We are from Chicago. My wife drove on curb and broke the tire. I decided to bring the car here to fix it because of the 5 star rating on Yelp. I sent them a quota asking for whether they have the same continental tire in stock, they replied very fast and told me there is one. When I came here, I found the shop was pretty small. They were very busy when I came in, however they finish their work within one hour. Amazing! There were at least 3 people ahead of me. The tire might not be the cheapest in the market, but they charge very low labor fee. And the most important part was that their service deserved that money. This is the place that I have been looking for forever! Freedman Auto Service saved me from spending a heroic amount of money over what a dealership tried to charge me. The dealership told me I had a certain issue regarding an oil leakage. I went to Freedman for a second opinion and they rectified the situation by performing a thorough inspection to see what was really actually happening. After forwarding this information to the dealership and visiting them again, they concluded what the dealership originally told me a complete false and what Freedman told me was the actual issue that was occurring. As a side note, this happened last year. I've been here countless times ever since. I'm happy to give Freedman my customer loyalty for as long as needed and after-death in the spirit realm. These guys are wonderful, courteous, professional and honest. They are respectful to customers and provide clear explanations and clarification patiently and work with each person to come to reasonable terms (unlike bargaining with them), while waiting for them to service my vehicle, I have observed their interactions with different customers coming into the shop with auto problems from as simple as changing a tire to major renovation on a super old vehicle, they were delightful to talk to and straightforward with their terms, making the process un-threatening and civilized. They were fair in their prices, I called for some basic services to be done, and had previously called multiple other places to compare for the same services, they are slightly above the cheapest but given my previous experience with them and others comments on yelp and google review, I rather have my vehicles done by trustworthy mechanics than some place that purposely Point out flaws or exaggerate problems for you to fix. If you aren't a mechanic yourself or savvy in car repairs, you are most likely to fall victims to their claims. But given that we have made comparisons and have 3 cars done here and 3 other places, I have conclude this is a good place. read more

In my experience, transmission issues on older cars usually mean its time to get a new one. When Jake explained to me the issues on my car I was very worried and even looked for a new car but that is until he came through with a killer, honest deal on a great transmission. Even more important, he explained in person all the ins & outs of what was done and what to watch out for if things were to go wrong. Finally about a week or so after I received a call from Jake to make sure things were still ok. To this day I am still cruising in my car with no further issues. I know when you see a lot of good reviews like this that you get skeptical about them being legit. I called to get a quote for a used tire and a time estimate. When I went in, not only did they give me an even lower price, they stuck by their time estimate even though they were busy at the time. The owner of the place, Jake, was a friendly person and was talking to all the customers while their vehicles were being worked on. We talked a little bit after and I can see the niceness is not just a front. Good atmosphere, great employees, wonderful service! I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone. read more

After getting dismissed by several other auto centers when we needed some warranty tire replacements on our Motorhome (looking at you Sears), Freedman saved the day. And they might have saved my and my daughters' lives. I don't know whether retail and service outlets get paid full price for their products and labor when compelled to replace defective tires from their manufacturers and suppliers. I do know that managing a tire change on an RV can be inconvenient. Combine these two things and we were told by several places it would be a hassle to help us. Our tires were cracking along the sidewall and tread. They were dangerous, and, they had been recalled for other potential problems. Freedman did not hesitate to work with me in bringing the RV in to be inspected and moving forward with the warranty work. They never hesitated -- either on the phone or in person. They ordered and received the tires in one day. They were installed on my motorhome a day later. Good thing too. The following day I took my family camping. On our trip home we were hit by a passenger car trying to recklessly pass us in the pouring rain on I 95 in Connecticut. We were hit twice and pushed into another car. We came terrifying close to being pushed over a bridge wall. That we didn't get rolled, and that my two young daughters didn't get tossed and seriously injured, almost certainly had a lot to do with luck. It also had to do with those new tires, which did their job brilliantly. And it was in no little way thanks to Freedman and Tony, who handled my case and my particular needs as though I had been a lifetime customer. I will be from now on. read more

I brought my car in today to get new tires. The owner gave me a few quotes and recommendations and really took his time to explain things to me. He told me there was a $70 rebate on the tires. When I went to go pick it up and looked at the details of the rebate, turns out it's a $50 rebate for the model put on my car. The cashier didn't fix the issue for me. I thought, oh well, and drove out off the lot. As I was driving off the lot, the owner waved me back onto the lot and handed me a $20 bill to "make things right." Not sure why the cashier didn't help me but I'm pleased with the owner. 5 Stars for him! Need a place to hang out and work remotely while waiting for repairs to finish? I found these guys on Yelp and was so glad I did. I was visiting my mom from DC for the holidays when I noticed her SUV wasn't turning correctly and had an awful sound when braking. We've had mixed experiences with mechanics so I checked yelp and found Freedmans. They were super professional, friendly, and efficient. It was later in the day so they had a long queue of cars in service, but still were able to fit us in and diagnose our car within a couple of hours. Turned out we had several issues: brakes, belt, and some other repairs. All were explained thoroughly and repairs were priced reasonably and transparently. The job was done first thing the next morning at 9:30 am. And the car now rides very smoothly. I was really impressed with their prompt and professional service. They've replaced my shock absorbers, brakes, and brake rotors and they quoted me a competitive price to complete the work. Their was absolutely no surprises when I paid the bill. If you're a Rutgers New Brunswick student, you should go to this mechanic! I found this place on yelp when I needed work done on my car. It was my first time having to bring my car in for work by myself, away from home. They took good care of me here. Fair prices, and they didn't scam me even when they had the chance. I asked them to check my squeaky belts, and they called and told me that the belt is old, but still totally functional so I wouldn't need to pay another like $120 to get it replaced. They were friendly and helpful throughout the entire process even though I barely had any idea what I was doing. I would definitely recommend them, and only 10 minutes away from Livingston campus to boot! read more

I was in highland park after I picked up my vehicle and someone said your is smoking it was on fire I able to extinguish the fire went to another shop to see what the problem was it was a loose starter cable. I could not have been more impressed with Jake and the guys at Freedman! This was my best experience with a car shop by far! They did an outstanding job on my car. I needed the entire engine replaced. They gave me a quote and even though there were some unforeseen events while my car was there, they stuck to the quote and did not charge me extra. I bought a used car a week ago and wanted to get it in better shape, so after reading these reviews, I went to Freedman. I didn't head out until after 1pm on a Saturday so it was almost closed, but I called ahead and they said they could at least give me an oil change. I was greeted by a friendly duo at the customer service desk and after giving up my keys, I sat in the lounge area. I overheard a conversation with a customer and a guy at the desk about how their technicians take some course in serving female customers (because well-informed men sometimes gloss over details when talking to less-informed people, specifically women, when it comes to cars...even if they aren't less-informed individually). The two times I've been there, they've detailed everything to me in a way that didn't feel at all condescending. Very straight forward, but I was told exactly what was wrong and what needed to be done and what would need to be done in the future ("new tires before winter, but no rush. But by November, for sure") Then when I was all set to go, I got my invoice and informative info about what was done and anything else they saw needing to be done (since it was closing time soon and I mentioned wanting a tune-up if time permitted. It didn't). I got outside and a man greeted me and said he saw some fluids were low so he topped them off for me. And he heard a rattling noise when he started the car but it would go away when the engine warmed up, so he told me when I came back next time, he would look into the rattling noise for FREE and would take it from there even though he thinks he knows what's causing it. Oil change was reasonably priced. I went back earlier in the day the next time and had that rattling looked into, for free. They also noticed a minor issue with a leaky hose for my windshield washer fluid. So they fixed it...also for FREE. I made an appointment for the actual fixing of the rattling noise (so they could order some parts for my older model Jeep) and a few days later, I received a new customer coupon in the mail from them. So now I can get 10% off of my repairs this upcoming Monday. It should also be noted that they tell you exactly how long upcoming repairs will be. They gave me an estimated amount of time for the oil change, the rattling inspection, and I know the repairs on Monday will take about 1.9 hours...so I'll be bringing lunch and a book to hang out in the lounge and maybe watch tv...to which they give customers the remote. No "Do not change the channel" sign present. If you've ever been to a small business where the owner knows you or your parent or something like that, going to Freedman feels like that. It's like they take care of you as if it's a favor to your parent whom they've known for a decade or two. It's just a nice bunch of folks working there. read more

Best auto repair shop I've ever used! My Hyndai Sonata had a check engine light off and on for 2 years (mostly on). Despite repeated visits, the Hyndai Dealer was baffled and was unable to repair it (so much for the warranty). Freeman Auto was able to solve the problems and my check engine light still remains off for months now. My Sonata had difficulty fueling up. Freedman Auto diagnosed the first problem, and fixed it. However, the engine light came back on hours later. Jake, the owner, personally apologized and did a great deal of research to problem solve. Through his research, he discovered the second issue, and personally oversaw the second repair. Jake was very generous with my repair bill and took responsibility to make sure my car was running properly for the first time in a long time. I have never encountered a dealer or repair shop with the integrity and expertise of Jake and can not recommend Freedman Auto highly enough! read more

I believe I've finally found my repair facility. I visited a local franchised shop and the service manager made recommendations I thought were rather interesting. For instance the service manager at the "other" facility said I needed to replace my radiator as they were starting to crack. So I had guys at Freedman check it out and they said it was perfectly fine. Like many others stated, I feel they are trustworthy and they do not try to up sell with expensive & unnecessary services. They have plenty of tires in stock, also they are partnered with Tirerack.com. I wish they had a little bit more of a waiting area and parking lot. Just had the rear brakes and 4 tire rotation/balance done on our 2008 Saab 97x today. Haven't driven that far afterwards but I must say the price was more than competitive and the employees are extremely courteous.
