Best sandwich rolls ever!! I was able to get them fresh out of the oven and they were so soft and warm. I bought 2 bags with about 6 rolls each to feed a group of people. The compliments on the bread kept coming. These are way better than the store bought kind. They also have bread loafs, French bread, baguettes, desserts and more. Definitely worth the stop. The jalapeño cheddar rolls are the best!! I don't think you can go wrong with any of their breads they are all fresh and so good. It's not advertised but they also sell fresh dough if you want to bake your own bread at home or make pizzas with it, they only accept cash. read more

The bread here is amazing! Fresh, flavorful, soft, chewy, so delicious! I got to experience the sourdough rolls at a family holiday get-together. I had to find out where I could buy them. We went early Saturday morning, just a little after opening and some items were already nearly gone. Stocked up on all the flavor of rolls and some sliced bread. There are many desserts to choose from as well. I'm not a sweet tooth, so skipped on those. Save the cards for the bread! If you go, take cash, since it's a cash-only place. The aroma of fresh bread is worth a trip. We bought one loft of Italian, one loaf of white and a dozen jalapeno cheddar rolls.. They all were outstanding and as fresh as you could get. I saw this delicious cheese danish on a fellow Yelper's review and I just had to have it! Since I was at the Grossmont Center, I figure I could swing by and pick that up and maybe some other goodies. Frank is located in Spring Valley, and since I don't come out here, at all, this was an adventure. When I parked, there was a woman waiting in her car, the doors were open, and there was a counter, but no one was there. So I started looking at what I was going to buy, and there's a lot! Finally, the worker came out with an order for the woman waiting. Another woman walked up and asked if she could go ahead of me since I was still looking through the window at what they had. When I was ready, I asked for the cheese danish, chocolate croissant, bear claw, eclair, a box of the Italian cookies, and Me: What just came out of the oven? He: The small loaves Me: I'll take those too! He: plain or seeded? Those small loaves were hot and he gave them to me in a paper bag and gave me a plastic bag, for "after they cool off." I couldn't help myself on the drive home, I had to eat one and it was sooooooooo good! My whole car smelled like baked bread! Loved the cheese danish! Bear Claw delicious! Really good eclair! The chocolate croissant wasn't as flaky as I thought it could be but was good. And the variety of cookies will please anyone! Next time I'll have to get the chocolate biscotti! Small Italian bakery with great quality breads. You could tell everything was made fresh and it tasted so much better than a store. Another great find on Campo Road. As you approach the door, an intense aroma of fresh baked bread hits you. We tried a few different options, but the sandwich rolls are our favorite. It pairs really nice a smoked brisket I made. The bread is obviously fresh and very reasonably priced. They are cash only, so be prepared. Both times we arrived near opening time at noon, so I'm not sure if they sell out or still have offerings later in the day. I went in to buy rolls to go with our Thanksgiving leftovers and walked out with rolls, a loaf of sourdough bread, a loaf of rosemary-olive bread, a chocolate croissant (from the refrigerated case), and a box of six hefty chocolate-covered biscotti. When I got home I passed out buttered pieces of the super-fresh rosemary-olive bread and everyone loved it. :-) You might want to bring extra cash so you can pick up something new to try. No such luck! Apparently they used to make it.... But no one bought it or like it! Really?!? So no focaccia bread here! My search for that continues... Gibaldi's is a rare treat in San Diego -- an Italian bread bakery comparable to the ones back east.  This is a wholesale bakery that supplies bread, rolls and sweets to restaurants throughout San Diego County.  It also has a small retail shop in the front.   We've tried several different breads, rolls, and sweets.  All have been terrific.  One of our favorite Italian sweets are pignoli cookies,  which are hard to find.   Gibaldi's has them,  and they are great!  For a recent party, I ordered 5 pounds (2 of which I've frozen for another day). Found this gem in the Campo area and so glad we did. I am a fresh baked bread lover and as soon as we got close to the main door you can just smell all the freshness coming from the building! The building is huge but the store part of the company is very small. Just racks upon racks of fresh baked bread to choose from. We were informed they just added a pastry chef so they now have baked cookies available too! Ms. Gina was a sweetheart! We inquired if she had cheese jalepeno bread and she informed us of the different style breads the bake. She was even so kind enough to grab me a fresh baguette from the back. This is Frank's & Gibaldi's new location with a proper store front in the community of Casa de Oro located in the unincorporated city of Spring Valley. They bake the bread and you buy it fresh of the trays in the store front. It does not get any fresher than this. I picked up a freshly baked Italian baguette for only $2 and a sliced wheat loaf for $3. The baguette I enjoyed at home almost immediately. I took a generous slice, halved it and patted some organic butter on it, put some sliced Provolone cheese, and then sprinkled a dried garlic and herb mixture on to. I put it in the toaster oven for 20 minutes and 350 degrees and when it came out, there was magic. The baguette offered a great thin crusty exterior with a soft moist and almost soft chewy center. I loved it and it was very tasty as well. The baguette would suffice as simple table bread to be dredged in olive oil with a touch of balsamic, for hoagies and such, and to be real, just eating at room temp on its own. It was that good. The whole wheat slice is great sandwiches and toast. It offers a great natural wheat flavor and is moist. They offer a great selection of baked Italian Breads and Rolls. read more

I am all about service... not going back while the blonde lady is working...I think the reviews say her name is Gina... she is rude, condescending, and very passive aggress. She has been rude to my mom who comes from out of town to visit. The fact that my mom feels scared to go is not okay! My mom once asked for the "walnut cranberry wheat bread" and Gina gave her a total attitude and said "well we don't have that kind of bread here" and then my mom said "yes I got it here once" and cashier said "no, not here" with an attitude... she knew what my mother was asking for... but was being rude....Gina could have said "we have one without walnut" I always try to go when she is not there. I wouldn't go out of my way to get to this place. In addition, be forewarned: don't go when the cashier is in a bad mood - she will ruin the entire experience for you. And from the other reviews I've seen for Gibaldi's, I'm not the only one who feels this way. She made me feel like I was crossing the border into the U.S. - the border agents hold all of the power and if you get on their bad side it's all over - and she truly made me regret even going near the place. If you can stomach the cashier, then take the risk and try the bread. Hopefully you arrive on a good day. If not, you might leave understanding why tigers eat their young, or why Jesus wept, or why the caged bird sings, or, well, you get the idea. Don't believe the negative reviews... My boyfriend and I pass this place everyday and finally stopped in. The smell when you first walk in is AMAZING, you'll never want store bought bread again. Their Italian bread is delicious! I never thought I could find such good bread outside NY. The bread is freshly made and is the perfect taste and texture. The staff was really sweet and gave me a hug loaf for a $1.50. I will definitely go back to this place when I'm in town. Just a quick FYI though don't expect to find a store counter when you go in. I went in during the whole COVID-19 crisis. I thought it'd be the perfect time to try the bread and support a local business. While in line a homeless woman came up and I'm not sure what the conversation sounded like, I only caught the end, the lady told her to take the bread it was on the house. Fresh baked bread....what can be better? I stop there once a week for rye bread & sourdough rolls, most of the time the bread is still warm from the oven. Nice blonde lady (Gina) selling the bread gets a lot of flac over her attitude it goes both ways when dealing with idiot customer's all day.
