We found Pacifica Sun City Senior Living on the internet before COVID hit in February 2020.  We met…read morewith the director and was able to walk around facility and get a good look at the place with one of the sales folks.  We knew we didn't need to look any further after visiting Pacifica.  It was just what dad needed.  We brought dad down from New York to Pacifica in August 2020 and it made a world of difference.  He loves his room (2BD, 2BA). The outside vendors (PT, OT, PCP, Podiatrist, Lab Retriever and RX) have been tremendously helpful.  Pacifica has been able to help look after dad and get him the necessary care without him leaving the premises, even as he has deteriorated.  Unfortunately, dad has declined due to a terminal illness (brain tumor and dementia).  Pacifica was one of the first facilities to get their residents COVID shots which is tremendous considering New York has not given any vaccines to the elderly - yet.  Dad got his second shot last week. This past week, we took a look at the Memory Care Unit at Pacifica - just in case, as a next step.  It is a very bright, clean and inviting environment.  When we were there the residents were in a group playing with a beach ball and they were smiling and having fun.  It made us feel better about possibly having that as a "next step". Mitch, Joann, Marco and Christina have gone above and beyond even under very trying circumstances with COVID.  They are the reason the Pacifica community is able to function as well as they are.  We can't thank them and all the other staff at Pacifica enough for all they have done and are doing for dad.

It was her third ALF since her stroke in 2016, and it was by far the best. I live about five minutes away and so I was there often. I was able to see first-hand the attention and care she received from all of the staff. From the CNAs to the nurses to the maintenance and cleaning personnel, I always felt they had her best interests at heart. They have several integrated doctors and PT/OT (though you can keep your own) and because of that they were able to catch a few issues my grandmother was having long before they became critical. There are some things you can tell from a tour - the activities, the physical amenities, maybe even the food. But what you cannot tell, and what matters most, are the people who work there. I'll be forever thankful of the care my grandmother received; it was very much the kind of care I'd hope to receive myself in her place.

To boot management doesn't care! In the memory care unit, they serve a lot of chicken breasts on-the-bone as lunch and dinner meals There are no knives (butter as with a normal place setting). The reidents look at the meal in the dish as there is no way to cut it into edible pieces. The chicken is usually covered with a sauce or gravy and they can not even pick it up. Many leave the table without eating! Mgm't has seen it, and still does nothing. The aids sit there and see this without helping the residents to eat. ADF would be a more suitable title. That said, with any facility you must be present often and you must continue to advocate for your relative's needs. The communication with doctors and nurses who see the residents regularly is done through an online portal. The medical staff is responsive and always on top of everything. As to cleanliness, I have never ever seen a bug anywhere and they do their best with any 'odors' which can occur from time to time in any facility which cares for residents of this age and incapacity. One star off for the staffing levels, they do emphasize they're not a 1:1 facility which I understand. However, this heightens the risk to residents in general, especially if they are a fall risk. This situation is tough on families and they do offer regular support group meetings for relatives.

I feel compelled to share my family's distressing experience with Brookdale Phillippi Creek, where…read moremy sister was briefly placed after her move from Utah in May 2024. Unfortunately, this transition was marred by significant issues that compelled my nieces to seek alternative care for their mother within just a few days of her arrival.       Despite my niece's meticulous planning, and dedication over the past three years in managing their Mother's care, the initial experience at Brookdale Phillippi Creek was disheartening. The facility failed to meet the expectations set by its reputation, leading my nieces to move their mother back to her previous home, where she was welcomed with open arms. This decision was not made lightly, as they had worked diligently to ensure a smooth transition for their Mother to Brookdale Phillippi Creek.    The financial aspect of this ordeal has been equally troubling. The family paid an exorbitant $5,621.50 for a stay that lasted a few days, and I (their Aunt) have struggled for three months to retrieve the funds owed to them. As of now, Brookdale has only offered to refund $1,125.74, while the significant $2,500 community fee remains unreturned. It is bewildering that a billion-dollar company cannot facilitate a straightforward reimbursement process, particularly when the circumstances leading to my sister's departure was a direct result of the facility's shortcomings.   Despite numerous attempts to resolve this matter--42 emails and countless calls and texts to the executive director--the response has been frustrating. A promise of a follow-up call this past Friday from the Business Office Manager has gone unfulfilled, leaving me once again feeling ignored and disheartened.   Brookdale Phillippi Creek must take responsibility for its service failures and address the financial discrepancies promptly. My family is eager to resolve this matter by getting the credit resolved, and receiving a clear report showing a zero balance, free of any late fees.   In conclusion, my family will not consider returning to any Brookdale facility in the future. It is my hope that this review serves as a cautionary tale for others considering their services. Accountability and communication are crucial in elder care, and Brookdale Phillippi Creek has unfortunately fallen short on both fronts.     One side note: I personally want to acknowledge the efforts of Leslie A. who has been incredibly helpful throughout this process.
