The prominent sign worked. It finally got me to stop in, look around, and even come back.

I sort of stumbled onto this Franz Bakery Outlet Store ... not like a drunkard, but by driving by on Foster, where it becomes a wider and sparsely traveled thoroughfare, mostly defined by industrial parks, east of I-205. I wanted to see what they had that I couldn't get at the supermarket. As it turns out, stopping at the Franz Outlet made for a very good experience. Parking is ample, the store has a good feel to it, there is a vast selection of baked goods as well as stuff suited to impulse purchases, the employees are friendly, the prices are very reasonable, and making that left turn back out onto Foster to head west toward the freeway is easily done. Be sure to check the expiration date of whatever you buy. That responsibility falls on the consumer, as it would at the supermarket or any other store. This last time, the lady working there was very knowledgeable about the nutritional content of various items I was comparing. I don't buy much but, during this last visit, I bought some incredible sourdough bread. The Franz family appears to have started this local business over 100 years ago. So, I'm thinking we have this Germanic family with roots in either Germany, Austria, Switzerland, or Luxembourg to thank for getting on the boat, crossing the pond, making the train trip across the states, and ending up in our Bavarian looking area to bake things for us. And, for all we know, there could have been or is a Hans Franz in their family tree.

Spent just over ten bucks. Look at this haul!

If you want to save some $$ this is a good place to buy bread and other food . Small , but plenty of choices.

Crispy, airy, buttery and oh, so delicate, my raspberry cruffin was the dessert dreams are made of! If you've never had a cruffin... what are you waiting for?! It's croissant dough baked into a muffin shape. And the particular version I ordered today was filled with sweet and creamy vanilla custard and raspberry jelly. My mouth is watering describing this now, a true sign I'll be returning to experience this delicacy time and time again. There are three locations of Twisted Croissant in Portland, and this is the only one I've visited. The interior has a classic Parisian bakery vibe, clad in white subway tile from floor to ceiling. The bakery case in front of the store is beautifully stocked with fresh pastries, perfect for enjoying with a cup of coffee or tea. However, be advised, there are only two tables in the back of their public space, so it's not particularly inviting space to sit and enjoy your breakfast. Given the location, I assume there is outdoor seating in the summer months, but don't quote me on that. Regardless, run here if you haven't been. These baked goods are worth the visit!

Easiest 5 star review!…read more It's all about the goods, baked goods. Breads. Treats. Sammies. Coffee and all the drinks are fine but everything in display was made by hand with quality ingredients. People line up until it's gone. Some days we've waited thirty people deep but in this day it was about a dozen. Service is quick and although there is seating, it's often full. We always go with the intention of eating somewhere else. The jamon sandwich, French pastries and especially the perfectly crunchy carmelly palmier are my faves. The Annex next door has a paired down list of options that often keeps the line from getting too long at the main store. We love both. It's always part of our Portland itinerary and sometimes multiple mornings in a row.

The quiche was rich, flaky, and packed with flavor, while the chocolate croissant had beautifully laminated layers with just the right balance of buttery pastry and chocolate. The fresh bread was the highlight, beautifully crusty on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside, and everything you'd hope for from a true artisan bakery. You can taste the quality and craftsmanship in every bite. Service was swift and easy, making the experience seamless from start to finish. There was also a decent amount of seating available, making it a great spot whether you're grabbing something on the go or catching up with a friend over coffee and pastries. The atmosphere feels warm and inviting without being overly busy or rushed.

If you can't finish the croissants day of, make sure to retoast them in the toaster oven! It will still be buttery and flakey and delicious! I love getting their bon bons as gifts for others (too expensive to just get for myself ) and my favorite pastry is their snickers bar. Gosh, not much else to say because others have such a good job with their reviews. They're currently looking for a new location and I'm sad to see them leave their old spot on Williams.

It's clearly a popular spot, and from what I hear, getting there early is key if you want their famous croissants. Everything we ordered was amazing a rocky road cookie, a chocolate croissant, and the ham and cheese croissant. Even two days later, everything was still tasty. The flaky layers were especially impressive. I'm a big rocky road fan and had never tried it as a cookie before this one was a winner and tasted fresh, not processed at all. Definitely looking forward to visiting in person next time.

This is such a cute little shop to grab a pastry and enjoy some coffee…read more I'm a croissant fanatic and was looking for a good place to get a croissant. I'm so glad I found this place. They have a great selection of pastries. The croissants are so amazing. You can tell it's a good croissant from all the fluffy layers. It's got a good egg wash on top which makes it crispy on top and soft and buttery on the inside. I also had to get the tiramisu latte. It was made to perfection. I like my coffee sweet so this was right up my ally. I also got a cookie and brownie. When you heat up the cookie and brownie a bit, it's a little taste of heaven! It was light, airy, and the butter taste was not overpowering. It was fantastic!
