I have nothing but great things to say about the folks at Fred Slater. Dr. Chi made me and my wife feel super comfy. It was probably the easiest and most painless eye exam I've ever had. Most places try to up sell you on services that they can charge you for. I didn't feel that way here at all. The ladies at the front desk are super helpful as well. I was looking for a specific look and feel for my sunglasses and they spent about 30 minutes helping me find the right frames for me. At the end of the day, I found some fantastic D&G frames that my insurance pretty much covered, All in all a great visit! I know I have found my eye doctor for life. read more

Pruneyard location: Absolutely fantastic service! Staff is so friendly and helpful. I can not say enough about Dr. Chi-Fernandez! I took my three children to see her for an eye exam, she was so great with them! And she took the time to explain to me everything along the way. Ordering the glasses was simple with the very friendly staff who made sure we took full advantage of our insurance coverage and that we understood our options. The worst optical doctors out there. They just do not know how to refract right at all. I suffered with them for 3 months endlessly to get a correct refraction but they just could not get it right. They sent me to various eye center for diagnostics. Still no results were found. Never go to this place rather choose a place that gives results. Very frustrated. read more

I was attended by Dr. Mac. He is friendly, proffesional, and patient. The support staff is nice I had to return several times, expected, because of contact fitting for farsightedness. Dr. Slater and his team are amazing at what they do! I have had dry eye/allergy issues for years and they always manage to give me something to control symptoms. They also have great flexible hours so it's easy to get an appointment, and they are open late which made it easy to pick up my new glasses when the lenses were ready! read more

I'd gotten my prescription checked at a mall-based chain elsewhere, and had tried ordering glasses online to save money (because in-store mark-up is frequently ridiculous), but upon delivery something was DEFINITELY not right with the frames, so I went to this location to get them checked. The woman who helped me (April) was very nice, measuring my pupillary distance and examining my defective lenses for free (turns out the axis was totally off, so I am totally demanding a refund from the site responsible). I didn't buy a new pair there that day--the prices there were still pretty high for my tastes--but if I land another lemon in my online bargain-hunting I suppose it's the best deal I'll find in town! read more

I called the office because of sudden, unexplained pain in one eye. Within 90 minutes, I received a thorough examination by Dr. Chun. She patiently listened and explained what she was doing. She complemented her oral instructions with an easy-to-follow printout. The office staff was equally professional, billing my insurance company directly and getting back to me with information about my patient responsibility within the day. My two previous appointments here were equally satisfying. A top-notch operation. read more

I have been patronizing this business for the last seven years. Unfortunately, I have had three very negative experiences. The first occurred when I sent my children in to have an optometry appointment with Dr. Slater. He made a number of racially charged comments that made my children feel very uncomfortable . The next occurrence was when I was going to get new glasses. One of the staffers named Mark, was incredibly rude for no reason. After I sat down for an eyeglass fitting he asked me to then again to change seats because he was unwilling to slide his chair on his side of the desk ( btw this was maybe a 6in adjustment to his left). Then he responded to my questions quite condescendingly and failed to recognize that I was trying to make an informed purchase. In addition to this Mark kept trying to force added services on to my order and proceed to argue with me when I told him I was not interested. On my next visit an older blonde/grey woman again was quite rude. Throughout the setting she made constant negative snarky comments about name and other aspects of my personal information, was visibly disgusted that I chose to stand in the large mirror rather than sit to view the new frames and finally because I asked her to re-write a prescription where she used I'll formed lettering on the prescription. Finally after she rewrote the prescription she proceeded to tell me the correction was for my benefit only because in the industry they knew how to decipher the typo. I reminded her that I was the paying customer and taking the prescription outside of this office would cause confusion for other retailers. These experiences were quite disappointing because it was clear to me that after all these years they really didn't care to service me equally to other customers that I've seen in their place of business. I won't be making this 30 mile drive any longer. read more

Is there a rating below one star? I have been wearing glasses for over 30 years and this is the absolute worst eye experience of my life. The optometrist was nice, but I had to come back for a re-examine. Then had to come back several times to have my ~$1000 glasses adjusted. Finally got them right . When it was time for me to get sunglasses I decided not to pay 3X or whatever mark up and asked for a copy of my prescription. They don't fax or email so you have to pick them up. ok So I get to the optical place and find out the prescription is missing my progressive portion of the RX.. By the way, this is in pruneyard which can be a nightmare to park every time you have to there. Obviously I am done there. Fortunately there is a lot of competition to choose from. My son was away at college and called last minute to say he was out of contacts. I called to ask about new contacts, but they refused to help unless my son visited their office. It had been one year and 2 weeks since his last appointment. I was told he would have to fly in from Oregon to get new contacts through their offices. We will not be returning to these office again and their staff could care less. read more

I went to Dr Fred Slater Optometry to get a pair glasses and my eye exam. I was seen by Dr. Amy Chi who was super nice and very knowledgeable. When I told her about my frequent eye irritation caused by my allergies, she took the time to explain how to treat and also how to avoid in the future. She also took the time to explain the different types of contact lenses that are out in the market. She recommended a better quality contact lenses then the one i'm using now which can help with my stigmatism. Her office staff was also super helpful. I had no idea what type of frames I wanted but Mark gave awesome recommendations on what type of frames looked best on me. I highly recommended Dr Chi and her staff. read more

I have been a patient of this practice for close to 10 years. Recently I had an exam and ordered new glasses. They don't seem to be as clear as my old glasses. I contacted them and Dr. Dally called me back. His attitude was horrible. He kept telling me I would soon need reading glasses. I asked him to focus on the now not the later and why might I be having a problem with the new glasses and not the old. He would not even suggest that maybe the glasses are just wrong. He never suggested I come in and we take a look at the current glasses. In his opinion, I was just wrong and need to live with what I have. I have never had anyone in this office speak to me in this manner. I will no longer be a patient and can no longer recommend this Dr. or office. read more

I purchased my prescription glasses at this office about a year ago because my optometrist doesn't sell glasses. They were super nice, professional, and have a great variety of glasses to choose from. But wait... It gets better. The other day while cleaning, my mom stepped my my glasses and broke them. So went went over there and within 20 minutes I had a new pair. Since the glasses were still under warranty I was able to get the same frame for free!! Fabulous!!! I will be back! read more

I wanted to find an eyeglass store near my home, that carried good looking frames, and accepted my insurance plan, and I sure did. I went to Dr. Slater's, and met April Collier, who was friendly, knowledgeable, competent, and not pushy or on an ego trip. It took some time to find the right frames for my face, however, with April's expertise, patience, and perseverance, we did it. I was going from single vision to progressives, and I was very apprehensive. April assured me that she would make the glasses work and she did. My glasses arrived quickly, within a week. I put them on, expecting problems, but there weren't any. After a week, April even called me to see if I was satisfied. This is my new place now to buy glasses. read more

The staff has always provided great service from exams to helping choose frames and ordering contacts. This past weekend I went in just before closing with the hope they might be able to fix a problem with my frames. I wasn't expecting to bring the frames home. I love Dr. Dally. He is super funny and most importantly, he is a great doctor. Dr. Dally came recommended from two co-workers who are his patients. I used to wear glasses but wanted to get lasic surgery. One of my co-worker had a lasic done in a clinic that comes recommended from this office, so I gave it a try. I had the lasic 3 years ago, so now I come here only for my annual exam. At the time I was getting lasic, I was diagnosed with dry eye and Dr. Dally did a great job treating it before the surgery. I was really happy with the pre and post surgery care. I just went there for my annual yesterday. Craig Dally was great as always. I had bunch of questions and concerns about some bumps I have on my eyelids and my night vision and he took his time to go over everythings. No rush to get me out of the office. read more

I've been coming to this office for my glasses needs for well over a decade, and have referred multiple people here as well. The optometrists have come and gone, apart from Dr. Slater, but I continue to come here for the helpful staff, especially April. I don't know what I'd do if she ever left!! She has helped me choose all my glasses and sunglasses forever it seems, and she never steers me wrong. I get so many compliments on my frames, because she takes the time to help me find frames that fit my face, personality, tastes, etc. The entire staff are kind and friendly, and they take the time to listen. I had been with my previous eye Doctor for over 15 years. I have been looking for an Optometrist closer to my house for years. I was recommended by a close friend to go see Dr. Chi at Fred Slater & associates. I was very pleased at how easy it was to make an appointment and how friendly the Receptionist was. My appt. was just for a routine exam and contacts. I walk in to the office for my appt. and was greeted with a friendly smile and hello. First impression was It was a clean and nice office. Very warm and welcoming environment. Dr. Chi examined my eyes with the routine eye tests. Dr. Chi explained everything she was doing and she was very personable. My main concern was that I wanted to change my contact brand b/c I had been wearing the same brand for many many years and couldn't find another newer brand which fit my eyes properly. My previous Doctor tried once and it didn't work. I told this to Dr. Chi and she was like we will find one that will fit. Dr.Chi said I will be right back and a couple minutes later she walks in with 6 to 7 different types of contacts to try and see if they fit. Dr. Chi sat there and we went through a couple of different contacts until I found one that was perfect. Dr. Chi impressed me with her knowledge of all the different eye wear brands. Some eye doctors only know about the eye and its different ailments but Dr. Chi has extensive knowledge on both. I have been recommending Dr. Chi to all my friends.
