Spacious burrito place with energetic and nice workers, great food, and fast service! Ordered a pick up ordered for chips and queso, and it was ready in minutes. When I went inside to pick it up, there was no line and the workers helped me immediately. The place was empty, and there were a lot of tables. The floors and tables were very clean, and the music was not too loud. I will have to come back and dine in next time I'm in the area! Chips and queso were great. The chips came in a packaged bag and were plentiful. THe queso came in a little cup and was warm. I wish they were more generous with the queso though- perhaps a larger cup. Don't get me wrong, I love free birds, 10/10, but my experience just wasn't the best today. I ordered a free bird and a monster, tell me why the free bird is bigger than the monster? Like double the price for what?!? And they were low on ingredients, $15 for a a burrito that doesn't have what I want?!? Also the lady there was doing a terrible job, she was slow and rude, 0% customer service when that's literally your job, and she was also on her phone in the middle of my order, unprofessional and disgusting, like your phone is the dirtiest thing you're going to touch all day, at least change your gloves before you touch my food. read more

First time coming to this place! I ordered online and picked up. The service for pick up was smooth and easy. The Inside was fairly large, the staff was friendly and it was clean. The walk around to get to the counter is a bit much but I get the point of it. I got a monster burrito I definitely was eating with my eyes because it was huge and I barley got through half of it. I added lots of toppings. I liked that there were two kinds of lettuce. I liked the bottled drinks selection and got some Vitamin water. Freebirds has been my place to go for burritos for over 20 years. It is not the best but it is always there. I remember the days when you could order a super monster burrito (3 pounds!). It was great back then in my college years during a hangover and it is great now with the kids. On Sundays kids get a free meal with every adult entree. The people behind the counter are always friendly too. The place is casual and the decorations are cool (a bit of Austin-like decor). Get your burrito after a big workout, it tastes like heaven. I've eaten from this location several times but this was my first time ordering delicious through their app. The ordering process was quick and easy. My food arrived quickly via doordash. Unfortunately that's where the good things ended. The seasoned chicken on my burrito bowl was undercooked and more fat than meat for the few cooked pieces. Once I saw a fully rare piece of chicken, I completely stopped eating. That was about 1/3 of the way into the bowl. If I wake up with intense stomach cramps in the middle of the night, I already know the culprit. Sadly, that was wasted money because I threw it right in the trash. The large chips and queso was not "large" by any means, and was in fact mostly the bottom-of-the-barrel broken pieces and crumbs. They also didn't add the marshmallow treat I ordered and paid for. This was my most disappointing experience with this chain and location to date. I was too hungry for these shenanigans, and I hate wasting money, so I'll likely avoid them for a while. read more

Overall impression: Freebirds is always amazing but the customer service at this location is the best! Average price: $7-8 If you haven't been to a freebirds yet, just try it out. It's great. It's basically a better chipotle (didn't even think that was possible). I always end up getting the nachos, although I'm sure the burritos are great. Every time I have come here the workers have always been so nice, cheerful, and most of all, accommodating. I always feel bad when it takes me awhile to decide on something but these guys don't even care how long I take to decide. They even give little tips and will give you a little extra of whatever if you want it. They cut up lemons and lime just for us one night when they had run low. The location is also very clean. Free parking. Lots of dining space. Can't give this place any more credit because it's just great. read more

Freebirds is something that grows with you as a person. Not in the "eww that looks like cancer" way but more like how year six students at Hogwarts would look back at themselves in year one and just shake their heads, smiling at how far they had come. In short: you've come a long way (from College Station) baby. I still wear the tshirt I earned back in 'ye olden college days when the incentive punch cards allowed you to work your way up to a free tshirt given enough time and frat party hangovers that only a burrito could cure. In those days a Monster burrito was required and I wanted the person behind the counter to MAKE IT RAIN with queso. In law school a burrito (generally of the smaller "freebird" ilk) became a standard close-out to a rough day. And as I started maturing I went more with the health-conscious lettuce and guacamole alternative to the aforesaid queso rain-making. Out in the work force I have retained Freebirds as a completely legit lunch spot to meet with students or cool "young professionals" because I like the concept of plentiful food options, free soda refills, and friendly workers. The "punch card incentive program" did away with the punch card and is now a plastic card to swipe at the register. And a tshirt is no longer available on the incentive program, only free burritos. So some things do change. But Chipotle still offers you ... nothing, yeah, nothing for being a regular. So some things do remain the same. This location has consistently presented me with incredibly friendly and service-oriented workers. The food has always been properly prepared. Free: I had managed to retain my "free rev up" card from the Yelp Winter Hoedown Throwdown and it was about to expire so I had to use it! Birds: the chicken was very tasty in the burrito. Or for a more innuendo based take on the word, I gave the bird to Chipotle just a little down the street and continued driving until I hit Freebirds. World: if I could choose any burrito chain in the world, notwithstanding the free rev up card I had to use, I think Freebirds would always beat out Mission Burrito, Chipotle, and other amateurs. Burrito: the burrito is what brought me in the front door, the queso made me stay. The worst thing about this place is how the big guy (4u) management systematically denies workers extra hours, especially workers that really need it. It is a corporate consideration of course, and the managers need to stay employed so they are not likely to fight the power and risk their job. It is just something to keep in mind as you shuffle through the line and consider giving a tip at the register - oftentimes they could use it and highly appreciate it when it randomly happens. read more

For my first time visiting Freebirds. I was expecting it to taste better Chipotle's but quitely have a wide range of burrito meat options. When I first arrived the atmosphere was laid back, but the service was TERRIBLE. The line consistened of one guy waiting to a ton of people waiting behind me. The staff didn't acknowledge the guy waiting. They instead asked me to place my order. I had to mention to the lady that he, was first and waiting longer than I was. The guy got this food, but did not pay awkwardly. When I got to the cashier the lady asked me if I was going to grab his tab. Hell, I don't even know the guy let alone am I going to pay for his meal. I don't think so. This particular day was very short staffed. I'm not sure what the other employees were doing in the back. But I surely know, they were not in the front helping out their crew members. It was just women workers, 1 lady on the grille and another one preparing the orders and cashiering. I ordered the grilled steak freebird burrito with a bottled cola. The options were minimum they didn't have any barbacoa and I was kinda looking to have that go on my burrito. The steak wasn't fresh nor was the bell peppers. The onions & bell peppers weren't sliced right. It was too thick to consume & tasted old. The lady preparing my burrito ran out of grilled steak and was scraping literally from the bottom of the pan for more. I had to wait 15 minutes for more steak. Out of all the options I added to my burrito it totally lacked in flavor. The queso didn't taste like a base cheese flavor, it was runny & watered down. The cilantro lime rice, was suppose to be cliantro & lime. I couldn't taste none of it. Umm.. so, I'm pretty puzzled by the missing flavors. Why didn't I taste the flavors of the other add-ons? While, I was eating I kept thinking that to myself. . why.. hmm. Team work most definately does not play a part here. Some guy came out the back, he had the dullest & clueless look on his face. Like he didn't understand what was going on. The options on the add-ons was varietied, but not extensive. I was hoping again the taste would unravel soon, but it never did disappointly. Chipotle is out sadly. Freebirds is too.. due to the lack of a seeking flavor that may not be found. So, my last resort is always Taco Cabana, but not on Bay Area and that's a different story. Happies: +3 tacos, chips and (delicious) salsa, and a refillable drink for $6!! +Chewytasty corn tortillas, 3 opportunities for filling combos (provided you get a patient server), and a crap-ton of beverage options from their soda fountain. +Who woulda thought to put BBQ sauce on a burrito? Thankfully Freebirds. +The staff comes out to check on you, even if you stick around for like 3 hours after you've eaten. They keep your (perfectly salted) chips basket full, offer to refill your drink, etc. etc. etc. Crappies: -High-school folks on the grill line who need to learn that if you scratch your hair with the glove on, you might as well not wear the glove. -We can tell when diced tomatoes are old. To me, Freebirds is the standard for Burritos. Not to say it can't be exceeded, but you're going to have to bring your "A" game! Start with the customer service. Way above average. If anything, too much above average. The staff makes a point to greet you when you come in, if you're waiting in line and they're serving someone in front of you, they'll address you and assure you that you'll be served soon. They make the rounds in the dining room and ask if your expectations are met. All good, sometimes, I'd rather just be able to walk through and order without so much interaction. The order process is different than most other places. You will walk through step by step with your ingredients. Which is key to meeting your taste expectations, but there's a lot of questions. There's no "just give me the regular" like at Subway or with a Big Mac. Just be ready for it, and have an idea what you want going in. The strength of Freebirds is their variety. Other burrito places have a few choices, here you get every vegetable imaginable, plus 6 sauces (including habenero and death which may not be listed), other ingredients are hot, cold, spicy, mild. And four different tortillas (flour, wheat, spinach, cayenne). Best atmosphere of any burrito place. Including the staff, which is always quirky, upbeat, and into customer satisfaction. The line moves fast, don't be discouraged if there's a few folks in front of you. Ingredients are fresh, their system works, you can order online before you go for immediate pick up. If you haven't tried it, you should, it's a Texas kind of place (started in College Station, migrated to Austin, it's that kind of local chain). read more

We used to frequent Freebirds often at their Pasadena location, but the food and service lost quality. After a year away from the chain, we have this location a try and were very pleased. The staff was friendly and talkative when it came to options, even explaining the new vegan options to use and letting us try samples. Despite the start of the lunch rush, they were fast and we were able to sit without food within a few minutes. The food was tasty and the establishment was cleaner than other Freebirds we've visited. Overall it is a good place for a quick bite. The only item is the price, which is a little more than I prefer for lunch: $22 for two burrito bowls, two drinks, and chips and queso. This is a cafeteria style, order at the counter, select ingredients, pay at the counter and take your food to the table with you, place. This is another place we used to go every week for a few years up to a couple of years ago They're good or we wouldn't have done them for so long. But, we finally burned out, which eventually happens with every restaurant. We were headed to Pot Belly's when I suggested we try Freebirds again. They're still good, but they used to be quiet. Now they have obnoxious music blaring and driving everybody's talk up so it's become LOUD. We share the regular Freebird (I guess it's called a burrito), with shredded pork, beans, corn, onions and queso. Yelp didn't ask me about sound level and apparently most people answer average. Either these people's hearing has been damaged by car speakers you can hear 50 feet away with the windows rolled up or they've come at a different time. I really wish I can give them 3.5 stars, but 4/5 would be pushing it a little for me. That being said I would go to Freebirds over Chipotle any time. The decorum gives a very hiptser vibe, but I don't dislike it. I like that they have more than just white or wheat tortillas because the cayenne flavor tortilla rocks my world. Lately though I've been getting burritos bowls (sans the tortilla) when I want to feel like I'm eating a "meal." Every Freebirds place I've been to, the guys at the counter have been pretty quick to strike up a conversation and create a friendly atmosphere. I don't really get that from this place, but they are attentive and polite just the same. I seem to go at a time when there isn't a lot of people so I've never had a problem with noise. Let's talk about the food. I've been to a lot of Freebirds in the past, this place twice. I don't have any complaints about the quality or freshness. I've tried the chicken and grassfed beef steak and I liked them both. The beef was tender, with one or two grissly bites that I was glad to feed to my dog. I always get the dark meat cut of chicken so it's always juicy. I love their choice of veggies. I always go for the grilled ones and corn salsa. I might go as far to say I would be just as content making a vegetarian style burrito here. Now that being said, I will say I haven't had consist meals, even though I've ordered pretty much the same thing here. The first time I came here the guy skimped on the protein. I think he was trying to shake out the excess, but he ended up underscooping by doing so. I almost asked for double meat, but the extra $2.25 would not justify it. The second time the girl scooped out a very fair amount of beef. Not over filling the scoop but not being able to see the inside of the ladle either. I think about my first time there and now feel like I was robbed. Their mango chile salsa (is that what you call it?) is very flavorful. I wish I can take a bottle of that with me. Oh and btw, they wrap their burritos the best I have ever seen. Are you reading this Chipotle?!? Please come here and watch how to wrap a burrito properly. And take notes while you're here. I have to give their brownies there own section. Freebirds make the best brownies. Ever. Period. They really are -special-. So rich and decadent. I've never bet able to polish off a brownie in one sitting. Make sure you have some milk with it. All in all this is a good place to grab a bite for lunch, by yourself or with a few friends. Depending on the time it can be packed or it can be bare. Although not pricey compared to their burrito competitors, there are more reasonably priced places in the area that will give you more food for the same or lesser price. It is kinda pricey for Mexican food. But the quality and atmosphere still makes for a good lunch option. But that brownie though. :-P read more

I have grown up going to this specific location. After HS I haven't been when I moved. I placed an order yesterday through Door Dash at 3:57 p.m., however I had made the mistake and pressed the steak nachos versus chicken. As a former manager at a good restaurant, I am familiar with utilizing Waitr and Door Dash for Togo orders. You receive an iPad from Waitr to receive orders and the customer's contact info and with Door Dash you get a middle man (a representative calls in the order and you have no interaction with the customer). So I immediately called the store at 3:59 pm to tell them don't make that order/I'm about to fix It on Door Dash. However the phone line was busy and I couldn't be connected.... i called several times. After 5 minutes I called the Pasadena location in hopes that someone knew an employee from the store personally. I honestly was on a mission to get a hold of someone, even when the gentleman offered to email/explain how they may not receive it right a why.. I still asked to send It anyways. Even door dashed couldn't get a hold of anyone at the Bay Area location. The phones were apparently not working. We even told the driver to let them know to 86 the steak. (I honestly didn't care about the $2 charge I just didn't want steak) I finally received a call from the location and felt relieved, however the rude girl told me they were notified about the order change but It had already been made. Her exact words " I do not feel comfortable remaking this for you" and one of the reasons she gave me was because steak is so expensive. However she couldn't tell me why their phones were disconnected. At 4:15 p.m. I cancelled my order. I will never come to this location again since the people who represent this location do not know how to handle situations like this and treat customers trying to resolve/help. I know how It can be, I've been in your shoes before. I live not even two miles away from Bay Area. So if I have to drive to Pasadena to enjoy Freebirds again, so be It. The people who represent the company at Pasadena did turn the situation around and It reminded me why I fell in love with Freebirds when I was a little girl. read more

My first time trying Freebirds. I've always heard good things. I was help by the manager, Blaine, who was very welcoming. I chose the spinach wrap burrito but was undecided on the choice of meat. First choice was steak then I quickly changed to chicken. He offered if I would like half and half, which was a better idea! He went as far as naming all my topping options as we moved down the line. It was my first time visiting Freebirds in a while, like years, and I had a good experience. When I asked them to tell me about the restaurant, they told me that it was like Chipotle, only better, which is a pretty big claim. I got the nachos (happy with the variety) with the chicken and a whole bunch of toppings. It tasted great. I also had some limeade, which was something different to see in a soda machine, and that tasted great too. Overall, I was very happy with my food, and I can say that the flavors were a bit more complex than Chipotle. They have brisket available for an extra $4, however it tasted very chewy and dry. I understand they are advertising the burnt ends, but they overdid it a little bit too much. I didn't get a receipt, however they did make me sign the store copy. read more

Truly a 3.5 star rating but what can you do with Yelp's full-integer star rating system? I'm also not a fan of reviewing chain places unless something helps it stand out. (This is "foreshadowing", for all you English Composition home-gamers.) The Clear Lake suburbs of our metro area are hardly the place where I'd imagine goth, punk, or hipster concentrations to happen. This is the home of NASA space nerds after all. Having grown up in the area, the first thing to pop out of my head is "boring". To throw some old-school Latin at you, it is suburbia in excelsis. Walking into this outpost of the College Station based business on a bustling Saturday, there must have been at least 10 pierced and tattooed staff members. Ironically, they all looked very well scrubbed so I think it was all just for show. I'll bet those tattoos were the temporary kind, too. My mom, sister, and I all had our Hybird burritos on a spinach tortilla but they had several other options, too. The Hybird is the smallest of the four sizes. Forgive me for saying this but the Monster and Super Monster sizes just looked obscene - and I know obscene sizing. This BYOB concept (build your own burrito) concept was thoroughly confusing to my mom - luckily, she had her menu card in line so that she could firm up her choices. I had the chicken Hybird ($4.99) while my sister and mom each had the steak ($5.49). Tasty corn salsa stood out from the other fresh ingredients. The pierced first worker was very pleasant and tried to engage us in small talk by asking how our day went. The dude who prepped our order was also very pleasant - no anti-Establishment hostility was there. Even the cashier punk was nice. Later on, a smiling gal dressed in what I would call "Amish punk" asked us how everything was as she swept up the crumbs from underneath another table.* So, if you like your burritos big, filling, and tasty while your punk/alt encounters mild, well-scrubbed, and non-threatening, this Clear Lake outpost is just for you. * What is "Amish punk", you ask? I'm not trying to insult anyone's customer service but this day was by far the best day I have ever experienced with free birds. Blaine was particularly helpful and explained a lot to me! He was very attentive such as when he noticed I asked about beyond meat he knew to mention to me the Ingredients of things that were not vegan friendly! Talk about impeccable customer service, granted I might have still got a few things that weren't 100% vegan but that's just how much I enjoy free birds.
