Our family celebrated an early Father's Day last night. We had a round table for 6 upstairs by the beautiful window. Our server was lovely. She was personable knowledgeable & helpful. Cocktails were great & perfect for toasting! Apps were good except the lobster bisque & gazpacho was too heavy on salt. Shrimp scampi was anazing. Main dishes ranged from excellent to ok. For a steak restaurant prep could have been better. Some steaks were well done when ordered medium. Veal chop was well done as well when ordered medium. Sides were really good and desserts were yummy and surrounded by flaming shooting flames! Lots of fun! read more

Went for Christmas Eve (which I knew was going to be tough given the holiday) ordered a porterhouse for two (medium) that came out still moo'ing.. with truffle fries (that were soggy and cold) and creamed spinach (that had a consistency of soup). Now, the waiter was nice enough to realize everything looked awful- we didn't have to say anything.. so he took it back to cook and brought back "new" sides.. which may have been reheated in a microwave for :10 seconds for all we know. Steak lacked flavor,you had To "saw" through the filet, it was hands down one of the worst meals put on table. Not only did it come back worse than before.. we attempted to suck it up and at least use their house sauce.. which made things even worse. Awesome. Onward. We asked for check and instead of waiter asking the manager to make things right- they through in a to-go box and charged us for everything. Classy joint. We had dinner on New Year's Eve and it was absolutely horrible for a Steakhouse and I have been to many Steakhouses across the country and a regular at many of them. The menu was their normal menu which was absolutely fine with our party, so that was not the problem. Our plates presentations made our choices look even worse than they were. Small Steaks sitting on white oval plates with no thing more than a garnish. Not cooked to order made it even worse. I had a Veal Chop which was awful and not served or cut in the traditional way fine dining restaurants do it and was thick but well charred but not a Tomahawk Chop for the money. My date had a filet sitting on an empty plate also with a silly garnish. Which again was grilled awfully and we both had side baked potatoes. The potatoes were burnt on the outside and hard on the inside. No such thing as a loaded baker at this restaurant. Both potatoes were exactly the same and too hard on the outside and too hard on the inside to cross cut and squeeze to add the sour crème. No butter and no other offered fixings. I have never seen bakers cooked or presented so poorly and this restaurant needs a proper recipe for making a baked potato. My other guest had Lamb Chops which were all over the plate sitting in what looked like a mess of vegetables or something and he ordered a side of asparagus. The Asparagus were large and not plated appetizing to the eyes and they were not cut at the bottoms. Wow!! I don't know who was in the kitchen tonight on grill or who was expediting food but not one plate should have left the kitchen. The service was very good and I felt bad for them to have to serve such awful food and we tipped them based on their service and did not punish them for the food experience The beverages were made well too. We ate here last night and while the staff was overly ambitious to take our drink order, once we received our drinks we waited for over 20 minutes to place our order. When our salads arrived, after 2 bites I noticed a hair in my salad. I alerted the waiter who took my plate away; he never brought me another salad or asked if I wanted a new one. Disgusting. We have Morton's and also Benjamin's close to home; but Rye has a quaint feel that I like. Plus, when Mr. Man gets a craving for a great steak, he always comes here. According to my husband, F & J, delivers outstanding steaks every time. We've had dinner downstairs and feel it's more casual than their upstairs. In any case, our server (who waited on us several months ago), seemed frazzled by a party of 6 a few feet away from us. At one point, I was a bit ticked off and it downright felt, like we were not the flavor of the day- if you know what I mean. Getting his attention, was nearly impossible and seemed, he was at their beck and call the whole evening. Mind you, he'd have to bypass our table just to get to that bigger party. What a great spot! I sat at the bar. The ambience was terrific, and there was a very friendly vibe. The service was great. Women of a certain age often complain that they are invisible. I never had such a glaring example as I did last night at Frankie & Johnnie's. I was with my husband, son & granddaughter. My granddaughter wanted a glass of lemonade. I signaled repeatedly to the wait staff to come over. Four, one woman, three men, were standing unoccupied, together, behind a service station, 25 feet away. No one came over until my son turned around to signal them. Really???? The restaurant had only two occupied tables. For the record, I'm 74 years old. Other than that incident - the service was efficient but not friendly. The attitude was: I'm doing this but I'd rather be elsewhere. I liked the dark steakhouse decor. The maitre d' was welcoming. My fellow diners liked their filet mignon. My husband didn't think his lobster ravioli was first rate (especially for the price); I liked my shrimp scampi. The prices were high. If you are a steak & potatoes person, not a woman over 65, and have money to burn, I would recommend it. For those with more sophisticated palates and for an attentive wait staff no matter what your age, go elsewhere. read more

We went there for lunch, but they gave us the higher priced Dinner menu. We then asked for the cheaper lunch menu. It was not busy at the time, but the waiter never came by to refill our water nor did I get my Coke that I ordered. He never asked how the food was or it we needed anything else. When I got the bill, I noticed he charged me for the Coke, and when I requested that he removed the charge since I never received the drink, he didn't even offered an apology. I didn't eat my Bacon Cheeseburger since it was extremely salty. I mentioned it to another waiter & she said ok, expecting an adjustment/refund on the order, but didn't get it and I paid full price for something I couldn't eat. Upon exiting the restaurant- no apologies or good bye or thank you for your patronage. I have not visited this restaurant for many years because of the poor service or bad food but my friend wanted to go there for lunch, so I figured to give it another try. PART TWO: Our entrées came out a little quicker than the apps. I think they staff felt our collective impatience and frustration. Our strip steaks were cooked to temp. They looked a little long in the tooth. The cuts looked crappy, like something we would have gotten from Applebee's; not at all what we expected to have served to us, and my son's filet mignon medallions tasted like Salisbury steak. I don't know any steakhouse that would desecrate such a fine cut of meat by slicing it up so thin and coating it in such a thick, overpowering sauce. The finale were the desserts. By this course, I was through. I asked for my dinner to get packed up as well as my Crème Bruleé. I was done. Even with my gift card prize, we managed to spend over one hundred dollars but I wish we had just gotten through the meal that was covered and left it at that. All in all, the food was 'ok'. As I said before, my husband and I dined here before and we had a much better meal and more attentive service the first time around. Unfortunately, this time left much to be desired. The service was abysmal and you could tell that the menu items were tailored for a discounted meal. Utterly disappointing and I doubt we will return. If you can't get the same quality meal during a promotion as any other day, it doesn't make sense to even waste your time returning for a regular meal. These event are to showcase a restaurant's best so that they promote return business. Some places are content with the patronage they already possess and obviously don't need new business. Not much inside at all and that's it. I've had way better for much less. Highly recommend staying away from that. The service varied from nice to snobby to stand offish, especially the bus boy. Wouldn't break a smile or utter a word. Then one of the staff had the nerve to say, "no protein tonight" as if it were a problem we were not ordering a steak. We don't eat red meat. Steakhouse #8 in my series of 12 Non-chain Steakhouses exist outside of NYC in New York? For the most part, whenever, I'm in Westchester hankering for steak, I'd go to Outback or Morton's. On my final legs of my 12 and 12, I thought I'd forgo the chains and explore which led me to my FIRST Westchester steak destination, Frankie and Johnnie's I really didn't take too much inventory when going into the place (I was hungry), but what struck me as unique were the big candles and melted wax on the second floor display and their cozy booths. I'm not a booth guy because I don't like sinking into my seat when having a meal, but theirs were definitely firm. One quick vibe I got was that this place attempted to upgrade classic steakhouse décor, possibly to appeal to all age groups. Since I was hungry and in no mood to wait, I took a look at the specials and ordered for the table. (It was a Bro-date with an old friend) To start, we ordered the Bacon and Mussels, entrée Bone-In Filet (medium rare) with Creamed spinach and Asparagus. The Mussels were like juicy morsels of goodness! I think I could have eaten 3 more bowls myself. The bacon was just ok. I was so enamored by the mussels, I think it may have clouded my palate though. The Bone-In Filet was seasoned well and tasted great, however my steak was a bit more rarer than I ordered (which was medium rare). It was extremely red around the bone. I've never had a Filet with the bone still there and maybe this is how it's prepared, but it just seemed odd to me. Luckily, I like steak more on the rare side and gobbled it up. Since it was an early dinner reservation, there were no problems with the performance of the front of the house. I felt we were 'attended to' properly. Pricewise, this place is on the expensive side. But for the food, it's worth it. Don't get me wrong, unless you have the money, this place WILL put more than a dent in your wallet. (It was about $120 a person with my friend only drinking beer.) But, for a special occasion, it's a place I'm going to add to my food rolodex. read more

Service was slow in spite of the many waiters, busters, runners, etc. I asked the server if the kitchen was in the weeds. His response was "not really", but I am. So....everyone was in the weeds. Took forever to place orders. Too long between apps and mains. Meat was either over- or under- cooked. Ordered coffee and dessert. 3 Capps came and were barely room temp. Same for espresso. My wife and I had the pleasure of a New Year's Eve dinner with friends at Frankie and Johnnie's. Because of Covid, we have forgotten what it's like to really enjoy a meal out at a fancy restaurant. Frankie and johnnies did not disappoint. Or appetizers were a fantastic Caesar salad and she had the veal meatballs, which she could not stop raving about. For entrees, I had the ribeye with the standard sides (Hash brown potatoes and creamed spinach). She had the seafood pasta Fra D'Avalo. Both were fantastic and I had a large piece of steak to take home for the next day. Drinks were appropriately strong and service was impeccable. I said no to desert but she and her friend shared a chocolate lava cake which they said was fantastic. It was a non-rushed, fine dining experience Which we appreciate it even more due to the Covid home confinement. We're definitely coming back here at least once a month to recharge our culinary batteries. read more
