I've been to all the best dining in Charleston and this was the best experience I've had. It's not just that the food was some of the most striking flavors. It's also the unusual service and the atmosphere. The waiter freely offers suggestions, but if you want something else, just say so. Go here if you want a relaxed, rare European-style experience - something that's hard to find in the USA. Take your time - the food and drinks are spaced. Enjoy the warm, home-like environment. The place is historic and has charm. Excellent music that's not too loud. Aesthetic lighting. No waiter constantly hinting that you need to leave or interrupting every 2 minutes to ask you if you need more things. We could've either ordered from the menu or he said he could pick our dishes for you which I think is a great option to try things you wouldn't normally! We got the Brushetta the pickeled onion was delicious and added good flavor. 10/10 and the Tuna tartare, was super good. I wish the chunks were smaller 8/10 as our starters which were both delicious! And for our entrees I got the special Seabass with potatoes, the serving size too me was smaller compared to was my hubs got 8/10 and the hubs got the Chef Steak which game with fries and green 9/10! Kept pushing to have him order our food for us and share as family style. This was not a good group to do this with as it was the first time we were out together. Food portions were small. My husband left hungry after having the eggplant. It was good but for the price he should not have been hungry. Never asked if we wanted another drink. Told them we had to be out by a specific time and they still took their time. My first time visiting this spot and I will say the food was outstanding! I highly recommend the sicilian meatballs as a starter. The gravy sauce was amazing with the French fries. The spinach ricotta gnocchi was so flavorful, an entree must try. The restaurant itself was very neat with the different themed/color rooms. This is a tough review to write... We were SO EXCITED to try this restaurant, and based on the reviews, expected an amazing experience. Our party of four ate upstairs, which was a super cute space, but very hot (heat was on because it was cold outside). They adjusted the temperature but it was pretty toasty for the entire meal in the busy space with the other full tables. Pros: - The bottle of wine we ordered was delicious, and we had two - Service was consistent and we were taken care of timely - The eggplant was delicious - definitely the best dish at the table - The beet salad and the tartare were solid - very glad we ordered these - Server & assistants were great, attentive, fun, nice Cons: - The pasta that I ordered was extremely bland, the chicken on top was torched and barely edible it was so dry - The ravioli were dry and there was about a tsp of pumpkin inside - The steaks my dad and husband ordered were very expensive, very fatty, and they could not eat the majority of the meat - The fries were very disappointing - like, bad McDonalds-esque - Cheesecake did not taste fresh and it was pretty gummy - This was an EXPENSIVE meal for what we had/enjoyed - We were seated next to two very large parties, and directly in front of the single bathroom stall - lots of traffic from folks using the restroom and lots of noise from the two huge parties I think I would be open to trying again, but we would be very cognizant of what we ordered and would probably stick to some apps and wine. read more

Cute restaurant. I made a mistake by making a reservation for Saturday instead of Friday. Luckily the bar was not busy so we had our dinner there. My husband had an espresso old fashioned and it was delicious. I had the Betty and it was so refreshing and yummy that I ended up with a second drink. We ordered a bunch of foods which were delicious. I couldn't remember much after the second Betty so I can't really tell you guys what I had but did remembered that they were delicious. My boyfriend and I came here for dinner on our trip to Charleston and we had the best meal of our life! First: this restaurant is located in an old home off a side street in Charleston. So cute! We had basically our own dining room due to it being an old home. Such a unique experience. We started off with drinks and fresh bread. We had a shrimp app which was refreshing. We had the salmon special and chicken two ways. Both delicious and filling. All the pricing was reasonable too. Then we finished off with the pomegranate dessert which we finished. What a special surprise having dinner here with a group of friends for her bachelorette. We had a reservation and were placed in a room with two huge tables (another party ended up using the other table towards the end, which made for a super loud room). You start off by meeting Donnie who asks for everyone's drink orders but not in the usual way. He gives you three liquor options, gathering what each person likes, to craft a tasty cocktail just for you! Donnie was super personable and made the entire experience for us! Next, they bring out a selection of appetizers for the table to share. Luckily there's something, even for the pickiest eaters like me! After that is the main entrees, which is a selection of all kinds of food for everyone to share. My personal favorites were the meat balls, pasta, fries, and the Brussel sprouts. We had dinner here Saturday night. Restaurant is inside an old house which is neat but also had the old musty house smell. As a tourist, I don't know if that's the normal Charleston smell or if it's only at some restaurants but seemed to be a common theme throughout the trip. We were seated up stairs in the back corner room near the fire place. We opted to split appetizers since we had been grazing all day. Meze platter, duck, meatballs and pickled shrimp. Everything had nice flavor. The pickled shrimp are chilled cocktail shrimp served with a green, pickled mango sauce... it was very different but in a good way. Still trying to figure out what was in dip. The duck was delicious but was very fatty. I know that typical when ordering duck but wanted to note in case you're not expecting it. Meatballs were our favorite. Dip the bread in the sauce! So good! Hummus and eggplant dip on the meze were also amazing. I'd venture to say they don't have a bad item on their menu. The Donnie Experience Please know this is written with the intention that it will encourage someone who needs help to get it. My party of 6 had a reservation at muse and were seated in the beautiful historic house immediately. (8pm) We were lead upstairs to a room with 3 tables, two of which were already seated. Quickly upon arrival Donnie the manager greeted us all and let us know we did not need any menus for the night as he would be curating a tasting experience for us (charming right?). We happily agreed to a round of cold and hot apps as well as entrees and selected a liquor for him to get a round of cocktail in for the table. What followed was a fever dream that we could not shake. In the first hour we were there (now 9pm) we received one round of cocktails and Donnie insisted multiple times he put in food for us only to come over to the table and admit he had not while boisterously plugging his upcoming comedy show. Between his impromptu set of zionistic and ableist jokes over a table void of food and dwindling drinks other patrons came over to wish our bride congratulations and insist we were in the best hands with Donnie (their tables mind you were full of food). Nervous young waiters and waitresses on multiple occasions brought food to our table only to ask who ordered what which was answered with a lowering enthusiasm of "we doing the Donnie experience he ordered for us!" only for them to promptly usher the food away. The local celebrity Donnie was busy taking selfies with tables and chatting on about his DUI and father's drinking problems. At 9:50 (the establishment closes at 10) when we had ordered our second round of cocktails 3(+) times and had 1 round of cold apps I worked up the courage to let Donnie know we had some other plans tonight and would be so appreciative if we could move things along. This was met with intense questioning about our plans when they were, how long we had been here, and ultimately nothing in the way of service. All the while the tables next to us were wined and dined leaving us with the sticking thought - did we do something wrong? Some time after 10 Donnie brought over about 4 glasses of red wine (we had ordered 1 and cocktails) I let him know we were happy to wrap up with the bill which was met with confusion and urgency that our food was actually coming out right now. Shortly after arrived two pastas, two Brussels, and asparagus because you know he wanted us to know he remembered we were vegetarian (1 member of our party is). The bill was egregiously wrong and he sheepishly but hastily fixed it. This is my complete review of the Donnie experience at Muse. If this were a review of Donnie himself I would have painted more vividly the rapidly declining cognitive functioning of an alcoholic during the time we were there from cool winks and thoughtful questions to mumbled speech, heavy shoulder pets and repeated anecdotes. Beth Anne, he did gush about your mentorship and positive impact in his life. To quote him, "I am a junk yard dog and Beth Anne is the one who yanks my chain". We went for dinner with some family ahead of a show at Music Hall. Easy parking (but expensive) at the George street lot or it's not a bad walk from the visitor center garage. Overall, the physical space feels run down but the table was well sized for our group of six. The service was good but not great, mostly seemed like a couple different wait staff were helping cover our table so slightly disjointed. The food was all just fine to good. We started with the daily bruschetta which was nicely prepared as was the calamari (and both were good portions). We enjoyed the Bibb salad as well but nothing mind blowing. It seemed as if all of our entrees just weren't seasoned properly. The chicken two ways had a nice sauce but a dry, unseasoned chicken breast on top that wasn't good (same chicken on top of the fettuccine). The eggplant parm was okay but the sauce was lack luster and for the price point to not get pasta or a bread with it was odd. Same for the fettuccine and the tagliatelle. On the whole, it wasn't a bad meal it just wasn't anything special relative to what's available elsewhere and for the price point. read more

Wow! This place came highly recommended by a friend whose family lives here and it did not disappoint. It's small and crowded but oh so cute. Love the Greek Muse theme and the decor, paint and art embraces this theme with each room painted and decorated like an old opera house. We were seated in a cute upstairs room and our server, Erin quickly grabbed us some fresh bread since we were starving. She was excellent. Took great care of us the entire night and was really stellar. We ordered the Mezze platter minus the Baba ghanoush which I don't like and subbed cucumber instead of pita. Hummus was delish and fresh as were the tomato and cucumber feta salad and the two fresh falafel bites. Sooo good and fresh! My husband ordered the fresh fish which was snapper perfectly cooked with asparagus. I had the halibut with lobster pea risotto and found it to be an excellent cut of fish, large and fresh and flaky, perfectly cooked. The risotto was yummy as well with a fair portion of lobster meat. We loved both dishes. For dessert - I went with their unique take on tiramisu which is a pomegranate and pistachio flavor and it was sooo good! Loved it. Noms. Coffee was also very good. We also got the bruschetta which was great - the special of the day was having filet on top - it was a nice addition but not needed. My fiancée got the braised short rib and said it was one of the best he's ever had - he rated it a 10/10 and he is fairly hard to get that high of a rating from. The bread that they gave us before the meal was a little undercooked though - which took away from the experience. The service was good but it did take us about 15 minutes to get our glasses of wine - which was surprising for a place that is also a wine bar. My parents and I had such a wonderful dinner and dining experience at The Muse. Both the outside and inside has a beautiful Greek vibe. There is an outside porch area that is dimly lit and the inside has nice decor and feels more intimate. It's small but a very cozy and elegant spot. Perfect ambiance for a nice dinner out. I've been to Muse now 5 times. I must say, it has NEVER disappointed. My husband and I spent our engagement dinner here, I had dinner here with my bridesmaids, and it's been a date night spot for us on numerous occasions. First off, service is unmatched. The waiters are all so friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Donnie, one of the managers, is not only amazing at helping to narrow down options on the menu but he will surprise you with top notch service. I will warn, if they have larger groups the bar will take time to get drinks from as it is smaller and more intimate. This has happened a couple times for us, but they are very apologetic if it takes a while and they are great about comping a drink if it was an egregious wait. The food is incredible, and we've tried multiple dishes from their different seasonal menus. Wow, Wow, & Wow!! I had done research as captain of a girls trip and I feel so lucky that MUSE was able to accommodate 10 LSU ladies!! We were served delicious custom made cocktails in the bar while our table was set. We were supposed to sit upstairs and could not and it took they almost thirty minutes to seat us at almost nine pm downstairs. A Perfect (Double Date) Evening at Muse Last night, my girlfriend and our friends embarked on a magical culinary journey at Muse, and although I selfishly want to keep this gem to myself, the wonderful people at Muse deserve recognition for their craft and their zeal for service. The soft lighting, tasteful decor, and soothing background music set the perfect mood for an unforgettable evening. Wine Selection: I mean, what else could you want? This place boasts an exquisite wine selection that caters to all palates. Our server Donnie (more to come on this guy) gave a short interview to the ladies on what they would like before offering an abbreviated selection based on what they were looking for. We started with a bottle of Pinot Noir. My buddy who tends to prefer cocktails asked Donnie to surprise him and got some twist on a manhattan. Culinary Delights: I will preface this to say that none of the people in our group were picky eaters. The menu featured a variety of delectable dishes. The attentiveness, friendly demeanor, and genuine passion for hospitality made us feel like valued guests throughout the evening. They were also accommodating to any special requests we had, ensuring we left with smiles on our faces. Dessert Heaven: Dessert lovers, rejoice! We definitely didn't have to do this... but we were celebrating some accomplishments... so we did. And we did it with the GF/V Ricotta Cheesecake (never too much ricotta). The sweet endings to our meal were nothing short of extraordinary. The dessert menu was a masterpiece in itself, offering a plethora of divine options that left us spoilt for choice. Bartender was none to happy we appeared as late as we did...but was personable enough. Other staff (waitresses) are catty and loud...eating and drinking at bar. Made us a couple decent Hendricks martinis...perfect. Calamari was flavorful. Sauces under the calamari were great, just needed more for the dish to be better. Arugula salad was flavorful, but included a glob of melted Parmesan cheese and canned mandarin oranges...glad pepper grinder was present on the bar. Eggplant lasagna is not up to par...looks and tastes frozen dinner style. Same sauce on bottom of plate as calamari. Don't order this. Asparagus & Mascarpone Ravioli was better than the lasagna, but should rename because was not reminiscent of asparagus:..had two tiny slices. In all fairness...the pasta was green in color...??? Needs more asparagus to be named as such. Decided to forego the dessert course...was obvious we were last table. Bartender was pouring shots for kitchen and waitstaff. Unfortunately this is the only genuinely not good review I have had for a Charleston restaurant in a long time. A few of us went here for a quick galentine's dinner, seeing as most places were booked in advance. I was already wary of the menu, as I couldn't really tell what cuisine they were going for and much of the menu didn't flow. Our reservation was at 8:15; we were seated pretty quickly and the building was dated but atmosphere felt like a typical vintage/southern space for Charleston. The first red flag was our "waiter" acknowledging us almost 25-30 minutes after being seated; he was dressed in regular clothes and while kind, very informal. We asked for a cocktail menu and he explained that "he was the cocktail menu". But he proceeded to say he could make like three or four basic cocktails. He then said "you'll have multiple servers" but not because it was fine dining, rather that he can't keep up with his tables. Our drinks took around half an hour to come out, which was alittle frustrating. The drinks were unfortunately pretty bad, so we just moved forward with food. I remember looking at the menu for almost an hour unsure of what to order because it just wasn't it. I went with a pasta dish and my group ordered similarly. It took until around 9:40 to receive our food, and as a non-picky person, it was really not worth the price. My pasta tasted not fresh and the chef/waiter's "creations" just weren't great. To make the experience worse, our "waiter" was up in our section the entire time we were eating telling very inappropriate jokes and even touching my friend while she ate to use as an example. He explained that he was a stand-up but I wouldn't pay 50 cents to go to one of his shows. It was super unprofessional and uncomfortable. Oh and we found out he owns the place so that's why he's still there. I honestly think this place has great potential, but the service and food kind of overshadows that, it could definitely use better ownership.
