Bottom Line: Franks Bicycles has got to be, hands down, the best bike shop in the area. While the shop isn't big or the flashiest, it has the best customer service I have ever experience. While most bike shops generally have a staff composed of elitist cyclist who're generally extremely snobby, my experience at Franks Bicycles has been nothing put superb, and I was treated extremely well here. I initially came into the store just to check it out to see what they had and the prices and talked to Frank for about 30 minutes before I left. I came back weeks later to get my bike checked out after getting into an accident with a car. Frank was super cool on helping me out, he realigned my wheels for $25 and went the extra mile by adjusting everything else that he saw was wonky on the bike for no extra charge. The process was same day repair and super quick. Judging from the work that he did on my bike, I wouldn't hesitate bringing my bike back for any repairs or modifications that I'd make on my bike. I'm stoked right now because my girlfriend and I both just scored sweet deals on killer bikes! Frank's the kinda dude who you hope to find when you go shopping for something that is not cheap and want friendly service and honest advice. FRANK IS THE BOMB! I live in San Diego but the bike shops around my school seemed overpriced so I decided to haul my road bike home during the holidays and try out franks place. HE FREAKING DELIVERED. my bike was in terrible shape, basically everything that could be replaced needed to be replaced, and the gears weren't changing properly. Since I was short on money, I decided to hold off on changing a few things. The tune up was $39.95 which was $20 less than the bike shop in San Diego and he did an excellent job with changing both my tires. Then he threw in free brake pads and FREE PEDDLES. Not only that but frank was nice enough to wait and keep his shop open for a few minutes after closing time because I was running late. GREAT PRICE AND GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT IS UNPARALLELED!! Frank is a very cool small business owner. He tuned up my bike from Target a couple of months ago. The bike performed perfectly after. After deciding that I love to ride a bike, I went in to purchase a cooler looking but still enjoyable bike. (Just for comparison sake, I went to the other well known bike shop in Whittier... I won't elaborate other than saying it was a bigger shop, but a total trainwreck.) I went back to Frank's and he had the PERFECT bike for me. I'm so happy. Such a great find. He threw in some super fun extras, and he's a really likable person. As if I'm not happy enough with the product he sold me and the service he provided my other bike, he actually cares about the youth of Whittier. He helps kids interested in cycling by helping them acquire reasonable parts for their bikes to keep them active. So glad that I have an awesome bike shop right by my house. Sometimes when you read Yelp reviews and they're five-star all the way around, you go in expecting too much only to become disappointed. Not so, Frank's Bicycles. Despite being located in the area for years, Frank's Bicycles was an unknown to me, discovered only after I tired of the "attitude" at other cyclery shops in Whittier and surrounding communities and came back to Yelp after a long hiatus and began looking for alternatives. Frank's isn't the largest bicycle shop you'll find --- although they recently moved into a larger space in the same strip mall --- but it's certainly the friendliest. In a typical bike shop the pros working the floor don't seem all that enthused about helping customers with a retail-store bike brand, such as Schwinn or Huffy. At Frank's, no problem. The owner personally tuned my multi-speed beach cruiser in a matter of minutes, just shy of closing (we called beforehand and nonetheless were told, "Come on in!"). As if friendly, knowledgeable service isn't enough, the prices are competitive too. What's not to love? When and where it counts, Frank's delivers. My spouse and I will be bringing in our bikes for all our tuning and maintenance needs. I only wish we had discovered Frank's Bicycles sooner! read more

It's natural to be suspect of repeated 5 Star Yelp Reviews as one wonders if the reviewers have a vested interest in doing so outside of a customer relationship-- are they friends or relatives of the business, etc.? This is certainly not the case with Frank's Bicycles. The service and product live up to the ratings. I took my 25 year old GT Mountain Bike to Frank's shop in Whittier. The bike had been hanging upside down in a garage for the past 20 years. I wasn't even sure if the bike could be resurrected into working condition. I spoke with Frank Jr. and he happily offered to examine the bike and give a free estimate. He secured the bike to his repair stand and proceeded to perform a series of tests to determine the condition of the bike. He did his entire evaluation right in front of me and, at the same time, explained what he was doing and showed me each area that needed attention and why. I was pleasantly surprised to see Frank's reaction to the condition of the bike-- he wasn't fazed at all and didn't think there was anything wrong with the bike beyond normal wear and tear. I was even more surprised to hear Frank conclude that it only needed a basic tune up to get me back on the road. So we began discussing the scope of the work and he said if I wanted to get the bike back to Like New condition, he could perform a major tune up, but still insisted that a basic tune up would do the job just fine. We discussed my riding habits, skills, and needs to determine the appropriate parts to use during the tune up-- all of which contributed to my confidence that Frank really put the customer and their needs first. We agreed on the major tune up (my preference, not his) and parts, then Frank wrote up a detailed, line item estimate showing the complete breakdown of the total cost. I would have normally received my bike back the same day, but I came into the store a half hour before closing. He said he could have the work completed the next day, even though they were only open for a couple hours Sunday's. I told him to take his time as I was not in a rush and wanted to allow enough time to perform a thorough tune up-- so we agreed on Monday. Even though I was not able to pick up my bike on Monday... or Tuesday... Frank cheerfully repeated that it was no problem and to pick it up whenever was convenient for me. When I picked up my bike on Wednesday, he said to take it out for a ride to make sure the work was done as expected, everything was in working order, and that I was satisfied with the work. I was definitely more than satisfied with the work-- the bike was like new again. Actually, it worked better than when I bought it since the technology of bicycle parts have improved quite a bit in the past quarter century. I agree with the other reviewers who commented how other bike shops are filled with employees with attitude who make you feel as though you are not worthy enough as a bike rider for them to be giving you their attention (and try to sell you more than you need). Frank is the enemy of such apathy and mediocrity and the cure to the problem. Save yourself the time, money, and hassle of going somewhere else-- and take your bike to Frank's. You'll be glad you did. read more

The Skinny: Needed a cassette to be replaced on a wheel. Wheel is quite vintage and normally I would be able to fix it, but I did not have the tool for it. Frank fixed it for me and it seriously took 5 minutes for him to look at it, figure which tool, popped it out and put in the new one. The Fat: I went in the first day but Frank wasn't in the store. His employee up front helped me and took down my information. Gave me a few tips on wheels and derailers. The problem was that my 5 speed cassette stopped working and spun both ways. I came back the next day and Frank explained the reason why it was hard to obtain new 5 speeds because it being almost obsolete in bike design. He popped in a cheaper 6 speed (definitely works, already riding my bike around). Good, fast service. He doesn't push you to buy stuff, he only recommends but will be happy to sell you what you want to buy. Tip: Call in the shop to check if Frank will be in. The employees are also very helpful, but sometimes you'll need Frank for the prices and it's best to just go in when he's present. read more

I came to visit Frank's based on the great positive reviews he has received. I was in the market for an electric bicycle but did not know which one I wanted. Luckily, when I went to the store, the owner Frank was there. He was very professional, provided great explanations in the different types of bikes they carried, and even let me test one out in the parking lot in front. I was sold, and wanted to buy one on the spot. Unfortunately, I did not have a big enough car to take this bicycle home, but the owner Frank was so generous to offer to drop it off himself after he closed the shop. That is a level of customer commitment that I would never be able to find at a big box store. I truly appreciate Frank for the amazing service and wonderful bicycle that I purchased. I'd leave a zero but yelp doesn't allow it. Went in today looking to buy 4 bikes, possibly. My wife found one she liked right away. There were only two employees working so we were happy to wait our turn. There was one person before us. We waited about 8-10 minutes. About the time that the manager type guy was thru with his customer another young man came in and went right to the counter and chats him up. As he walked to help the person in front of us, he told the other employee that was now thru to help the new customer with his tire. I stood there looking at them both, and surmized that my $$ was no good here as I guess I didn't fit the "neighborhood" profile. Keep in mind neither employee spoke to us at any time. Great guy, always come to his shop to see what new, he always informs me when the next shipment comes. Prices are reasonable, has mostly what your looking for in bmx, just wish he had way more brands available but it's only fair because alot of the things dont sell if he does get more brands to sell, but over all great guy, will get your parts shipped quickly, I hope to be apart of Frank's team one day. I want to take a sec to write a quick reveiw. Took my PARKPRE mountain bike in to get some work done, seat,grips, finger lever gear switches wobbly back whell and handlebars. I know I know nothing really complicated, but what set this shop apart for me was the great Custoner Service and the cost of materials and labor. also one more thing, shop closes at 6, but he stayed over to finish the bike. So I call on Thursday and asked about a tune up for an old bike I had in storage. I asked if I can drop it off Friday and have it back before he closes and he accommodated my urgency to have my bike back asap. So I took my spider webbed filled, rusty chained, messed up derailer, and flat tire bike to him. I got a called from him around 3pm which was a great turn around considering how bad of a shape I brought it to him. When I got to the shop my bike looked great... He couldn't tune the derailer and so he replaced it... I didn't have a problem with that. I asked him what a my total he then proceeded to tell me that he was only gonna charge me for what he quoted me on. Frank is the definition of great customer service that so many places and especially a bike shop lack! Bought my Trek and always stood by Fullerton Bike shop in fullerton for some time now. Never had any problems and customer service is great, the guys are all really nice, but I've notice within time from stoping by for tune ups or flats if your not really riding a 1,000 plus bike and up to paying lots of money then they kinda treat you not so courteous and take more time with those kind of customers. And keep in my mind I have a few friends that have had the same experience, seems like the more they get hyped around town they're egos in the store have gone up too..not like when mike was always around and just a down to earth guy. So in my search for a new bike shop after taking in my bike after three flats and inner tube change with FB, I tried out Franks and wow great service, fixed up my brake lines too and got some new pedals at a great price! Called the store up explained that I had lost the flange nut that holds the left crank arm in place and Frank said come right down and he'll take a look at it. I drove down there and walked in and noticed the shop was clean and we'll organized. Frank was very friendly and was at the time helping another customer. As soon as he was done he helped me out no problem gave me a pair of the flange nuts I needed the exact same ones. He also took a look at the crank arm and showed me how it was stripped on the inside and that there would be 85% chance that I would have to comeback. So i purchased the crank arm went home have been using the bike since and have had no problems since. Definitely have and will be recommending this store to friends and relatives.
