This is one of my favorite places on the planet! I stop by regularly to feel like a kid again. They have a wonderful collection of games, good food and cold beer. I thought it might be difficult to play some of the more popular games, but I haven't had an issue with someone monopolizing a game yet. They also seem to rotate the games fairly frequently. I have been able to play some of the classics again: Gauntlet, Off Road, Tetris, Tron, Smash TV, Beer Tapper, and the original Star Wars arcade. I keep hoping they will get a Tournament Cyberball 2072 machine. read more

I'd heard about this place from co-workers and students. They all recommended it but it took my husband's birthday to finally bring us here. It's a blast from the past! All sorts of fun arcade games including tabletop games and pinball! I got to practice my skills on some old favorites, try my hand at a couple of games I'd always been shut out of, and even learned a couple of new games. For $10 per person, it's all the gaming you want. All the games are set to free play. In the old days, I'd have spent a heap of quarter to learn how to tube down the rivers. We arrived at 4PM and left after a couple of hours. It was getting crowded and the lines were getting long for some of the games. Several families were hosting birthday parties. Kids were having fun although I would imagine that they disappear later at night (the place is open until 2AM on weekend nights). Management lets you bring your own cake to celebrate. There's good food here, too. I had the Cuban sandwich and my husband had the turkey with brie. No choice of chips but the Dr. Pepper is pure sugar cane, another blast from the past. The best arcade in the DFW metroplex. A huge selection of drinks (both alcoholic and non), a tasty food menu, and more cabinets than you can shake a stick at. Besides that, they do special events ALL THE TIME. Tuesday Night Fights on a selection of the fighting games, Ladies' Night on the last Thursday of every month, they're doing special brewery nights this summer, and I'm probably forgetting a bunch more. What a trip down memory lane this place is, they have a ton of games from the 80s and 90's. They also have beer, and a small selection of food. Thumbs up for playing not one, but two Bauhaus songs. It's a good way to kill some time, and have fun without breaking the bank. I went on a rainy Sunday night, and it was busy, but not packed. There are a couple of really old cabinets from the late 70's, majority of the games are from the 80's, and a few 90's era games. They have Mario Brothers which I had never actually seen. There's Donkey Kong, Galaga, Q-Bert, Mortal Kombat 2, Dr. Mario, etc. Entry fee is $10, which is pretty reasonable because you can play as much as you want. read more

Came here with some friends on a Friday night and this place was busy! Decent beer selection and plenty of games, even if you had to squeeze around everyone to get to them. Bathrooms were clean and well maintained. The high price of the cover was shocking at first, but I'm sure maintenance on the games isn't cheap. They had some classics and some that I hadn't heard of! Guys behind the bar are friendly and know their regulars. If you're a craft beer drinker, you will be in hog heaven with the 50+ beer selections to choose from. This place is awesome. Friendly staff, a very large selection of classic arcade games, and a good selection of beer. The upkeep on the machines is a breath of fresh air as well. All light gun games are calibrated, and every game I played had all buttons working. It's also very clean. Highly recommend for kids and adults. read more

Maybe I am getting old, but I can't hear the games in this arcade. The volume seems to be set on low or mute for most of the arcade games. I could hear the SSF2 Turbo machines just fine, but due to a lack of etiquette among some of the players it can sometimes be difficult to get on those Street Fighter machines. read more

I always read good reviews praising this place but I wouldn't go in with high hopes. I feel underwhelmed I went here and it was over priced. The food was greasy and sub par and it hurt my stomach the next day. On a cloudy Friday night it was very busy/crowded and was not enjoyable. There is some fun to be had with the pinball machines if you can ever get a chance to play one. I actually enjoyed the pinball at cidercade better. I don't really understand the hype of playing outdated arcade games. They were poorly designed to begin with and many of the originals from my childhood were missing. There was absolutely nothing up to date to play. Not to mention the overweight bartender with hand tattoos being rude because I didn't know my the craft beers off the top my head. I drove from south fort worth to This place and it was not worth it. here is a list of things i found: 1- Mortal kombat 2's right hand side joystick is faulty. player 2 can't jump forward 2- On The Simpsons arcade you can't press start on players 2 and 3. It being a 4 player arcade is what makes it fun/great but whats the use if the start buttons don't work. 3- The sound is really low an most of the arcades! Seriously, who likes playing in silence!? Seriously the sound is way way too low. 4- The main reason i went out to check this place out was for street fighter 2 but when i get there it has a sign that it's not operational. IS it too much trouble to update your website with the games that are down!? is it!? 5- The guns on the gun games. specially carnevil are out of whack. calibrate those puppies! 6- The bar has only 1 person attending it. I had to wait 20 min to get a drink! 7- One of the games was asking for coins! i though it was all on freeplay!? It really seems like the owners just thought they would buy a bunch of run down, shitty arcades, stick them in a place and make money. What a great little gem hidden off in a strip mall in Richardson!!! Come come come!!! It's really amazing and so reasonably priced!! For just under $11 you can play your heart out on a nice variety of retro arcade games...think old school Super Mario, PacMan, Pinball Machines, Simpsons, Area 51, and drumroll....VIPER!!! OMG!! I was such a happy camper when I got on this game...it took me waaaay down memory lane from my early pre-teen/teen years. I loved that game as a child and loved it just as much now as an adult!! We came during the week a few hours before closing, so we were able to play as much or as little on anything we wanted..no wait!! That was awesome!! I believe if you come during the peak hours there's a limit of 2 games per machine that's requested of any patrons to be considerate of everyone wanting to play. The bathrooms were clean and the place offers a very nice variety of beers and soda. They also offer fan merchandise, such as t-shirts and cups for sell displaying their logo or something else befitting of this super cute place!! If you're looking for something different and fun to do one any day of the week, check this place out...their hours are good too...open 7 days a week until 11 pm or midnight depending on which day you visit!! Tons of arcade games and $10 gets you all you can play. No more dying after 30 seconds and putting in more coins. I'm not a huge arcade connoisseur and still enjoyed this. A wonderful concept, well executed by passionate workers I've been to Free Play Arcade around 6 times now and I can wholeheartedly recommend it for many reasons. As a stand alone arcade, it's amazing, with 60+ classic games all in their original forms. $10 cover and every game is free inside. They have every machine you feel like you must have (Ms. Pac-Man, Joust, Robotron) and plenty of games you've forgotten (Ghosts 'n Goblins, Revolution X - i.e. that weird Aerosmith game) or possibly never heard of (Mike Tyson's Punch Out... Arcade Version?!?!). They have a good selection of craft beers and real sugar sodas with the retro glass bottles and some sandwiches/paninis made in the kitchen so I don't collapse on my 10 hour gaming binge. It's also the rare arcade that actually has fighting games and isn't going to beat you down with glorified slot machines dispensing tickets. And of course this time machine wouldn't be complete without the 80's music rickrolling all. It's a good place to relive your arcade memories and have some casual showdowns for high scores. It's a good place to take a date and have a drink while sitting down to some Ms. Pac-man. It's a good place to bring your son or daughter because you just showed them Wargames or Tron or YOUR Karate Kid and you want to share with them those bustling arcade sequences ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Byn5PIZ0q4Q ), not just by downloading a version of the game, but by seeing a real living breathing arcade with all those sights and sounds. Heck, if you are such a high roller that you wanna buy the machine outright (which I'm not) you can do that discreetly too. It's not a big deal for them as they are constantly moving in new classic games, not an ever expanding selection, but a flowing one that insures that if you are going to drop by once a month, you can have a fun new experience again and again. So that's the concept and I'm in love with it. . .but that's not all that should be mentioned because this is so much better than a novel idea sitting in a room somewhere. The owners and workers of Free Play Arcade show a clear passion for the entire process. It's a constantly cleaned, maintained and friendly environment. I showed up for a preopening event, and frankly some of the games needed work (as they were just obtained). Then I showed up days later and the games had gotten that work, as they do every single day before the arcade opens. Then I nitpicked them a little about the joystick here or the button there, after all who wants to play Mortal Kombat if you can't reliably jump over your opponent and and knock them down with a flying kick, only to forget the fatality move. ;) Well those issues all were addressed as well, with new joysticks ordered and the onsite technicians. What I am telling you is that, as a knowledgeable, discerning gamer from as far back as I can remember, Free Play Arcade is a better experience each time I go back in all the ways I could dream up. Great selection of games. Good value with a single cover ($10) for unlimited play. Not overly crowded so there was almost never a wait for a cabinet and I was able to play everything I wanted to by the end of the evening (Wednesday after 8pm). Drink prices were fine, they had a tap takeover from a local brewery and offered free samples to try before buying a full glass. I didn't try the food. read more

This place was so much fun until 11 pm on a Saturday night he bartender came over to me and told us to be quiet because four of us playing a game against each other were getting super excited and into it. This is a bar. You serve alcohol to adults who are playing nostalgic video games against each other and expect them to not yell at all?! That's ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, I was having a blast until this happened; so if you are a quiet opponent then this is the place for you. If you get excited playing games while drinking, this is definitely not your place because apparently that is frowned upon here. Pretty lame. read more

We drove 45 min to celebrate my brothers 21st birthday heard good things BUT when we arrived they would not allow him to enter with his temporary ID as his under 21 license expired. Had my birthday here, it was awesome! Great food, service, and games. Lots of fun with old games well kept and clean location. Had a wide range of games from pinball to multi-player, to driving, to the classics all incredible. And most games set up for free play for a low cost entry fee and the ones that took quarters all the money went to charity which is awesome. Also besides adult beverages, there was a nice selection of bottled sodas. Everyone in my party was amazed with this place and we're already planning our next outing to here. Went on a whim on a weekday evening and loved it! Quite a few people inside but not overly crowded. All you can play for 10 bucks can't beat that! They have something for everyone in the drinks department as well. I felt the game assortment was great, just wish there were a few more pinball games but that didn't hurt my enjoyment any. Free Play is like that -- except you don't have to roofie anyone to play with the cool toys. You don't even need quarters! This is emphatically *not* Dave & Busters. D&B is like a highfalutin Chuck E Cheese, but it's still like Chuck E Cheese. Free Play is an all-access arcade collection, with a well-stocked beer collection.
