Frank's Diner is Washington's oldest dining car restaurant (the railcar was manufactured in 1906 and converted into a diner in 1931) and was voted the best breakfast spot in Spokane by the local publication Inlander. While this Downtown location is the flagship diner, Frank's Diner also opened a second location in North Spokane. [Parking]: The diner has a designated parking lot and I had no issue finding an available spot at 6 PM on a weekday. [Atmosphere]: Upon entering, there is a sign stating that the diner serves "15 thousand eggs and 3 tons of hash browns per month." The railcar has a great retro vibe and visitors can choose between bar seating and table seating. [Menu]: Yelp's top recommended items include Eggs Benedict and Chicken-Fried Steak. Breakfast favorites are served with hashbrowns or fruit and a choice of toast. There is also no extra charge for adding gravy or grilled onions to your hashbrowns. Do yourself a favor and choose the hashbrowns and also ask to add gravy on hashbrowns. *** Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs (Half-pound crispy chicken fried steak with cream gravy and two eggs - sunny side, gravy on hashed brown, biscuit - $22.00): My waitress, Jenn, recommended the biscuit so I went with it. The hashbrowns were absolutely heavenly - crispy on the edges and moist on the inside. It was hands down one of the best hashbrowns I have ever had. The gravy was silky smooth. And holy crap the biscuit was a home run - ultra fluffy + amazing tasting jam (not overly sweet). The portion was so large that I had enough leftovers for the next day. *** It was an unexpected find in Spokane and absolutely S-tier for both food quality and service. In fact, I think the food here is better than many classic and upscale breakfast spots in Los Angeles. Absolutely a must-visit in Spokane.

Listened to allll the hype and decided to make a quick pit stop in Spokane to eat a real meal mid road trip lol All the locals rec'd franks for breakfast/brunch and I now see why but here are my takeaways from breakfast 1) plenty of parking 2) busy asf lol. But they have tables + bar seating and will get ya seated asap 3) they could prob use one more server to assist w the load, but every worker was quick + efficient 4) food was schmackin' I ordered a boar bacon benny w hashbrowns -- killed it all in minutes, just throw some hot sauce over them thangss 5) fairly priced 6) unique setting lol

Conveniently located blocks from I-90 and downtown Spokane on 2nd Ave, Frank's Diner is the go to spot for scratch made breakfast, lunch and dinner. An icon of Spokane, nestled on the corner backed up against an active railroad this gem gives a nostalgic vibe from the minute you park. Service is great but the wait is quite long as it is a very popular place. Expect long wait times. Food is so yummy and your coffee cup does not run empty. Waite staff time of service runs decades long proving loyalty and pride in serving the public. This is a must!

Just visit Frank's Diner for the ambience, service, old world charm and for the love of locomotive The open kitchen and Victorian era styled booths add to the character, all one needs is to be dressed for the occasion. The food was fresh and delicious. You can see it's a favourite with the regular locals as well. The diner being inside a train bogie, the space is tight and compact.

The interior is so unique and the atmosphere is nice. The service was great, as well as the food.

Found the location through Yelp and saw that it is basically an old train car. You walk in and there is counter which probably was a bar when it was a functioning train car. After the counter there are a few booths on both sides of an aisle. I sat at the counter and checked out the menu. I saw items that I never had so I went with the boar bacon, eggs, potatoes (with gravy and grilled onions), and biscuit. The bacon was very similar to what we typically eat but with less fat. The potatoes were really good though it was a lot. What I liked about the biscuit was that they cut it in half and grilled it. Yummy. I also purchased a bag of their pancake batter that is a recipe from 1886.

What a fun experience! A must in Spokane. This restaurant is inside of an old dining car and has been in business since 1931! The inside as shown in my picture is very charming and old timey. Allow time to wait for a table unless you are just one or two like I was and able to grab a seat at the bar. I was able to sit immediately. The staff is very amiable and the hostess made the recommendation that I try the Caprese Benedict, which had fried tomatoes in place of bread, fresh basil and blood orange balsamic drizzle. They offer the option of one or two Benedict, which is nice if you aren't super hungry. They also give the option to smother the hashbrowns and cheese, which I obviously opted into. The menu is absolutely massive though, so if Benedict's or even breakfast aren't your jam, you should be able to find something that suits your fancy. Also worth noting that they offer a very wide variety of gourmet flavors of house-made juices (7 or 8) for mimosas, like honeydew melon mint which I tried as a soda with soda water since I was driving.

Frank's Diner is a classic no-frills breakfast spot set inside a vintage railcar, and it was hands down my favorite breakfast spot during my visit to Spokane. The crispy fried deviled eggs were incredibly unique and absolutely delicious--I could have easily ordered another round. The food was hearty, flavorful, and exactly what you want from a great diner breakfast. The staff was friendly, attentive, and quick, making the experience even better. This is one of those places that lives up to the hype, and I would definitely come back again on my next trip.

Such a cool spot! There was a definitely a bit of a wait with it being Friday, but I'd say it's worth it. It also takes a while depending on your server so for the best experience go when you have a free morning. The food was all tasty, nothing over the top and experimental lol, just classic diner food. For the vibes and decent prices, highly recommend going if you find the time.

Downtown diner that is an old rail car. This place is fun. Typical diner meals, open early and serves all meals. Staff was friendly and quick to refill my coffee each time I was about 3 to 4 sips in. Stopped by for breakfast. Enjoyed a bacon, egg, and hash brown dish. Bacon here is a thick cut and yumm! Great stop and will be sure to stop in again when in the area. Thank you Frank's.

Very good food, friendly service and good portions. Prices are comparable for the servings. Place is clean, servers are nice, and everything is pretty much ready at the table. Highly recommend if you're in Spokane

We had a truly incredible experience at Frank's diner. We cannot thank our server, Melissa, more for the exemplary service that she provided. She truly may have been one of the best servers I've ever had at any establishment. Melissa was kind to us, and very throughful. She recommended some delightful strawberry jam and we never went without anything we needed. She even brought out some local hot sauce for us if we wanted to try in addition to our requested chalula and it was great! The food was amazing, I love when establishments don't nickel and dime their guests, and so seeing that you could add grilled onions on the hash browns without an additional charge made me feel cared for and I'm appreciative that the staff and management seems to really appeal to their customer base. Everything was absolutely delicious. Janelle also checked on us and was kind enough to ask about the details of the bacon when we were curious about what kind it was because it was great! I overheard that it was only her third day and am amazed at how much she cared for the guests while being so new. These ladies deserve some major praise for their hospitality and I will definitely be back again and again after such a great morning. Thank you all!

Have been to Franks a few times when visiting my daughter. We try to always go to Franks on our visit. Excellent diner food. Wait staff always have bright shining attitudes and honestly this goes a long way. Franks is in a a railcar. The car was in Seattle for sometime until they lost there lease. Seattle's loss is Spokane's gain. Yummy food, great variety, this needs to be a stop if you are going through or stopping in Spokane.

Ask the Community - Frank's Diner

Should you make reservations or is the wait not that long?

This place does not accept reservations. It's an old school diner where you show and hope there is no line. I went midweek and had to wait a few minutes but ended up sitting on the bar stool watching the cooks.

    Is this place wheelchair accessible?

Yes... there is a wheelchair accessible ramp on the opposite end of main entrance.

Does this place have vegan options? If so, what kind?

No, this is meat and potatoes country.

    Is the oatmeal sweetened?

I doubt it. you can sweeten it yourself.

It looked like they were using olives to try to cover up how the dish actually looked, which was mushy and gross. Somehow it tasted worse than it looked. The BLT had scant bacon, tons of lettuce, a few pink flavorless tomato slices and tons of bread. It fell completely apart due to not enough mayo. All I tasted was dry day old bread. The waitress kept leaning over a booth wall and across me, to present things instead of walking around a few steps to the table to complete service.
