I've slowly been collecting all the Gorge breweries according to the stamp book, and this one was the furthest away from me. I had actually never stopped in The Dalles despite numerous road trips through the area, and this was a great place to take a break and sample some beers. The location is beautiful, and is an old building with tons of interior space for the fermentation tanks and the tap room itself. There is plenty of seating outside and in, and they serve a variety of food. I went with a half order of pork nachos for six dollars, and it was huge! They honestly were just ok, but for the price it cannot be beat. Now onto the beer. Out of the six beers I tried, my favorite two were the Cherry Heights along with the Bake Oven Black Lager. The Cherry Heights is a seasonal beer made for the cherry festival that was going on, and is a delicious Weissbeir that I greatly enjoyed. The Black Lager was also delicious, and a great German-style beer that you don't see very often. The other beer was also good, with another stand out being the Harvester IPA. I recommend stopping here if you're in the Gorge, or just driving through. read more

Moving to The Dalles during the pandemic was a strange experience as everything was closed once we were settled in our new home. Seems like Freebridge was one of the first places we were able to visit, and we loved it right away. Their COVID precautions are in line with state mandates and made you feel safe to be there. The outdoor seating is also really nice. Freebridge reminds me of the cool breweries I'd frequent when I lived in Portland. Phase 1 IPA is my favorite beer they brew, and their pizza with a beer cheese base is amaze-town USA. Check them out when you can! read more

The atmosphere is a clean, well lit and comfortable, if little bit Spartan. They have a few games to pick from (if that is your thing). You can also sit on the deck, which overlooks the brewing tanks (if you want the "authentic" experience.) We were there around noon on a Saturday and had the place almost completely to ourselves. The service was very small town pleasant. There was a large selection of beers that I would categorize as "good but not great." They have the typical pub fare. I ordered the pretzel bites (so I would not get too tipsy from the beer) and they were also "very good but not great." Worth a visit, if you are in town. read more

Freebridge has to be one of my favorite finds while in The Dalles. Their beer is excellent and the menu has a lot of great options if you plan to eat too. The Suicide IPA has to be one of my favorite beers of all time. I always leave with a growler to share later with friends. I find the servers to be extremely friendly and attentive. It's Sunday night. We walked into the brewery with no other person in sight. They were about to close. Our bartender Shannon was extremely nice. Even though we were the only ones there, she still took our order. And the food was fabulous. I had the pulled pork sandwich with Apple slaw and unfortunately I don't remember what beer I had, but it was good as well. My husband had nachos with chilli. Boyfriend and I stopped here on our way through the dalles looking to knock out another brewery on our breweries in the gorge passport. It's located in an old building which is easy to miss if you don't know exactly where you're going. That being said, the location is quaint, welcoming, and cozy on the inside. The beer was very good although we kind of sold ourselves short by not getting a tasting flight as we usually do. What we did have though was delicious, especially the imperial ipa. When it came to the food, my boyfriend LOVED his burger and my Cuban sandwich was delicious. A few minor disappointments with the food in general though: they don't have fries (only chips, which are tasty but don't really fill you up), no wood fired oven pizza, and they don't make their own bbq sauce (sweet baby rays....nasty). But maybe that's all just me being nitpicky. Overall, I highly recommend Freebridge,and will definitely be back to sample more of their beers next time we're out by the dalles. read more

I am absolutely excited that The Dalles finally has a brewery and I think it is wonderful that The Dalles is now on the "beer map". But I'm just not sold on the beer quite yet. My first visit was opening weekend, and if I recall correctly, they only had 3 beers on tap. I didn't care for any of them at the time. This past weekend we visited again and the beer list is certainly growing. The beer is okay, but that's it, just okay. I know they are probably still experimenting and will introduce more and different beers, but for now I am feeling very "meh" about what they do have. I mostly drink IPAs, but unfortunately the Harvester IPA is just not my style. It's not a smooth beer at all in my opinion. I get that some people like that, but I prefer my beers a little less harsh. For now, if I am visiting the brewery, I will stick with the lager. The only food I have tried is the nachos and they left me feeling a bit disappointed. Not nearly enough cheese and WAY TOO MUCH Frank's Red Hot. Although, the folks at the table next to ours ordered the same thing and they raved about loving the all hot sauce. So clearly, it's preference. All-in-all it's a solid brewery and I think it will get better and better as time goes by. They have already improved by adding the outside seating area. No complaints there! It will be interesting to see if this brewery opening in TD is the start of many more coming to the area. I sure hope it is anyway. read more

Nice brewpub, though a little hard to find unless you are in the know. The brewpub is in the back of the brewery and although an OPEN sign appears on the outside, there is no sign indicating that the restaurant is at this location. Follow the signs to the "Tasting Room." They had a very nice selection of their own brews in a variety of different styles ranging from very hoppy to much softer varieties. My wife and I enjoyed the stout and a wheat beer and both were very nice. The food selection is limited and a bit eccentric, but very tasty. We enjoyed the smoked salmon pizza with capers and dressed with a bit of balsamic vinegar. All their pies are on a very thin crispy crust. Friendly service and a nice atmosphere. We were there on a Sunday evening and there was an acoustic bluegrass band playing to the delight of a small but enthusiastic crowd. read more

I ordered the chili which was good but too spicy for me so I asked to exchange it for the pulled pork sliders. I wasn't sure I'd like them because they have a little slaw on them. They were amazing. We also ordered the pretzel bites. That is one of my favorites back home. These were bigger and more like wheat bread. Again, very good. To top it off an "approachable" dry stout. Again, didn't expect to like it because I tend to not like dry beers or wines. Wrong again. Very good. Ordered another. I almost never do that! They were very polite when I said I couldn't handle the chili. Some of the music is not to my taste but some of the songs I like very much and they're not too loud. You can still have a conversation with your companions. Over all a very cool place in a very cool historical building. A failed US Mint! Will return whenever I'm in the area. Cool place. I've worked in the food industry so know how crazy it gets during a busy time but was ignored by the bar staff. Was hoping for a quick stop for good food and it turned into a 1 hour 45 minute trip. The locals may love it but I would not recommend stopping in if you're on the road. read more

We've stopped here every few weeks for a couple of years, the beer is good with nice variety of choices- also local wines & cider. In the past year we've really noticed a decline in the service and the kitchen seems to be out of a lot of product (which the server may or may not inform you.) The only reason I am giving a 2 star is because the Beer and Kombucha was good. Other than that, it was really just bad, like baaadd. The service was so extremely slow, with no crowd at all. I have sat at a brewery that was PACKED and got my food faster than today. We sat with empty beers and water for 20 minutes, let alone waited for our food for nearly an hour after ordering. When the food came, the hummus plate had old vegtables... I ordered a $10 hummus plate with old shriveled up olive and peppers. Such nonsense. It's hard to be a server myself and see the server give absolutely no attention to the guests. She would tell the guests to pass their own food around and seemed like she had no interest in giving us a good experience. Never checked up on us until we were done with our food and just wanted to leave. She also gave canned soda (root beer) to two of us, but then gave one of us a bottled one?? We arrived in town with 2 recommendations to Freebridge Brewing. While it looked like Rivertap was more hopping, we made it to Freebridge. Glad we chose this place! We enjoyed the Freebridge pizza for dinner and tried many of their beers, including the Harvester IPA; amazing! Had a nice chat w/ Steve the owner/brewer. While Hood River is all the rage, Freebridge is making their mark in The Dalles. We will come back next time we come through here and will ask our local pub to feature their beers. read more

We just stopped in for a quick drink and snack while walking around town on our first day here in The Dalles. I got the Scandalous pale ale and my boyfriend got a lager, both were delicious and very smooth. We also got some pretzel bites, which were delicious, but didn't have that golden chewy exterior I'm really looking for in a pretzel. Heading home and found this gem. It was a little hard to find on the map. Look to the left and you will see it. Pizza is artisan and has the perfect crust. Variety of beers on tap. Great atmosphere. After reading the reviews, I was 50/50 if this was going to be any good. But we sat down, ordered a beer and a local wine. The wine tasted awkward and our server gladly swapped it. We ordered the chili, BBQ sliders and custom pizza ...all cam out perfect: chili was good flavor, slider pork was well seasoned and hot, and the pizza was really good (we ordered it extra crispy because of some of the reviews). We finished eating and swapped to the outdoor section, our server and great service followed ... would definitely go back! read more

The service was good, alcohol was great. We ordered a pizza which was fairly tasty but not stellar. The crust wasn't solid enough to hold the toppings so it had to be eaten with a fork. I drink at many brew pubs - probably 5 or more a month due to travel and strong preference for good beer & good energy. Their flagship award winning Pilsner was quite nice. I am fan of NW style ipas - I was not let down. My rack was the Pilsner - 4 IPAS - Stout (in the pizza as well). The Service was - very good. The pizza is quite tasty for a wheat crust. Their claim to fame - Our dough is water-less blend of our Muleskinner Stout, honey, and high-gluten wheat flour. Let's keep it simple - I could have that same meal and beer rack once a week and be very happy. I WILL be BACK ! read more
