cream. The French toast was indeed crunchy, but was a little dry and boring on the inside. The biscuits were fine, and the potato cakes were good but not great. Service was really slow given how few people were there, and how many people were working in the kitchen. Also, I thought it was weird and a little intrusive that if you want to use the bathroom, you have to literally walk through the whole kitchen, which made me uncomfortable. Overall, a decent breakfast, but definitely not worth the wait or the drive. It's always good to try new places, but this is not on the top of the list of places I want to return to for breakfast. Prices are ok, but not reflective of the quality or flavor of their dishes. Side note, they were planning super oldie moldy music pretty loud, and that was another mark against them in my book...not even good old music, and definitely not "get you in the mood for breakfast" music. read more

This is a little hidden gem! I happened to see this cafe next to another establishment next door and ventured in after I was told how good the food is! Yes! I can honestly say this place has wonderful dishes to choose from and also the owners couldn't be more helpful and accommodating. I ordered the chicken Marsala with mashed and blanched green beans. It was all prepared so I could heat it up at dinner time. They even suggested a few more items that would be perfect for my next trip to Leon's! This place is great! I have come here for breakfast over the years. I never knew that they did lunch and dinner. I just moved next door and I am so excited. I have ordered takeout breakfast a few times. Everything absolutely delicious and ready exactly when they said it would be. Now that I know they serve lunch and dinner I had to try it. I have had the meatball sandwich which was absolutely delicious. The hand cut fries are amazing. Tonight for dinner I picked up the chicken marsala. It was awesome. Loved it all... to be transparent I need to pivot here... lol I hate buzz words, but to be honest I had heard about Bill's food as he has a storied restaurant history in the Providence area.. I'll leave that there. But back to the breakfast I just enjoyed... My son had his standard... French toast, and Leon's version was as good as I have seen. The toast was grilled perfectly... toasting the outer custard perfectly but leaving the warm creamy custard soaked French bread inside. He served it this with fresh berries... not too many, but also enough so that you enjoyed each bite with a few berries if you choose to. Joe reported this dish as a big thumbs up. While not a culmination he certainly knows what he likes and as mentioned he always has the French Toast. So from Meh to Wow... he gave Leon's version of the classic breakfast fare a wooooow... the maple syrup did not hurt either! Now I'm a fat guy... I don't drink so my girth is from enjoying food. A gourmand if you will. I am a far better that average cook myself and have been in and around the food business all my adult life. I feel I am a fair judge of a joints culinary level. Leon's is in a very high end of that spectrum. So he needs to be held to that levels standard... and at least at this visit, my first of many expected, he hit the mark. I had the "Coffee Rubbed Eggs Benedict" and they were fantastic. The parts... the hollandaise was terrific, warm and fresh. The eggs were poached to perfection with the yolk runny but not too much of the whites were, the English muffins were toasted brown and crispy but not burnt, and the star of the show, the house cures coffee rubbed bacon was out of this world... who knew you could improv upon bacon? That component by itself was worth ever cent charged for this dish. Put that all together and add some properly cooked home fries and this was a breakfast worth traveling for. That was all further completed by a very pleasing to sit in atmosphere... clean and tight. And a favorite soundtrack of music I certainly enjoyed. Generally, Leon's Bill demonstrates a great passion for great food combinations. Not a crazy half cocked experimental "new" let's just try every combinations mix joint. Nothing is ever added without a actual reason be it acid, salt, sweet or fat. He can dance around the edges of the classics without "going too far". He creates his own ingredients. He builds legitimate dishes with these ingredients. I sat and spoke with Bill and discussed his concepts and reasons. I can't tell you how many neophytes try to expouse upon there culinary efforts by explaining the make "their own dressings in house". That's the least anyone could do. Bill makes his own bacon and cures his own pastrami. That's commitment. A last but certainly not least was the lovely woman who attended to our experience... job well done... attentive, did not have to ask for a thing, but not hovering. Present but invisible. Just an experienced worker who has given and I assume enjoyed great service prior. She was rewarded handsomely for her effort. Finally My breakfast demonstrated the Bill and his staff at Leon's plays to a whole different band and not just a different drummer. I will be back. Job well done all. You have a new customer. Round #... the second try: To anyone in driving distance to Barrington, RI that also like to eat and this will be a limiter, great food, not just OK food but a truly great meal and this is breakfast I am preaching about... you owe it to yourself to enjoy Leon's Cafe. No nonsense truly terrific breakfast and honestly a head and shoulders ahead of any other spot I've enjoyed... and I've enjoyed them all in this hood... not taking anything away from others that are terrific but Leon makes his own coffee rubbed bacon. His food is the culmination of a long career in the preparation of food and he obviously loves his work. A curmudgeon for sure but only because he's on a different plane than the rest of us mere mortals. If it matters I had biscuits and gravy and joe had a banana's foster waffle... add a stream of colorful adjectives and wildly delicious descriptors here but it's all that good... so run, don't walk to Leon's for breakfast when in the Barrington area or anywhere within a half hour drive from here... there I said it! read more

I stopped by here while waiting for a friend who had an appointment. The restaurant is small, but very clean with a warm ambiance. The staff was friendly. They had some specials going with quite a variety that looked so delicious making it hard to decide. I went with the waitress' recommendation which was the pork belly eggs benedict. The pork belly is cured in house with I believe coffee. The eggs were perfectly cooked with a nice tangy hollandaise sauce. The English muffin was grilled to perfection. Some places don't grill it or toast it enough and then it becomes soggy. Not the case here. Home fries had a bit of a crust which is just the way I like it! It was so yummy! Very pleased with my first visit to Leon's. Came for lunch on a Saturday while on my hour lunch break. So many options on the menu looked tasty, including a curried chicken salad sandwich and pulled pork. Decided to go with the pesto chicken sandwich which came with a side of a delicious mayo based potato salad that was far above your typical side potato salad and included dill and shredded carrots. Service was helpful and friendly. I ordered at the counter and they brought the food to the table. It took about 10 minutes for my sandwich to arrive and when it did I was immediately impressed with how good it looked and the quality of the food. I've stopped going to Blue Kangaroo because I've found the quality and service doesn't match the price and Leon's does! I work in town and my co workers had been telling me to try this place out.
