The customer messaged me at 12:53 PM and said to call when I was at the gate so that I could drive in and deliver the groceries to the door. I arrived and it went straight to voicemail. I then to let them know that I was there and waited in the car for a while with the groceries and didn't get a response. (Please note that their delivery instructions say if not home leave at gate.) I put the groceries in the shade to the side under their house number which was clear on the photo. Twelve minutes later I get a message from them saying, "You left groceries outside an open gate in hot sun dumbest thing I've ever seen". Contacted support and blocked them. Rude!!

We met Mike & Roberta (owners/winemakers) at last summer's "Garagiste Wine Festival" in Glendale, CA, and thought that their 2016 Merlot was the star of the day. We're quite familiar with the wineries in north San Diego County, but we hadn't heard of Effenberger Vineyards, so we made it a goal to visit them for a private sit-down tasting experience, and to check out their property. They hold tastings downstairs in their home, which doubles as a cozy tasting area and production area. Making reservations via their website was easy and follow up communication was excellent. WINES: This boutique winery produces about 120 cases a year which is considered small. Several varietals are grown onsite, and other fruit is purchased from local growers. Mike poured the '23 Estate Bourdeau blend, '23 Cab. Franc, '23 Estate Cab. Sauvignon, '22 Montepulciano, and '21 Syrah. We had a wonderful discussion with them about their history, their wines, our wine interests, etc. After getting to know our likes/dislikes, Mike generously gave us a little extra taste of his Sagrantino (unfortunately, I forgot the vintage). We thought that everything we tasted was well made, and we purchased a couple bottles of the Cab. Franc and Montepulciano to take home with us. There's a small, but comfortable area inside by a stone fireplace, as well as a nice deck in front offering the wonderful views of the vineyards and surrounding hills. They even have a cave, however it's not open to the public (at least as of our last visit). WINES: Andy (owner/winemaker) poured for us and provides good service and nice insight on his wines and vineyard. One tasting fee is waived with one bottle purchase, as Andy's motto is "We want to sell wines, not tastings". Chuparosa offers mostly Italian, French, and some Spanish varietals (Albariño, Grenache Gris, Mourvèdre/Grenache Rosè, Sangiovese, Cab Franc, and Zinfandel) and in my opinion they're all well-made, elegant wines, some of the best in the region. Chuparosa is a "must visit" winery when in the Ramona wine country.

It's a very laidback, super relaxing winery that is in definite contrast to a few of the bigger more boisterous places in the area. Ron and Kelly are warm and welcoming, and very knowledgeable about wine. Their property has lots of tables and chairs outside with a decent amount of shade, which for me is a must, because my Irish skin cannot tolerate the San Diego sun. They are also very dog friendly, and usually have their own dog, Jade, acting a "greeter" when you arrive. How is the wine? Very well-thought out. I've never had less than an excellent glass of their wine every time we visit. My husband and I never leave without at least one bottle every time we visit. They are definitely worth the long and windy drive to find them.

She stated she doesn't understand why "sunset is advertised online" when they are closed during summer sunset time. She seemed a bit annoyed at us, which I understood as closing time was happening soon. We left before other patrons did, prior to 8:30pm. I had no issue with that, my issue was with the way she spoke to my partner. As we were closing out she said we could not get a new glass, but could get topped off. My boyfriend asked if she could top off his glass, and she said something along the lines of "look at you using a new vocab word, you were paying attention to what I said". I'm not one who gets offended easily, but that comment came across as patronizing to me. Perhaps that wasn't her intention, but it was how it was perceived. Such a shame. I'd love to continue coming back, I just hope future interactions are more welcoming.
