I am appalled at the meal I took home after ordering it to go from the bar, at 4:30 p.m. on Monday evening, 10/21. A dozen garlic parmesian chicken wings and a meatball appetizer. Where do I begin? The sauce the meatballs were in had a strong burnt taste to it. The meatballs themselves were so salty, I could not eat them. As if an accident of spilled salt into the meat had occurred and was ignored. I'm also wondering if the obvious imbalance of ingredients created by the excessive salt is what caused the meatballs to completely disintegrate when trying to use utensils to eat them. The chicken wings were black, not because they were blackened, but because the fryer oil was burnt and probably rancid. The oil that naturally runs off the in the styrofoam container was also black. The garlic parmesian sauce was of course, excessive salt and parmesian. $28 dinner for one went straight into the trash. I didn't want to fight Monday dinner time traffic to take it back. That's on me. I'm guessing Monday kitchen staff isn't very highly trained, but if that's true there should be a manager putting eyes on every dish going out. This was absolutely terrible. read more

I love lasagna. I make it very well, but too often I don't have the time, or the energy, to make it myself. The other day, I ordered some via delivery from Fratello's. I also ordered a small antipasto salad; I ordered, and paid, for an extra dressing that I didn't receive. It wasn't a huge charge, but I did pay for it. It was extremely sloppy, or lazy, to fail to send it. The salad was average. I didn't love it, and I didn't hate it. If I had one main criticism, it would be less pepperoni and more salami. And then I got to the lasagna. You know, there is a running theme in my reviews, and that theme is about too much salt being used. The lasagna had entirely too much salt in it. It was drowning in sauce in the container; I didn't order lasagna soup. I prefer my lasagna a little drier. I might not have commented on this if the sauce had tasted better. In addition to being salted to death, it was also too acidic. There was nothing in it to counter that acid, which made it unpleasant to eat. After I'd managed to scrape off most of the sauce, and get to the lasagna itself, it was okay (as in not exciting). There was very little ricotta in it which, if there had been a decent amount, might have gone far in balancing the extreme acid in the over-abundant sauce. The portion is good, but the problem is that I don't want to eat it all because of the salt and the acid. Not everyone likes heavily salted food; I am one of those people. And while millions out there think that salt is a great "seasoning," I strongly disagree. It doesn't enhance the natural flavors of food. It covers them with salt. I'm finding that most restaurants in Spartanburg seem to be run/manned by people who are way too addicted to the salt shaker, and are ruining what could be delicious food. Where salt is concerned, less is more. If you're using so much that that's the main flavor for the consumer, then you don't know how to cook. It's that simple. Will I order from this place again? I ordered DoorDash from Fratello's and it was not only great food but when it got here it was still extremely hot, which never happens with delivery! I ordered the baked ziti with an extra meatball and my husband ordered the lasagna. The ziti was awesome and my husband devoured his lasagna. I would definitely eat here again read more

Food is fantastic. But a reservation here means something else entirely. You won't be seated when you walk in, instead you'll be out at the top of the waiting list. Not exactly ideal. Decent vibe to the place, a little pricey, but it's worth restating, fantastic food. read more

The pictures on IG must be from Greenville. Came in to the spartanburg location. Place is a dive (I'm sorry, but it is). Ordered the garlic knots. They were ok but marinara was tasteless. Ordered the chicken Marsala will side of ceasar and my partner ordered the Alfredo with shrimp. Ceasar came out before everything, and was jar dressing and just too much for the romaine. Chicken Marsala was inedible; chicken cooked well but the sauce was just...wrong. My partner didn't like her Alfredo and it certainly wasn't worth the $19 for her plate. I'm overall confused by the place, which looks like a diner but is trying for higher end pricing...anyway, server was very nice but forgot about us so water was empty for a while before I could flag her down. read more

I'm not sure what all of the mixed reviews are about. I knew when I arrived and the restaurant was packed with locals on a Thursday night I was in for a treat! This place did not disappoint. The service was on point and very friendly. The no frill decor was overshadowed by the great food. I've eaten Italian food at many restaurants all over the country, and this was one of the best Veal dishes I've had in a long time. Can't wait until I'm back in town to go back! read more

Great the first couple times we went. Went last time on a slow night and service was horrible. Didn't know who our server was as we asked different people for drinks, someone else took our order, someone else brought food. Not one asked how our food was or refilled our drinks and then we asked for Togo drinks and a dessert to go and got the drinks and never received dessert. A very pleasant upscale atmosphere for an Italian restaurant. Our server was efficient and pleasant. Sophia and I both had the large house salad with added shrimp (for less than $10 each). The salad came with 5 good-sized shrimp that were well-seasoned. The iced tea was excellent and served in a real glass, not plastic. Our salads came with 4 delicious bread sticks. The best Italian food in the area - hands down. I just moved here and this has been my go-to for date night or just ordering a pizza. I love their bolognese but I get fettuccine noodles because they are my favorite. Also, loved the Reisling wine and garlic knots are WORTH THE WAIT!!! Will be back ASAP. read more

She re ordered the white pizza and it came badly burned on the top and charred underneath they took the pizza off the bill. Glad I checked it before we left . Had lasagna and it was very average. My husband liked his and he doesn't normally like pizza. Chicken parm was a little sweet, but fine. The best part: the bread basket. That bread is heavenly. I'd come back just for the bread. Our go to place at home here in Spartanburg. Love the lasagna and Chicken Francaise or Piccata Even the ziti is awesome, topped with all that delicious cheese. Makes your mouth water. Awesome pizzas too. All in all it's a great family Italian restaurant, just the way they should be. The spinach and salads are good too. Prices are average to slightly more than some informal Italian restaurants but very generous portions and superb flavors compensate. Don't forget the desserts if you still have room. read more

We picked up pizza to-go for the first time and we were highly impressed! It has been difficult finding good pizza in the area but this definitely won us over. The crust was delicious, it tasted fresh. It wasn't thick + doughy but it also wasn't super thin. It was done well, not undercooked (and again, doughy - which is a frequent mistake many restaurants make). Their sauce is delicious with a lot of flavor. They also added just the right amount of cheese, without overdoing it (again, another mistake a lot of restaurants make). Can't speak to their other dishes, but highly recommend the pizza. read more

This quaint town restaurant brought my friend and I visceral nostalgia--it was if we were transported to a film adaption of 'Candy Land', but modernized and tidied up to the family standard of Mrs. Claus. Illuminated glass bottles filled the room like Christmas. The garlic nots redolent of holiday pastry treats. The setting embodied a full rendition of an off season Grinch tale and I can say with an air of confidence that I have never in my years of dining, once progressing through the dark age of culinary reformation, felt a more novel transition that quite literally redefined an age. Great neighborhood Italian food. I am in love! This was my second visit to Fratello's and I love it! Even my husband loved the clam linguini that was far more than he could eat! I love The marinara is fresh, the taste of tomato burst in your mouth I wish it was served with fresh Parmesan They serve a toasted bread but it's plain and would be better with garlic and Parmesan. People were coming in and just standing there because nobody was there to seat them.
