There is a reason that Freedman Auto Service gets a high rating. First of all, they treat customers with respect, answering your question patiently and to the point. Second, they give honest and competitive price estimation. I have been to three car shops before I choose this one. Here is my experience. My car is 13 years old and I only have services at the dealer. There is no major issue until one month ago. I heard louder than normal noise during driving my car. I did an intermediate maintenance service and have my car checked at the dealer. The dealer replaced the wheel bearing at the passenger side and said the driver side had smaller noise so they didn't replace it. They said they had checked both sides and thought driver side was OK. However, they suggested a lot other services I didn't order, like alignment, replace break pad. The bill is over $1000. I'm fine if they fixed the issue. But the truth is, they didn't. After just a week I heard louder and louder noise until I cannot hear the music in my car. And I could feel the vibration of my car and afraid the engine went wrong. I called the dealer, they said it must be the driver side wheel bearing. I asked why they didn't find it before. I didn't trust them anymore. I did a lot of research on the internet and read lots of diagnostic discussions and made my own conclusion that it's the wheel bearing need to be replaced. I went to another car repair service near my home and get a quote. But the quote included both wheel bearing and hub. I did a research again and found it may not be necessary to replace the hub. So I asked a quote without the hub. Guess what, they said if I didn't want to replace the hub, they will charge me $75 more for the labor. I don't understand the logic behind. Finally, I called Freedman because of the good review. I asked the price quote for replacing wheel bearing with or without a hub. They explained to me some car model had low quality hub that might need to replace every time. But for my car model, the hub is very strong and won't need to be replaced in most cases. I agree to give it a try to check if I can save the hub ($100). In the shop, I'm glad to see they treat other customers with care. And the supervisor guided the technician to take extra care of my car because there is a sensor on the wheel bearing. And it turned out the hub did not need to be replaced. And they even saved more $10 for me because they found parts with lower price. read more

My family and I have been going to Freedman for years. We appreciate Jake, his staff, and their warmth. His prices for tires, customer support, and BASIC service has always been great. This past year I needed my engine rebuilt and entrusted Jake to do the work. 1. The work took months. Freedman did not come through on getting his work done in a timely matter. There were weeks I would call for updates and my calls were never returned. I was ignored. 2. I had multiple major engine failures after Freedman's service. I will put some of this on my car as part of normal wear and tear. However, I had to return to his shop at least 3 times for major systems failures. One thing going wrong is believable. Two things, pushing it, but plausible. Three or more, that's a sign of bad workmanship. 3. In the months since the work was completed I have found many missing parts, loose, leaking and unsecured engine components. 3. I continue having problems with the car. It has never run smoothly since having been worked on at Freedman Tire. 4. Recently I discovered the spark plugs they put in were all different. 2 were platinum thin tip, 1 platinum standard, 1 copper, and each one was gapped differently! 5. Radiator hoses left unsecured beneath the engine. 6. Radiator fan screws left loose. 7. Banjo bolt and tubing for sensor never replaced, vacuum and oil leaking from unattached piping. 8. I had to borrow a car for most of last year because Freedman 'was working' on my car. His workmanship cost me thousands and multiple returns. I continue to discover missing parts and things that were done wrong. Their work continues to cost me time and money in further repairs. I will not go back to Freedman for any reason, it's a waste of my time. They are not reliable for major repairs and their workmanship is subpar. If all you need are tires, balancing, or brakes, they're your guys. DO NOT GO HERE FOR ENGINE REPAIR. read more

We were involved in an accident on the NJ Turnpike on our way to family vacation in NC in August. It was a terrifying experience, and we consider ourselves blessed that we were not injured. Our vehicle, on the other hand, had a flat and sustained damage to the body. Unsure of whether the vehicle could continue on the trip, I checked out this site for an auto repair and was referred to Freedmans by a body shop. Our family was overwhelmed by the kindness that Jake and the entire team showed us. They empathized with our situation and quickly got our vehicle in the shop. Not only did they replace our blown tires, but they went above and beyond to ensure that the vehicle was safe to drive for a long haul, to include checking all the lights and engine and taping the light and bumper back into place. While we waited, Jake had offered our family, including our dog, a place to wait in their air-conditioned waiting area. Our dog is protective, so when we declined, he offered an outdoor location with chairs under a tree for shade, which was perfect on a 90 degree day. The accident was an awful experience, but the kindness of everyone at Freedmans brought us back to the reality of the wonderful things in life. I found this place on yelp and based on the reviews, I decided to travel the extra distance to bring my car there. I had brought my car to a national chain shop and was told I had 4 dented rims (three badly), my engine mounts were failing, and I had two worn tires. After going to Freedman I left with two new tires and a very good feeling that this was the right place to go! While my rims were dented, they urged me to wait until after pothole season and that this would not cause me further issues down the road (except for some extra vibration.) They did a thorough inspection and given the laundry list of issues I asked them to check on, they could have come up with a number of other problems to fix and didn't take advantage. No only were they honest, but someone took the time to sit with me, discuss my issues, and I truly felt like they treated me as they would a family member. Someone was waiting to speak with the gentleman that was explaining what they found, and this gentleman made sure he was finished with me and answered all of my questions before moving onto the next person. I never once felt rushed. In all honesty, being a native New Yorker, I might have gotten impatient if I was the one waiting. However, I truly appreciated the feeling that my car issues were the most important ones they were dealing with (if only for a few minutes.) read more

These guys are AMAZING. Freedman Auto has been our go-to place for car repair. Their service just can't be beat. You drop off your car at night, request the time for it to be done by and ... voila! Your car is ready to pick up the next morning. Yesterday, my check engine light came on. I dropped the car off with them at 9:30am (no appointment), got a call back within an hour, the car was done by 3pm of the same day! Did I mention I got a ride home after dropping off my car? In addition to the check engine light, there was some rattle under the car. Inspecting the receipt, I saw that Jake fixed it for no charge. My husband and I have been using their services for a year now and have come to rely on them for prompt quality repair. I think the major reason why this place is so good is because it is owned by one of the repairmen (Jake) and he's in it for life, not because he's working for some big company. Jake is there from early morning to evening, handling customers, making repairs, responding to phone calls even after they're officially closed! He is very, very knowledgeable about cars and very patient when it come to explaining the diagnosis and repair. Walked into the shop with serious brake issues on my 10 year 'young' Corolla. Jake and his team of experts were excellent, helped me understand the exact issue (rotors, struts, brake pads had worn out). I have to agree, I was bit skeptical from my past exp. with Deepa auto, paid thru my nose $$$ for expensive rotor job a year back. Safe to say, issues with my car were life threatening, if not fixed immediately. Quick appnt setup with Freedman auto, got a drop off home and pick up every time I needed one. I came to Freedman to purchase a new set of tires to replace the crappy "stock" RFT tires on my new car (seriously, if your car came with RFTs - swap them out ASAP, you'll get much more comfortable ride, better traction and better fuel economy), without scheduling any appointments or calling them beforehand. Was instantly greeted by pretty friendly employee, gave him all necessary info, gave him the keys then just waited in a waiting area (which has everything necessary - comfortable furniture and a free Wi-Fi). Tire swapping took about an hour, I paid for that, got my receipt along with printed mail-in rebate form for new set of tires (which was a pretty nice gesture) and was on my way back to work. Since I also wanted to take the removed "stock" tires back with me they have wrapped these tires neatly with plastic bags and loaded them into the car's backseat and the trunk, which was also a pretty nice gesture and something you won't ever see at some local Staten Island's tire/repair shops. All in all it was a pretty positive experience and I'll gladly return to this place in future for all my tire-related needs. read more

I joined Yelp to positively review this mechanic, which is already saying something given that I have used Yelp to find businesses for many years. It is not every day that you feel good about spending $800 on a car repair, but I left Freedman's feeling genuinely good about the choice I made both to bring my car there and to have it fixed. The owner sat with me for almost a half an hour explaining the repair to me, telling me about how this part of my car worked, and discussing all of my options. He's a really knowledgable person, and the fact that he enjoys his job is evident from the way he connects with his customers. There were other people waiting, and he had several discussions with them that were similarly in depth to the discussion he had with me. Moreover, he seemed to remember very specific details about the customers and their cars from previous visits. Also, I called this morning, drove there as soon as possible, and they were able to diagnose my car's problem and fix it completely (a major repair) in less than 2.5 hours. When I first came to Freedman Auto Service years ago i had a laundry list of work that was recommended by the dealer. The bill from the dealer would have been over $700 to change various fluids and a belt. My car was 3yrs old with only 30k miles on it so I declined. I went to Freedman they showed me the recommended service advice from the manufacturer. Troy explained that none of these fluids need to be changed for a long time based on my mileage. Since then I've never gone back to the dealer for service Today I'm getting brakes installed. The guys here are very professional and the price is fair. They even showed me my vehicle's brakes to see that they were wearing unevenly and that it was time to change them cuz they were almost on the metal to metal. The guy even told me about the yelp check in offer that just saved me $25 on my front brakes. These guys are great there's nothing like having a trusted mechanic that I know is looking out for my safety and not trying to rob my wallet. read more

I am very grateful that Jake noticed that 2 of the tires on the Granny Mobile were 13 years old and the other two were in his words "old enough to vote" with 20 years on them. I took the car into Freedman's to have the Granny Mobile checked out. We inherited the GrannyMobile, a 2003 Nissan Sentra with 40k miles. This car had just been to the dealer for recall items and another mechanic for the oil change. All major work on my car is done by Freedman's. Neither the dealer nor the mechanic noticed the age on the tires. smh Thank God, Jake noticed the tires because my daughter will need to drive longer distances in the near future. My daughter sees the difference in how the car rides with the new tires. BTW - Jake gave me a good deal on the tires. I read about this place for over a year. I was at a nissan service center had a bolt stuck on the edge of my truck tire. They wanted to charge me over 220.00 dollars, I said no put the spare on. I got home and made many calls and still same amount and even more. One call to freedmans 180 and change I said ok , tire was order waited for the service to be complete. What I seen was so many people and women putting there trust with there cars here. I stop taking my wifes Toyota to the dealer and have been coming over a year now. Can' t believe the service and how nice everyone is. Bringing in my wifes Rav for a break job that they cheched for me at here oil change. I just moved to New Jersey from Texas and needed to find a good auto shop to check out my car after the long drive. I was hearing some weird sounds under the hood and the gentlemen there took my car in that day. Let me tell you how awesome they were. 1. They called me before they did any kind of diagnostic work to give me a time and price estimate so I could both OK the work and be prepared. 2. They gave me a ride back to my house while they worked on my car. 3. They came and picked me back up to get my car at the end of the day. I had a problem with a check engine light and i had an extremely bad experience working with the dealer as i paid a lot of money for diagnosis and they couldn't even find the problem. After checking the reviews on yelp, i decided to visit Freedman auto service. They were able to identify the problem and fix it real quick. I was so happy because i had been contemplating of trading my car thinking the problem cannot be fixed. Have driven 2000 miles after that and the check engine light hasn't come since then. I have been visiting this place since then for all my needs. Not only do they do a good job, but also give a true and honest estimate of what work is actually needed. I called up Freedman on 11/22/13 to get some information and a quote for 4x new ultra-high performance all season Continental DWS tires for my Audi A5. They said they were in stock, could be installed the next morning at 8am in 2 hours time, and gave me a total price quote for all 4. The price was good, and much lower than what the Audi dealer was quoting me. Went the next morning at 8am - they were busy with many people there, but they managed to get everything done in only 1 1/2 hours. The price they quoted me was exactly what I paid (minus the Yelp coupon I bought). I don't think I could have been more happy with the level of service here - everything went smoothly the way it should - NO surprises! read more

Today my husband and I went to Freedman's to have Jake look at a car (Infiniti G35, 2007) that we were thinking of buying. To say that Jake was thorough is an understatement. Not only did he examine the car for flaws and defects, he explained everything as he went along. He was patient with answering many questions and was not condescending in any way. The bill was more than fair considering the amount of time that he spent with us-even though it was a busy day with lots of cars awaiting service. I live in Virginia and my 2003 Subaru Outback broke down on the Garden State Parkway on a recent Saturday morning. While waiting for the tow truck I searched online for repair shops. As Freedman's had great reviews, was five miles away, and was open until 2:30 on Saturdays, that's where I went. They immediately diagnosed the broken timing belt, helped me rent a car, and gave me a complete repair estimate. They repaired the car for the price quoted and I picked it up the following Saturday. While away from home in Georgia, I turned to Yelp to find a trustworthy and reliable place to get my oil changed and my car checked over. Friedman auto service had great reviews on yelp, so I turned to them. Troy at the front desk was very friendly, knowledgeable and hospitable. I got my oil changed, a headlight bulb replaced, my car checked over thoroughly, and I now know that I will soon need some rear tires and shocks as well. No hard-sell from Troy to do those things now, but I plan to do them as soon as possible, and will lean toward doing those at Freedman as well. Highly recommended! read more

If you're looking for an honest auto repair shop, this is the place to go. I brought in my Mazda 6 that I recently purchased from a private seller because I was hearing a feint noise when applying my brakes. The mechanic informed me that the brakes were pretty much new and that the noise was most likely coming from the rust on my rotors (the car has serious undercarriage rust). They didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need. I'm new to the area, so I was worried about finding a trustworthy mechanic. I need not worry anymore. But to my surprise the owner carl called me next day and made sure my problem was adressed. These guys really take customer satisfaction seriously.They custom ordered a tire for me.
