I had a pup with me, so I sat outside on a nice September day, but there's no table service so I had to order via phone and have it delivered to me in paper cartons outside. I asked if I could get regular stone wear plates, but they indicated that it would have to be boxed which wasn't ideal (especially eating a chicken fried steak with plastic knife and fork). The steak was alright but could have used some seasonings, and the gravy was very non-descript - a bit bland. The rye toast was delicious and the hashbrowns and eggs were exceptional. Overall, I love the setting (though I didn't get to go in and check out the train car) but I got the benefit of a loud freight train going by, so it delivered on the train theme. ;) I'd like to try it when I can go in and sit down properly, but I probably wouldn't order the CFS again. read more

We went right when they opened at 6am and were the only people until 6:30 when people started flooding in. Highly recommend going early. Its a fun place to eat and they have great options for kids. Really good breakfast, very good service. Chances are high that you will have to wait to get in, but it is worth the wait. We don't live in Spokane so we haven't eaten here a lot, but every time the staff have been awesome and the food is top notch. The uniqueness of the diner being in a railroad car is really cool. There are times, special instances where travel, time & serendipity cross in that perfect moment. Such a moment happened 11/18/25. Two travelers hungry after a very early flight stumbled upon this repurposed rail car. It was like walking into Shangrila, where time stood still amidst the heady aroma of pancakes, sausage & bacon. A hive of activity where waitresses & cooks delivered upon the weary traveler the most wonderful of meals. The coffee was applied generously as were the cheerful smiles if the staff. The food was great with ample portions. The staff was efficient, friendly & service was lively. The traincar was spotless, comfortable & inviting. Excellent service from Samoana this morning. She is an absolute gem! Samoana is friendly, efficient, and attentive. These are all great customer service traits that will serve her well in any industry she chooses I stopped in for brekkie lunch after landing in Spokane for business and so glad I did! ! I did not get a photo of my food this time yet mostly want to shout out the staff. Food was cooked exactly right (hashbrowns and bacon "crisp", eggs over medium). Free (BOMB) coffee outside while you wait, trains passing by, the inside feels like you've transported into a 1950's rail car with better food and less racism. The food was so good, the deviled eggs were stellar. The caprese benedict seems weird, but it really just goes. The green tomato gives that texture you're looking for. The service was kind and quick once we got seated! And again, coffee made the wait worth it. Note: not great for big groups! I'd say a 4 person group is the most comfortable maximum. The setting is an old rail car with amazing stained glass light fixtures, brass and wood, a true step back in history. Sign said they had been serving since 1904 or so. Went on a Friday morning of a weekend trip to Spokane, sat in a booth and had a great waitress. So good, we went back again on Saturday morning! Welcome aboard. Yes, that's a strange thing to say about your breakfast restaurant but here we are in a fantastically restored vintage railcar. It dates back to manufacture in 1906 and then updating as a presidential car. And now it's a fabulous throwback to history as a modern diner. No waiting when I arrived on a weekday and a lovely woman took care of me for my breakfast. I opted for the half-sized omelet which was definitely not half-sized. There's a lot of food here with hash browns topped with their hand-made country gravy. Yes, half of this huge breakfast went into a box and became today's lunch. Warm, friendly service. Friends and I took a weekend trip to Spokane. My friend recommended we hit this unique diner in the city. I can't tell you how impressed I was with the food! It was so delicious and my friends all gave a thumbs up. It was fun sitting and watching the cooks make the meals, they definitely take pride in their cooking. We absolutely loved having Samantha as our waitress, they were professional and lovely -- we felt super comfortable and they set the vibe for us. Sitting next the door wasn't very pleasant but it was okay. Also, one of the workers was lecturing a young waitress and it was kinda awkward, and felt like we were invading their space -- they could've had these conversations somewhere else and not in front of the guests. Limited menu IMHO but it's all good, with the caveat that not much will meet your calorie or sodium hopes. Still, it's not an everyday thing for me and I don't fear the consequences of occasional. We were a group of 5 and went mid morning. It took close to an hour for us to be seated as there is literally only 1 table for 5 people in the place. I saw a larger group sat in 2 adjoining booths. Once we got in the service was excellent. The wait staff were very nice and friendly and made recommendations for us to check out in the local area. The person who I am guessing is the manager gave us a free cobbler because of how long we waited which I thought was really nice. The food was good. My meaty omelet was flavorful and cooked well. They offered extra cheese on basically anything but didn't tell us it was an extra charge. Not the first time we fell for this but just passing on the info. My family liked their food too. We finally were able to make it to Franks Diner. We have tried a couple times before but it was on weekends and it was packed. We decided to go there tonight, a Monday evening and it was perfect. Only a few people there. In fact we thought they were closed. Except for the open sign was on. We were not disappointed. Couldn't decide on a breakfast or burger. I chose the burger this time and it was really good. So big I could only eat half of it. The bun was so soft and squishy. Meat cooked to perfection and nice grilled flavor. The fries were seasoned steak sized fries and they had the best tasting tarter sauce. My husband had a chocolate shake and it was a masterpiece. ( see photo). The service from Clay and Nathan was TOP NOTCH! We had a hard time deciding what to eat and Nathan suggested the French Swiss Dip. It was so delicious! From the tender meat to the au jus.... Perfection. We are used to terrible service since the Covid era and we were pleasantly surprised by these guys. Friendly and accommodating even when they didn't have to be.
