My friend and I were looking for Tex-Mex yesterday while shopping in Conroe. I looked at Yelp for suggestions and Rana's Mexican Grill was at the top of the list. We arrived around noon and were seated right away. We received chips with red and green sauce. I only had the green and it was delicious! We both ordered from the lunch menu. I ordered chicken enchilada verdes and my friend ordered nachos with beef fajita meat. Our server was very sweet. She assured me that the verde sauce was very mild and she was correct! It was perfect. Our food was brought out very fast. Everything was great. The prices were reasonable too. I hadn't eaten all day and I was so happy to have food, I totally forgot to take any pictures. You know what that means??? I'll have to go back so I can take pics for Yelp!!! LOL!! There was plenty of parking. The parking lot was clean and looked safe. It's right across 105 from Conroe High School (my old school...class of '82). The restaurant was also clean plus nice and quiet. I highly recommend going to Rana's if you are in the Conroe area. read more

We love Rana's !!! It's our go to joint for Mexican/Tex -Mex. It's seems to be better every time we go. My only suggestion is minor. I just wish the salsa bowls were bigger. It's hard to dip your chip. But the food and service are fantastic !!! read more

This location is in a strip mall. It is a smaller location but the service is quick and efficient. There is minimal decor. The salsa was warm which is different but was good and had a bit of spice kick. The chicken street tacos were good, I enjoyed the refried beans. There was a 3% charge for using a credit card but there wasn't a sign or note on the menu calling this out, I just caught it when the ticket balance didn't match the credit card charge. It should be called out prior to paying so customers have the option to use cash. read more

Server was awesome. Thank you Sheila! We ordered ELPastor Nacho's to share. I'm sorry I wanted to like it so bad but the chips were too thick for my liking but that's a personal choice. The Nacho topping was more in the center of the plate and the chips were on outside of the plate. The taste was very bland to me as well. I am going back because I've heard the food is really good. Best salsa in north Houston hands down. It's soooo addictive. Food is fine, margaritas are strong.

Mini tacos with carnitas was banging. They added all the best sides, avocado, sour cream, and jalapeños. Mm good!! My husband enjoyed his fish plate, service was timely. Let's be honest, if you want a hidden gem, then don't share the good news about your favorite spot. However, Ranas is no longer Conroe's secret spot! The best margarita in town, the food is fabulous and even has a great Hamburger too. Shayla is the best server and this place is family owned and ran. Don't go expecting a fancy ambiance, this place is no frills and they waste no effort on stuff that doesn't matter. Why 4 stars? Because this was definitely some high quality Tex-Mex. --- --- --- In my quest to find the area's best Tex-Mex, I was very excited to check out Rana's, where the reviews were really great. While I wish we could have dined in, our 2.5 year old prevents us from being able to "enjoy" meals out these days, so we opted for pick-up. As usual, we went with the mainstays: fajitas, rice-n-beans, chips-n-queso. Rana's is a bit different than all of the big Tex-Mex chains, in that, everything is not super-sized. The tortillas are more taco-sized than burrito-sized. The fajita meat is also a bit more modest. Instead of giant peppers and onions, you get small onions and some pico de gallo. But with all that said - we really enjoyed it. And definitely wish we would have been able to enjoy it in the restaurant, where I'm sure it would have been even better. The chips and queso were almost too enjoyable because I could not stop eating them. We will definitely be back - in person, this time - where I expect I might be updating my rating to 5-stars. read more

Great service. Very friendly. The warm salsa takes a little getting used to but has super flavor. We've been here twice and ordered different things each time just because the flavor was so amazing we had to try new, different things. I will definitely be re-visiting the fajitas again (although I might try chicken - the beef was a little tough). Oh yea. The margaritas are tasty as well - not too sweet. Wow. The food here is amazing. We had Enchiladas Verdes Caldo de Pollo Soup beef Mini Taco Plate and beef fajita Tacos al Carbon. Margarita on the rocks a guava and a peach frozen marg. When i say all of these dishes and beverages are a 10/10, i mean it!! The owner was there and she accompanied us with such grace and kindness! My new spot when I'm in Conroe. Wow what amazing guacamole they have!! The guacamole was so good we order another order. The food is great and the prices are very reasonable. As others have posted the place is small restaurant in a strip center. The outside is not fancy, but the interior is very cozy and extremely clean. Our server was polite and they always attended to our needs. I had fajitas and an extra cheese enchilada. The cheese enchilada I would give only 4 stars. Not my favorite. I absolutely loved my entree and friendly experience I had here. Sadly my 5 star review is missing with some of my pics. Carlos the owner was very present in the restaurant at my visit and really cared about every patron. I'm so Glad to see he is successful and doing well. I remember his original story which I won't mention at this time. Congratulations Carlos :)!!! First off Carlos serves up authentic recipes and not the boring generic Tex Mex. I had the pleasure to dine on his Super fresh tasting Tilapia entree with the freshest crawfish, shrimp and mushrooms in a creamy wine sauce. The beans were delicious also with that house cooked taste. I see so many other entrees I would like to try. Need to re-visit soon! Highly recommend :)! What a pleasant surprise!! We were in the immediate area, craving some Mexican food. My handy dandy Yelp all recommended Rana's. Admittedly, my expectations weren't high - we were just really hungry. After the food start coming out, we realized that we hit the jackpot. First - queso. We ordered a small. After we tried it, it kinda disappeared leaving us no choice but to order another one. Then, guacamole. Perfecto. Then the meals started coming out. EVERYTHING was awesome. And just when I thought I couldn't eat anymore, I saw flan at the next table. After reading yelp reviews my husband and I decided to try this place. Its just one of those restaurants that blends in with others nothing fantastic and overly priced. The food was OK however the rice taste like straight up garlic and this is coming from someone who likes garlic. The red salsa was good the green salsa was very salty. The waitress was very friendly after she gave me a dirty menu she went and grabbed a clean 1 for me. I'm all about supporting local businesses, but this 1 just wasn't a winner. As it turns out all of us except one person (who didn't have any of it) has been knocked down with salmonella poisoning. This place was okay. It wasn't amazing and it wasn't bad either. Their prices are pretty good, the people are friendly and know their many really well. Just it was okay. Got two margaritas, frozen, with salt and they tasted like a typical margarita mix. Nothing special about them at all. Had to ask for waters separately because I don't know why. I had the tequila fajitas. The best part was it said it was covered with jack cheese. "Covered" was literally the thinnest 1x1 square of cheese I've seen. Whatever it's bad for me so I'll just ignore it. Their yellow rice was okay. The charro beans weren't good. The tortillas had sat for too long and were super crispy. Would break making a taco. I'm sad that they had such great reviews for how mediocre the food was. Maybe they just had super bad Mexican there and this is the best they have. Don't know. It wasn't disgusting food by any regard. But it wasn't good. Does that make sense? Hard to describe but I think that sums it up perfectly.
