Was excited to be back in Freebird's territory after several years away. Pulled up at 7:30 on a Tuesday and thought this location had gone out of business. I was concerned since there was no motion inside and no cars out front. Upon closer inspection I saw that the lights were on, so I tried the door and went in. The staff seemed surprised to have a fine in customer, but dutifully made my burrito. The good: Food was fine. Dining area was meticulously clean. Manager seems to be doing her best. The bad: Bathroom was a disaster and things in general were run down. The other employees were not rude, but clearly were not excited to be there. I would eat here again if I have a Freebirds craving, but if I was introducing someone to the chain, I'd probably take them to one of the other locations. read more

They ripped us off, seriously charged us for 3 drinks and there are just 2 of us. We pointed it out and they credited us for 1. Only to sit down and see the table tent that said large drinks are $1 from 2-5pm weekdays. We paid $6 for two medium drinks, and the chips and cheese were also on "happy hour" for 1/2 off, we paid full price. We went back to the counter and they said we had to say we were there for "happy hour" to get the "special". Are they trying to pi$$ people off or what? Of course anyone that sits down, reads the advertisement on every table will realize they just were stolen from. I don't write reviews often. But in today's economy I had to. We decided to try something different. My husband and I. We went to Freebirds. Normally, we are Chipotle people. Due to errands we had this was closer. Our impressions of this particular location, it's the only one I've been too, is not great. While the employees were sweet. That was the only positive. First, it was less than half the serving size of nearly everything compared to chipotle. We barely had any rice. It was mushy. Overcooked and left a smooth line when scooped from the container. It was discolored and not white even though white cilantro rice. More tan colored. The steak which is what I got dissolved in your mouth and had zero bite to it. Again, portions were minuscule. For nearly $12 it should have been a lot more. The veggies, I always get lots of veggies, were sprinkled on the bowl as if it was salt I was asking for. We ordered chips and queso. The queso was ok. Just ok. The bag of chips were mostly broken pieces. I had four whole chips. Not worth the $4.99 (I think I paid). Overall, my husband and I with one burrito and one bowl and a side of chips and queso was needless to say a waste of $30. This place was dead. We were the only ones there at 5pm. The windows needed a desperate cleaning and all employees talked loudly in the back or were on their phones. This was and is the only time we will eat at a Freebirds. We didn't think it was worth the money. At all. They are more expensive than Chipotle and less than have the size. The veggies weren't really fresh looking and quac was more pea green than it should be. I expected more and left very disappointed. Maybe it's just us being so used to Chipotle but this being a talked about place, we thought we'd try it. We will not be eating here again. We ended up not finishing our meal, throwing it all away, and left. Maybe they aren't all the same. I don't know. But this was our experience at this particular location. read more

It's better than chipotle but it's just your standard kind of overpriced "Mexican food" line where it's good for a lunch break but not something you'll crave when you're thinking of somewhere to go. Obviously if you go later in the day, the ingredients won't be very fresh so don't go in the last few hours they're open but the employee on the line was nice. I usually enjoy Freebirds and understand that staffing and busy times happen, but this experience was genuinely frustrating. We waited in line for 40 minutes, and during that entire time only one person was working the in-store line because another employee was focused solely on mobile orders. I completely get that mobile orders are part of the business now, but prioritizing them over customers who are physically standing in the restaurant doesn't feel appropriate. Several people ahead of us gave up and left -- at least five customers walked out because the wait was so long. That's not just inconvenient, it's avoidable. Long waits happen, but this felt less like a rush and more like a poor system. In-person customers shouldn't be an afterthought. I hope management rethinks how mobile orders are handled during peak times, because this kind of wait is absurd and will keep people from coming back. read more

WOW Freebirds has gone down the drain!!! First off let me say I worked at Freebirds for 3+ years back in 2010 and various times throughout college in 2013. My sister worked there for several years more recently until 2019. They had great fresh ingredients and great quality meats. I visit now about once every 6 months and this will be my last. Pretty sure my entire family feels the same way. They raised their prices and downgraded the meat as well as various other ingredients. I paid extra to have steak and pork in my tacos and the quality of the meat was less than it has ever been before. They got rid of the vinegary habanero sauce and replaced it with some gross looking salad dressing type habanero sauce. Even their beans and rice taste cheaper and grosser. They messed with the BBQ sauce ingredients and now it tastes like water. Freebirds doesn't stand a chance now that there is a Torchys Taco. I'm positive this place is going to go out of business due to their decisions to downgrade ingredients and raise prices. I'm never coming back. Don't need to waste my time or $9 for 3 tacos I threw away. They were that bad. read more

I absolutely love the food! I am fairly disappointed that they are no longer carrying the spinach flour tortilla as that was my husband's favorite. I would love to have the option of a gluten free tortilla for myself. The new brisket was very tender but had very little seasoning. It was more like an oven baked roast. Everything else was fantastic food wise. I'm always asking them to turn down the music so I can hear my husband talking to me. They always oblige. There is a wide variety of music that is played but the Screamo selections just are very unappealing. The restaurant was full of families with little kids. Maybe the music selection should be refined a bit. Last, but not least, our cashier asked us if wanted to tip. TACKY! Noone brought food to our table. No tip is warranted in my opinion. Welcome to the neighborhood!! After seeing a slew of new restaurants open up near Lake Conroe, it's nice to say we finally have a Freebirds in Conroe, Texas!! This is great news for locals who are tired of driving all the way to the Woodlands for decent grub. I am super stoked that this well run franchise took over for the horrendous Chinese restaurant that used to be in its place. When you just need a quick bite and aren't watching the waistline too closely than this place will definitely fill you up. The quality of the food is solid and the selection is endless. If you can't find a delicious combination from the extensive options they have here, then perhaps you shouldn't be eating out. The staff are on the ball and have better customer service skills than most fast food places. The have done an excellent job refabricating this location from it's previous incarnation. That last time I ate in here a few years ago, it was a scary Chinese restaurant that I vowed never to set foot in again. Today it's unrecognizable as a quirky and fun Freebirds. The minute you walk through the doors you are seconds from ordering up and eating an assembly line of mouth watering goodness. I tend to stick to the white meat chicken with a plenty of veggies. I have been twice in the last few weeks and both times I enjoyed my Freebird sized burrito. Go on knock yourself out and order some guac and queso on it. Yeah, it's a little extra but oh so yummy!! This is another Austin-based restaurant that's made it around the state, and it's good. The first thing you'll notice when you walk in is the funky decor, including a motorcycle hanging from the ceiling and a LOT of foil art pieces donning the dining area. If you've never been to Freebirds I'm not sure where you've been, but do yourself a favor and give it a try! It's like a cooler, more rocking Chipotle. I could go there just to sit and listen to the music. You have several choices to choose from. Burritos, salads, tacos, nachos, quesadillas, and burrito bowls. Of course, they are known for their burritos. They come in 3 sizes: hybrid, freebird, and MONSTER (all caps for emphasis). They have different flavors of tortillas for their burritos also: flour, wheat, or cayenne. You have steak/beef, chicken, carnitas, or a veggie burrito with several things to choose to go inside, or on top of, your bowl or burrito. Their salads are a great mixture of greens! You can choose your types of rice (Spanish or cilantro), beans (pinto, retried, or black), and different items like pico de gallo, cilantro, jalapeños, guacamole, etc... You can get a meal with chips and queso and a drink. They also have desserts that are pretty good. The only reason I bump them down a star is their light serving of guacamole. They use a regular-size spoon for a small scoop of guac. For $2 that's a bit chintzy. Also, I must brag on the customer service here. They go out of their way to make sure the customer is taken care of! I am a during the work week lunch customer so am reviewing from that space. I can't speak to what the evenings are like here but the lunch staff and service are top notch. I always receive great service with a great attitude. The food is fantastic if you like burritos and who doesn't? I always drown my selection in the house habanero sauce which is delicious! This place is always very clean as well. Great food, great service and great music while you eat. Winning! Also someone had posted they don't have limes but serve Mexican beer. I have a long standing history with Freebirds. I first visited their Northgate location in College Station around 1997. They have grown up big time since then, offering a wide variety of ingredients to mix and match your burrito to your taste buds. They also offer more than just burritos these days. If you want the best experience at Freebirds, try and hit them on the front end of lunch or during the rush of lunch and dinner. Everything will be nice and fresh.
