Great food at great prices. We had the Capellini Pescatore, Pollo Cacciatora and side salads. The pasta came out hot and portion sizes were impressive for the cost. Service was excellent. If I could suggest one thing, it would be for the restaurant to change out the two, wavy lights in the center of the dining room or dim them if possible. The quest for good Italian in NoVa continues. Had high hopes after reading all the great reviews of Fratelli, only to be let down by another run of the mill restaurant. The pros: service was friendly - you can tell this is a family owned establishment My wife's veal Ravioli in meat sauce was great - pasta was obviously house made and the filling was rich and flavorful My son's Chicken piccata was very good My veal was tender and flavorful The cons: The restaurant itself really needs a facelift - they only only opened in the '90s, but clearly took over an old '70s building and didn't do much to it (old, brown drop ceiling, dirty old floor tile, yellow paint on the walls, etc) They claim to be a northern Italian restaurant - but nothing on the menu suggests northern fare - perhaps vaguely "Venetian" but really it's just "pan-Italian" The prosciutto melone was terrible - the cantaloupe was hard and flavorless and the prosciutto was just a salty, gamey ham The salads were clearly not fresh - wilty lettuce, watery, ice cold tomato, etc The spaghetti was unfortunately not house made and was actually overcooked The red sauce was so far from authentic - you can really tell the place is run by a Central American family when you taste it... flavors more akin to a Latin pallete not an Italian The desserts were old and stale - probably sitting uncovered in a refrigerator for a couple days All in all, if you live next door and it's an easy spot for takeout, I guess Fratelli will do the trick. It's Valentine's night. Putting our young son to bed and preparing to have a nice romantic dinner in our own home since we can't go out. Fratelli listed themselves available on Uber Eats. I ordered around 12 PM to deliver from 7:30-8 and we didn't cook dinner, but the order got cancelled from the restaurant at 7 PM. You have got to be kidding me. Of all days, you chose to ruin our dinner on this one. So disappointing. If you aren't able to fulfill orders, don't list yourself as available to order. If you must cancel, don't do it during the same hour it is supposed to be delivered. Terrible. read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our first time dining at Fratelli! My husband and I came for dinner on a Friday around 6pm and were seated right away. We each had a cocktail and started with the calamari. It was delicious with just the right about of breading. We also each ordered pasta for our entree with the salad (highly recommend the house Italian dressing). My husband ordered the pasta with shrimp, sausage, and vegetables in a red sauce, and I ordered the one with shrimp, scallops, and vegetables in a cream sauce. Sometimes you're just in the mood for some old school, neighborhood Italian food. From a recommendation, I'm glad I found Fratelli nearby which will now become my new go-to to satisfy for those filling pasta urges. Wife and I came on a Thursday night and easily got a table at 7:30pm. The restaurant itself is pretty generic decor wise and somewhat spartan. But who cares? The service we had was very friendly and gladly moved our table when I requested since the one they first put us down at was next to the kitchen and somewhat noisy. For starters, my wife went with the Shrimp Cocktail and I a small bowl of the Italian Wedding Soup. The soup was fantastic obviously homemade. Nice solid pieces of veggies, tasty broth and great meatballs. The shrimp cocktail was also excellent; pretty large shrimp. We also got a nice warm bread basket served with butter, Parmesean and olive oil on the table. You also get a garden salad; get the homemade Italian dressing with chunks of garlic. For dinner my wife got the Agnolotti Alla Panna; nice large stuffed pasta with a decadent cream sauce. They were quite large and the one bite I was able to grab was great, nice texture and bite. Keeping with my old school vibe I happily ordered Linguine Alla Vongole, with white sauce. Very large portion with perfectly cooked pasta, tender clams and each bite tasted of clams, garlic, and seawater. The broth was fantastic and the pasta soaks up a lot. Definitely a great bowl to polish off and be satisfied. No room for dessert. But in a world with a lot of mediocre and overpriced Italian spots, I am glad to have found a solid, honest one in Alexandria. read more

On Monday-Wednesday they have a special including salad, bread, any two entrees, two desserts, coffee, and a bottle of wine for $65. The food and service here is always amazing. I've lived in NOVA for almost 10 years and this is the first time at Fratelli's. I am surprised I have not come here sooner. This is a local small family restaurant that serves good quality Italian food. I came here for my cousin's birthday and it was a wonderful experience. We ordered a few apps like the clam casino, crab stuffed mushrooms and calamari. The clam casino was amazing, the bacon added a nice touch to it. The crab stuff mushrooms were really good, it had good crab lumps and wasn't skimpy on the portion. For my entree, I ordered the fettuccini frutta d'mare and it was really good. The pasta is homemade, and had a good al dente texture. The seafood was fresh and paired well with the red sauce. One downside was that the sauce was on the watery end, I guess from the fresh pasta, so the sauce didn't stick well to the pasta. Someone in my group ordered pasta with the cream sauce, and that was delicious. I do plan on getting something with a cream base next time as well as try brunch option that they have on the weekend. read more

What a fantastic local business. The service is stellar and the food is simply delicious. The ambiance is warm and welcoming. Our waiter was extremely professional and personable. In fact, all the staff truly seemed happy to be there. Something as simple as a smile and graciousness just went a long way with us. Even with a rambunctious toddler who got restless, they seemed to enjoy the presence of a little one moving around the restaurant. Our mozzarella fritta was divine. Hot and crisp on the outside and just delicious with the accompanying garlic lemon sauce. Our calamari was also delightfully crisp. We all enjoyed our pasta dishes, too. What makes them beyond excellent in my opinion, posting for my parents: My parents were eating at the restaurant, socially distancing in the dead of summer 2020. My dad had a medical emergency and fainted. It ended up being nothing serious, but was scary and EMTs came. The restaurant would not take a penny of my parents' money for the meal, and were more concerned about the general well-being (physical and emotional) of my parents. The chicken parm was a massive chicken breast that will definitely fill you up. My only issue was that the breading for the chicken was soggy because there was so much sauce. The shrimp and chicken with pasta was delicious. It it a generous portion that is served and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. The sauce was delicious! Lastly, the cannoli was delicious as well! Unfortunately, we didn't get to try the bread and butter because they didn't bring us any to our table. Also, the salad they served us kinda just seemed like some lettuce was cut up and thrown on a plate with one slice of cucumber and one slice of a tomato. Overall, it was a good experience. Main entrees were decent don't take me wrong but our waitress was in hurry. I asked for specials or couple questions about wine, she had no recommendations, she was just eager for us to order. Salad was soggy and cold right out of the fridge, all dripping in water. Once they took our order it took long time to get food like 30+ min. Then towards the end we asked them to box our broccoli and they forgot to box it for us. I think this is typical example of small cuts in service to save money by management. I did my research before coming here since I was with my 7 year old nephew. I made sure this place was good for kids and headed out. I should have known things were off when I stood at the entrance waiting to be acknowledged. Employees would enter and exit the kitchen, make eye contact, and keep going. Eventually we were seated. The first thing I was told (not even greeted) was "we don't have a kid's menu". Great. My nephew is a bit picky but I knew what he would eat so I figured I'd try a steak and he would have the spaghetti with meatballs. Someone brought bread and then we waited. And we continued waiting. I considered leaving but didn't want to have to explain it to my nephew. Eventually the table next to us had a server and after seeing my expression she eventually came over....to ask if we had been helped by anyone. I explained that we had not been helped so she took our order. So we waited. And we continued waiting. When we finally received our food I asked (begged) if they could refill my water. I only saw the server again when she came to bring the check. I asked for a second glass of wine and the check. I still tipped 20% but I won't ever return to this place. The steak cost too much to be full of fat and gristle and overcooked. The pasta was good, not great and the meatballs were gross and with a strange, mushy texture. The service and attention was atrocious. The only good thing was the wine. That was delicious but hardly worth putting myself through the suffering of coming here.
