Pricey doors that we've always found to be worth it in the past. However, recently purchased a bi-fold that was cut at Frank Lumber in order to fit the "high end" hardware Mike sold us on. Only problem, the cut didn't come out square and the two doors don't line up correctly. Would have been fine had they offered to make it right by reimbursing for the premium we paid. Instead, get a less than satisfactory email back. Won't be going back to Frank Lumber... quality and customer service not good enough for what we paid. If you're going to charge considerably more than the big boxes, customers want to know they matter to you. read more

I must have the gift of invisibility! I stopped by on a Friday afternoon to see what they had. We are in the middle of a remodel and a new front door and a few interior doors are on the list. We bought our last front door from here and have been very happy with it. I've picked out some doors from one of those home improvement stores but would prefer to buy local. BUT not once was I approached. I pulled doors out, pushed doors over, took pictures and not one employee asked if I needed help. I walked through the entire store and spent at least 15 minutes there-I've worked retail and I find this level of customer service to be very disappointing. read more

This place has gone down hill tremendously. I have been a paying customer of Frank Lumber The Door Store in Shoreline twice, but have visited the store many times over the years. The first time was an easy transaction. I paid for a custom-sized door to be made into a barn door which they did, and I also paid for it to be finished, which they didn't. Had to wait a additional three weeks for that to be done. I recently purchased an entry door, lock, and handle to the tune of $8K. This order was delivered to my home seven weeks later (at my expense). Once the door was installed and the handle installed it was time for the smart lock. No key was included in the box. Called them. They told me to bring it to them and they would cut a key for it. No, I'm not going to take the lock out and leave my home unlocked, drive 60 miles each way. This is not my mistake. You send someone to me to cut a key. Not unreasonable after spending $8K. Got no where. Called back three weeks later and requested the same thing. The response was to have me drive it all the way to Shoreline, leaving the house unlocked. Again, I said no. They put me on hold and later came back on the line to say they would send a locksmith if they could find one, but it wouldn't be this week or the following. I said get it scheduled and let me know when. Then I got a call back that same day telling me they couldn't find a locksmith and if I could find one myself for less than $200, they would pay for it. Are you serious? Okay, I will definitely do that and you will definitely pay for it. Have found a locksmith and let the Door Store know about it. Now waiting to see if they follow through. I will gladly update my review to 2 stars if they follow through. However, I will find another door store for my business from now on. The customer service was terrible when I went in to order. I stood where directed (because of COVID), and waited and waited and waited while other people walking in after me were helped. There was no number system or sign-in. I was the only woman in line and everyone who walked in after me was male. Maybe I was just too short and they couldn't see me. I had to say walk away and get the attention of someone else who wasn't behind the desk to get helped. Regardless, the customer service has gone way down hill from the first time I ordered a door and the many visits I've made to that store over the years. Not a happy customer. read more

Great company, welcoming front desk staff. Guy in back helping us load (stocky build Caucasian male) kind of just stared at us as we were backing up like we weren't suppose to be there. Gave him my invoice didn't think much of it. After everything was loaded asked him a few questions on which goes to which door and kept giving us "I suppose?" "Well.. yea?" I have purchased doors here for 40 years and have always had excellent service for personal and my company. We went in two weeks ago to purchase 30 or more doors for a project we have. After waiting about 10 minutes a woman came out from the back and acted annoyed to be there. Then it started, she was rude and argued about everything. We finally got pricing and we left . My customer was very unhappy. We went back in two days ago to put in a order hoping to deal with someone else. Everything was going fine and then she spotted us working with someone else. She caused a scene, raised her voice and told us if we didn't want to deal with her we could go somewhere else. This is how people talk to customers? I have bought hundreds of doors here! I purchased 8 single panel w/ovolo interior doors from the Trimlite piles in the back on the store. $1600 worth of product and service. I paid to have the handle bore and hinge mortise done so I never was able to inspect the doors. Well, one is so warped, one corner at the top sticks way out of the jamb while the one at the bottom is lined up just fine. Plus the handle wont catch. I paid to have them do the match...and I brought the old doors in, clearly the mortise and bore hole isn't the issue. The other door is de-laminating. The thin smooth finish that is laminated on the solid door. It on the long side that you see when the door is opened, near the knob. I brought the doors in after calling about it. They asked me for the receipt because they could not find it in their paper-only system. After I emailed a scanned copy, I got an email saying the guys in the shop don't see the issue that would "make it hang wrong". They did not address the issue with the one that is de-laminating. I am gobsmacked that I have to reply to their email. When the door is laid flat on a flat surface, one corner bows away from the surface....it acts like a teeter totter when you push down on it to make it touch the surface...way beyond the 1/4" off that they said on the phone is allowed. You can hang a warped door. It just wont latch and looks cheap. It is not wise to get cheap on customer service when something slipped past quality control. Apologize for the trouble, replace them and learn from it. I do not know how this will end up so I will modify my post once I get another email if they replace the doors. It was a real hassle to remove the doors and hinges to bring them in and reinstalling them may create a whole new issue. ***Update - They balked at replacing the warped door. It took some face to face conversation. They said the door was barely 1/8" off when laid flat, 3 managers and a level. Not when I laid it flat at my house. They said the jamb was built crooked to offset a crooked door. That's not what the builder would do with this inexpensively built house, the old doors were 1963 flat, hollow mahogany. He finally agreed to swap it but not without a snarky comment about how WHEN it is still hanging wrong, we'll know. The door hangs less than an 1/8th off now and latches. Undetectable now cuz of trim. Updated rating since they replace the doors but not without some effort. Lay your Trimite doors flat at the store before you buy. Similar to buying lumber, look for twists before taking them. read more

It can be intimidating to walk into Frank Lumber, The Door Store for the first time. The store has an almost frenetic energy level as the team of sales consultants works with contractors and homeowners discussing designs, taking orders and shopping for accessories. It was really only on our third visit that we felt like we had a clear idea what we were even doing. I call this the three levels of Frank Lumber consciousness. Level 1 - Overload Where do you even begin? Frank Lumber, The Door Store features an almost infinite number of door options that can be custom built, but even in the store there's got to be thousands of ready made doors, just waiting to be taken to a new home. The team that works there is really terrific, but it's hard not to feel like an idiot within the context of all those options. Our first conversation with an associate went something like this: Frank Lumber Associate: "What do you have in mind?" Us: "Uuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhh......." Fortunately they are happy to spend time with you, even across multiple visits, talking about options, providing consultations on style and guidance on all the things you might not even know to ask. Pro tip: Take a picture of your existing door so they have an idea of what aesthetically you are starting with, and then take lots of pictures while you are in the store. Level 2 - Understanding After your level 1 visit to Frank Lumber you will enter your house with an entirely new understanding of the ill-conceived home improvement project you have inexplicably decided to take on. Not only do you have to make a live-with-it-for-the-rest-of-your-life decision about the door style, glass trim, stain color and hardware, but you also have to find a contractor to do all the demolition and installation. You see, Frank Lumber only sells doors, they don't install them. As a helpful gesture to its clueless customers (us), they do provide a sheet with recommended installers. I found the contractor I used, McCashen Construction (see my review: http://bit.ly/1iberKD) by cross referencing that list with reviews on Yelp. This small detail is the only reason that this is a 4-star review instead of a 5-star review. I would have much preferred to have had Frank Lumber do all of my work for me. Most of level two may not even take place within the confines of the store. Interviewing contractors, reviewing bids, agonizing over all the decisions to be made, can all be managed from within the comfortable confines of your house - a big glass of wine in hand. Pro tip: You might as well start drinking now. Ultimately though there will be another visit to Frank Lumber. This is when you'll meet with your associate, review the measurements sent over by the contractor, finalize all the variables and then walk away angst-ridden waiting to hear back on the cost. Level 3 - Resignation Listen, if you want a crappy door, The Home Depot and Lowes are just a few miles to the west. But if you want something that is going to enhance your home, last for decades and give you a sense of pride, you're going to pay for it. Dearly. Pro tip: Community college is a fine option for your kids. But it's all worth it when your door is finally delivered. The craftsmanship is undeniable. Frank Lumber is the best in Seattle. That's why they've been around for over 60 years and serve a clientele up and down the left coast and as far away as Asia. You can't go wrong and you're going to love it when the compliments start coming in. Who knew your neighbors hated your old door so passionately? Early on we spoke with a number of different associates at Frank Lumber and appreciated their patience as they worked to educate us on everything we didn't know. Some associates are clearly more comfortable working with contractors than homeowners, but never did we speak with one who was rude or disinterested in helping us. Ultimately we ended up dealing with Bill Henke and he was just terrific. Helpful, knowledgeable and personable. We really enjoyed working with him. read more

i have purchsed and installed close to 12 doors from frank lumber and the products are normally top notch and easy to install. Unfortunately the "lucky" #13 was not assembled properly and i spent 3+ hours trying to install and work around assembly errors from Frank lumber. I ended up making a 45 minute drive to their store to return the product. They gave me a full refund on the door, however, the 3 hour ordeal trying to install and the 90 minute round trip to their store location put me way behind schedule and killed my Sunday which is now full of work as opposed to spending time with my family. :( I will still buy doors from Frank Lumber but will carefully inspect each door to ensure no other workmanship errors. Maybe it was a fluke but absolute worst time to have one. read more

My five star opinion of Frank's just took a hit. I buy a blank slab door to make into a pocket door (no holes, no hinges, no nothing). The sales man and I go look at them on the rack. HE grabs one, I drag it out into the truck. I deliver the door to my customer so she can paint it up before installing. A week later, I'm getting ready to install the door and finally measure it. It's a 30" door, not a 28" door! I had asked for a 28 and my receipt says I paid for a 28. Mistakes happen, and I'm"m partly to blame for not measuring it myself. The reason I'm updating my review is the response I got when I called and told them. It was obvious that they weren't buying the fact that I was handed the wrong door by their employee. They didn't say "sorry we can't take back a painted door" or "how about partial credit, since we gave you the wrong door, but you painted it. or "I see you've spent hundreds of dollars here every year, come get a new one" They said "so, do you want to buy a new one, or have us trim and plug the one you've got. Thanks guys, for having zero accountability on this issue and for acting like I'm trying to cheat you out of a $50 door. read more

I was sent to this store by a neighbor who has had good experiences there. Mine, however left a lot to be desired. I'm a female homeowner, not a contractor or anyone in the building business. I needed to replace a gasket around an existing door. I'd called ahead and the person on the phone was friendly and helpful. But once I got there, in the lottery of salespersons on staff to help, I must have gotten the one who had no customer service ability whatsoever. As I tried to explain the situation with my door, he had little patience to listen. Just grabbed the product HE thought was correct and told me it was what I needed. There was confusion on my part about how it fit into my door, and tried to show him pics I'd taken of door/jam. Again, he just kept looking at me like I was an idiot, to the point I actually SAID "look, I'm not stupid". Really shouldn't have to get to that point with a salesperson. At one point he just walked off across the store, and I had to shout "do you want me to follow you?". No explanation as to what he was doing, where he was going. I figured he was just over helping me (after approx 2 min of help so far). I almost asked for a different salesperson, but they all seemed to be busy and I just wanted to get out of there. I bought what he suggested, so I'm just hoping it actually fits my needs. read more

Pretty damn awesome, but a little confusing. The deal is that if you need a door, you have to try here. Yes, there's other places that sell doors but unless you just need the most basic of interior hollow core door in a standard size, this place is your JAM. My house is over 100 years old, it's a bit lopsided and the doorways are all wonky so anytime I need a door- and as a homeowner, that's more often than you'd think- I know I'll be out at Frank Lumber. I find that you can easily peruse the stock and the people are helpful but the whole process can be a bit confusing so make sure you ask a MILLION questions if you aren't sure, and especially note the instructions for picking up said door. read more

I recently purchased a new front door from Nels at Frank Lumber. My wife and I had been in two years ago and talked to him, but didn't buy anything. He remembered us though, two years later! He was very attentive to our needs and thoroughly answered all of my questions. The turnaround for their door matching service was great... I was without a front door for less than an hour an the fit was correct on the first try. When we picked up our new door we were well briefed on all the steps we would have to take to finish it, and the conveniently had everything on hand that we would need. The sales people have very little knowledge and even less patience. I expect door experts to be able to answer basic questions like "would you recommend a wood or fiberglass door for insulation and durability?" Instead of answering the question they said well here are some wood doors and here are some fiberglass options. So I asked a more specific question "what are the R-values for these doors". They said I don't know but you can look it up on the manufacture's website. I didn't drive all the way there to turn around go home and open my computer. So I called back with more questions "how much to frame a door blank?" and the answer outright snarky and rude. I thought this was a service industry. read more

I purchased a front door from here for $1400, and once it was built and I came to pick it up. I noticed they had mounted it as a right hand door when I had ordered a left hand door, which is what my invoice stated as well. Then to fox their mistake, they charged me $65, and since they had to swap the mantel to the other side of the door which was glued and stapled on, meant that now I couldn't stain my door as I had planned to do and my only option is now painting it since there is white bondo all over the front of it. When you pay this much for a door, you hope the company knows their right from their left. read more

Two years ago our dishwasher burned up causing smoke damage throughout the upstairs, which had to be mostly rebuilt down to the sticks. Our front door was a double-door with glass panels, really classic and vintage 1968. Frank has an incredible selection and we found exactly what we were looking for, new front doors with glass window panels, only now the glass is double-pane low e glass in a pair of damn sturdy front doors. The 1968 look is maintained but with improved energy efficiency. We were just back again to find a new back door and picked out a fiberglass door with a window that has a blinds insert and we'll also get a pet door, just like the old 1968 downstairs back door only much improved. The customer service is excellent and staffed by knowledgeable people who know their doors and go the extra mile. The selection of doors and hardware will blow your mind. read more

These guys were awesome! The Hubby and I came to pick out doors and hardware. After speaking to Bob and having him show us stuff he realized we were after something different and immediately explained what extra stuffed we'd need and showed us his current inventory. He went through and explained the pros and cons of each option and showed us hardware to match. He gave us a timeline that ended up not being right - it actually took a few weeks longer than stated, but that's not his fault. Our door guy also did a great job installing everything in one day. I couldn't be happier with my doors. They look great, the hardware matches perfectly, and I don't have to look at the washer dryer staring at me from the closet anymore. :) read more

I have to say that I'm very disappointed of the treatment I got at this store. I walked in one day before memorial day weekend and the store manager said sorry, we are closed. I came back a week later during business hours and was able to get someone to help me find and order 4 closet doors for a total of $700, I was happy with my purchase and as I was getting ready to place the order, the same store manager (tall white middle aged man) approached me and said, alright you have to "wrap it up because we are closing" like that, I felt so disrespected that I cancelled my order. This could be such a great store if they just trained their managers to be more customer friendly and never use a language that's offensive to the customer. I would never come back here and would never recommend this place to anyone as a result of this treatment. read more

If you don't care about employees wearing masks, then shopping at Frank's Doors might be fine. While we waited for our salesperson, I counted 6 employees, all men, all inside the retail selling space, who were either not wearing masks at all or were wearing them under their noses. When one of them came down a narrow aisle towards us we each asked him to put his mask on. He completely ignored us. We will not be returning there, Covid or not. read more

I like frank lumber. They always have everything I need at a very reasonable price. But... for some odd reason, I feel like I'm bothering them every time I call or ask for help. I don't go in and knock on all the doors, kick the hinges and ask stupid questions. Or at least I don't think I ask stupid questions. Treatment could be better. In the end, the door we got was very nice, and I am very happy with it. But it was a bit of a struggle to get what I wanted. I was looking for an alternative replacement for a sliding glass door, and needed something that would hold an animal door. The "used car salesman" we had to deal with was outspokenly not animal door friendly. For that matter he was also not a particularly think outside the box person. Just reading a few of the reviews and not sure if my experience was unique or just had the only really good salesperson. I went to Frank's to buy a wood screen door (I had called before and they said they had plenty in stock in the size I needed). When i got there, multiple sales people said hello and seemed really friendly. I asked for some help and got a fellow named Bob (he called himself the 'old Bob') -- Bob was super knowledgeable, helpful and really took the time to help me choose the right door and the hardware. I was really impressed that he went the extra mile -- even having the door trimmed right there and loaded it in my truck (he even gave me a bungy cord to use to keep the hatch down). Super nice guy. This was the kind of service that makes me go to small shops like Frank's as opposed to the Home Depots or Lowes. I had called Home Depot before I went to Franks and had a miserable experience on the phone (long wait times, no one called me back, etc.) Again, not sure if my experience was unique but I really was impressed with the service, quality of product and knowledge at Franks. read more

This place is the worst. They're nearly the only game in town and they know it. They've botched three doors that we've tried to buy. This last time they said that the simple single panel door we wanted could be matched to the old door and ready for pickup in a matter of hours. They never called us when it was ready (we pre-paid) and when my husband called and confirmed it was ready over a week later, he asked why they never called us and the sales rep hung up on him! When we got the door home, we discovered that they didn't follow our instruction on cutting the length from the bottom of the door and clearly didn't bother to use the hardware we left with them to drill the holes for the hinges. I'll fill the holes and re-drill them myself before trying to deal with these morons again. read more

We paid top dollar for new locks and doorknobs. a few weeks later we had to call a locksmith who told us the locks they sold us were "very cheap quality:" So we wound up with poor quality merchandise at a "premium" price. I began my journey at Franks on August 9th this year. Ordered 2 French doors to replace existing ones with Gene. When I brought my doors in to be used as templates the cutter informed my husband and I that we should go with a different sized glass. We went back home with my old ones and we rehung them. New doors arrived to Franks a couple of weeks later and we again removed our doors and dropped them off. Picked up all the new and old door on the 24th of August. When we tested them we found they had not completely worked the striker hole and my husband had to drill and notch it so we could mount our hardware. Only a minor irritant. Wood doors need extra care so we hung the old ones back on again. 2 coats of primer, 2 coats of paint (exterior) and 2 coats of stain (interior) and we were ready to hang our new doors. In the cleaning process, we noticed tape adhesive of some sort within the glass panes. How does this not pass multiple places of quality control??? I was able to send a picture and we were told we could return the door or have new glass ordered. I thought it would be just as easy and time efficient to order new glass. This order was placed 9/12 for the glass. Weeks later we were schedule on Sep 21 to have the glass installed. Thankfully the installer noticed the wrong color backing around glass frames. Back to Franks for another order to be placed. Quality control issues again??? Multiple phone calls to Franks. Everyone else was the cause of the delay...no ownership or reasonable customer service during this time. Finally on the 21st of October ( 1 month later ) my new glass was installed. Howard, who installed it (not a Frank's employee) was AWESOME! Of course we were now into rainy October so a make shift leantoo was created so we could PRIME and PAINT AGAIN. Really....if I had to do it over again I'd really rethink Franks. I have had good experience in the past but feel that they just don't care about the customer. read more
