Part of our trouble was having keys that were cut that were not exact enough to fit the lock properly, causing us to have to wiggle and jiggle the keys to get our key in AND out of the lock. As he opened up the lock he found part of a key that had broken inside, still stuck there. It was from one of the keys that didn't fit right. He cleaned and lubricated the lock, and showed me how to lubricate it myself every 6 months. Ours is an old, expensive lock that apparently has a lifetime guarantee on parts. I was so frustrated with it that I wanted to get rid of it. Earl convinced me to let him try to make it easy to use again and avoid spending a bunch of money to get a new door and lock. He also told me he wouldn't take any payment so I could see if I was happy with the lock after he worked with it, then I could decide what I wanted to do. If I still didn't want the lock, he knows someone who could put the new door and lock in. I ended up getting 6 new keys, all of them wider than normal to make it easy on the thumbs to open the lock. He even had 2 keys that are super wide, like hotel keys, and he made 2 of them so it is extremely easy for my achy fingers to open the door now. I insisted on paying him, but he only charged us for the service call and work performed, not for the keys, which was a very kind gesture. He's not out to gouge or upsell anything, only to help you get what you need. Its a no-brainer to give him a call if you need a locksmith!

So something I got done in $20 was $350 from them. Also they said they will call me to fix the bathroom door lock which was not an emergency, it has been three months no call back to me. The person who picks phone when you call back said to call them back at 9 am or 5 pm when Mr Vern is there, why cannot he tell Mr Vern to call me back? Poor service and would not use again and would not recommend.

While the prices are a tad more expensive, I wanted to support a local spot and the quality is much better, since this is their specialty! Chatted with "Art" upon entry who gave us a brief history of the shop. They are family/woman owned and have been in business for decades! In addition to making copies of keys, they have an extensive collection of doorknobs, locks, doorbells and more! The key was made within minutes--I was able to pay cash, and it was $10 out the door. They are located right on El Camino, and have a dedicated parking area so you don't have to worry about parking on the main street, if you don't want to. I called on a Sunday to see if they were open. The guy on the phone said to come over. I went and…read morewaited a little for the store to open because the guy on the phone was not the same guy who opened the store. I found out later that there's two locations and the store owner was the one I spoke to on the phone and the guy who opened up the shop was an employee who lived just a few blocks away. Bryan, the employee, was blue-collar friendly and we chatted it up. I came in there to get a 2004 Honda CR-V key copy made. I didn't realize the key I had, had a chip in it and so the keys aren't cheap. It took some programming with my car and definitely needed a specialist to make the copy. Bryan knew his stuff. He even knew that the cable in my car that he needed to hook up the key-programming device to wasn't the right/original cable so he replaced my cable with one that would work with his device, at no charge. Although it took some time, because I had the wrong cable initially, Bryan was patient and diligent to get the work done. The key cost $80, but I know if I went to the dealer, it would cost at least $120, so I know I got a good deal. I looked around and saw something else I wanted. My dad who lives in Hawaii needed an extra garage door opener. I saw one in the store and Bryan was helpful in getting the exact same one. He told me to ask my dad for a picture of the garage door opener. In about 2 minutes of getting the picture, Bryan was able to find the exact same garage door opener and was knowledgeable on how to program it. That was $40, which is cheaper than at other places. This place has a bunch of knick-knacks and Bryan is friendly, knowledgeable, and freely offers up information/advice that may help you with what you need done. I'd definitely come back here again!
